Simultaneous Connections Wait

Jun 16, 2007

I have Apache2 installed on my dedicated server. I would like to install a mod / configure my Apache Server in order to limit simultaneous connections / IP.

The thing that I want is that for example if I want a maximum of 2 simultaneous connections / IP, when that IP reaches the LIMIT, I would like to delay its next request, and NOT display him a 503 error like most mods DO.

PHP Session Locks - High Io Wait

For the past couple of days, I've noticed that there is alot of apache processes running in the "D" state and that my IO wait is up to %80. I straced one of the processes and the result is its locking on a php session:

LeaseWeb - Wait Two Weeks For Server Setup

Apr 1, 2009

I've ordered server from LeaseWeb two weeks ago and still wait for the server setup. Its looks to slow for me - we are used to wait only a few hours for servers setup in datacanters in the US.

I'm afraid that such slow response will be also in response and level of the support. Do you think I should cancel this service and look for other provider in Europe? If yes please suggest such provider.

I've paid in advance by paypal for 3 month(~ 500 EURO). Do you think I will be able to cancel that payment?

Server Load :: Of Simultaneous Processes Should Not Exceed 5

Is each part - for example, graphics and includes - of an individual webpage a 'process'?

Downtime, Switch Shared Hosts Or Wait It Out

Sep 2, 2008

I'm with one of the big shared hosts. Support is patchy at best, which isn't a problem until you require help at which point it's agonising as you have to wait an age to get an unsatisfactory response.

At the moment the server I'm on is suffering from consistent outages (it's been up and down over the last few days). Support has been hard to get hold of at times (right now my site is completely unacceptable for me and there's no-one tending the live support chat - which is the only chance of getting a prompt response).

My question is should I be actively looking to improve my situation (it's amazingly frustrating to spend the best part of a day doing small updates, which because of instability, take hours instead of minutes) or should I just wait until it blows over (to be fair server issues tend to be fairly infrequent, but they do flair up every so often). I can't really afford to pay that much more than I am (say $20-$50 a month max) so am I stuck with shared hosting or is there anyway to pay a little more (my current package costs around $10 a month) to get better support and stability?

After a initial look around would something like MediaTemples GS or the low end MediaTemples dedicated virtual service be suitable? The pages do have moderate database use (a few forums and galleries) and use around 50GB a month bandwidth (which would climb slowly in future months)?

Hardware Requirements For 40-50 Simultaneous Video Streams

Jul 10, 2008

I have done some searching here but wasn't able to find what I was looking for, so am making a new post.

I have a client who needs an online training web application. I have done plenty of sites in the past, but none with streaming video so am really unsure what type of hardware this requires. At peak the client expects 50 users watching streaming video at the same time (so lets double it to 100 to be sure). What type of server hardware requirements am I looking at to deliver that content at a good speed with little to no hick ups? Also, is a 100Mbps link good enough?

Simultaneous Download Speeds On Virtual Private Server (VPS)

Oct 7, 2007

I just got a VPSlink account about a month ago and for all testing purposes, it has been great so far [my first VPS]. But I haven't transferred my main site to it yet mainly due to one specific question about download speeds. Quickly, here's what I've found about their network...

VPSLink is owned by Spry, so from all I can tell, they're using the same network speeds. Which are:
Unmetered: 1.5 megabits per sec in total traffic.
Metered: Spry's site says "throughput of up to 8Mbps"

Ok, so here's what I'm trying to find out:
I'm running a small software business with some downloads (all legal of course - they're mine ) and would like to know what the real-world download speeds that users would normally see when downloading my files. Here are the knowns:

a) Let's assume for this question that all of the user computer's are on very quick connections, so their speed wouldn't be an issue.

b) An example file would be say, 20 MB.

I'm most looking to see how speeds would be (in Kbps) if say, 20 people are downloading a 20 MB file at the same time (again, with their connections being extremely fast; fast enough for the sake of this example to not be a factor - so the max speed would only depend on my VPSlink server's connection).

I don't know of a good way to really test this since I only have access to 1 physical connection. I did try a test with a friend. Here's what happened:

I normally get about 500-600kbps sustained on my cable modem, as does my friend. When downloading a test file on my server I was able to get about that when downloading all alone. But, when my friend and I downloaded it at the same time, both of us got around 350kbps -- so the total speed about dropped in half. Again since my site is for software downloads, and when releasing an update to one of our products, sometimes I'm guessing 20+ users download simultaneously for a couple days.

This currently seems to work ok on Dreamhost, but for many other reasons, we're needing a VPS. But would this vastly decrease our file transfer download speeds to users? If users got something horrible like 2kbps, that would most certainly loose a lot of business for us since they'd just get frustrated and cancel for the most part.

Does anyone know of a rough estimate on how to figure this out, or even better, are there any VPSLink customers out there that have experience with this?

Plesk 11.x / Linux :: High CPU Wait I/O And Load Average During Backup

May 20, 2014

PRODUCT, VERSION, OPERATING SYSTEM, ARCHITECTURE
Parallels Plesk Panel 11.5.30 MU #44 CentOS 6.5 (Final) 64bit

2 of our our servers are suddenly experiencing high Wait I/O Times, and high Load Averages during the backup process. During this period the Plesk grinds to a halt, sometimes crashing out completely (although SSh is still possible. We have been in talks with our server suppliers (assuming this would be node related) however they have done a lot of testing etc. and categorically state the node is fine , with no other users affecting it.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE : We backup the server using the scheduled backup service and Wait I/O immediately goes up.

ACTUAL RESULT: Plesk downtime / Website downtime

EXPECTED RESULT: No downtime, successful back up

Some other info :
All other processes (MYSQL, apache, Nginx etc) are all running between 1 - 10%

Partition "/usr" utilization 4.2% used (1.81 GB of 43.3 GB) (?)
Partition "/var" utilization 50.6% used (61.8 GB of 122 GB) (?)

We are struggling to identify what has changed on the server that would cause this sudden change.

Simultaneous FTP User- Cpanel/WHM/Pure-FTP, Dual Xeon 2.4, 1gRAM, Dedicated

Dec 12, 2008

Simultaneous FTP User Question - Cpanel/WHM/Pure-FTP, Dual Xeon 2.4, 1gRAM, Dedicated

Does the following dedicated server spec throw any flags for you when considering our intended future use?

DEDICATED SERVER SPEC
Dual Xeon 2.40 ghz.
1 gig RAM
INTENDED FUTURE USE

- We currently host 300 low volume websites on the server.

- We only use 40 gigs of data bandwidth per month. (1000 allotted)

- We developed a new software product that allows auto-updates 300kb of data each day.

- We expect up to 500 people to use this software and need to access our FTP daily, at different times of the day (random).

- We plan to embed the FTP information into the software.

The FTP access will be transparent to the user.

Does our dedicated server sound like it could handle this? My guess is yes.

Too Many Connections

I tried to update a plugin at my blog its a wordpress blog, as soon as the update was started that site on the server stopped working, (later on i closed the upgradation window), after few minutes website start working automatically, Now in my opinion I think that update process is still running in background thats why connections are creating continuously to that website IP.

[root@server ~]# netstat -alpn | grep :80 | awk '{print $4}' | cut -d: -f1 |sort |uniq -c

its even touching 1500, I tried to contact my server support but unfortunately they can investigate the issue, instead they told me to check with the following command.

netstat -plan |grep :80 | awk '{print $5}' | cut -d: -f1 | sort | uniq -c

which is not an answer to my question. Can anybody please tell me why those connections are making to that website's IP? I don't think its a Ddos attack, because it was just started when i updated the plugin.

SSH Connections Limited To 2

May 2, 2008

I signed up for a hosted account with gator and I don't understand something. They tell me it's a policy change for security reasons but the simultaneous SSH connections has been limited to 2. That's just nuts. Is there a real reason why someone would limit this? i need two for editors, one for shell and one for mysql. Minimum of 4. What security concern could cause them to pick 2 as the number?

I just don't get it.

Here's what they said to me.

info: Please wait for a HostGator operator to respond.

Channel Sanderson: Hi. We're working on our website and have run into a small snag. It seems we can only have two open SSH connections at a time this week. We were able to open more a couple weeks ago. Is this something that you can change?

Kella J.: Ok, the issue is.. You are only alllowed 2, no matter what..
Channel Sanderson: I believe we are not understanding each other. We're not trying to connect 10 times in a minute. We just need more connections. 2 is insufficient. We need a minimum of 4 simultaneous connections to our server.

Kella J.: I am sorry, I checked with my admin.. he said there is only a limit of 2, period..

Channel Sanderson: This is an unnecessary limitation in my view and badly limits my ability to do what I need to do.

How Many Connections Apache Can Go Up To

Also If it was able to go even higher you would eventually run into memory issues on the server that would cause the server to crash."

Can anyone tells me if "400 requests currently being processed, 0 idle workers " is a problem or could it be the cause of the slowness. I imagin if more people request connection, and apache can't deal with that much, it has to let those request wait in the queue, therefore caused slowness or time-out.

The seem server could deal with 8000 people online before, no any problem at all and speed was quite fast. I don't know what i should do now.

Jun 20, 2008

I've had a problem a couple of times where there is a bad ftp connection to a host. A trace reveals that there is a node timing out. What is a good way to work around this. Web based ftp client or other solution?
