Apr 8, 2009
How do i setup vpn server on windows 2003 so that client traffic go through the remote vpn server? Something like strongvpn.com service which change the client ip address.
I tried setting up, now client able to connect to the server using windows vpn. But once connected, internet cannot work. How to use the vpn server as gateway?
Server have only 1 network card.
Can windows xp act as vpn server for the same purpose?
if there are any hosts you would recommend working with for hosting a DB app (MySQL or SQL Server is fine). The trick with many hosts is that the database is not made directly available to remote clients due to security reasons. What I'd like to do is provide the DB hosting for a client/server application we are developing. For many of these users, setting up and managing a database will be too complex, so I'd like to provide the hosting for them.
Additionally, we'll be starting small and will need room to grow -- probably up to fully dedicated hosting.
So -- any good experiences out there with this kind of hosting? It goes far beyond the usual specs of bandwidth, disk space, etc. into needing low server densities, high availability of the DB service, and most importantly, no plans to block remote access to DBs in the future...
i have question which i'v serched for answer for it more than 3 days , may be more.. but i still can't catch it.
now if i have aWin EST server , and i have t remote desktop . i can creat accounts right?
well , if i need to manage the traffic for evry account, and give account whatever 500 GB trffic , another account with 500 GB , another with 300 GB , etc etc..
how can i know they have reched thier limite and they stop useig more from the server?
Is it actually possible to find Windows dedicated server with unlimited traffic (1Gb Pipe)and reliable 24/7 technical support? Cause I have searched and found out that if the traffic is unlimited the pipe is too small, and if the pipe is big enough traffic is limited and additional one costs a fortune.
The last packet successfully received from the server was 60.410.682 milliseconds ago. The last packet sent successfully to the server was 60.410.687 milliseconds ago. is longer than the server configured value of 'wait_timeout'. You should consider either expiring and/or testing connection validity before use in your application, increasing the server configured values for client timeouts, or using the Connector/J connection property 'auto Reconnect= true' to avoid this problem.
Calling on all hosting and server experts here. (If you're not an expert, still feel free to take an educated stab at this. But please leave out total made up answers or foolish answers like "Have LittleJoeShmoe Hosting services do it all for $9.99/month".)
Scenario: If you knew or were planning on developing a site that you knew would generate millions to tens of millions of page views a day, how would you go about supporting a site of such traffic? The site would not serve up videos, but the average page size would contain up to 75-100kB. It would incorporate databases (user logins, accounts, user submitted content, server side scripting, CMS, etc.)
Don't assume anything. Don't assume you have too little or too much money. Just, what would you plan out to accomodate such a scenario?
What hosting companies would you use? Would you do it in-house and build your own datacenter? Farm out the server management? How much would it cost to implement your plan? What platform would you recommend for a site to handle this much traffic?
I basically bought a HPS Complete VPS hosting account with EuroVPS and i am having problems setting up an email client as no web mail client comes by default with that plan.
I asked the eurovps support team 2-3 times on how to set up MS Outlook as my email client for my domain and they answered the same thing and it's not working.
I was wondering,if anyone of you have HSP Complete VPS hosting account with euroVPS and is there anyway to have webmail.
As per there documentation,i am using the following: username: user email:user@mydomain.com smtp&pop3: mail.mydomain.com smtp port: 25 pop port: 110 Selected to use authentication for outgoing server and checked the option to use same authentication method as incoming server, Deselected SPA authentication scheme
I did everything as per the documentation they sent me but it's not working,
to install a server for data sharing. My user want a Windows server with remote desktop to write, edit and share document.
The server will host 5 users. one admin and 4 users. each user will have there own account and folder. The user will update word files and save it directly on the server. The admin will have access to each directory (like a fileserver).
I want your recommandation for the share, the OS and the upgradability
I am currently moving from my current dedicated servers because they simply cannot handle the load. I have a site which frequently makes it onto radio, digg and other similar sites.
I need a dedicated server that can take a beating from Digg and offline Media. For most of the month the server load is really low, the site hardly uses up anything. However, when it hits those sites, it suffers.
I am OK with using Shell, just basic tars/logs/sqldumping/httpd.conf editing/rebooting etc.. anything beyond that like installing and configuring software I cant really do.
I guess I am looking at a dedicated option (linux based) with a host that'll setup software/modules modules for me when I ask, but doesn't really need to hold my hand all the time.
How are ThePlanet.com's servers? Do they manage the servers?
creating a setup that will host a site which is expected to receive 50-60K visitors in the first few hours after its launch. The site is membership based and the backend (member system) runs on PHP5-MySQL5.
Here is what I have thought of until now.
Site's sales page (which also happens to be the first page that visitors hit) hosted with Amazon S3 service. All public media files are off loaded to amazon S3 service to keep the number of requests on the hosted setup to minimum.
At the front we can have a high performance firewall like Cisco ASA 5520 followed by two dedicated load balancers in Active/Active state.
Behind the load balancers we have 3 front end servers acting as web-servers. These have SAS disks, 4GB RAM, RAID 1 setup, Dual Xeon Quad core processors each.
Behind the front end servers - we have a dedicated load balancer for the database cluster.
The database cluster consists of 3 Storage/API nodes and one of the front end servers acts as the management node. Each storage node has 8GB RAM, Dual Xeon Quad core processors, 4x RAID 10, SAS setup.
The private network is on a GigaLan.
Do you see any possible/obvious flaw in this design or anything that should be added/subtracted from the setup?
I am having a VPS and tried to use RDC from home and it i working. But from my office I couldn't since it looks like RDC is blocked when connecting to out of LAN.
I have tried with the support to change the ports couple of times but still didn't work.
I tried: GoToMyPC, IRemotePC etc. But I believe these 3rd part software doesn’t work in Windows 2003 Server.
how to overcome RDC problem or web service or web service that can work on Windows 2003 Server for RDC?
i installed wampserver on my remote windows VPS.i opened port 80.after that i try to connect it by typing "h t t p : / / remotelink" on my local machine browser.but i can not connect.
I have installed Plesk Panel in a Windows 2008 R2 server but i need to use an EmailEnable Sever installed on another Windows 2008 R2 Server. Is it possible to manage that?
I want to be able to do some testing on a Windows Server. Instead of finding a domain and finding web space I figured I could just use one of my own PCs as a web server.
However, I've never done that before and have no idea what I would need.
Does anyone have a tutorial of what needs to be installed (OS, software, etc) in order to setup a Windows web server? Doesn't have to have any features other than supporting ASP. And I'd need to be able to access it from the internet via my ISP and a port.
I am a good systems administrator but I have never setup a windows web server. Are there any tutorials out on the web that would show me how to do it. Is it true when a dedicated server is purchased the only thing I have to do is transfer the htm or asp files?
I have an account which used a remote MSSQL server which I have since deactivated, but before deactivating I forgot to remove the DB and Server from plesk.
So now I can't remove the remote MSSQL server from plesk as there is a DB associated with it, and I can't remove the DB because it obviously can't find the remote server! I'm now stuck in a loop!
How I can force remove the DB/User from plesk and then the remote server ? I'm now receiving errors whilst backing up the account, so needs to be done.
I've just purchased a Windows Server 2008 VPS plan with a hosting provider. With that I have needed to open up several ports - 21 (FTP), 25 & 110 (Mail) on Windows Firewall.
My first question is about security on those ports. So far I've just opened them in Windows Firewall and that's it. Is there anything in particular I should consider to keep those ports secure?
I've also had to install a mail server. So far I've installed the standard version of MailEnable and have it running fine. The problem I see is that the standard version has no spam filtering and no virus checking.
So I did some more looking into all this and found SmarterMail, the free version. The thing that gives this potential comes straight off their site... "SmarterTools understand what it is like to be part of a growing company. Budgets are tight, and often money is not available for software expenses.". This is exatly where I'm at, a small business with no software budget, at least not for now.
After looking into it, it appears as though we would have to pay for spam/virus protection when using MailEnable, because this is for commercial use (Maybe there's some free spam/vrus software for MailEnasble I'm not aware of), but we would have that included with SmarterMail. As an added note, this VPS facility is for a single domain and I realise that SmarterMail only allows for 10 accounts, but we can live with that for now.
Does anyone have real world experince using MailEnable vs. SmarterMail in this kind of scenraio? If so, from experience, what do you think is the best option?
I'm using Plesk 12.0.18 version with Windows 2012. I need to backup files to remote ftp server. Remote server configuration is Windows 2012 with IIS server. It works with ftp clients very well.
But, i have a problem about Personel FTP Repository. I open Personal FTP Repository Settings and write all boxes with true information about remote ftp server but it says "Transport error: unable to list directory: Curl error: Login denied".
Ftp server works fine with ftp clients and cpanel backups.
We are setting up 5 instances of Windows 2003 server on all the same server hardware. I want to spend the time setting up 1 instance, so installing windows updates, drivers, settings, configuration, then have the ability to mirror/image that perfect setup 4 other times.
I setup FTP access on Plesk, then when i try connect to the server it seems to be trying to access through a old installation on FileZilla Beta server manager, that was obviously installed on the server a while back. I can only think it is not using which ever FTP manager Plesk uses.
I want to use Gmail to host my email. I have already confirmed my domain and now I can successfully send emails via my domain.
However in order to receive emails I need to add/update the MX records on my server. I did that (I think) but now, 24h later, the records don't seem to be updated yet.
For instance intodns.com still shows that there is only one MX record: [URL] ....
This is my setup where you can clearly see the MX records required by Google:
I changed the TTL to some minutes but still the changes don't seem to be propagated.
The screenshots are taken from "Website & Domains" -> my domain -> DNS - that should be the right thing to change, correct?
i want to know if anyone know a DNS Client software for Windows 2003 DNS Server? i cannot find anything about it all i get is DHCP Clients but this is not what i searched for i did search for a Client Software like the updater for DynDNS or something like that.
I have a windows 2003 vps and I need way monitor how much traffic I make per month. I believe I'm getting close to my quota and I need to measure it.
I've seen some nice free programs that claim to work on windows 2003 server but the fact is they don't use a service so they only work while the GUI program runs, which is obviously silly for a server!
What do you guys use for this? I mean other then web traffic tools since most of my traffic is not HTTP!
We are using Putty SSH clients it's great but we are looking for SSH client which can store passwords. So we don't have to enter password each time we login to the server using SSH client.
