SLOW Connection: 2 Webservers Using A Single Database Server

Jul 24, 2007

I am developing an application on a load balanced network.

It is configured as follows:

Webserver1, Webserver 2 (Fedora 5 - Linux, Apache, Zend Opt, PHP)

and a DataBase Server (MySQL)

When the webserver attempt to use the Database server the connections and page output are REALLY slow!

The database server is within the webservers local intranet - so I thought it would be a lot faster.

Here is a quick test: : :

Server A Little Slow, Site Or My Connection?

Mar 1, 2008

I rented a server from VD a month ago and hosted some of my websites. But I'm constantly noticing that my websites are loading very slow. How can I check if other users are experiencing the same problem, or if the problem lies with my Internet connection?

Slow Connection

Jul 21, 2007

I use Charter as my ISP. Normally my connection speeds are VERY fast to the majority of the web. However, my own website has become like molasses in January (it wasn't always this way, or I would have not chosen my host), as can the entire hosting service. For the sake of discussion, I use two networked PC's, one is Win2K and the other is XP. Both are using the latest free version of ZoneAlarm, NO virus checker. I have a Linksys router. Asking for tech support with Charter is equivalent to wanting to discuss the methods for rebooting your PC with someone who didn't grow up speaking English. I've tried, it's useless.

(Warning: my site is about nude art photography, so don't look if you don't want to see that. The site is pencilartist.com, and I am hosted with Lunar Pages.)

I've run tracert several times, and I always come up with a timeout on the first hop.

I've asked a friend to view both my site and Lunar Pages from his Charter account (lives 5 miles from me) and he says both come up in nanoseconds. I've tried various online speed checkers, and they all give blazing results.

Here's the latest tracert:

Slow Internet Connection To Our Website

Apr 20, 2008

For about the last two weeks I've had issues connecting with the website that I help run www.learnoutloud.com from my home connection which is Time Warner Cable Internet connection in Los Angeles. I'm on a Dell laptop Inspiron 6000 running Windows XP. I'm always able to connect to the site but what's happening is the page will get hung up on loading a single image usually and then it will take about a minute just to load that last image. And sometimes the page won't load at all, but all it takes usually is hitting the refresh button and the page loads instantly. I was hoping this issue would just go away, but it's been persistent after numerous restarts of our cable modem and switching from wireless to plugged in and so forth. And it's really only happening for our site and no others, which is just puzzling.

At our office on our DSL connection our site loads fine and we haven't had any customer complaints about the site loading slow like this. Our traffic numbers have stayed steady so I don't think it's a global problem connecting with our site. At home I conduct a trace route and it looks good:

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: FTP Connection Slow And Fails

Jul 1, 2014

OS CentOS 6.5 (Final)
Plesk version 12.0.18 Update #6, last updated at July 2, 2014 11:13 AM

The system is up-to-date; last checked at June 27, 2014 04:43 AM

All current websites on the server seem to work fine any new subscriptions we cannot get working at all.

We can connect via FTP to new sites SOMETIMES - just cant get directory listing. When we can connect and get into a directory it slows down.

In Active mode:
Command:MLSD
Response:425 Unable to build data connection: Connection refused
Error:Failed to retrieve directory listing
Install Wordpress via the Parallels panel it loads and says it is all there, just can't log or display any pages. The default Parallels page is displayed.

Upload a html page via the File Manager in Parallels and it displays the default Parallels page.

Unpack the Wordpress tar file via File Manager and it displays the default Parallels page.

The Wordpress feature in Parallels says it is working fine, can't display any page, can't log in as it returns a 404 page or the default Parallels page.

Create a site in Presence builder and Parallels says there is a site. The default Parallels page is displayed when opening the site.

Go to DOMAINS and there is 0mb in space used and there are files listed in the File Manager - none of which can be displayed.

Apache :: Gateway Setup - Point To Different Webservers Depending On Domain Name

Jul 17, 2014

I am looking for setup a gateway (reverse proxy I guess?), specifically how to configure Apache to point to different webservers depending on domain name.

I currently have a single webserver running multiple virtual domains all accessible via a single external IP address.

I would like to break this into 2 servers each running multiple virtual domains accessible via gateway with a singe external IP address.

As an example, a single internet IP address points to port 80 on the gateway machine. The gateway machine will determine if its example1.com, example2.com, example3.com or example4.com. If its example1.com or example2.com it will direct internally to webserver1 and if its example3.com or example4.com it will direct internally to webserver2.

Webserver1 and webserver2 each host different websites via virtual hosts.

Is this possible and if so, what is the correct configuration of the gateway machine. I currently have installed apache2 with mod_proxy enabled, but I am struggling with configuring it properly.

Installing Joomla And A Forum On One Database... Will That Run Slow

Dec 9, 2007

Usually I install every single PHP application on a new database. But I was thinking of installing a Joomla website and a SMF forum on one database with different table suffixes. Whether I install them in the same database or a different database, they will still be on the same host.

So does it make any difference to put them in different databases or should I just put them in one database?

The site/forum is for a little WoW guild website and it might get maybe 30ish visitors a day.

Error Establishing A Database Connection

Mar 9, 2007

Why does this happen? How should I fix it? Can I just restart the sql service? How to do so?

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host's database server is down.

* Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
* Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
* Are you sure that the database server is running?

If you're unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host.

Slow Page Response With Database Driven Site

Jan 24, 2007

I have built a database driven site with PHP & MySQL. Pages download quicker on some connections than other (obviously), however this is not due to connection speed. The web host server seems to respond very slowly to my boss's network (which is on a proxy server). Could it be that this problem is related to the web host? i.e. could it be that the web host is unequipped to deal quickly with this type of network?

On my home connection (2Mbps), pages often download instantly, however occaisionally I have to wait 10-20 seconds to receive the page from the host.

Finally, could you recommend an excellent web host to use with our site? My boss wants to offer a professional service where server response is quick. We are based in the UK.

SSL For Any Domain Hosted On Single Server

Apr 22, 2009

is there any sort of ssl certificate that will 'secure' any domain, hosted on a single server?

For example, I have the following domains and subdomains:

google.com
test.google.com
mywebsite.com
hello.example.com

All will be hosted on the same server (same IP) and I want all to be secured, through a SIGNED certificate, not a self signed. I assumed that wildcard ssl would be fine for this, but I just took a look and it's only for subdomains: example.example.com hello.example.com.

Is there any way of having every subdomain and domain secured, using ssl, through one certificate? I don't want to have to buy individual certificates for every domain, that'd be... expensive.

Single Server Hardware ... What Are Your Suggestions?

Sep 8, 2008

Based on todays equipement I know a person can spend Thousands on a good server, I'm looking to build my own and just want some advice on which way to go.

I'm thinking of just building the server pc in one case and the hard drive setup will be in a seperate case with the following:

3ware 9690SA-8E controller
Mass-Storage 8x by A-Tech Fabrication for a case
8 - SATA2 SEAGATE 1TB (7200rpm) 32MB on the controller as RAID

Can anyone give advice on what would be a good setup if you were running 1 single server for local businesses. I don't want to hear just pay for a provider as I've heard that one before now I'm looking to know what hardware setup you would run I like to play and learn. Even though sometimes the headache playing isn't as much fun as we sometimes may have hoped.

What are m/b and processor options for running a server?

What is min. amount of ram a person should run using linux and cpanel?

Should linux be on a max. amount of space for root and server files on a seperate mnt?

What connection up/down would be min. for usage of about 5gig/month?

Why Is NYC Not That Expensive For Single Server Colo

Jan 31, 2007

From reading these boards for a couple years now, I always had the impression that colo was cheapest in Texas or thereabouts, and was priciest in places like NYC. (Of course, I'm referring to relatively comparable service.)

Now I finally have a need for a single server colo (1U). The most-mentioned places in Texas on these boards are cologuys, colo4dallas, etc. Most of them have reasonable rates listed right on their website, around $100-170 for the bandwidth that I need, about 1.5Mbps.

But I've also been requesting quotes from various providers in NYC, who are also popular on these boards. And while there are some in the $200-250 range, which is what I was expecting, there are some that are mentioned highly on these boards (toqen, thenynoc, razorblue, etc.) that are quoting $60-100/month for the same amount of bandwidth.

I.e., not only comparable but in fact *lower* than the Texas colos.

What am I missing here? It's very possible that I'm comparing apples to oranges, cuz I really don't know any of these businesses. Just forming an opinion based on what gets recommended here on a consistent basis.

Multiple Sites On A Single Server

Jan 4, 2007

I am starting a small template based company. How many unique websites in their own unique folder can I host on a single server?

These websites would not get many hits, maybe a few hundread to a few thousand a month per site. My goal is to minimize the number of accounts I will have to open up with a web service provider.

Should I purchase 1 package per site or is there a way to get around this. Each unique site would have its own unique domain.
