Vectoral And Its Servers

Mar 29, 2008

This is my second go around with a dedicated server provider. My first was with jmhservices (reseller for somebody-would love to know who). At JMH I had decent speeds via different protocols (ftp) etc. I had been told that vectoral was one of the best, so I gave them a shot. I know their machines are on 100 mb shared connection, but the speeds are ridiculously slow. My only conclusion is that they have thir connections way overloaded. My advice to anyone considering vectoral is this: LOOK ELSEWHERE!

Vectoral Servers Cancellation

Dec 31, 2008

a bit over a month ago i ordered a dedicated server from vectoral servers and it said they are usually online within 24 hours but to give them up to 72 hours. so i waited and after 4 days i ordered another server from another company which came online in 12 hours. so i emailed vectoral asking them to cancel the order and refund my money.

i got no response.

6 days after ordering the server i received an email from vectoral with details of the server. i then sent them another email saying please dont bill me again, i have no use for the server now and just cancel it.

again i got no reply and now i have seen they have just charged my card again. so now im being forced to do a chargeback, complaint to visa and the merchant processor and try to get them blacklisted off my card or i might even need to order a new credit card.

be very careful this company chooses not to respond because of their horrible customer service they seem to be very desperate for money even to the point of outright credit card fraud.

i will update this with the results of my chargeback, hopefully it will tip the limit on their merchant account and they will lose it.

Vectoral Servers - Appalling

Mar 31, 2008

I ordered a server from them on friday at around midday. The confirmation e-mail stated that I would recieve a call to confirm the order. This never happend.

I tried phoning them...kept getting cut off. I tried live chat on their site...never any operators available.

I opened a support ticket to find out what was going on. They replied stating that server would be ready by monday morning at the latest, and I would recieve a call from the activation team once it was ready.

This call....never came.

I phoned them earlier today, finally got through to someone who told me that the server was ready, and I was just waiting for a call from their activation team which I would recieve within 4 hours. It has now been over 5 hours, and I have heard nothing at all.

I thought I would try their live chat again to find out what was going on, but that keeps going on and offline every 5 minutes, or so it would seem.

I'm now going to give them a further 24 hours to contact me, after which time, if I haven't heard from them, I will be reporting the matter to trading standards.

If anyone from Vectoral servers see's this, can you please let me know what is going on.

Vectoral ..

Apr 22, 2008

I was making a kernel update today. And i made a mistake and server is offline now. I created a ticket at 1 pm to vectoral.

I also scheduled kvm to earliest time, same day at 8 pm.

And i create a ticket them asking if they have a chance to schedule an earlier kvm for me. 12 hours passed, no answer.

I know about usually it takes 24 hours to reply tickets but i don't want any help from my hosting company. I just want them to put kvm to my server.

And about schedule, it says i scheduled kvm for 22 April at 8 pm. It is now 23 April 12:40 am at England time. And that request is still pending.

Most of the time, even there is no officially time table for support, vectoral's support doesn't answer threads before 12 pm.

I am wondering what kind of support team they have, i guess they are checking tickets every 2 days.

Beware Of Vectoral.info

Dec 20, 2008

I've used them before and haven't had issues, but recently purchased a $30 server. I paid through paypal and 3 days later still hadn't heard from them. I e-mailed support and billing several times with no response. On the 4th day I put a claim in on paypal. Vectoral responded within 50mins:

* 12/19/2008 11:38 PST - Buyer: I still have not received my server and I've contacted you numerous times about my server and you've failed to respond. If someone e-mails your customer support you respond back. I will take my money elsewhere.

* 12/19/2008 12:29 PST - Seller: The payment is for a service, a dedicated server lease which is also an intangible item and not covered under PP policies, the user was provided with the server but then requested a refund, our TOS states no refunds are possible. This transaction is not covered under the PP buyer protection policy as its a server lease/service/intangible item. Please close case according with the PP policy. Thank you - kind regards, Vectoral Servers - Evrim SAYINKUL

* 12/19/2008 12:29 PST - PayPal: Seller escalated this dispute to a Claim.
" the user was provided with the server but then requested a refund" that line makes me the angriest. They never provided me with my server and haven't responded to ONE support ticket. On top of that they deleted my vectoral login info completely off their site, my e-mail cannot be found.

Their number on [url]is disconnected; also, directory services cannot find them either.

I could careless about $30, but it's ridiculous they won't answer one e-mail, then respond to paypal with details about their TOS.

I'd be VERY careful if you plan on getting a new server through them. It almost feels like they've gone bust or something.

If you have a server through them and wanna cancel because you love me, I'll give the e-mail I used and you can tell them they lost your service because of this. Them losing just one client is worth it to me.

Vectoral.info Review

Sep 12, 2007

Sales - quickly after I put a ticket if they had any servers in stock they made space for one server and I ordered it.

Support - do you need them? I submitted a ticket to reboot my server but you can do that through the control panel and configure the DNS from there as well etc

Network - the lovely part , fast to all european servers around I can do a full 12mb/s without a problem on my 100mbit server I havent tested the speed to the USA but only to one place but I got 150kb/s (this is just to one host). But I don't need this server for USA so no worries!

Billing - they set my account up in no time , paid with paypal didnt have to send no paperwork in but I am already verified so maybe thats why?

I have a VERY small server with them a 30GB HDD (lol so tiny) and a Celeron something server it runs good so far but after this month (2nd month already) I will be upgrading to a much higher server to the Santa package.

Well there is my quick review I only used them for a month but I can already tell good from bad :| on hosts since they got very good reviews before I signed up with them now upgrading to expand my business

Hardware: Db Servers, Web Servers, File Servers. Cpu, Ram, Disk

Jan 20, 2007

I have a lot of questions here so if you can't answer them all I understand. even pointing me somewhere where I could get the answers would be appreciated; hardware sites focusing on server hardware, forums focusing on such, etc.

we plan to have three different types of servers:

- db server (self explanatory. mysql. for forums, mysql driven sites.)

- file server (lots of files around ~2-10MB, consistant 70mbps right now, but we want more room for upgrades. needs a LOT of storage room.)

- web server (lots of php files, but also static things like plain html, images, etc. also includes all misc services for the setup-- dns, etc.)

could I be given a rundown for which hardware each of the three should have? I don't need specifics, even just knowing that more ram is important here while cpu doesn't matter as much, or that the fastest disks available are a must, etc would all be valuable info for me. despite that, I certainly wouldn't mind specific hypothetical hardware configs.

for the database server I'm assuming the more ram the better. not entirely sure about the cpu? also not positive on disks...

for the fileserver, how much ram would be practical or useful? disk io will be an issue I'm because plenty of people will be pulling files at once so the disk needs to read from multiple places. scsi (and even raptors) are not an option as we need 750GB+ of space on a reasonable budget. more ram will take some load of of the disks, but how much is neccessary / reasonable?

for the web server I'm assuming cpu first, then ram, but it'll likely need less ram than the db server?

I'm more lost on the disks than anything. scsi on the fileserver is not an option under any circumstances due to $/GB. for the db & web server I'm willing to pay for scsi if the performance increase really does warrant the extra money, but I'd like to be convinced before shelling it out. if you have benchmarks geared at server hardware when it comes to disks I'd really appreciate it.

also, what's the best way to network these together when colocated? each one with a dual gigabit ethernet port and then the communications go to and from the router?

Load Balancing 2 Web Servers And 2 MySQL Servers

Mar 28, 2008

I was wondering if it is possible to cluster 2 web servers and 2 mysql servers with only one server working as load balancer.

I am planning to use LVS (ldirectord and heartbeat).

Let's say I have 3 IPs allocated to the load balancing server.

111.222.111.222 (Main IP)
111.222.111.223 (Web Load Balancing IP)
111.222.111.224 (MySQL Load Balancing IP)
If a connection is made to .223 it would pass the request to one of the web nodes.
If a connection is made to .224 it would pass the request to one of the MySQL nodes.

Is it possible to do this?

If not, can I run, for example, nginx on 223 IP address to provide forward proxy? (Then it would not be able to HA but the main point is to load balance so)

Also, what would be the best way to keep the data same on both web servers? This is a web cluster for a very high traffic forum with a lot of uploads every hour so it has to do real time synchronization. I heard that DRDB is only one way and not two way so I'm not going to be able to use this.

Renting Colocated Servers As Dedicated Servers

Oct 11, 2009

I am just colocating servers and managing them myself, and renting services off of them. In the future I would like to start offering dedicated servers as well. I am wondering if many companies do this, or if its more of a general practice to just setup as a reseller? The worst part that comes to mind is thinking of how to do billing for the bandwidth per month. With my setup I would only be offering flat bandwidth packages (like 2TB a month) but even so, I cant think of anyway to automate it so WHMCS knows if they went over, if so, how much, etc.

Name Servers

Aug 6, 2009

I have recently purchased new hosting with a new supplier which uses a different kind of control panel - cpanel. So before I transfer our organisations website across I want to spend some time playing.

We purchased our domains with 123 reg and the host we have been using for a while is namesco our new hosting package is with neither of these suppliers.

Before I transfer our primary domain to the new host I'm doing a dummy run with one of our other domains and that's where i've come up with this name servers question.

The new host gave me the name of their 2 name servers.

But when I went to my control panel at 123 reg to change the name servers they were not using namesco name servers they were using 123's.

Do I want to change the name servers to the new name servers or not? I'm a bit confused as i was expecting to see namesco names servers?

DNS Servers

Sep 1, 2007

I've just ordered my first VPS (unmanaged) and the only thing I'm really concerned about is setting up/using a DNS server.

I think I have 3 options.

1. Set up BIND on my VPS... this doesn't look like much fun and offers no redundancy. I'd prefer not to do this.

2. Outsource the DNS server. I'd like to use a free one if possible [url] looks good... anyone had any experiences?) but suggestions of cheap services are also webcome.

3. Use my registrar's DNS server. I'm using namecheap at the moment. Here's the screen that comes up:
[url]

Would that work? And create subdomain.domain.tld?

Finally, I think I'd need to select 'user' at the bottom and enter an MX record. Would this be domain.tld?
