CPanel - How To Throttle/limit Number Of Emails Sent Via Script

Mar 30, 2008

cPanel server with EXIM.

Seems the standard feature there - number of emails per hour limit is not working in this case of script emailing.

Any way to limit the number of emails sent via .php scripts or/and throttle this emailing speed cause in the case of spamer the server load hit the roof.

Limit Outgoing Messages (QMail)

Nov 9, 2009

We've got a dedicated server at our company that hosts several sites and email accounts. Today I noticed that in the mail queue (from Plesk) we have like 5 or 6 messages from the same customer with around 400 destination addresses for EACH one. This would be like 2000-3000 emails to be sent. It isn't spam as it's some kind of newsletter.

I don't really know how the QMail server handles this, but it's been 5 hours since some of those messages entered the queue, and they are still there, so it seems that is having some difficulty.

I don't pretend to limit the amount of emails an user can send per minute or per hour, but I would like to know if there is any way of managing the queue like, lets say, send 50 message per minute. As far as I know, the mail queue right now (by default) starts sending the messages as they come, which means it could send 1000 in a few seconds if it can handle it.

I don't even know if this would be better or worse, meaning that maybe messages could get queued when the server could handle them, so some customers would see that emails are not working instantly as they do now. It also would be good if this tool (if exists) could report the current status of the queue, saturation, etc...

We're a bit worried because a couple of days ago we had some kind of attack and our server started sending hundreds of emails with fake sender and the CPU went overloaded and the mail queue was too big.

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: Cannot Limit Number Of Backup Files

Oct 30, 2014

I'm running Plesk v12.0.18 #22 on Ubuntu 12.04.

In the plesk backup-settings I've set the max. number of backup-files to 5.

Actually Plesk doesn't limit the number of backups stored in the local repository.

So unfortunately the partition is running out of space.

What can be done to solve that problem?

Qmail With Large Amounts Of BCC Recipients Receiving 20 Times The Emails

Jan 5, 2007

Everything on our Qmail installation is working fantastic except for one thing (most of the qmail patches are installed from [url]:

If a user sends an email to several recipients, often times, all users of the list will receive several copies (10 times or more) of the email.

So far I think the situation is that a user sends a weekly update (sort of mini mailing list to 20 users or so) by just adding them as BCC in their outlook.
Then I think one of the 20 emails bounces or throws back a deferral, and then qmail resends the email many many more times not only to the bounced recipient (but also to the entire list of recipients in the BCC)

Plesk 11.x / Linux :: Qmail - Emails Not Delivered To Mailboxes / Stay In Queue

May 26, 2014

I'm having a hard time figuring why me emails are not delivered to mailboxes.

A bit of context:
OS: Ubuntu 12
Plesk pannel: 11.5

This server was supposed to be a new server (upgrade) from a previous who was working correctly (Also Linux with Plesk but both older versions).

After new server installed and websited up and running, I decided to create mailboxes and then copied all mailboxes (including emails and folders) to this new server.

First issue I got was i could not connect, until I figure out permissions were incorrect (for root after copy) and fixed it to be accessible by "popuser" (each user to access his mailbox).

Now i can connect, but new emails stay on qmail and can't be delivered to mailboxes.

Even after I have deleted the emalboxes and recreate them (now new emails are being delivered) all those emails in the queue can't be delivered.

I forced queue flush with "postqueue -f" but I get errors on the log:

(temporary failure. Command output: .qmail has prog delivery but has x bit set. (#4.7.0) 4.2.1 Message can not be delivered at this time )...

Which user should i give permissions (if that is the case) so tha both popuser (email user) and qmail/postfix can write on the mailboxes and deliver messages?

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: Backup And Quota - Limit Number Of Cores Backup Zipping Tool Uses?

Aug 15, 2014

I have 2 problems:

Firstly I wonder if there is any possibility to limit the number of cores the plesk backup zipping tool uses? This pigz takes up all my CPU. Is there any way I can reduce the amount of cores it uses because all my websites are down every time a backup takes place for around 3 minutes.

Secondly I get the following in my syslog:

1 baby plesk sendmail[20189]: Error during 'check-quota' handler

I don't know what is wrong. I think it's since the upgrade to Plesk 12. I now have 12.0.18 Update #13.

WHM Limit On # Of Emails Per Domain Per Hour

May 16, 2007

My server currently has 500 set for this parameter. However, I have some scripts that send out reminders and the number of emails will certainly exceed this limit. So this leads to some questions...

What will happen if my scripts try to send out more than the limit?

What happens when the limit is exceeded? Do the scripts "crash", or do they just keep running? Do the "over quota" emails just get discarded or do they get queued?

How does this affect performance? Or maybe it doesn't?

Does the email queue get clogged up if it has too many emails?

What could be bad about increasing the limit - say to 2000? Would this create performance problems for my server?

I have a couple sites that I'm hosting and I would prefer to keep the limit of 500.

However, how can I increase the limit for my own scripts (domains)?

Or, perhaps this option has nothing to do with performance and it's strictly in place as a security measure to prevent hosted accounts from spamming.

I searched for information concerning this issue and couldn't find anything. The cPanel/WHM forum doesn't say what the parameter is for, just how to set it.

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: Triggering Outgoing Emails Limit

Oct 21, 2014

I have a plesk 12 panel with outgoing email limit configured to 10 messages by hour.

I have a redirect account (An account named for example A, without mailbox, doing forward to another two internal accounts B and C). I doesn't know if these account are in use for outgoing email, but i think no.

The problem, are, these account are triggering the outgoing limit everyday on some hours. What's going on? Maybe the forwarding action are counting outgoing emails?

I need some method to check account when they trigger the limit to view who messages are trying to send (At least, headers, because i doesn't understand who messages are triggering limit). Also, if the problem are the forwarding, i need a method to not count these messages as outgoing ones, because i understand, if forwarding are triggered by an automated action / internal redirect / received message, these message doesn't are a outgoing one.

Plesk 11.x / Windows :: Limit Notification Emails To Specific Administrator

May 21, 2014

The 'Additional Administrator Accounts' feature enables a Plesk login to be created for each administrator, so they don't have to share a login, which is good practice.

However, Plesk sends notification emails (e.g. Notification of problem domains) to all the administrators. How can we control who is sent notification emails? In our case, we only want them to go the main admin account.

In the 'Additional Administrator Accounts' form, the 'email' field requires a value. We could set this to a dummy value, but this would probably generate non-delivery emails.

We're absolutely unable to track or find out who is sending it or how to stop this.

So I'm wondering if it is possible to prevent sendmail from sending to:

lsean.ezweb.ne.jp, OR
