FTP Transfer In PuTTy
May 2, 2009I am trying to transfer a 1.1GB file from one of my servers to one of my servers in another data center.
What command would I use inside PuTTy to transfer the file via FTP, not SFTP.

what do you guys use for shell access?
It's been 2 years since last Putty release, so would like to dump it in favor of something else.
How do I configure PuTTY to produce the equivalent of this command:
ssh -f root@xxx.xxx.xxx.xx -L 3333:yyy.yyy.yyy.yy:80 -N
So far the configuration I've come up with is:
Source Port: 3333
Destination: yyy.yyy.yyy.yy:80
"Local"
"Auto"
This doesn't seem to do anything at all. I don't use windows much, so go easy on me
I have setup a private/public key for myself so I can login to SSH with a different password now I need to setup for someone else.
Now do I put there public key in the same file as my public key on the server, or do I make a new file on the server?
I usually go mobile and I would need putty in my wm 6.1
is there some sort of "putty" or any other ssh tool where i can run ssh commands?
I'm trying to get to my server using putty but when i enter my root password is says its invalid when i know its valid because i can login with it in WHM.

When I open a file using "vi" command, it just open the file and I don't know how to edit it, by removing or adding text to it, so how can I do it?
What is the ssh command to initiate my FTP backup for WHM? I do not want to wait for the control panel cron and wanted to run it manually?

I use SSH Putty from my Windows PC to login to multiple Servers. So I usually have multiple Putty windows on my desktop.
How can I set Putty to display the hostname or IP Address of the server in the title bar - So it'd be easy for me to choose the right Putty Window.
Out of sudden today, my cPanel server box appear this kind of error on my putty screen. Just wondering what is that all about?

I’ve just switched to a deticated server. I have backups of sites I need to move over and restore. cPanel has a “Restore a Full Backup/cpmove” option. Two questions…
1) How do I upload the back up file to the /home directory of my deticated server?
2) If the backup file is under a current client “/home/clienta” how do I restore it?
I’ve also tried using puTTy to restore the file.
- logged into as “root”
- typed “cd /home”
- typed “/scripts/restorepkg domainname”
i use for login to ssh by putty
and i run very command and result
how may i saved all this command and result in putty?
I am having problem login to my server using root as login.
Here is the situation:
I have the root access for WHM as user1 for login, and password1 for password. This can allow me to login to my WHM.
However, in SSH (Putty) I tried to connect to the server using user1 as login, but when I typed password1, it said access denied..
I've setup my ssh to login with keys and passphrase. I would like to do away with passphrases by using agent forwarding. Putty uses Pageant to store private keys, bu from all the tutorials I can find, it's a windows based feature (to add private keys). I've also tried to use ssh-add (a different agent), but it has trouble recognizing my private key passphrase (made with putty). I know the private key is working because I'm able to use use ssh without a password, just the phrase.
What's the best way to do this? Is there a putty pageant command line that I don't know about?
what way to setup an server to server transfer?
I have set
Allow FXP transfers for authenticated users.
AllowUser FXP yes
on both servers but it doenst appear to work.
I have a client who has transferred her domain to my reseller account. The dns settings are all showing as being to my server:
Problem 1 is that she can't see the new site. She is seeing a very old site (not her last one) on her PC even though she has done a full refresh and cleared out her temporary internet files.
Problem 2 is that her emails aren't working. I can set up my computer to receive emails from her domain, and even though she is using exactly the same settings in Outlook it will not work for her (she has sent me screen shots so I know she it putting in the information correctly).
I am at a loss about what to do with these two issues. She knows that others are not seeing the same site as her, but is getting frustrated and I'm afraid that it is affecting my credibility with her.
I have submitted a support ticket to my provider (8 hours ago) and have not received a resopnse yet
So I've got a reseller account set up with about 71 individual accounts created under it. What's the easiest way to create a backup of the reseller account (including all accounts created under it) and send it to my new VPS? I have SSH enabled on the reseller and root access on the VPS.
Rsync seems somewhat intimidating but maybe I'm looking at it all wrong. I have limited command line experience. Maybe someone can shed some light on this for me? I'd like to have a method that I can get familiar with and re-use.
What does the concept of transferring a domain mean? I am asking all this because I have seen that freehostia has a service called: Domain transfer. It seems that it cost 9.95$. Then I would like to know what is the purpose of this domain transfer. I just thought that this domain transfer was the service provided for those who wanted to host a site in freehostia but had registered their domain with another company instead of with freehostia. What do you think about this?
Well, I have seen this choice of transfering a domain in another site called: http://www.bluereef.net/support/serverbasics/dns.html
So, could you help me understand the purpose and use of the service called transfering a domain that these two hosting providers mentioned above have?
I have one domain hosted as addon on Plesk. Now i want to migrate this add on domain from one user account to another user account. Is it possible to do this from plesk?
View 3 Replies View RelatedOne of my clients just asked me if $4.50 per GB of transfer is a lot (as they just found out that's what their web host is charging them). I told them yes, because that seems ridiculously high to me, but I'd like to give them a ballpark figure for what that should cost. I can't find any hosts that charge per GB of transfer though. Any ideas what that should cost?
View 9 Replies View Relatedi have a dedi with 2 hdd's (2x160gb)
I need more space so i requested another hdd but they said that the server can only have 2 hdd's.They told me that i can upgrade to a 250gb hdd.(1x160gb,1x250gb).
BUT HOW will the data from the one hdd will be transfered to the other 250gb hdd?
i have two domain names:
domain.net and domain.com
I want to transfer the FTP content of domain.com to domain.net without havin to do it manually, (transfering data to my PC via FTP and resending it again)
Is that possible in WHM? and How?
Will it work with "Restore a Full Backup/cpmove file"?
I cannot use DN's so Ive had to use dot in place of periods below)
I have a domain name registered with Netfirms - lets call it mydomain dot com. I didnt want to use their hosting services, just reg'd the DN with them. I host the mydomain dot com website on my home PC. In order to get both mydomain dot com and www dot mydomain dot com to resolve to my Home IP address I had to create an A record for each on the Netfirms Domain manager GUI.
I have since purchased Hosting services from Webhostingpad dot com and now wish to move/point my mydomain dot com and www dot mydomain dot com to my webhostingpad dot com hosted account.
When I spoke with Webhostingpad about pointing mydomain dot com to them they said all I had to do was use their Name Servers on the Netfirms side and I should be set. When I asked 'what about the A records? Do I need to create A records on their side for mydomain dot com and www dot mydomain dot com' they said 'Nope' - once its pointed to their NS I should be all set
My questions are:
- Why did I need to create A records on the Netfirms side to point to my Home IP?
- Will what Webhostingpad is saying work (once I point my DN to their NS, and remove the existing A records on the Netfirms side, I should be good to go)
- Will both mydomain dot com and www dot mydomain dot com resolve properly to my webhostingpad server?
I just want to make sure this works before I do it and potentially down my website.
so this has been a drug out longer process than I realized it would be. I've never sold a website and I figured this would be a quick two-button process.
I asked Host Gator what I needed to do and they told me to register the domain at Enom and then they would send me the EPP code. Well, I registered with Enom, sent them proof it was really me, and they told me I could view the EPP code on Enomcentral
Well, I had contacted Enom and they told me that I had to ask Host Gator for help as they were responsible for helping clients with these types of issues. So, I contacted Host Gator and they referred me back to Enom... this is kind of pissing me off. My customer bought the website and domain and I've made an entire backup of the directory and he has that but the only thing left is to transfer the domain name to his preferred choice "Freeparking.com" and I just want to know how to do that.
I noticed now the domain is under hostgator domains and all I need is the EPP code. Has anyone ever had to transfer a domain through Enomcentral and how in the holy hell do you find the EPP code?
I have 2 webserver.
the first is running WS2003 EE and has my SSL certificate on it.
The other runs WS2008 EE.
I want to transfer my SSL Certificate from IIS6 in WS2003 to II7 in WS2008.
how can I do this? I am trying to do a migration/transfer from old webserver to new webserver.
So I went onto 1and1 to register my domain name. I went into the account today to cancel and have it transferred over to my host that I selected today. I recieve this email from my new host:
We have received your domain transfer order for xxx***********, however we haven't processed your order yet since we noticed that the domain status currently shows:
status: CLIENT-TRANSFER-PROHIBITED
It is likely because you registered the domain name recently. As per ICANN guidelines, a domain can be transferred 60 days after registering only. You can confirm the reason by checking it with your current domain registrar. We request you to re-submit the domain transfer order after that.
**So the other day when folks were telling me to buy a domain name from a cheap place no one said I would be stuck for 60 days. And when I spoke to 1and1 today they never said it would not transfer either..
I have a WHM reseller, and am hosting my cousin's site. He wants all of his databases and info transferred to another hosting account he has with me. How can I do that for him, without losing anything and what have you?
