View 10 RepliesI'm starting a small, local company in Illinois that will create web pages and host them for residents around my community such as lawyers, doctors, etc. I don't believe I should go with shared hosting because that would not be fair to my clients and I would like to give them good, reliable service so their business does well too. Which entry level, or basic dedicated server should I rent for this purpose? Since I'm just starting, I wouldn't want to overspend, but at the same time I do want performance for the few initial clients I receive. As my company grows, I'm sure I'll migrate into a more large scaled server(s). Any quotes or companies anyone can refer or think of? And possible quote for this type of server/situation.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Plesk 11.5 (service provider mode) on a Windows 2008 server IIS7.Most of my sites are developed in .asp and therefore i use a custom 500-100.asp error page that check s the IP of the visitor then displays either a friendly error, or if its my IP a full error of what has happened (it also emails me the error). This allows me to debug pages easily whilst developing and to keep an eye on anyone trying SQL Injection hacks on my sites (as the error and email also have session variables and IP address).I dont have root access to the server as it is a Webfusion dedicated server.I have following the Plesk documentation -
1) Switch on custom errors for the subscription
2) Look in virtual directories and navigate to error documents
3) Find the error in question (500:100) and change it to point at either a file or URL
FILE - I had the data centre add in the 500-100.asp error page in to the virtual template so that my page is available in the list of virtual files - this didn't work but that maybe because its not a static page??
URL - when i add the path it says its incorrect, if i add a fully qualified address, it accepts it but it doesn't work.give me a specific example of the URL that can be entered relative to the root as the format in the documentation isn't accepted. The last step is to restart IIS which is also an issue as i cant seem to do this from the Plesk panel..It is as if it isn't catching the 500:100 error, and only catching the general 500 error??
I've been asked to source a good Windows Server.
Must be able to source Graphon's Go-Global software (Graphon dot com/content/view/9/9/ )
Should be UK based if possible and allow us access to install the software.
A firewall will run me another $100. Is it worth it? Do any of you run a Windows server w/o a firewall.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWe've always used open source linux servers up until now. For a variety of reasons we're contemplating adding one windows box.
Is there much practical difference for the average small business between 2003 and 2008?
What's the difference between "authenticated" and "unauthenticated" windows servers?
How is most administration and regular tasks done? I'm used to sshing into my linux servers-- I'm assuming for windows this is gui based? What's the standard software used for this?
Can I run both Windows & Linux on a dedicated server? I currently have a website hosted on a shared hosting Linux web server (uses PHP, MySQL). I want to use RED5, which seems a bit tricky to set up.
Why Windows?
I would feel more comfortable installing RED5 on a windows server (I think it'd be easier for me, no experience with Linux command line etc.).
Why Linux?
I'd prefer to keep the existing PHP/MySQL website on Linux because I have Apache specific settings.
I am using linux dedicated servers, but I want to move over to Windows for some stuff I run...
Anyway, I need ideally 1000-1500gb bandwidth on 10mbs connection, ram&cpu is not important as they're very simple things but requires a lot of bandwidth. Location in Europe or USA, but whatever is cheaper...
Budget is anything upto £60/$120 a month.
I own a hosting company Perix Host. We are looking into moving into gaming server hosting.
To do this i need a dedicated server with Windows because the main gaming server we want to run (LFS) only works with Windows if you want your customer to be able to upload there custom wrote plugins. So my issue is i need a dedicated server. What do i get.
How much bandwidth would i need to host around 20 servers all running with 15 people on them. Im not sure of how much bandwidth the game uses but i could find it if anyone needs it.
I am a good systems administrator but I have never setup a windows web server. Are there any tutorials out on the web that would show me how to do it. Is it true when a dedicated server is purchased the only thing I have to do is transfer the htm or asp files?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs it actually possible to find Windows dedicated server with unlimited traffic (1Gb Pipe)and reliable 24/7 technical support? Cause I have searched and found out that if the traffic is unlimited the pipe is too small, and if the pipe is big enough traffic is limited and additional one costs a fortune.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm starting a multi-gaming organization and I'm hoping to run 3-4 servers at 1000FPS. The server i purchased is a Core2Quad 2.4, 4GB Ram, 500GB HD, 100MBIT windows 2008
I also purchased a TCAdmin license and have that setup and running. I know about the windows media player trick that makes it run at 500FPS and ive been doing that. Well i would like to get it to 1000FPS but ive been unsuccessful. Ive tried some reading about HPET but i havnt seen where i can change or enable that. what i can do to make them run at 1000FPS.
Dont know if this helps but the servers im hosting are CS 1.6, CSS and TF2.
I do not need much bandwidth usage, may be just couple G a month.
want the CPU is good.
If you have a server that is not used and willing to give me a better price since I use little bandwidth.
I usually host just PHP but a new client needs to use ASP and SQL Server. So I urgently need to find a UK based reliable Windows Managed Dedicated Server for around £100 to £150 per month.
The site only gets 1000 visits per week and runs a multi community from a 500MB SQL Server database.
I'm scared to go with a cheap host like 1&1 or Fasthosts but also think Rackspace may be way too expensive.
Is a dedicated server overkill for such a site?
Anyone know of a solid relaible host that can offer this with great 24/7 skilled support and daily backups.
I need to have a solution for client by Tuesday or they may go elsewhere.

I need to change the IP to a server dedicated Windows with Parallels Plesk installed and 200 domain's hosting.
Do I have to change the IP in the dns zone one at a time? I think it's possible to do it by reconfigurator (remote desktop).
We have a Fasthosts Dedicated Windows Server and I now need to run a PHP script to enable us to use a online enquiry form. I have contact Fasthosts and the are not able to advise how to enable/use these scripts as it falls outside the support package.
Does anyone know how to enable or make it work in the Matrix Control?

Trying to set Default Site for a Dedicated IP Address.
I go to Subscription, then to domain > Change Hosting Settings, select dedicated IP address and OK, works fine. Site goes to Default Plesk Page.
Go to Tools & Settings, IP Addresses > Select the dedicated IP address I set above. Change Default Site to site above. Click Ok.
I get the error message above and nothing changes.
I looked on my IIS Server and MailEnable's Webmail is installed under the Default Website.
I have another Dedicated IP on this server and it has a default site on it working properly, but it was set up on the old site and it was configured as part of the Migration using Migration Manager.
I tried deleting the IP address and adding it back in. That didn't change anything. I also tried running: "%plesk_bin%websrvmng.exe" –reconfigure-webmail since that came up under someone else's issue when searching the web and that .exe is what's throwing the error.

I have a Linux server running some reasonable setups:
Opteron 180, 4 GB RAM, running 8x 36gb 15k scsi with hardware raid 10 -- this is one of the servers from WebNX advertised here not long ago
Running CentOS 4(?), Apache2/MySql 4/PHP5.2, the normal stuff.
I have only one main site on the server, which runs a pretty old PostNuke CMS in Chinese (0.7.2.3 Phoenix) + PNphpBB2 + Gallery 1.5.7 (all integrated into PostNuke). This site is pretty light in "human" traffic, getting about 20K hits per day.
Now, the problem I have noticed with this site, is related to the many MP3 files stored in the Gallery albums. There are lots of HTTP requests to these files, most maybe from Chinese search engine bots (judging from IP), that slows the server to a crawl and even crashes Apache. This happens in the late hours here when it's day time in China. As a matter of fact I just did a reboot, and in 5 minutes there are more than 1000 HTTP requests to MP3 files resulting in a traffic of 2.1+ Gb. So within minutes, the server is brought to its knees again and I can't even get the "apache status" from CPanel now: "Unable to retrieve apache status".
The company that manages the server for me said there's no security problem here. We have installed an Apache extension to limit the number of simultaneous requests to media files to 1. However that doesn't seem to help.
My Dedicated server is being slow - hopefully someone can give a helping hand

View 5 Replies View RelatedWe just upgraded to VBulletin 3.6.5, and are experiencing strange behavior. My forums are on a dedicated server, 27,000 users.
We'll be running along fine with loads of .5-2.00, etc. Then suddenly, the loads start climbing to 50, 70, 85+. We've been trying to figure out why. We even went on a different (much more robust) server, still the same result. This only started happening after the upgrade. Restarting the server corrects the problem, but only until it happens again. It can happen at anytime - during peak or off peak. The server may run for an hour or two until this happens, or it can happen 10 minutes after a restart.
Late last night when loads were normal we benched the server hard, and it ran just fine. We just can't figure out where this load spike is coming from.

Looking for a windows dedicated server. At least dual core, 2gigs of ram, 10mb unmetered preferably and os xp/2003.
Content is racy, but not illegal. So need a host that can deal with that also.
is Cloud Windows VPS the same as a Load Balanced Windows VPS?
Basically, looking for redundancy and UK based solutions. Does anyone have any reviews for established companies offering the above?
