The past few days I have had to request an additional IP address from my hosting provider and I was confronted with ARIN regulations. Though I had heard of them, I have ever actually been told usage must me in accordance to those.
I got an answer which told me I should be OK, but it still remains vague. I have looked though ARIN's web site but nothing gets any clearer. So, I'd like to ask here: does anybody know what would be justified IP usage according to ARIN? Are there boundaries, do IPs get pulled if they aren't justified?
(I'm talking about IPv4)
(Mods: I was unsure where to place this, but this seemed the place where I could get the most useful responses)
I'd like to get IP's direct from ARIN and use with a colo or dedicated server I run a few dozen domains almost all of which are ecommerce sites the ones which accept credit cards of course have SSL and a dedicated IP all the others right now are taking offline payments i'd like to get them all setup with SSL with their own IP since they are starting to bring in more sales. Sites right now are being hosted all over the place mainly vps and shared. I want to have them all on one or more servers that I have complete control over including the IP's. I'm new to the forums but did search for arin and read a few posts about the justification and from what I read SSL is justified to get IPs. Can anyone give me more information on what I should be doing first before applying or how to go about it with them. I'm looking at arin's fee schedule and i would apply under the x-small/micro allocation how much smaller from /20 do they go is there a specific number of IP's i would get for the app fee of $1250 a year or how does that work exactly?
I'm currently using iptables to ban IP addresses from the servers, like:
Code: iptables -A INPUT -s xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -j DROP I ran a "spam trap" for the last few months and now I have over 11000 IP addresses who were trying to spam on my website (guestbooks, phpBB and forms) and I want to ban them all (pretty sure bots run from them).
My question - is iptables the way to do it? I mean does banning such a large number of addresses have any significant performance or other issues I should be aware of (except of the fact I may be banning some legitimate traffic)? Is the -A INPUT the way to ban them all or is there a more appropriate way of baning such a number of addresses?
I'm on CentOS 4.5 i686, Apache/1.3.37, Pentium D 930, 2GB RAM.
I'm trying to figure out how many domains and subdomains I can get with each plan from Network Solutions, Enom and Yahoo. Is there any set standard of number of subdomains per domain? Network Solutions gives you one domain for two of their plans, three for the third, but says nothing about subdomains...
I couldnt find the right subforum for this topic .. so i hope I am attracting the right viewer here.
We have a AS number in one datacenter and are going to open another totally separate datacenter.
Can we use the same AS number in both datacenters?
We use default BGP routes in a active/passive configuration. I would like to speak with someone who has knowledge of BGP, AS. happy to pay for a consultant if needed. want to make sure we set this up right.
I use APF and APF is working with iptables , when I define a large number of IPs in deny_hosts.rules or allow_hosts.rules and restart the APF , iptables begins to display errors after applying some number of rules , I have set SET_TRIM="0" in APF , so the number of APF rules is unlimited and the error is from iptables.
Is there any setting in iptables config files for maximum number of rules?
Is it unlimited and depends only on system available memory? O/S , ...?
Has anyone tried to call the BurstNET toll-free number recently? (1-877-BURSTNET)
I'm trying to over skype and it's not working, i make a lot of calls internationally using skype and don't have issues and have talked to various people/companies on toll-free numbers before. (P.S - I have skype credit in my account also, so that's not the cause)
It' basically either returns with Number Not Available/Found or it dials out.
I am setting up a payment form on a WordPress site (SSL-encrypted).
In testing, I came across the oddest problem. If I submit a field on a form to a WordPress page with a 16-digit number in it, no matter what the field name is called, I get WordPress's 404 page. Obviously that prevents taking credit card numbers.
If I submit a 15-digit number or no number, the form POSTs fine.
"GET /buytest HTTP/1.1" 200 21830 ...
"POST /buytest HTTP/1.1" 404 3725 ...
I have disabled mod_security on the server to rule that out, there's nothing in audit_log, error_log (or the SSL named log files) other than those accesses when I make these attempts.
I'm going to start looking for a "no 16 digit numbers" filter in WordPress, but somehow I doubt that exists. Any ideas for how to debug this?
I have small issue with load speed of pages when number of apache running processes goes over +-310, during peak traffic of day. IE: They load really slow.
Here's pic of what I mean:
Only thing that fixes it temporarily (at least until peak traffic ends) is to stop either httpd or mysql for several seconds, as everything cools down, then start it back up. Stop/starting mysql usually has longer terms temporary fix.
Anyway, would you have any ideas on what to configure or change within the system in order to keep the processes under 300?
The load is normal. Even at load 40, pages are blistering fast, as long as processes are under 300. So it's got nothing to do with load.
I would like to know what is the maximum number of Apache connections a Server can handle? Does this depends on the Config of the Server? Is it Possible for a server to handle more than 2500 Active Apache connections without timeout / connection failure / slowness?
One of my hosts I am using is Cobrahosts. It looks like that they not giving support anymore, because their url [url] goes to 1 & 1. Also they don't reply to emails I send and their phone number is out of service. I am still paying them and my sites with them are online. Anyone can help me out with a contact number? Many
