View 7 Repliesto install a server for data sharing. My user want a Windows server with remote desktop to write, edit and share document.
The server will host 5 users. one admin and 4 users. each user will have there own account and folder. The user will update word files and save it directly on the server. The admin will have access to each directory (like a fileserver).
I want your recommandation for the share, the OS and the upgradability
I was trying with the Windows Longhorn on my local testing terminal to try out the new features and having some issues here. I was trying out for the Remote Management;configured the users at the IIS and downloaded the latest build from iis.net.However, I am getting a 404 error when trying to login.

But what about Linux? Can I have such remote desktop connection on CentOS 5?

I am having a VPS and tried to use RDC from home and it i working. But from my office I couldn't since it looks like RDC is blocked when connecting to out of LAN.
I have tried with the support to change the ports couple of times but still didn't work.
I tried: GoToMyPC, IRemotePC etc. But I believe these 3rd part software doesn’t work in Windows 2003 Server.
how to overcome RDC problem or web service or web service that can work on Windows 2003 Server for RDC?
manually install Windows 2003 std to a linux box ( CentOS 5.2 to be exact). The reason is my provider does not provide Windows or custom OS installation.

I've just ordered my new Windows 2003 server with 49Pence.com and will be taking "delivery" of it once they have commissioned it.
Anyway, I would appreciate some advice on how to secure it. I have been used to the luxury of a hardware firewall, but budgetary constraints mean I will have to rely upon a software firewall (something that scares me a little). It will be running our company websites, MSSQL and MDaemon mailserver.
I am not sure exactly how the server will be delivered, but I assume it will arrive fully patched with Remote Desktop access, and Windows Firewall installed.
First question: Is Windows Firewall sufficent? I am more used to configuring firewalls with Ports/Protocols/IP's rather than "applications". I also understand that Windows Firewall cannot restrict access to specific IP's.
I read that IPSec / TCP Filtering should also be used. I've looked at various links and have an idea how to do this, but I do not want to make a mistake and get "locked out". I saw a post saying that during testing they set up a scheduled job to reset the IPSec policies every x minutes so that they can log back in if they do make a mistake. How would this be done (in terms of IPSec) .. or is this a matter of stopping a service?
If I go with another software firewall, is there an easy way to install remotely without getting locked out of the Remote Desktop? KVM over IP is a charged by the hour.
It is "safe" to leave Port 3389 open and rely upon passwords (and potentially IPSEC IP policies), or should I administer by VPN?
If so, it seems that in order to create a VPN connection on the server, it requires that the Windows Firewall is shut down (at least on my test server here). Obviously this is something I don't want to do!
please be patient with me, im new to dns technical issues.
What im trying to do is, I have a a web design company that offers hosting for the content we design. Now i have a customer who has a domain name registered through godaddy on their own account. How do i get the website content to appear when a visitor types in the domain name.
My hosting account has a dedicated ip if that makes a difference.
I understand that there may be more ways than one to accomplish this task.
I'm running a VPS at TekTonic.net and so far I have only one problem. I love TekTonic's services in general, but for some crazy reason, I can't get my MySQL server to work.
I've asked MySQL's support staff, and they haven't found an answer to date. I can do just about anything on my MySQL server EXCEPT add/remove a database, which creates a problem. A BIG problem.
what I'm looking for now is a remote MySQL host that will accept connections from my TekTonic-hosted VPS.
shared hosting for multiple websites, but I have some specific requirements:
1) Remote connections to a SQL database (using SQLCompare)
2) ASP.NET 2.0
3) A decent control panel to set things like subdomains up
Other features such as disk space aren't as important to me. I'm just having trouble finding any hosting that allows remote connections. Right now I'm using godaddy and it's great... just no remote connections.
I have an account which used a remote MSSQL server which I have since deactivated, but before deactivating I forgot to remove the DB and Server from plesk.
So now I can't remove the remote MSSQL server from plesk as there is a DB associated with it, and I can't remove the DB because it obviously can't find the remote server! I'm now stuck in a loop!
How I can force remove the DB/User from plesk and then the remote server ? I'm now receiving errors whilst backing up the account, so needs to be done.
We have the Windows version of Plesk 11.5 installed. I've removed the "Management of access to the server over Remote Desktop" but two of my sites (there's only 4 so far) still have the remote desktop button available if you log into the user account and switch to those two domains. Switching to the other two doesn't display the icon. I'm not sure if there's another place where it gets turned on/off as I've tested creating a new subscription with the "Management of access to the server over Remote Desktop" ticked and it's not giving me the desktop icon there.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI know that Windows RDP Hosting is not a new Idea, but has anyone tried it with Ubuntu. I do have VNC Access to the server, but that only allows me to authenticate with a password, I need username and password.
What would be the best remote application for this?
I have subscribed an account in Powweb but since the Powweb does not allow MySQL remote access I need to find another hosting that allow MySQL remote access.
Wich hosting with MySQL remote access do you know?
good remote management solution.
As the Intel vPro chip set looks very nice and has all this, what we need (remote power management, hardware analysis/informations, kvm, etc) we bought one main board with that chip set.
We had now the problem to find a software which has a good support for the Intel vPro chip set. We found and tried:
Intel AMT Developer Kit
LANDesk
Microsoft System Configuration Manager 2007
SyAM Software
The onliest software, which was install able and connect able at the moment, was the Intel AMT Developer Kit. Software like LANDesk and MS SysConfigMgr needs Windows Server Versions with and without Windows Domain. We succeeded (after fixing the requirements of each software) to install everything, but no software is able to connect to the vPro chip. Only the Intel AMT Developer Kit does.
The Intel AMT Developer Kit looks on the first look enough anf powerful. We can power on, off, reset, we see hardware informations, we can enter also the bios over remote console. But as soon as we want to start remotely a cd, for example simple memtest86 image, it doesn't gives any display.
Does someone of you has good experience in this system?
Has someone some suggestions, what software else is existing?
We want to manage linux/unix based and windows as well.
With manage we mean, to install and to maintain.
If here is some company, which can help us, also if it costs some money, we would be glad to get in touch.
I'm using Plesk 12.0.18 version with Windows 2012. I need to backup files to remote ftp server. Remote server configuration is Windows 2012 with IIS server. It works with ftp clients very well.
But, i have a problem about Personel FTP Repository. I open Personal FTP Repository Settings and write all boxes with true information about remote ftp server but it says "Transport error: unable to list directory: Curl error: Login denied".
Ftp server works fine with ftp clients and cpanel backups.
I'm hosting wmv,wma,mp3 files, streaming of video can be done with Windows hosting, but my website script is with php.
Do you suggest Windows Server 2008 hosting or redhat linux hosting?
I have a problem with Parallels Plesk v12.0
Hosting type on website became "No web hosting."
When I try to change hosting type to "Forwarding" it changes ok.
If I change hosting type to "Website hosting", I get message "The hosting type for "website name" was successfully changed.", but hosting plan still stay "No web hosting"....
I want to know the difference between windows hosting and linux hosting

View 14 Replies View RelatedI would like to compare what windows shared hosting is currently available to what I'm currently using as I'm getting charges for high bandwidth (20 gigs) for 40 websites which is not really high these days and I have to pay $1 every extra gig & its rising.
I don't want a VPS as I have tried them in the past and it is too much effort to set them up although I will use one in the future when I have the time to set one up properly. ALso with the ones I tried the memory couldn't cope and if I needed to get reasonable performance I would have had to pay a lot of $$$
My requirements are (all to be included in monthly price):
# must be unlimited or at least 50 domains can be hosted
# Offer Helm
# 50 gigs Bandwidth or more
# Clean host (no SEO banning or problems)
# Hosting Company Must not be a reseller - I want the real deal, proven & experienced host that has been around for at least 2 years. I will be doing a lot of research so please don't bother plugging your reseller business.
# I want at least 5 dedicated IP's with package
# Must offer AWStats with each domain
# Price: currently paying around $30 per month so something similar would be good
I am providing linux hosting for a while now, but want to expand my services to windows hosting as well.
I am looking to get a dedicated server, but could use some help in deciding what to chose.
What would be better for windows 2003 hosting? It would normally be used for asp.net pages, and people can use ms sql (but the free msde edition). There will also be mysql on the server.
What would be better, more ram or more cpu?
config 1: less cpu, more ram
Xeon QUAD-CORE Clovertown E5130 (4 times 1,6 Ghz)
8 GB ECC DDR2 ram
config 2: more cpu, less ram
Dual QuadCore 5310 8 times 1.6GHz Cores
4GB ECC DDR2 Ram
