W2k3 Server Cant Generate Logs All Of A Sudden
Feb 23, 2007One of my servers stop generating server logs, ftp logs etc all of a sudden since yesterday. It is a windows IIS 6 server, anyone have any idea on how to repair?

Why 500 Server Error All Of A Sudden
May 14, 2007I started getting 500 Server Error when trying to access my image gallery (Gallery 1.0) here:

Server Optimization Help Request - VERY High Sudden Loads
Mar 3, 2007We just upgraded to VBulletin 3.6.5, and are experiencing strange behavior. My forums are on a dedicated server, 27,000 users.
We'll be running along fine with loads of .5-2.00, etc. Then suddenly, the loads start climbing to 50, 70, 85+. We've been trying to figure out why. We even went on a different (much more robust) server, still the same result. This only started happening after the upgrade. Restarting the server corrects the problem, but only until it happens again. It can happen at anytime - during peak or off peak. The server may run for an hour or two until this happens, or it can happen 10 minutes after a restart.
Late last night when loads were normal we benched the server hard, and it ran just fine. We just can't figure out where this load spike is coming from.

Apr 4, 2015I've had a server running for a year or so and all of the sudden the server error log started outputting a very strange message that i've never seen before:

'groups' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
From what I understand this means apache is trying to run a program that doesn't exist, what could be triggering this?

I recently received this messsage from in my mailbox "Unable to generate the web server configuration file on the host <nsxxxxxxx.ovh.net>" which is coming now every hour for 4 days now.
I first tried to regenerate an apache conf file with the magic on my Centos 6:
# /usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/httpdmng --reconfigure-all
but it gives me this output:

Jul 30, 2014I've updated to Apache 2.4.10 from 2.4.9 and all of a sudden my pages don't load anymore.Previously I had this issue rarely and closing the PHP-cgi.exe processes fixed it.But since the update the issue happens almost constantly.

May 4, 2007so after successfully installing and testing litespeed last night along on alternate port 1080 on my cpanel setup, I try to look at my cpanel's awstats this morning and:
Error: Couldn't open server log file "/usr/local/apache/domlogs/example.net" : Permission denied
(awstats has worked fine for 5 weeks now)
Googling for this shows other people with similar problem in the past but unfortunately no answers
I tried chmod -R 644 /usr/local/apache/domlogs
and looks like the owners are still correct
I'm at a loss and really screwed if I can't easily fix soon... any ideas?
(as a side note, litespeed has stopped working properly too but I've killed it for now)

Sep 4, 2007All my sites on both my hosting accounts are infected with an iframe.
At the end of the index.html files the malicious code just appeared...suddenly 3 weeks ago.
The host blamed Joomla so I took the appropriate steps:
Upgraded my Joomla to the latest version, changed the whole account username and password, changed the configuration and template to unwriteable.
It stopped the injection for a few days but then it came back.
I would also like to add that 2 other sites on my account, one simple index.html file and an old website I have that is totally HTML with nothing to do with Joomla also got infected.
The iframe also infected a Drupal install I did as a test.
So according to these fact is this a Hosting Company not taking responsibility or can a Joomla site infected spread to other normal HTML sites and different CMS's on the server?
This situation is ruinning me and I strongly suspect it's a Hosting problem and not Joomla.
Any expert opinions from true professionals would be appreciated because if I can prove that it's not a Joomla issue I might take legal action against the hosting company since this has cost me dozens of hours of work and several hundred dollars of lost revenue.
I am attaching the iframe exploit. It installs itself on every index file...in every folder - components, mambots, ect..additionally it attaches itself on any and every kind of addon that has an index.html file.

I find it a pain to look through the logs using PICO since it won't scroll and I'm a slight linux mainly windows guy.
Is there a way to either copy the whole log at once over to notepad or something or to download the file to my local PC?
Then I could go through it much easier.
I tried using copy in putty but that only copies the screen and these logs can be huge sometimes.

We tested the same on another server and we are able to get the right results. And the current host doesn't allow us to access the server logs unless we upgrade the account to VPS and Dedicated server. Is there any way to disallow connections to SEND mail FROM my server to specific IPs? (Similarly to how you can limit connections to sshd from certain IPs)
I realize I cannot disable everything completely, as yahoo and the likes will have to connect to deliver mail. But no one of any use is going to try and connect to send mail, but a spammer.
No one has gotten in and abused it as of yet (knock on wood), but SMTP is being restarted at random and I can only imagine that this is being caused by one of these scumbags probably ddos'ing me. It takes eons to browse these logs, even if they restart via logrotate periodically!

performance metrics: a tool for collecting data must be reconfigured.
There are many excellent software solutions for those particular jobs, say configuration management (Puppet, Chef, cfengine, bcfg2), monitoring hosts and services (Nagios, Zabbix, OpenNMS, Zenoss, etc) and performance metrics (Ganglia, etc). But each of these tools has to be configured independently or at least configuration has to be generated. What tools do you use to achieve this?
For example, when you have to deploy a new server, how do you create configs for, let's say, PXE boot server, Puppet, Nagios and Ganglia, at once?

Bind $GENERATE Statement Overriding
Nov 5, 2007I am configuring a bind reverse DNS zone to use the $GENERATE statement. This works well. But If I add a single IP record after or before the $GENERATE statement I get 2 PTR records for that IP (which is expected I guess).
Does anyone know if it's possible to report only 1 PTR record for a single IP (host) record?
