Q9300 With 6gb Ddr2 From Pacificrack

Jan 8, 2009

Today, I just found out that PacificRack was offering dedi's with Q9300 CPU and 6GB DDR2 for $129 (Pretty good deal). I picked one up for VMWare ESXi development machine and they had me online in under 4 hours which is very fair. It seems that their service has consistently good over time and this makes me want to work with them for many years to come.

The machine has been living up to its expectations so far although it has only been a day. With the good service I received, I had to put up a review
I'd also like to add that we have been colocating our servers with them for over a year without any major issues. Any ticket has been responded to in a timely manner and the staff is always courteous and professional. The network is absolutely outstanding and constantly improved.

I have written a review in the past for PacificRack and my view remains the same towards them. Excellent job, and keep doing what you do best.

High-End VPS - Prefer OpenVZ Or Xen

Jan 23, 2009

If you were looking for a high-end high-performance high-reliability VPS. Say a 100gb disk space, 2,000gb transfer, 4gb ram VPS with cPanel for around $115/month.

Disk space, transfer, and ram would be *guaranteed* with no overselling, before people start going off on that tangent.

Would you prefer OpenVZ or Xen - and why? Your only options are OpenVZ and Xen, I don't want to hear why you think XYZ's virtualization would be better than OpenVZ and Xen.

Why Do Providers Prefer OpenVZ

Apr 3, 2009

I was wondering why so many VPS providers use OpenVZ instead of Xen. I can understand using OpenVZ if you want to oversell, but if you have guaranteed memory with a OpenVZ plan, isn't that the same as allocating the memory in Xen? Am I missing something or something else?

Do You Prefer OpenVZ, Virtuozzo Or Xen?

This poll is purely for market research but I figure other VPS providers might get some info out of it. Its a simple question to customers more than hosts.

Do you prefer OpenVZ,Virtuozzo or Xen and why?

I personally know which I preferr from a providers point of view but wondered about clients

Assume hardware is equal. OpenVZ/Xen have a custom control panel (HyperVM or similar). Virtuozzo has VZPP

Why Customers Prefer CPANEL Over X X X

May 5, 2008

We have been getting a high quantity of requests for our VPS's with CPANEL preinstalled.

However, we feel that CPANEL uses way too many resources, and honestly its a bit expensive for what it does.

So, here's the deal, WHY CPANEL, and not Open source alternatives such as ISP Config?

Please give me some other Open Source (aka free), Web Hosting panels, as part of this poll!?

I personally always have favored doing everything on the 'bare' system, this is why CPANEL doesn't make too much sense for myself.

So, what is it about cpanel and plesk, etc thats so much better against the free options out there?

Which Processor? Q8200 Vs Q6600

Q6600 Processor Vs. Q9400

Aug 22, 2008

I have read benchmark comparisons and found the Q9400 and even the Q9300 to be a better performing processor compared to the Q6600 processor, even with 2MB less L2 cache.

I am just wondering, how significant of a difference do you think the Q6600 processor and the Q9400 processor is in a server environment? Currently I have a Q6600 processor but am looking to upgrade my server, possibly to the Q9400 processor..will it be worth it? It's not that much more expensive..the only thing I am concerned about is the 2mb L2 cache loss.

My site is "kind-of" high traffic. We receive a lot of connections and visitors, and most-importantly my sites are run by PHP and MySQL databases.

Please help me choose the right processor. Currently I have 4GB DDR2-800mhz installed, which I will be upgrading to 8GB DDR2-800mhz, no matter what processor I choose to run.

I discovered that upgrading to 1ghz RAM is just not worth the extra money because the performance gain is very little and not noticeable.

Would anyone possibly know of a Intel Quad Core processor that has 8mb or more of L2 cache, 1333mhz FSB, and is comparable to the processors listed above and relatively the same in price?

Is A Core2Quad Q6600 A Good Choice For A CPU

Dec 3, 2008

Is a Core2Quad Q6600 cpu a good choice in a dedicated server compared to a Xenon or Dual Xenons?

I'm sepcifically looking at this page...[url]

Is this a good deal?

The 1TB SATA can be swapped for a 300GB SCSI at no extra cost.

Intended for a vbulletin forum so lots of database queries, I assume the 8GB ram would be good for that.

Intel Q6600 Vs AMD Phenom 9500

P9500 - 2 MB cache - 4 x 2.2 Ghz

Off course everyone will say the Q6600 now (i know that myself), but the Q6600 server has 4 GB ram and the P9500 server 8 GB. What would be the best choice?

it is for VPS hosting. In my opinion the P9500 is better.
