Oct 27, 2007
I remembered there used to be a site, where you can key in your email address and have all varieties of Eicar send to you for the testing of your email anti virus. Can't remember whats the url. Anyone?

I'm running Windows Server 2003 and I use Symantec End Point Protection v11. I'm not satisfied with it nor am I confident it is the best virus protection software.
What do you suggest for the best protection of a Windows 2003 server?

Is antivirus necessary in Windows Server with IIS6? I am hosting several web pages and web applications(ASP.NET) on two servers for three years, never have any problem with viruses.
What antivirus would you suggest to use? I have tried AVG and NOD and they are very massive and slow down web applications.

I have a dedicated windows 2003 server that acts as an smtp relay (legit purposes, not open).
There are large amounts of mail relayed through the server and I would like to install some 3rd party software that can scan the messages/attachments for viruses.
Ideally, if one exists it strips it from the message and notifies the recipient and/or sender of the problem.
any ideas on where to start?

Is there a site which will enable me to enter url of my website and it will simulate visitors from multiple locations. It needs to open the page completely, and run for example 10 minutes. Two things I found are host-tracker, but it just gets headers from multiple locations, and does it only once. Another thing is Paessler software which can test exactly what I want (number of visitors for some period of time with full page download) but it must be run from one (my) PC, so I can not test bandwidth from multiple locations. I need combination of these two, anyone knows for something like that on the net?

Currently working on securing my server and i think I'm doing quite well until I asked myself the question, have I done it right? Is there anyway to actually test how secure my server actually is? I'd rather not just wait and see if someone can hack me to bring to light what I did wrong...I was also thinking of hiring someone to secure my server but then how do I know that they've done anything different to me?
Are there any scripts or programs I can run to test server security?

I'm running a Fedora box and am getting these kinds of messages in /var/log/messages:
Oct 26 13:41:20 tx kernel: Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 0000000c
I have a feeling this is a memory error and am looking for a way to confirm this.
I found a package called memtest86+ (via yum) but have never used it. Have any of you used this program in the past and if so what are the steps? Does the server have to be shut down? Are there other programs out there to accomplish what I am trying to do?

id like to set up apache on a spare pc i have lying around, for local dev. id like to stick it in the back of a closet (no screen, kb or mouse) but im wondering how i can best access it from my main computers. is there some kind of decent and preferably free remote desktop application that can be used for this?
i know i can access the xampp installation via the ip address, but inevitably ill also have to access whatever OS i decide to install on it (xp or ubuntu)

I currently have a domain on Server 1 (Linux, Apache, Ubuntu, Matrix control panel).
This server does not have any spam filter, so I have moved all the email accounts to Server 2 (Linux, Apache, Fedora Core, Plesk) which does have a brilliant spam filter; and have changed the DNS record for mail.domain.com to the IP address for Server 2.
Emails are being successfully received on Server 2.
On Server 1, when an email is sent through SMTP to an address at that domain, it does not send it to Server 2, it gets delivered to the hosting account for the domain on Server 1. So what I am guessing is happening is that Server 1 detects the domain has an account on the server, and instead of looking up the DNS info for that domain, just assumes it is on Server 1.
What I need to do, is force Server 1 to send email for that domain to Server 2. Is this possible, and if so, how can it be achieved? If more info about the server is required for a solution please let me know and I'll provide what I can.

I'm rather new to Windows dedicated servers and would like to know which Anti Virus to use for a Windows dedicated server?
What other security measures do I need to take on the windows server as well?
Been hosting with Linux servers for years, one would almost expect that a security on a Windows server is "second nature", but I have some doubts about the security of these servers. We'll be using Windows 2003 standard & Windows 2003 Web edition.

Can anyone recommend an affordable antivirus hardware appliance that can be put in-line between a physical machine acting as a mail server and the switch? I need it only to filter on ONE machine so it would not have to be extremely fast. Spam filtering would be a plus as well. Any recommendations? I am looking for something plug and play.
