Apache + Spawn-fcgi

Apr 14, 2008

I`d like to run php per user using spawn-fcgi (I want to user have own pid file for php process). Is it possible to work? I thing that the way is to add something in VirtualHost file for users something like
spawn-fcgi -f /usr/local/php4/bin/php -P /tmp/$user.pid -s /tmp/$user.sock

Is it possible to do?

I`m using DirectAdmin.

Spawn-fcgi Pidfile

Jun 16, 2007

I have php running as fastcgi for nginx and I'm trying to setup monit to monitor the php process and restart it when it crashes. The problem is that I can't seem to figure out which pidfile I should have monit look at.

Here's part of my script that starts the spawn-fcgi process:

#!/bin/bash
#
# chkconfig: 345 22 82
# description: The php-cgi spawnr

## ABSOLUTE path to the spawn-fcgi binary
SPAWNFCGI="/usr/local/bin/spawn-fcgi"

## ABSOLUTE path to the PHP binary
FCGIPROGRAM="/etc/lighttpd/php/bin/php"

FCGIPID="/var/run/php-fcgi.pid"

## TCP port to which to bind on localhost
FCGIPORT="1026"

## number of PHP children to spawn
PHP_FCGI_CHILDREN=8

## maximum number of requests a single PHP process can serve before it is restarted
PHP_FCGI_MAX_REQUESTS=1500

I added the FCGIPID (saw it in an example), but it doesn't seem to do anything. I tried creating a pid file but the pid in it doesn't get updated when I start/stop the script.

Too Many Open Files: Couldn't Spawn Child Process

Oct 25, 2008

"Too many open files: couldn't spawn child process"

"Too many open files: couldn't spawn child process". This is what I see in the logs.

I have a CGI application which I can't run anymore because it is giving me a 500 Internal Server Error.

Would disabling the logging on all domains solve this issue? (thinking that too many log files are opened)

I did: cat /proc/sys/fs/file-max and in return I got: 372235.

Then I did echo 350000 > /proc/sys/fs/file-max*, because I thought I have file system limitation or something like that.

The problem starts even right after I reboot the server.

If I hit lsof a lot of files are shown.

The server load is tiny so nothing actually happens.

Would editing the httpd.conf or my.cnf files help ? Should I post the prefork and MPM settings here?

What else should I do to have my CGI application running again?

Tweak Mod_userdir Security

Jun 17, 2009

mod_userdir Protection:
Apache's mod_userdir allows users to view their sites by entering a tilde(~) and their username as the uri on a specific host. For example http://test.cpanel.net/~fred/ will bring up the user fred's domain. The disadvantage of this feature is that any bandwidth usage used by this site will be put on the domain it is accessed under (in this case test.cpanel.net). mod_userdir protection prevents this from happening. You may however want to disable it on specific virtual hosts (generally shared ssl hosts.)

We have enabled mod_userdir Protection for all our users but some our clients want to view their website via For example [url]

in this section there is mentioned that You may however want to disable it on specific virtual hosts (generally shared ssl hosts.)

but when i select a domain which i want to disable mod_userdir Protection & then ticked marked on Exclude Protection check box then i have restarted apache web server but still i am unable to view selected domain via IP based

Best Configuration For My.cnf To Tweak MySQL

Cpanel PHP Open_basedir Tweak

if i enable PHP open_basedir Tweak in cpanel, it disables all sites and none load, do note that the other tweak called Apache mod_userdir Tweak is also enabled.

Now i am wondering is if they both clash with each other to compete for the security ?

Anyone else noticed this also?

API - FCGI, Regarding Load

May 18, 2008

I've been using Apache for a long time, switched to fcgi, went to check load and I see that some sites are using like 10-15% of cpu (dual quad harpertown) for a 10 seconds or so. Wordpress blog which is using 700 mb of traffic per month for example.

Is this normal?

I wasn't been able to see that in the past so really din't knew that.

Dispatch.fcgi Kept In Cache

May 21, 2007

I have Django (python framework) on a server, and I have a little problem. The application is kept in cache by FastCGI

When you make changes to your application you have to restart it. Touching the file doesn't solve my problem. The only solution I have is renaming the .fcgi file always, and if you use an orifinal file name, it actually works like before, prooving it's kept in cache.

What would you do? A cron job to remove these files maybe?

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: Cache Lost In Fcgi-php-environment

Oct 11, 2014

Tested with my own comilations as well as the Panda-packages:
- zend opcache configured in php 5.5 and 5.6
- php version assigned to test domains

php-info:
- cache active and running

real-life:
- site loads "normally" on initial load
- cache kicks in on reload - perfect
- 15 seconds later: cache is empty

bottom line: when then php-cgi process ends, the cache is killed too.

Why does it happened? How do I keep the cache persistent? Is it due to cgi/fcgi and fpm would solve it?

How Do I Know The Amount Of Ram Allocated To Me

Jul 8, 2009

How do i know the amount of ram allocated to me?

How will i know if my account is allocated with the ram i bought.

How will i know if my host is over selling?

My sites are going down frequently, I have to restart apache to get them back.I checked the cpu and memory usage logs on whm, and they are well with in limits.

But my hosting support fellow is saying other wise.

Quote:

Our logs indicate that from time to time your VPS is going above the RAM Guarantee, this puts your services in danger of going offline until the RAM usage is back under the guarantee. If you continue to see these problems, we recommend either reducing the RAM usage by disabling any unused services, purchasing a guaranteed RAM upgrade, or upgrading to the next plan, to help alleviate the problem.

VPS With A Large Amount Of RAM

May 22, 2007

I've been with zone.net for a couple months now, and I have a guaranteed 512MB of memory, which I seem to constantly be hitting, which seems to result in processes being killed and http access vanishing. Growing quite annoying.

I'm looking into moving onto a new provider that can provide more guaranteed RAM for about the same price.

Space isn't a huge deal, I'd do fine with a meager 5GB. Bandwidth I need at least 200GB, but wouldn't mind more.

I'd like to stay managed if possible, as I'm not as well versed in server workings as I should be. Also am in need of cPanel, which I know is a spendy sucker.

My budget is something around $70 a month, and I don't really want to go much higher than that. Still a poor college boy :/

Can anyone suggest such a provider? I've browsed around a lot of the VPS hosts but can't seem to find one that has as much RAM as I need for a decent price. All the ones that seem to have 512MB+ are pretty expensive, and offer a lot more other stuff (space/bandwidth) than I need.

As a final note, the line speed isn't that big of a deal. I'm currently on a 3mbit and am surviving, but going back to a higher speed line would be great

Large Amount Of INSERTs Into DB

Jun 6, 2007

I started tracking and collecting information about every page load on my site, which made the DB grow very fast. In 24 hours I had over 1.4 million INSERTs, so the DB will grow by over 170MB/day. The inserts so far didnt affect the performance of the server (dual clovertown, 4gb ram, SCSI HD), but at this rate the DB will grow by over 5GB per month. Is it a good idea to let the DB grow to those sizes? Would it affect performance if a table had several 10s of millions of rows? Public doesnt run any SELECT/UPDATE queries on that table, only admin does (me).

Backup Question: How To Use The Least Amount Of Cpu

Jun 14, 2007

I have been using this command:

Code:
tar -cpvf backup-`date '+%d-%B-%Y'`.tar --exclude=/var/www/html/tempjunk /var/www/html
To make some backups. It works fine, but here's the problem: it really takes a toll on server load. Server load seems to go up at by around +3 or more. I'm wondering if there is a way to use less CPU usage on that command, or is there another command that uses less usage. I'm not concerned if it backs up slower by starving the amount of CPU usage it has, so if there's a way to do this any method?

VPS With A Nice Amount Of Quality Bandwidth In US

Sep 29, 2008

I'm currently hosting my website on core2duo / 2GB RAM dedicated server. Thing is, programmer did a VERY good job optimizing scripts and this server is way too much than I need. The average server load is usually 0.00 - 0.20. I'm thinking of switching to either a cheaper dedicated server or VPS.

We use 300GB-1TB of bandwidth per month though. 90% of our traffic is from US. Do you know any good VPS solution for this?

Vbulletin... High Amount Of Queries

I got a dedicated server which hosted 45 sites, one of those sites contains a vbulletin forum application since january 2007 , but from two weeks i found that there is a high amount of Queries from the this database which leads the server load to be always in RED and exceeds 200 or 300! and the memory is totally consumed!

i tried alot to solve this problem as :
- reinstall the vb.
- change the vb path to another ( considering it as attack)
- installing BFD , APF , ( considering it as attack )
- upgrading to apache 2.2.6 , PHP 5.2.5 , MySQL 5.0.24 ( considering it as a bug)

this is the sample of queries.
