Moving from VPS to Dedicated,
VPS (cPanel) and Dedicated (Plesk)...
I FTP'd all the files, what's left is the database.
I was going to restore the db using SSH, but I had to FTP it first, so I tried but half-way it would time out (disconnect from server)
Right now I am trying phpMyAdmin, I doubt it will work.
Is there a way to transfer from cPanel to Plesk?
DB size is 400MB

Is there a way to restore a MySQL database from the files located in /var/lib/mysql?
Unfortunately I don't have a mysqldump of the databases, just the raw files from an image of the server.
We were on shared hosting until we were asked to move off due to our database using a lot of the CPU - how much, we dont know.
Anyway, moved to a 1GB Hyper-V VPS, seems like we have one core of an E5420 but presume the server is shared between 12 people.
When our ASP application runs, the MSSQL server reaches 100% CPU and the website performs slower than the shared server we were on.
Where can we go from here? Seems like going from shared to a Dual/Quad Core Dedicated Server is a large jump and a massive jump in price.
What about a host with a high performance dedicated server for MSSQL shared between customers.
Any windows hosting provider with MSSQL database?
View 14 Replies View Relatedone of my servers currently died (it was a 1u System) Dual Xeon, 3GB RAM. I need the DATA off my SCSI harddrives.. i have a 2U system only, but when i try and put the SCSI harddrive into the Machine, windows crashes on the "Windows 2003 " starting screen. Windows, ugh, horrible. I need to get into windows to get my MSSQL database's backed up and then moved to a new server.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI moved my site to a new host and am running IPB 1.3 forums,
I have a 62meg sql backup to restore.
I have tried using BIGDUMP.php as max upload is over 52megs.
No Joy!
I also tried zipping the file, got it down to 9megs,
It wont complete the upload in PhpMyAdmin?
I have not had to restore a back up before, and am really struggling.
I have read about people wanting to change their database from MSSQL to MySQL. I however am wanting to change from MySQL to Microsoft SQL in our Plesk panel.

I'm trying to restore a 600MB database which was uploaded to the repository in plesk. This database backup did NOT originate from this server, but rather I'm attempting to overwrite a blank database that was created with the same name via plesk.
The site is one of our web-spaces (not a customer subscription) so I am logged in as the plesk administrator.
System Info:
Plesk 11.5
Windows 2008 R2 (64Bit)
3GB RAM
MySQL 5.1
Full Error: dbbackup failed: Unable to restore database 'databasename' Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.
I have tried altering the php.ini the PHP settings of the site (even though I'm logged in as the adminsitrator) as well as the php.ini of: C:ParallelsPleskadminphp.ini
memory_limit=2048M
It fails with the error after about 1GB of RAM usage on the server.

Logged into my panel today to run a database backup on a site I'm working on to be confronted with the following:
Unable to backup database 'XXXXXXXXXX'
Cannot open backup device 'C:Program Files (x86)ParallelsPleskBackupXXXXXXXXX.co.nzdatabasesXXXXXXXXX-29 est'. Operating system error 5(Access is denied.).
BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally.

I'm not sure why permissions would change on their own, I'm also not sure how to fix the permissions error. I get the same error on all databases.

I already have MSSQL 2005 on my server, one my the client requested us to install MSSQL express and they want to use the FOC version.
Can I run MSSQL server + MSSQL server express concurrently? Anybody can give me guidelines how to install it?
Do I need to uninstall MSSQL or it would be as easy as installing MSSQL express on top of MSSQL server.
I`ve just got a new Windows 2003 Web Edition box and now I`m going to install a database server on that.
MSSQL 2005 license would costs 270$/mo for me, So thats not possible to use it because of its price.
I`m not sure if MSSQL Express 2005 or MSDE (which are free) can handle all requirements of ASP.NET programmers or not.
Is there any limitations for major scripts on those? or will those make any doubts for programmers?
Please share your experiences and suggestions.
* I`m going to install "Hosting Controller" on that box.
I am planning on starting a new project and am curious as to if there would be an issue with hosting the websites (IIS) and the MSSQL Databases on the same server?
Basically housing all of the websites and SQL DBs on the same server?
Is this going to cause major problems? I originally thought that I should house the DBs separate but am starting to think that we can house the web and dbs on the same machine but I wanted to get some advice from other that know more about Windows then I.
how to restore an account from backups as my WHM backs up to an external server via FTP and I dont have a clue how to restore.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an existing client with about 200 email accounts, I want to migrate all of them off of our server and to a VPS or something. They wil use a webmail to access them.
Is that possible?
Also, is it possible to give the client access only to create email accounts without giving them access to the whole hosting control panel?
I am in the process of migrating client's website and mailboxes.
My server is using Plesk 8.1 with horde as the default webmail applacation and had to install Squirrelmail beacause he was using this program integrated in his website.
I have been able to install it, configure it, it works both on Http and Https and i'm able to receive and send emails.
After this i'm trying to restore all the mailboxes into the new server (10 GB worth of mail) but i can't seem to find where to place that folder. I have tried google and looked everywhere suggested but can't find the folder where mails are stored I have been able to find the folder where the addressbook and config file for every account is located (/var/qmail/mailnames/DOMAIN/ALIAS) but there are no emails there despite the fact that they appear in the Inbox in Squirrelmail.
The server is running Debian 3.1 with Plesk 8.1 and Squirrelmail 1.4.4
I had my server with FDCservers and its back after 2 days of horrible downtime which according to them was due to hardware failure.
Server specs:
Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 @ 2.40 GHz
4096 MB RAM
400 GB HDD
cPanel
The old drive has Fedora 5 running with cPanel but on new drive, its CentOS 4.5 with cPanel.
Now, I want to restore the files from old(slave) drive to master(main on which centOS is running)
How do I do that? Isnt there any possibility since I changed the Operating System.
what level of hardware/hosting plan I need for one of my clients.
Current stats:
~65 ecommerce orders per week
~5000 unique visitors per day
Requirements:
Win2k3
ASP.NET 3.5
MSSQL 2005
My first recommendation to them was RackSpace due their good reputation, but they were not able to pay for the plan suggested to them by RackSpace.
My other question is what type of plan do you guys recommend based on the above stats/requirements (managed/VPS/dedicated/etc.)? VPS is what came to mind for me since we'll probably end up using this setup for more than one website/domain and since they are so price sensitive.
I'm fairly comfortable setting up and administering Win2k3 and MSSQL. I'm sure that plays into the choices a little.
I know there is probably some information I have left out that would help you guys make a recommendation. Please just let me know what else would help.
I have around 5 servers each running an instance of MSSQL. Four of them hold small databases (largest is 4GB) and all fairly active (I was monitoring the largest for around a minute with SQL Profiler and it used about 2000 rows).
The largest server is used as a central database for logs for the above four servers.
This server runs across 4 * 15k drives in RAID10, but the RAM is a huge bottleneck (64bit OS, 32bit MSSQL). I also watched this server for around a minute in SQL Profiler and saw around 2000 rows being used again.
Now I'm looking to centralise everything into a single instance of MSSQL. I can't afford for MSSQL to be slow, but it will be housing 7 databases (3 'main' databases, 3 log databases, 1 misc. database).
I'm looking at this:
- 2 * Quad Core Xeon 5405 - 2.00GHz (Harpertown)
- 12GB RAM
- 250GB SATAII - Windows installation / Programs
- 250GB SATAII - Backup drive, MSSQL transaction logs
- 10 * 73GB SA-SCSI 10k (RAID10) - MSSQL instance, all databases here
I'm just wondering if anyone could hazard a guess if this would be sufficient? I've tried to explain things the best I can. I guess to summarise would be that there are a lot of read and writes that would happen if I conbined all the databases into a single instance.
I see that SQL Server Express said to be free but does that mean its free for commercial use? personal use? development use? I don't see any information.
Also I read on this board that some hosts offer this. Are they just using the free free version or something else?
what is the best way to connect to a MSSQL from a Centos box?

SYSTEM:
Fedora Core 4, 3GHz, 2GB RAM
Postgres 8, Apache 2, PHP 4
The issue is that I have with me a 1.5GB SQL dump from Postgres 8 which I extracted using pg_dump.
Restoring it seems to be an issue on this PC. I've tried modifying memory directives in postgresql.conf as well as the kernels SHMAX value but no go.
I tried a bunch of other things such as gzipping the file so that it was only 100mb and doing:
Code:
gunzip -c dump.sql.gz | psql my_db
But I recieved many errors saying "invalid command N" and I also got a syntax error notice and the process terminated.
I tried to at least try and enter some data manually but vim is incredibly slow since this is a 1.5GB file.
Is there a way I could perhaps split up my db dump and then import them into the db one by one?
I did the absolutely most stupid thing yesterday, I emptied the wrong mysql table via phpmyadmin. Fortunately my host managed to grab a the table in question from a few days ago.
So I have:
auctions.frm, auctions.MYD, and auctions.MYI
My assumption, is that I can just overwrite the current files of the same name in the mysql folder, and everyone will be happy. Is there some more to this process?
