CPanel NS IP Addresses Shared With Default IP Address
May 17, 2008
I'm setting up a cPanel server and have an initial 5 IPs with the server. By default, it assigned two IPs to the nameservers, but I'm getting a bit confused as to best practice policies. Is it a bad idea to have your nameserver IPs being used for accounts?
I imagine the answer is yes, it is a bad idea, as I've not seen it done by others. I would guess the biggest reason would be that you wouldn't want a bad acocunt to get the IP blocked.
I'd like to hear opinions on the matter, as cPanel seems to be set up to automatically assign the first IP available to both the default account IP and the first nameserver.

I'll make it as simple as possible -- I want to remove via SSH all mail allocated to the default address (catch all).
I cannot remove it via webmail or mail client since there are over 50,000 emails.
It's a cPanel based system.

I have an interesting situation on my CentOS 4 server. I have a number of virtual adapters (e.g. eth0:1, eth0:2 etc), and for some reason all outbound traffic is going through one of these, not eth0. If I go to ipchicken.com, it shows the ipaddress of a virtual adapter, not the normal eth0 adapter.
I have been looking around for information on how to set the default adapter to eth0, but I can't seem to find anything. I can't reboot yet, as it's a production server, so I have to wait for 'scheduled maintenance'. If that's the solution, I can try it, but I am sure there is another underlying issue/routine here.
Is there a way, while live, to set the outbound adapter back to eth0?
Please note, that I have only just realized this has happened. In fact, it has been this way since November. I can tell because server name stamps on Email messages sent from this server indicate a virtual domain at that IP address. I recall I had done some work around that time, which had involved me ifup'ing and ifdown'ing some of these adapters (but not eth0, or the eth0:100 adapter (if I recall correctly) that is now the default).
Also note that I have groups of eth0 adapters, such like:
eth0:1
eth0:2
eth0:3
eth0:100
eth0:101
eth0:102
It's the eth0:100 adapter that is now the default.

I'm wondering if anyone else has experience with this, or if it's something easy that I'm overlooking.
I am on a VPS service (CentOS Linux) and I want my php mail function emails to send from a specified address. I've already manipulated the headers, so the emails do appear to come from the specified addres, but on mobile devices it comes up as nobody@server1.mydomain.com format. I would like this to read something like no-reply@mydomain.com
know which configuration files can change this default address?

I have a reseller account with cPanel and WHM.
I purchased the extra "dedicated" ip address for my use. I understand it is dedicated exclusively to my accounts, but shared between each of my accounts...
The provider also provides a "shared" ip. I understand that if I did not have my own dedicated ip, then I would use this ip and it would be shared between my accounts, and among all the other accounts on his server...
My question pertains to the way WHM initializes a new account. It assigns the company shared ip to each of my new domain accounts, instead of my dedicated ip.
Pinging the newly created domain account results in seeing the company shared ip - not my dedicated ip.
Is this correct? I think WHM should be assigning my dedicated ip, and ping should show my dedicated ip.

I recently got a new hosting plan, and I'm wondering what the best way to redirect a Dyndns.org domain is. I'm currently hosting a small site on my old server, which I have httpd.conf access to, using a Dyndns.org address. I'd like to have the Dyndns.org point to my new server at DTH, but it seems that the Dyndns.org system isn't compatible with a shared hosting environment. So, my question is, what's the most seamless way I could make a Dyndns.org address point to a folder or subdomain on a shared hosting account? I considered pointing the Dyndns.org domain directly to the IP, but that wouldn't redirect to the specific folder that the site would be in.
I'd really like to keep the dyndns.org address the same in search engines if possible.
If I issue a 301 "Permanent Move" code, will the search engines update with the new address. If this is too hard, maybe it would be better if I let go of the old address and just setup a redirect to retain my traffic.

I've been on shared hosting for ages but I needed to add an IP and site5 only allows one per account (even on the 'multi-site' plans). Before that I was with Pair Networks.
So, I got the VPS server all setup and I went through and did the initial configuration of the WHM. I have two IPs with my account. My question is about setting up packages and dedicated IPs. When I first set up a package with a dedicated IP, it only lets me choose the second IP on my account. So, I created a package without a dedicated IP for the first site. But now it's on a shared package. So, I take it I can't setup two dedicated IP packages unless I have 3 IPs? Does the cPanel access for the package with the dedicated IP allow for SSL functions? The cpanel access for my first account doesn't have any SSL options - so I guess I need to manage that with the WHM?
Anyway, if someone would be so kind as to shed a little light on the topic of IPs and packages with dedicated IPs and SSL management for accounts under both types of packages,

Like, when you create an account, the clients cPanel says:
[url](on the top).
I was wondering, any way to change that..not for a single account but all of them..kinda so when it creates a account it actually puts a different image.

to change the default cPanel account error pages. For example, default accounts have the following 404 error:
Quote:
Not Found
The requested URL * was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
So what I want to do is be able to change this page but I dont know where in the server it is located.
