User Nobody Using All System Memory Cpanel

Apr 16, 2009

I tracked down another issue that I am having with this same server. I login and look at the system and 100% of the swap is used and 99% of the Ram. I look to see who's using it, and the user name is Nobody. What role does this user play in cpanel? Can I disable the user?

UPDATE: It is actually apache doing it.

Plesk Automation :: Disable Changing System User Name (FTP / SSH) For Customers?

May 26, 2015

Is it possible to disable the option to change the system user (FTP/SSH) for customers. I can disable this for the control panel user but not the system user (FTP/SSH). Is there any option to do this that I didn't see?

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: Webspace System User And Rsync Permissions

Nov 21, 2014

I have just used rsync to backup a dedicated server to a new cloud server. I put the files in a plesk webspace 'Backup' folder for ease of use (gui). In File Manager for that webspace it shows the folder user and group as root, which is obviously correct as rsync maintains users etc?

Thats fine, I just wanted to be able to back them up along with the rest of the server configuration and content.

However, when I run backup it says "For security reasons, backing up is performed on behalf of subscription's system user. This system user has no read access to:" and "So it was not backed up. All other data was backed up successfully. To fix this issue you may grant access read/write to the file or directory for system user "(username)" or "apache"."

I don't know how to give read/write access to the system user? Through file manager there is no option to change permissions.

Access RAM Memory & CPU Usage By User Files

Jan 14, 2009

I don't really now how this can be done, but as far as I can remember when I was in shared hosting, they always complaint about memory usage.... but they always know what specific files were cosing the most load on the server.

So, I remember I have this count.php file that was constantly hited and the complaint and tell me exactly what file it was cosing the heavy load.

This is just an example, but looks like they always knew the specific files that were cosing problems, so what the hell, this can be done!

Now that I have my own server I would like to know these things as well, so I can know what files need to be optimized.

I searched and searched and searched and... OK, you'll get the point, and I just HAVE NOT find any information on this.

Can someone tell me this "secret"? What do you use to get the files that are cosing the most heavy load on a Linux server?

Check Memory And Cpu User By Hosting Account

Mar 2, 2008

In the past WHM gave us the chance to check the hosting accounts daily cpu, memory and mysql usage in server status, but on the new WHM/CPANEL releases we noticed that this values are not so precise as they were.

Anyone know how can be found the average use of cpu/memory/mysql of each hosting account letting the hosting companies understand who uses more resources?

Limiting Cpu/memory Of A Single User/domain In Whm

Jan 21, 2008

i've been researching this but can't seem to find a decent solution.

basically trying to limit the cpu usage of a single domain, or limit accesses per hour if that's possible?

i tried adding an entry in /etc/security/limits.conf which restricts numproc to 2 and then down to 1, but it doens't seem to make any impact on the load. load of the server drops from about 1.5-2 down to 0.02 when this single site is suspended, and i can't have it run wild.

ideally would like a message that says something along the lines of server is too busy... trying again in 5 seconds or something along those lines?

Cpanel VPS - Plenty Of Free Memory, But 'committed' Memory Exceeds VPS RAM

Jun 12, 2009

I have a VPS. And have had an issue both when it was 1Gig and now I recently downgraded it to 768m, because I am moving some sites to a dedicated.

However, the part I am having trouble grasping is that when I look at graphs from Munin, it will typically always show 200-400MB free memory (and free -m and top agrees with munin), but Munin shows 'committed' memory that is above the total Ram on the VPS and once the 'committed' ram exceeds the VPS limit, processes start failing.

So, why is 'committed' memory exceeding the RAM on my VPS, when Munin, free -m and top all show there is free memory available?

Code:
root@server [~]# free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 768 449 318 0 0 0
-/+ buffers/cache: 449 318
Swap: 0 0 0
Here's a graph that munin produces that shows the 'committed' memory exceeding the total memory.

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: For Security Reason Backup Is Performed On Behalf Of Subscription System User

Aug 24, 2014

I thought this problem was fixed in Plesk 11.5 but I'm still getting the following backup warnings in Plesk 12..."For security reason backup is performed on behalf of subscription system user...."

My phpbb forum creates cache files which have apache ownership and Plesk backup manager gives warnings that it cannot backup the files due to ownership errors.

I have searched for days for a solution without success. If I change the permissions to owner instead of apache the forums don't function correctly.

Is this a Plesk bug that is still evident in Plesk 12?

Ticket System And WHM And Cpanel

Jul 14, 2009

I have VPS having whm/cpanel base, i also install RT ticket system, it install successfully, same way i did on 5 other server its ok, but on VPS due to apache different configuration it gives me.

You haven't yet configured your webserver to run RT. You appear to have installed RT's web interface correctly, but haven't yet configured your web server to "run" the RT server which powers the web interface. The next step is to edit your webserver's configuration file to instruct it to use RT's mod_perl, FastCGI or SpeedyCGI handler.

Redirect Domain/user To User.domain ONLY IF Folder 'user' Doesn't Exist

May 7, 2007

I thought I knew enough about my .htaccess stuff to do this, but I can't seem to work it out. What I want to do is if a user visits domain.com/folder, we check to see if the folder exists. If so, show as normal (IE domain.com/support)

If a user visits domain.com/dynamicusername (dynamicusername is not a physical folder), redirect to dynamicusername.domain.com

System To Control Server Load On Cpanel

Jun 29, 2009

a good method to have processes controlled in the resources they use, in a shared cpanel environment?

For example, it appears that the cpanel backup (compressed) made the load skyrocket to beyond 60% cpu and 95% memory usage today, and this server is beefy to begin with.

I want some system to kill processes immediately if they exceed X amount of resources or kill processes that spiral out of control (X amount of processes from same user).

I'd like to be alerted of this action as well.

How can I set this up?

CPanel Eats VPS Memory Or You Just Don't Have Enough

Dec 15, 2008

I was told that cPanel itself eats about 128-256Mb of memory from the VPS, so if I want to have cPanel I need at least 384mb RAM to start few simple sites working.

Is it true? (I definitely need cPanel, abandon it - it's not an option)
What (as I think) require resources I need to work at the VPS:

1. Three php sites (osCommerce, MySQL, not ideal code optimization I believe, 80-180 visitors at the same time for all 3 in total)

2. One php photo gallery (20-50 visitors at the same time)
Those 4 sites generate about 70Gb bandwidth monthly.

3. cPanel.

which amount of RAM is required to get it working fast?
