What's Better 250GB Or Unlimited For $5.00 Per Month
May 13, 2009
Which one would you prefer, $5.00 for unlimited or 250GB disk space? Of course with a 2-3 year contract to go along with that
Clearly everyone is familiar with overselling and unlimited overselling, but I want to know if customers trust a more limited approach to overselling or just removing the ridiculous limits and putting unlimited is a better idea? Clearly unlimited seems to attract more customers, because well it is unlimited and 250gb would be too restricting for a 100MB website
All I have is a big forum to host and I dont have much time to manage it - so a managed server is preferred. I also want cPanel on it.
futurehosting.biz really appealed to me but I was wondering if there was anything better, in terms of storage, bandwidth and RAM (also CPU, i dont know how much futurehosting give).
I would prefer if they had some kind of 24/7 live chat.
Anybody know the best place to get a really cheap server with at least 250GB drives? I'm assuming most providers offer HDD's of that size on relatively cheap systems now if we're just looking at SATA.
The machine doesn't need to be anything special, I don't need a ton of bandwidth.
Basically this will be an extra backup machine to pull backups from servers instead of my usual "pushing" of backup data.
So to clarify, I'm looking for a simple machine pretty much anywhere with some drive space! VPS just won't cut it because the drivespace they provide is too expensive (yes, I understand they have nice drive setups though).
RAID etc is not needed, I'm not running anything mission critical but would like to have more locations in place to hold backups for me. WHT worries me alot
I'm new to Private Virtual Server and the package offered by different company are quite confusing.
I was on RackForce and their basis VPS package dds200-L can host 100 domain names on Plesk and unlimited domain names on WHM/Cpanel.
On 1and1 it didn't say if Plesk support 100 or unlimited domain names. My question is, do we always have the liberty to host unlimited domain names on our PVS?
Whats ur take on Wired Tree folks, shall i jump the ship and provide them with utter bunny mayhem (cause i am known to be intolerably insane when my server is down). How is their overall support, and network and performance ? Anyone current got "Server" from them who would like to throw some light on their performance and services ?
willing to find a cheap vps hosting provider and when l check some of the threats here , l m meeting new terms.
What is a Busrtable Ram ? How does it effect the Real Ram ? and How does it effect the cpu performance ? like page file ? l really dont know whats it means.
I have been with Blue Virtual (bluevirtual.com) for many years, since the Communitech days. However, the service these past few weeks has gone downhill big time.
The BV forums are dead, the webhosting is up and down like a yoyo, mail is intermittent.
Not just me but fellow users are experiencing the same.
Support tickets are going unanswered (accounts & tech. support).
I run a large community site, and i was wondering what the max amount of images I should have in an image folder? I'm looking to upgrade to an image only server and setup subdomain folders to split up the files. right now i have about 200k+ image files in just the public image folder... thats not counting the thumbnail folder, private folders etc...
what people think about jaguarpc I haven't been there too long yet I find the servers some what slow... or I should say VPS's there customer service is good yet I found knownhost to be better performance wise.. I just want to know what others think
We are in the process building a new colocation facility and I wanted to take some input from everyone here. We have most of the infrastructure planning and layout done but were still early on in the construction phase so now is the last chance to get some input. I have two main questions I wanted to ask.
1)When your looking for a colocation facility what things are most important to you?
2)Have you ever wished that datacenters offered something outside the normal things that most providers do.
I have never understand this? Honestly, what is the point if they all point to one web server? I mean if the web server fails it doesnt do any good if you have 10 DNS servers. The only time it makes sense to me to run multiple DNS servers is if your DNS server is a piece of junk, and always goes down, which honestly doesnt happen that much.
My website suspended by a hosting service provider they told me that I try to send some spamming emails, the details about my website it's very small with 282 users (before suspended) I used phpBB version 2 and send news to users with phpBB send mail function. Frequency of sending is not more than 2 times a month and not every month.
I've already contacted the hosting provider they didn't help anything just say "Hold on" for 1 day a ago.
I've signed up with Wiredtree for a Managed VPS 12 days ago.
I know it's not enough time to write a review. But I decided to write my first impression then keep you updated by writing a new review at the end of each month, so expect one at 12 February.
For now, these guys are simply the best I've tried.
They reply you in 15 minutes or less and if it took them more, 20 minutes or something, then be sure that they're investigating your problem. If you can't wait for 15 minutes, then go ahead and give them a call on their toll-free number and they'll be with you second by second. Their support wont just solve your problem, but they'll educate you telling you what caused the problem and how did they fix it.
I'm solicitous about security. But with these guys, I finally sleep peacefully knowing that my VPS is well secured.
I spent 2 weeks reading the materials this company has on it's website, AND, asking them several pre-sell questions to see if they would 'fit the bill', so to speak.
After answering all my questions, I ordered a 'managed' server, because although I have had vps's and other hosting accts., I didn't feel confident managing my own server.
Plus, they have a summer "special" for only $49.90 for the first 3 months, on a 24 month contract.
WHAT A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE FROM THE VERY BEGINNING!
First, it took 2 and-a-half weeks to setup my server. I had to go screaming to paypal to get them to tell me my server was ready. (They SAY it'll be ready within 5 days) I had to cancel the contract, and rant and rave to get that far. (Who needs the stress - know what I mean?)
Also, I had called their support a couple times to try to get the status of my server order, and the people working for them, don't know a darn thing. I got sent to two different places, just trying to find out what had happened with my server order.
Anyway, I was satisfied that I finally had my server, and removed the claim at pp. The drama continues . . .
One of the questions I had asked them PRIOR to buying, is how much additional ip's would cost for this package. They gave me the cost, and I made a 'mental note' of it.
Last night, I sent an email to them requesting several more IP's, as I need them for several projects I've been WAITING to get started.
I was told that I can't HAVE additional IP's for my server. Has anyone EVER heard of that before?
Upon spending more time on the 'server' interface, it's nothing more than an admin panel, (not windows, whm, centos, or cpanel, etc.) that you can build 'a' website with.
Lots of FLUFF, but not the definition of a server AT ALL! It's somthing that a complete newbie would order because they can't make their own website.
So, now I've wasted almost a month screwing around with this company, and they out and out LIED to me, (I have the emails to prove it) and I'm left 'out' $50, all the time they wasted, AND, I don't know if I'm even going to be able to afford another solution until next month! I'm just getting started and my budget isn't very big, but I AM honest, and I pay my bills. I'm on disability, so I have to plan my budget carefully, until I get rich that is. (Sorry, sidetracked there, 'cause I'm VERY upset right now.)
Bottom line, this company sucks all the way around. I think they are just so big, that there isn't any personalized service at all, and their customer service people are dumb as rocks.
Avoid them like the plague!
Have a great day everyone. I've been crying all day, so I'm going to go do some aromatherapy with a hot bath and some candles. Tomorrow is another day, and hopefully God brings me another solution.
Does any dedicated server provider give a Virtuozzo license with unlimited VEs? I've noticed that most of them give 3, 10, or max. 100. Do you have any idea why wouldn't they give a license for unlimited VEs and why are they restricting the number of VEs that we can create on a server since, as far as I've understood, Viruozzo provides license considering the CPU no.s, but not the number of VEs.
I still doubt if they are really give their clients with unlimited disk space, unlimited data transfers and others something unlimited their offers. Please guys help me. Make a screen shoot from your cPanel if you have web hosting account from web host providers that offers unlimited services (hostmonster, hostgator, webhostingpad, lunarpages, bluehost, ect)
what do you consider unlimited? Is unlimited simply a marketing term? I've seen a few host go from offer 1000mb to just listing it as unlimited.
I could understand that after some time a person may become confused once they start using too many resources but was the "unlimited" just a trend other hosting companies have followed? or do you congregate somewhere and decided, hey we should do unlimited, lol.
I'm curious because I see these "unlimited" plans a lot, as a consumer I'm really starting to focus more on plans that do listed in numbers what you get as appose to just seeing the word unlimited.
Do u want to run an online e-commerce store? create a forum? or develop the next facebook or myspace? If you answered yes to any of th questions then there are very important factors you need to consider before choosing a host.
You have to understand that there's a difference between Database and database size. UNLIMITED database means that you have as many databases as you want, but of what use is an unlimited database if the disk size for the database is just 50MB for example. Don't be deceived by the number of database a web host company is willing to chun out. Do a little research, ask questions. Afterall you might not need an unlimited database afterall.
the industry is back to where it was about 8 years ago, when only a few companies offering unlimited were labeled as "scam". Now 8 years down the road, most of the large companies offering unlimited everything, but everyone is ok with it.
How low can these companies go? How will they keep up the competition since there is no more disk space or bandwidth left to compete on. Maybe start free hosting? Start giving out cash to sign up?
If you look at one of those Top 10 hosting web sites, you will see all the companies listed now offer unlimited everything, just different pricing structure. Since they all offer the same thing, wouldn't the person looking just click on the lowest price? Since most people aren't aware of overselling or the unlimited truth, they see it as something that they will never run out of. Average consumer is not aware of these marketing gimmicks.
Honestly if my cell phone provider was offering unlimited minutes for $45 per month, and another one was offering $100 for 1000 minutes my choice would be unlimited. I would even put up with a little bit of crap from the support for $45 unlimited talk time, and a few service outages.
