How can I restart a SUSE server multiple times?
how to use Cron to restart the server every 5 minutes and then log the number of times this was done and output it to a file?

Apache Keeps Stopping. MULTIPLE Times Per Day!
Apache keeps stopping. MULTIPLE times per day! There is no logic to when it dies. But about every 2 hours. Load stays below .30 and there is free memory available. This is on a VPS machine. None of the other VPS's are having an issue. Just this one. Centos release 5.3 (Final) Apache/2.2.3 Here is what is in the httpd.conf file. SusE / MAC X-Server Backup
I'm working with a local startup and we are looking into potential backup solutions. We have roughly 9 servers all running some variation of susE linux (some straight susE and some X Server which runs off susE). We are needing a backup solution that will allow us to securely get data off the servers on a regular interval. We are unable to move the data off site as we are running on a single T1 line with moderate utilization, certainly not enough BW to go off site.

i have windows 03 server getting ddosed many times. attack was upto 2gbit so any way to stop it? Would a higher connection speed/bandwidth limit help? And about load balancing, would more servers help prevent the DDoS?

ECATEL Server Set-up Times
if any of you could give a quick idea on the set up times for dedicated servers from ECATEL I paid 515 euros 9 days ago, and the server still hasn't been set up (Hardware delivery problems I have been told) and before I ordered, they stated the setup time would be 48 hours. Is this normal? The last email i received from them was 3 days ago. I find this completley unproffesional, It is always another few days. What are your experiences with them? I am utterly dissapointed so far.

Hosting-IE's Server Setup Times
I bought a VPS package hosted at Hosting-IE from someone I knew, since they were not going to be able to use it. Its a linux VPS, and it's done me well. Based on that I decided to purchase my own package, a Windows VPS. After payment, I messaged support about a broken auto response email they sent out, then asked how long server setup time should be. They responded 1-2 working days. Fine. Well, its been 7 days since then. I'm 1/4 of the way through the month I've paid for, and still no VPS. I messaged them back asking for my server or a refund, no responses since then. My previous host set up my dedicated box within a working day, and that involved setting up the hardware too. Over a week for a VPS is too long. Is my experience with Hosting-IE abnormal or should I be demanding my loot back? Is there any other VPS provider out there that can offer me similar stats at the same price as Hosting-IE? for a simple package setup, this has gone on for far too long.

Tools To Measure Server Connectivity Times
I've got a housed server within my customer's datacenter. I consider application runs ok, but it goes very slow. I consider it's due to their connection (DSL) and installed another provisional server with a simple "Hello World" and no traffic. I'm to install the same server within another datacenter, and would like to find an external tool to certify connectivity times. Do you know any of these tools? I'm not searching tools like 'Apache AB' or 'HP httperf', but public online services.

Resetting WebDisk On The Windows Side?
I configured WebDisk on my webhost (via cPanel) and it works great on one computer but with the other there is a slight problem: When the password was first entered it was mistyped, saved somewhere (I have no idea where, that's what I am trying to find out) and now whenever I try to connect I receive an error: Quote: There was a problem connecting to the WebDisk service I tried to reset the password via Internet Explorer (Tools | Options) but that cleared other passwords, not the WebDisk one. Any idea how to reset that password (on Windows, the client side)?

Resetting A Root Password After /etc/passwd / Strangeness
We've had a customer do something strange to their server. They were playing with /etc/passwd or /etc/shadow or similar (not quite sure of the details) but the upshot is booting the server into single user and trying to reset the password via passwd gives passwd root (and any user) passwd: Authentication token manipulation error So far I've Replaced /etc/passwd* and /etc/shadow* with a copy from another server Turned off SeLinux /etc/pam.d/passwd is fine Root file system is r/w

SuSE Vs. RHEL
Anyone out there have experience with SuSE over RedHat? RHEL is obviously the generalized Enterprise version used across most commercial hosting companies, but I'm interested in hearing about some SuSE experiences people have had. It looks like SoftLayer offers SuSE and a couple VPS hosting companies do the same. I'm wondering how many large-scale sites are run on this operating system.

Does Anyone Use SUSE Linux
I have been trying to compare Red Hat to SUSE Linux, and can't really come to a definitive solution. I can't seem to find anyone that uses SUSE (Well, hardly anyway), but I found out that they have over double to market share that Red Hat has so somebody is definitely using them. I also noticed that SUSE is cheaper too. Based on your experiences, what are some of the pros / cons both ways? Who offers better product training (I wan't to get certified directly)? Who has better product support? Is AppArmor better than SELinux? By the way, I am only looking for commercial linux distributions. Specifically companies that offer product training.

Postfix On Suse Is Not Working
I have a server which runs suse linux on it. Postfix is already installed on it. But, the problem is i am not able to send mail using root. I mean using mail -v command. I could see the following in mail logs. I know 2 files main.cf and master.cf are there. Not, sure what to change and how. Suse, Debian, Fedora Or CentOS
I will be dropping my shared-hosting plan and ordering a small VPS as soon as I can decide on which operating sytem to use. It seems that most companies offer the following choices: Suse, Debian, Fedora and CentOS. I freely admit that I am a full-fledged n00b when it comes to linux and will be learning as I go, the problem is I just don't know where to start because I'm not familiar with any of them. I have at least heard of Suse, Debian and Fedora before, but didn't even know this CentOS existed until yesterday... and yet, it seems to be one of the more popular choices. So I was wondering if some of you seasoned VPS veterans here could recommend an OS, tell me what the differences are, or otherwise share any experience you might have with any of them.

Setting Up A Domain Name SUSE 10 Runing From Home

Automatic Redirect In IIS 7
I am trying to figure out how to do the following: Say I have a URL like this: www.myreallylongsiteurl.com and I want it to automatically redirect to www.myRegularURL.com. How would I go about doing this? Do I actually have to setup a whole new site in IIS and have a page there that just does a redirect or can I set up some sort of alias for this? Also, my customer would like me to set it up so that myRegularURL.com redirects automatically to www.myRegularURL.com. they don't want to have to do the www in the url. Do I do this the same way as above?

Annual Automatic Renewal
The web host I use for personal web hosting (non-work-related) recently renewed my annual hosting package to my credit card automatically. The invoice was generated at around 11:45PM and I received an email reminder. By 12:03AM, I had been billed the full amount, before I even saw the 11:45PM reminder email. Either from a client or provider standpoint, what is your take on automatic annual renewals? With or without advance warning? In my case, it was billed to a card I no longer use, so I had to make a payment to that card that I would not have otherwise made. In other words, no serious harm done, but it was a hassle nonetheless. I do not have a specific take either way on automatic annual renewals, so I am wondering what the community thinks.

Automatic Backup Service
I have around 750 megabytes of data on a Windows 2003 server, and I would like to find an off-site / web service that I can use to back this data up incrementally at least nightly. Nightly incrementals would probably be 1-25MB in size. Full backups could run every other week or monthly, as the update rate is fairly low. Ideally, I'd like to find some software to make this set-it and forget-it. Of course, periodic audits of the backup would be performed, but I don't want something I have to nanny constantly. As I said, this is a Windows server, so a service would be ideal. A scheduled task would be just as good, I suppose.

Automatic Secondary DNS
I have searched for setting up automatic secondary DNS, but couldn't find anything, if I missed it, please post a link I have 2 VPS's one running cPanel/WHM with about 15 low traffic sites on it. The other is a very slow spec VPS, hopefully just for DNS services. I only have 1 domain server running currently, this is on the same server as the all the websites, what I want is a secondary DNS mirroring that of the DNS on my cPanel VPS, automaitically.... I was thinking of writting a little script to scp all the .db files in /var/named/ to my secondary server, then login to the secondary server and restart BIND?

Installing Wordpress Plugins Not Automatic
I have 2 different shared hosting accounts with 2 different hosts. On 1 hosting account I can install Wordpress plugins by clicking on the "install" link and everything is done, all I have to do is activate the plugin and I'm in business. On my other hosting account I signed up for yesterday, when I try to install a plugin I'm taken to a "Connection Information" screen. It says, "To perform the requested action, connection information is required" and there's a box for the hostname, username, password, and connection type (FTP or FTPS). I also noticed that when I search for a plugin, the rating stars are all white (no yellow) on the hosting account that asks for the FTP info. Both of these accounts were installed with Fantastico. Any ideas why my new hosting account acts this way?

No Clue: Automatic MySQL Queries
I've been pondering something for a long time here, but never really knew the right question to ask, or how to word it... so I never even know what to search for. So I honestly have no idea what I'm asking or if this is even under the right topic. What I'm looking for is answers, links, tutorials, or just some words I can search for to help me do the following: I have a MySQL database filled with accounts. People have to pay to get these accounts. All the accounts are set to expire on different days. I need to send an e-mail out to accounts, for example, to let them know they're expiring, say, a month before this will occur. Right now the only way I know to do this is to have MySQL queries on a PHP page that, every time the page is loaded, runs through all the accounts, checks their expirations, and sends emails to those that need it. I know there has to be a way to have this happen automatically without having to load a PHP page every day, for example.

Automatic Renewal For A Year For Colocation
Is automatic renewal of a colocation contract for a full year enforceable? I've been with a place for over two years, never got a notice that my contract was being renewed, never got a special price for renewing for an entire year, but as I see now, I'm going to be challenged to pay 100% of the remaining months of a contract I thought I was paying by the month after the end of the first year. In real estate, most tenants have to sign something that renews their contract for a year, I thought. If I had received notice of renewal at the end of the contract periods, I supposed I would have been more aware that the lease was for a full year each time. I had no idea that this was standard and, of course, no idea this renewal was buried on page 6 of a 15 page contract. This starts to resemble a health club contract from hell. Oh, and I just love the early termination fee. It consists of the remainder of the months' lease fees. Like as if I still had the server connected.

Automatic Account Setup & Billing
I have a virtual dedicated server which i currently host a couple of clients websites on, the control panel i am using is Simple Control Panel. What i would like is an automated program or script that automatically sets up a users FTP access and creates a directory with a mysql database - I also require it to bill the customer on a monthly basis and if no payment is received from the customer the account then goes offline (but is not deleted) how i can set this up and what is the best thing to use.

Multiple Server Managment
I currently own a few web hosting company's. Where i seem to be having trouble is that i have allways used Reseller accounts to run my business. But recently this month i have purchased My own Servers. I currently Own 9 Servers in total. So when it comes to Actual Server Managment im running into a brick wall lol One of my business's invlolves Free web hosting. And and I have been using one server for the free web hosting clients. The problem is that sigle server is Maxed out I cannot add any more accounts to it withought jeperdising its stability. This service Not only inlcudes Free domain hosting but sub domain hosting as well. So now that you know a little background on what im doing heres the question We use Client Exec as our billing and Auto Account Creation and we know its possible to Add multiple server to Client Exec and we can tell it to creat new accounts on anouther server But what hapends when someone wants a subdomain? Its my understanding that subdomains can only reside on the server that the actual domain is being hosted. Is this right ? or is there a way to creat subdomains of a .com on anouther server where is not located... Also i was wondering if it was possible to join servers together in one whm? So under Ip Adresses we could just specify a new Ip & server would this work ? I really need help fast since i get an average of 90 sighnups a day. and im sorry if theres a simple solution to this.. Im just new to actually owning my own hardware instead of using someone elses. to me it just doesnt make any sence and i know it needs to be possible somehow ..

Multiple Server Routing
I have an exchange server with the webmin interface activated. I have port 80 forwarded on the router to this server for the webmin. Management wants to upgrade data service and move website server in-house. So this is how I'll need to set up 2 websites on two servers for the same IP. Server 1: Windows. accepts domain mail.domain.com Server 2: Linux. accepts www.domain.com I'm figuring I'll need to make changes at the router level, and I have a decent cisco router. What do I need to do? Point me in the right direction for googling. Would it be easier to use 2 IPs? Both would come over the same line, how would I handle that on the router level?

Multiple Server Accessing Files
I have one server right now and will be adding a second server in the next 4-5 months. In the meantime I've upgraded the coding in my community site to act as if there is already two servers. Mainsite.com has all the php files, and a separate HD for mysql db only, [url] has all the user images and videos. This problem I'm having right now is the permission to delete files from [url]via [url] What I've Tried: vsFTPd - it has a small footprint but its not reliable, needed to be restarted a few times while testing on the beta site. usermod - this is messy, changing chmods, owners, grps... etc I tried all of that but still had problems getting the Mainsite to be part of the group without having to change all the chmods and grps. NFS mount - haven't tried yet... Does anyone run a multiple server site? My sites pretty big been around for 4yrs, and i've upgraded servers 3 times since then. If i can't get this to work right my final option would be to continue to upgrade to a new server each year, everytime a bigger and faster server setup becomes available. Current server Dual Xeon 5310 4gb, 3 x 146gb scsi/sas. The server is doing fine with this setup. But with the new site uprade and features it's going to top things out. I can keep throwing ram on the server and move mysql off site. The site has little over 1mil users with about 60-70% of them being active daily...

Server With Multiple External IP Addresses
We require a server with 10+ IP addresses (Each one with a separate OS and external IP Address, i.e myip.dk) This is to be used as an added security level for our employees logging into our system from outside the office. Our system monitors the IP Address and we need to restrict access to certain items depending on the IP. We basically would like to set up multiple VPS on one server. Can you confirm how this would work?I know we can buy a Windows VPS for around £15, but we need multiple of these (10-20)and figure our own server might be the way forward.

Multiple IP Addresses To 1 Dedicated Server?
There are lots of hosts who can give you IPs on different blocks. You should easily be able to find one hosting account that can do this. Of course, you'll need to get a low-end dedicated or colo server to do that, but the IP address thing is no big deal. With the money you would be spending, you're well within the range of a low-end dedicated anyway. Hi Eric, I know this thread is old BUT... This comment interests me a lot, and I hope that somebody can clarify for me that does 50 IPs on one dedicated server require multiple routers (like 2x IPs per router?) to manage all of the IP's communicating with the dedicated server?

Server Host That Gives Multiple IP Addresses
Our dedicated server runs our virtual machines for us and the NAT option is terrible...the virtual machines work REALLY well when they use a Bridged connection. The problem is that our virtual machines have to acquire an IP address somehow, and the hosting provider we currently use says they only give one IP address to our server which is fine if the NAT within the software worked really well...is there a webhost that can provide a setup where they have a router hooked to our dedicated server so if we need more local IP's they can be given/assigned by the router. This would then allow us to run our virtual machines much better. Does anybody know of a dedicated server host that will do this?
