What Is Domain Transfer?
What does the concept of transferring a domain mean? I am asking all this because I have seen that freehostia has a service called: Domain transfer. It seems that it cost 9.95$. Then I would like to know what is the purpose of this domain transfer. I just thought that this domain transfer was the service provided for those who wanted to host a site in freehostia but had registered their domain with another company instead of with freehostia. What do you think about this?

So, could you help me understand the purpose and use of the service called transfering a domain that these two hosting providers mentioned above have?

How Do I Transfer The Domain
so this has been a drug out longer process than I realized it would be. I've never sold a website and I figured this would be a quick two-button process. I asked Host Gator what I needed to do and they told me to register the domain at Enom and then they would send me the EPP code. Well, I registered with Enom, sent them proof it was really me, and they told me I could view the EPP code on Enomcentral Well, I had contacted Enom and they told me that I had to ask Host Gator for help as they were responsible for helping clients with these types of issues. So, I contacted Host Gator and they referred me back to Enom... this is kind of pissing me off. My customer bought the website and domain and I've made an entire backup of the directory and he has that but the only thing left is to transfer the domain name to his preferred choice "Freeparking.com" and I just want to know how to do that. I noticed now the domain is under hostgator domains and all I need is the EPP code. Has anyone ever had to transfer a domain through Enomcentral and how in the holy hell do you find the EPP code?

So I went onto 1and1 to register my domain name. I went into the account today to cancel and have it transferred over to my host that I selected today. I recieve this email from my new host: We have received your domain transfer order for xxx***********, however we haven't processed your order yet since we noticed that the domain status currently shows: status: CLIENT-TRANSFER-PROHIBITED It is likely because you registered the domain name recently. As per ICANN guidelines, a domain can be transferred 60 days after registering only. You can confirm the reason by checking it with your current domain registrar. We request you to re-submit the domain transfer order after that. **So the other day when folks were telling me to buy a domain name from a cheap place no one said I would be stuck for 60 days. And when I spoke to 1and1 today they never said it would not transfer either..

I want to signup with Hostmonster and do a domain name transfer to HostMonster so that both email, domain name, and hosting is handled by Hostmonster. What are the exact steps to take to ensure that my email service is up all times (and not down during the 72 hours it takes for domain name transfers)? I thought transferring was simply assigning your domain to a different host. But apparently transferring is when you want to use a different domain registrar for your domain. So what would be the term for simply assigning a host to a domain? And do registrars or hosts usually charge for this?

What Happens W/a Domain Transfer
First let me say how glad I am to have found this forum (I just wish I found it sooner!) I have posted a few times this week here, and am learning so much! And I have oh-so-many questions, so please bear with me A little history.....I was w/freewebs for a few years as a free member, and recently I completely jumped to a premium member, without doing research (I didn't know any better at the time, but believe me I've learned my lesson) I bought (2) domain names the beginning of this month (Oct 9th). I read something about a 60 day wait before transfers can be done. I also paid for the full year on both names (I do have a ticket in w/freewebs for the auth code....another member of this forum gave me phone#'s if I have trouble getting the auth#) If I am not able to obtain the auth# from freewebs, I still want to move forward w/signing on with gatorhost....I was thinking of changing only one letter of my domain name. But if I do end up being able to transfer my domain name from freewebs to gatorhost, would I be able to create a whole new website with gatorhost under that domain name? My current domain/website is www.aphaperformancehorses.com, but if I'm able to change that to gatorhost, what happens when people type in that address? Will they end up being directed to my freewebs site? And what happens to my freewebs site, do I need to delete it? Or should, for now, I just cough it up to "a lesson learned

I've finally had enough and am done with ipowerweb. I wonder what their % uptime would be once you factor in that if you have a message board that goes down at least once a day. I have some domains I need to transfer, some of which erquire hosting and some of which require just to be held temporarily. I looked at quite a few hosting companies, but I found out .co.uk domains can only be transferred by EU companies. The sites aren't too big, but I would require PHP, MySQL (ideally unlimited databases), emails, etc.

Info To Transfer Domain Out Of IX Hosting
Summary on Issue I have with IX Hosting I am disappointed on the option provide to me by IX webhosting to resolved my issue. Summary: 1. My hosting and domain was handle by a previous staff which is charge to a CC belong to that staff. 2. The staff was fired and he filled a chargeback with his CC without me knowing it on the hosting. 3. Account was then suspended and there isn't anything that I can do about it. Option left for me: 1. Nothing that IX webhosting is able to do beside asking me to recontact my ex staff to contact his bank which is not possible (the case was closed by the bank according to my ex staff when i was able to contact him). 2. Spending another 1 - 2 year time to rebuilt another website to bring in traffic since the url and hosting are frozen by IX webhosting. 3. Filled a complain to complain board and point this problem out to public where an admin or account making payment for URL and hosting can screwed up the company at any one point while hosting with IX webhosting.

Reverse Domain Name Server (DNS) ARPA For Domain On VPS
I have a vps with dedicated ip's for my domain names. I read that in order for mails coming from my server not be picked up as spam, i need to add reverse ip entries. Now i have already added the glue nameserver records on my godaddy control panel, ns1.mydomain.com -> 10.20.30.40 ns2.mydomain.com -> 10.20.30.41 But do i need to speak to the datacenter to add the reverse dns entries for my domain on their nameservers? What about if i host my nameservers offsite, but then have my webserver/mailserver etc inside the datacenter? Would i need to request the datacenter where the nameservers are hosted to add the reverse ip entries for the domain, and then the request the same from the datacenter for my web/mail servers to add the reverse entries? Is it really required?

Domain Parking - Wildcard Domain Name Server (DNS)?
We have a lot of unused domains that we'd like to setup domain parking for. To keep it simple, we'd like to just change the namesevers to ns1.domainparking.com and ns2.domainparking.com (not real nameservers!) and the domains would then automatically show a simple web page. We use cpanel servers and are wondering how easy this is to do? I've seem mention of wildcard dns? Is that the answer?

Domain Parking With Win2k3 Domain Name Server (DNS)?
i have about 8 different domains i'd like to point to a nameserver (ns1./ns2.mydomain.com) on Win2k3 server, but i can't get them resolved through my nameserver without creating a manual forward lookup entry for each *parked* domain separatly.. Does anyone know how to resolve "parked" domains automatically on Win2k3 DNS?? I just can't find any answer for this, everything i've found required manual creation of lookup entries.. anyone?

32 Or 64bit & Existing Domain Net Vs New Domain
delving into a new server, a dual opteron w/Centos. Got two questions as I think about setup. 1) 32 bit or 64bit? 2) Regarding host names and server assignemt...I can either assign it as a node to a domain hosted elsewhere in a reseller account, or I can start with a completely unused domain which is currently parked. Any preference, in an ideal world? (I have absolutely no preference, but it occurrred to me it may or may not be of consequence, perfomance & IT-wise and generally speaking .. all things being equal, of course.) Like I said, a newbie. So I'm braced for the if-you-have-to-ask, you-shouldn't-be-in-one" musings for these rather basic boneheaders.

I'm setting my first eCommerce site and right now I need to resolve the following issue. I need to install (well, the hosting company will do it for me) a SSL certificate and I need to know what is best or common practice, to use domainname.com or www.domainname.com I don't know what difference it would make but it seems to do so because the hosting company is asking me to choose. How Do I Transfer My Reseller?
So I've got a reseller account set up with about 71 individual accounts created under it. What's the easiest way to create a backup of the reseller account (including all accounts created under it) and send it to my new VPS? I have SSH enabled on the reseller and root access on the VPS. Rsync seems somewhat intimidating but maybe I'm looking at it all wrong. I have limited command line experience. Maybe someone can shed some light on this for me? I'd like to have a method that I can get familiar with and re-use.

Cost Per GB Of Transfer
One of my clients just asked me if $4.50 per GB of transfer is a lot (as they just found out that's what their web host is charging them). I told them yes, because that seems ridiculously high to me, but I'd like to give them a ballpark figure for what that should cost. I can't find any hosts that charge per GB of transfer though. Any ideas what that should cost?

DN Transfer And A Record
I cannot use DN's so Ive had to use dot in place of periods below) I have a domain name registered with Netfirms - lets call it mydomain dot com. I didnt want to use their hosting services, just reg'd the DN with them. I host the mydomain dot com website on my home PC. In order to get both mydomain dot com and www dot mydomain dot com to resolve to my Home IP address I had to create an A record for each on the Netfirms Domain manager GUI. I have since purchased Hosting services from Webhostingpad dot com and now wish to move/point my mydomain dot com and www dot mydomain dot com to my webhostingpad dot com hosted account. When I spoke with Webhostingpad about pointing mydomain dot com to them they said all I had to do was use their Name Servers on the Netfirms side and I should be set. When I asked 'what about the A records? Do I need to create A records on their side for mydomain dot com and www dot mydomain dot com' they said 'Nope' - once its pointed to their NS I should be all set My questions are: - Why did I need to create A records on the Netfirms side to point to my Home IP? - Will what Webhostingpad is saying work (once I point my DN to their NS, and remove the existing A records on the Netfirms side, I should be good to go) - Will both mydomain dot com and www dot mydomain dot com resolve properly to my webhostingpad server? I just want to make sure this works before I do it and potentially down my website.

I have just signed up for a WHM reseller hosting account where I want to transfer all my websites from old hosting reseller account. So now, I have actually two reseller accounts: The old one is rather small with limited bandwidth. The new one has everything unlimited. So it's good deal for me. But It's gonna take years for me to transfer all my sites actually hosted in my old server. DNS Transfer
I have a client who has transferred her domain to my reseller account. The dns settings are all showing as being to my server: Problem 1 is that she can't see the new site. She is seeing a very old site (not her last one) on her PC even though she has done a full refresh and cleared out her temporary internet files. Problem 2 is that her emails aren't working. I can set up my computer to receive emails from her domain, and even though she is using exactly the same settings in Outlook it will not work for her (she has sent me screen shots so I know she it putting in the information correctly). I am at a loss about what to do with these two issues. She knows that others are not seeing the same site as her, but is getting frustrated and I'm afraid that it is affecting my credibility with her. I have submitted a support ticket to my provider (8 hours ago) and have not received a resopnse yet

I'm going to move one of my sites to hostgator. I have sharing plan on hostgator and going to setup this domain (which i'm going to move) as secondary domain. (addon domain) Both hosts are cpanel based. on hostgator i have ssh access, which i don't have on my current host Have backup.tar.gz of my site, but as hostgator staff said, it isn't usefull, as domain must be setuped as secondary domain.! The main thing is, that i need only /public_html/ directory files to move transfered to new host. Email, subdomain, databases aliases i move manually and setup. so just now, need to tranfer only static files from /public_html/ so my question is: As i said above i have site-backup.tar.gz file, which i move to public_html folder of hostgator account. I know, that to restore this file, i must put in /backup/ and only after this run restore. I'm going to do it in another way ... -as the only files that i need are files from public_html folder -and as hostgator staff response time is more than 3-4 hours -as i understand backup.tar.gz file is archive file What, if i put this file in any folder and run tar -xzvf? after this look where are my static files from public_html folder, and move it to their right location , and delete all other files, that i don't need ...

Dedicated Server Transfer
I changed servers. It's been three days since we swapped DNS, and I have a slew of people that still can't access anything. The thing is, the old server should have been set up to forward everyone to the new server, and it wasn't initially. This was done by the admin company by changing the "localhost" setting on the old config file for the mysql database to the new server's IP address. So, I have people, a LOT of people, who have been unable to reach anything for the last three days. Neither old server nor new server. Nothing, zip, nada. Yesterday, the admin company said that they had found something wrong with port 80, and had changed the settings, and we began to see some traffic, FINALLY. I though maybe we were fixed, but this morning, I still have a crapload of emails from people who can't reach anything. This was a cPanel to cPanel swap, in the same datacenter, on the same vlan. We're working on Day 4 here, and everyone seems to be guessing, and In get the sense that if I don't stay proactive, nothing will be resolved. Thing is, I know just enough about this stuff to be dangerous, which is why I pay professional server admins.
