Sherweb Exchange Hosting - Suprisingly Great
Sep 6, 2007
I have been recently in the marketplace for an exchange e-mail hosting provider.
I'll tell you straight out that I wanted something quite cheap(less than $10/m), a big amount of storage(my outlook inbox is over 500MB ), exchange server 2007 and spam/virus protection.
I know, I know, you must be thinking to yourself - your expecting way too much for such a budget - yeah I guess I'm cheap that way .
On that note, you might not be surprised that I had quite a hard time finding an a exchange hosting provider that met my needs. Yes, their was 1and1 exchange hosting but I have already went through hell with them and the thought of handing over to them my CC info again just didint sit great.
I went through all the google adsense ads and searched extensively only to find providers (intermedia, appriver etc.) who were way above my budget. So I thought fine I'll shell out $30 a month but I NEED alot of storage. Thats where the huge shortfall was as all of these providers gave out of the box a maximum of 1GB of storage, to upgrade(many from 500MB) would have been another $20 or so a month so it didint seem to promising.
My lucky day
On like the 5th or so page on google I found sherweb.com.
Sure enough they had exactly what I wanted. Their website seemed professional (yes I look to see how nice it looks ) and their live chat help was great. Down to the specifics: They offered a whopping 3GB of exchange 2007 space for only $8.95 a month which is unprecedented in the industry. To top it all off they had an excellent barracuda spam/virus protection in place with its own control panel to tweak sensitivity settings and see e-mails that it trapped. It's just such a pleasure to use. In addition, they have all the additional frills, web access, a nice admin panel, sharepoint, SAN backups etc.
(As a side point they did not have any reviews on WHT but just took a leap of faith *gasp*)
I have been with them for about a month and I know its not that long and I will be back to update in a few months but just wanted to let ya'll know what kind of wonderful experience it has been.
From the instantaneous setup to their within minutes response times support I really have been quite satisfied.

Just wanted to state that Pronethosting.net has done a great job hosting my daughter's Web site and our municipal site: marcellusny.com.
Their service is very dependable and affordable!

I switch from Hostway about a month ago.
ThisWebHost has a price plan suitable for any hosting need (I saved over 50% from what I was paying previously, because the other pricing plan was richer than what I needed).
ThisWebHost only charges $1 per month for a dedicated IP address and has superior customer service (very timeline response once you open a ticket) and is also accessible on Twitter. Added bonus is that their CS is located in the US and they speak English.
Another huge perk was that they transferred my site for free.
So far up time has been 100%.

I found out about downtownhost on here and signed up and am currently using them for one of my websites which is working out great. But I'm looking for another one as well (I don't like to host all my sites with one company).
I looked at iweb but there own site was loading slowly for me so that was discouraging.
Chatted with hostmysite and they made me wait forever and couldn't answer simple questions so that was scary. I currently have 2 sites already with hostgator which has worked out well, but like I said don't want to put all my sites on one host. Looking to get my sites off of dreamhost which I recently (last 6 months) have been having website loading time problems. My sites load SLOW So my once "dream" provider has turned into a nightmare. I also host with lunarpages (oy vey) my site goes down weekly and they don't have phone support on weekends.

I would like to suggest visualvps to anyone looking for a vps because they are low priced with what they offer to you, they have alot of different linux server os' that you can choose from when you sign up. They offer cpanel for only $12 extra a month which if pretty good. They have very fast support, when I submitted a support ticket they replied very fast (in like 5-10 min)! I am very impressed with them and im sure anyone browsing this forum would be.
Personally I would give them 5 / 5 stars because they have earned it!

I've seen various companies offering Microsoft Exchange hosting but I'm not sure if this is what I need to go with or not. Let me explain what I'm wanting to do and maybe someone can give me a yay or nay on it. I have a desktop and a laptop running Outlook that I would like to be able to sync together with a web-based server. I also have a Treo 750 cell phone that I want to have my calendar and tasks synced as well with the web-based server.
For example: I add an appointment on my desktop computer and it syncs with the web server. When the web server gets it, it syncs to my cell phone via ActiveSync. Right now I'm using the free version of Mail2Web which doesn't support Outlook syncing. (I have to manually enter the data on the website interface and then it will sync via Activesync to my phone.) They do have a paid version starting at $11.95/mo that will supposedly do what I'm wanting to do with Outlook, but I'm not sure if this is overkill for what I need or not. Again I don't really need to sync email, just my calendar and tasks.
So do I need a full blown exchange hosting provider or is there some software (other than Exchange) that I can install on my Windows VPS that will do what I'm looking to do?

I'm currently with 1and1 - obviously they suck - no need to belabor that here. I've been resisting a hosting switch, but the outages are more and more frequent, and my website is my livlihood. Need recommendations for web/MySql hosting and also hosting for a single Exchange account. Does not have to be the same company. Price is not a huge issue - I'm willing to pay for quality. Requirements are basic; about 3-5 GB of file storage, SQL 4 and 5, linux server. Shared server is fine. Any recommendations? Don't really trust the "review" sites.
Some kind of moving assistance/support would be GREAT. I've managed to muddle through and set all this stuff up over the years, but am not at all confident of my ability to move it all without screwing up. Includes 3 active databases, several sites, SSL cert (currently purchased through 1&1 but it looks like they farmed it out to geotrust), and exchange mailbox.

Can anyone recommend a host that specializes in reliable Microsoft Exchange e-mail hosting that includes the web client?
Or optionally, a business that specalizes in reliable e-mail hosting along with collaborative web features.
Or finally, can anyone recommend a collaboration web software that could be installed on a UNIX/Linux server that already offers IMAP?
Didn't really see a forum that this question would fit in, so figured I'd put it in the forum with the experts.

to provide MS-Exchange hosted accounts. (The ones with the free copy of MS-Exchange.)
We feel we should focus on our core business and are looking for a good company to resell from. We will have value-added services. We need a rock-solid company who provides an excellent SLA.
Who's in the game and who can provide a good wholesale price?

I have two questions that hopefully someone will be able to help me out with. The first, is my partner and I want to provide server redundancy for our clients. Our set-up is as follows: two identical servers with multiple virtual machines (about 4) on each. One for SQL, one for IIS, etc. We also have a ServerIron XL to connect the two together and provide replication and load balancing. So the question is, has anyone here used a ServerIron XL and how easy is it to use/how effective is it? The second question is, we would like to provide our clients with hosted Exchange. I have set up and maintained a few Exchange 2007 servers, but only for a single company with a single domain. What would be the best way to go about providing a hosted Exchange solution?

Anyone know of a hosted exchange provider that also provides shared web hosting?
The shared hosting plan can be small - its for a low traffic site.

We've been frantically looking to move from this company called Media Temple for our staging server / email needs. Our application / corporate servers are hosted with The Planet.
Any one have any suggestions for a shared hosting provider between the regular $10-$20 / month range, having the following things:
Windows with .NET 2.0/3.5 and AJAX installed
At least 5GB storage
IMAP email with IDLE support or Exchange email (will pay more)
Ability to host at least 10 domains
Minimalist Control panel and Webmail preferred

I'm currently with Steadfast Networks for my VPS (Linux). We are now in need of shared MS Exchange Hosting plan. Although I found some companies offering Exchange Hosting, they do not offer VPS's. Does anyone knows of any reliable company offering both?
I want someone (well maybe except Rackspace) who is reliable, has good feedback and provides good uptime and customer service.

I have built a server so I can co-locate it to be used for shared hosting. The specification is high, compared to most dedicated server offerings, so I was considering splitting it up into different virtual machines for different purposes. The specification is: Intel Xeon 3230 (4x 2.66ghz), 8GB DDR ECC RAM, Seagate Cheetah SAS 15,000rpm (4x 147GB), Adaptec RAID 5405 (RAID 6 Array with Battery Backup), Dual on-board NIC, etc.
The original plan was to use this machine as just one linux server, but I am concerned most of its potential will not be exploited. So I am exploring the possibility of setting it up as 2 Virtual Machines, installing Linux on one and Windows on the other. This way I can offer hosting for ASP and ASP.NET, and possibly MS SQL and/or Exchange depending on costs for their licences.
What Microsoft licences are suitable for servers used for shared hosting? From what I can gather there are several ways of being licenced, but I can't figure out which is the most cost effective. It seems you buy the server OS edition that supports your requirements, then pay another licence per user (CAL?) - I haven't got a clue how many users I will need to have though. Then if you want to use MS SQL, DNS or Exchange you need the correct edition - and buy licences for these too.
Does anyone know roughly what I should be looking to pay for what? I would ideally like to have MS SQL, DNS and Exchange - but am aware that the licence could be so expensive that it wouldn't be worth doing.

Because i have couple site hosted by both hosting company (DTH=downtownhost and TCH=totalchoicehosting) and have positive experience with them i needed to make decision who will be hoster for my new project.
The problem was by both company and by 99% others that traceroute command is not enabled by default and it is essential for my new project.
After exchanging a couple emails with both companies DTH was winner again because DTH allow on shared hosting traceroute command (in situation that you need it).
Answer from TCH was that only on VPS (semi-dedicated) is traceroute command possible and not on shared envirovment.
I must again praise DTH for the way how they handle with their customers and that they are ready to do everything for their customers. Not wonder that they are one of the greatest hosting company.

I'll keep it short and sweet. I signed up for medialayer on December 23, 2007. Its been more than 6 months and there has been not one unscheduled downtime, the support is phenomenal on the rare occasion I need to use it and its the fastest host I've ever used, dedicated or shared. My sites have been on the front page of Digg, Osnews, Stumbleupon and I've yet to see my hosting so much as shudder. Unbelievably powerful servers. They are accommodating, friendly and brilliant.
No, they don't have terabytes of bandwidth and it doesn't cost $1 per month; but it doesn't get much better than this otherwise.
Hosted sites ticketed to mod team. Keep up the great work, Medialayer.

After getting completely fed up with bluehost (my site was so slow!), I recently switched to mddhosting. I had considered other hosts, but luckily, I found this forum before switching -- and I discovered mddhosting here!
I'd highly recommend mddhosting. They took the time to talk to me and answer all my questions before I switched (and I asked a lot of questions!). After I took the plunge, they basically did all the work for me migrating my website. I was shocked! There was one small glitch in the migration as some software wasn't installed on their server that I needed, but they cleared this up in less than an hour after I submitted my support ticket. Since then, its been smooth sailing. My site is really fast -- I've never had to wait for a page to load. I host some videos, so I was a little worried about these, but they are just as fast as the rest of my content. The only other time I've needed support was when I changed SSL certificates, and again, they pretty much handled everything for me.
Great service! I'd highly recommend them.

I've been hosted on Hawkhost since last year (exactly as it will be expiring on October) and they have been great. I don't regularly check my own website but everytime I do, it's up and running. They were so good I never even had to contact them (only in the beginning because of site transfer). I even forgot what I was hosted on because the whole year just went by so smoothly.

I'm been with HostGator for about 2 years now and I love their service! Its really easy to get in contact with HostGator staff either by Phone, Live Chat, or Ticket they always resolve whatever issue i'm having in a timely manner. I also like calling HostGator and not talking with someone in India who has no knowledge of what I'm trying to get help with and doesn't even know much about that company, I get that enough when I call Dell lol. Anyways, I just wanted to let everyone know that if you are looking for Shared, Reseller, or Dedicated web hosting then choose HostGator.com .

I found vps media through WHT about a month ago, I saw they allowed several gaming servers on their vpses, and it was interesting to give a CS 1.6 and CS Source a try on a vps.
I signed up using a 20% off special, which is pretty cheap, compared to other xen providers.
I've been really happy with their service, as they are very easy to communicate with, and I love their notifications whenever a scheduled maintenance is due.
Their community is still small, but they're growing little by little, I saw a big spike of people registered in their forums right after a new WHT offer post. Their blog is current, well written and specially good content, mostly just news about their service, but always interesting in reading them.

So earlier this month I decided to buy hosting from Hostamina.com - I called them on their toll free number and they seemed like they would be very helpful and they said they were willing to help me from the ground up because I'm kind of new to websites.
It kills me to say this (because everyone says it's so easy), but I barely even know HTML. Anyway, I signed up with them and didn't even know where to begin. They showed me where I could choose from thousands of free website templates, and then they even helped me customize it! They explained to me what was wrong with my HTML code and how to fix it, and even fixed some of it themselves!
So, after reading so many hosting horror stories all over the internet this made me feel kind of lucky that I picked a good one for my first host.
Also, my pages always seem to load really fast - I think this has something to do with them not overselling like a lot of the supposedly unlimited space/bandwidth companies, but I'm not quite sure.

I need to remind you before you read any of this, I have only been with them (racksrv.com) for half of a month, but within that half of month, I have tested them (racksrv.com) in many, many ways.
I couldn't see many reviews of them (racksrv.com), so thought I would give one. I will keep updating this review as time pass's.
Alright, where to start. Some time ago, I came to them in need of a dedicated server. I would like to first point out their support / sales. To be honest, test them. Send a ticket in, and see how long it takes them to reply. Even on weekends, go for it.
My point is, somehow, they seem to answer all of my tickets, whether they be sales or support, super fast. I literally have not seen them reply later than around 30 minutes, ever. Most times, it was way, way under that.
They must have it synced with their PDA's or something. Well, either way its amazing. I ask questions, regarding anything, and they always come up with an answer for me.
Now onto when my services was setup. I was sort of a special customer. I needed a special deal, something they did not really have listed on their site. I contacted them on the weekend, and got reply's to all my questions.
They told me what they could do for me, when they could set it up, and everything was done correctly. They setup the server when they were supposed to, they installed the right operating system, and on top of that they updated the server for me (only a simple "yum update", but still, never saw that from any host).
Onto the network. It is quite amazing. From North America, the pings are still low. There are no slow downs, and the port you get is dedicated. Yes, dedicated. I know that as a fact, as I have tested it at many different times of the day, and getting 100mbit full was possible every time.
They are a bit expensive yes, but to be honest, its worth it. All in all, so far, they are great.
I know you are IMMEDIATELY thinking, "bah, it's only been half a month, how can you review over that short of a period?!". Simply because I have been with over 30 providers over the years. And I have seen nothing as good as this.
Like I previously said, I will post another review later on or update this one. That is about it.

I'm coming upto the end of my third month with Sentris.com
Their prices are good, support has had good response times and resolution on problems I have had. They seem to sort out nearly anything despite only being on basic management.
I haven't had any downtime, on a good network and machine. When I first ordered my server they didn't have the said processor in stock, said they would get it the next day or that I could upgrade to a better processor; which I did and my server was up within a few hours .
I've seen a few negative reviews about Sentris from the past but not many new positive reviews so I though I'd right one for them.
