Domain Name With Remote Hosting
please be patient with me, im new to dns technical issues.
What im trying to do is, I have a a web design company that offers hosting for the content we design. Now i have a customer who has a domain name registered through godaddy on their own account. How do i get the website content to appear when a visitor types in the domain name.
My hosting account has a dedicated ip if that makes a difference.
I understand that there may be more ways than one to accomplish this task.

Remote Connection To Domain Fails
I have an Ubuntu 8.04 server with 2 nerwork cards eth0 and eth1. I am using only eth0. The server is behind a 2-wire router. I have setup the router with the public IP addresses. On the server I have setup an IP alias on eth0 as eth0:0. I have 3 domains which i will call foo1.com foo2.com and foo3.com. The server pc is assigned to a static public address on the router as 217.xx.xx.100 this same ip also used to setup the virtual host for foo1.com Quote: <VirtualHost 217.xx.xx.100:80> ServerName foo1.com ServerAlias www.foo1.com ServerAdmin me@foo1.com DocumentRoot /var/www/foo1/ </VirtualHost> I have also setup and applied an ssl certificate to 217.xx.xx.100:443. Now eth0:0 is assigned to 217.xx.xx.101 and used as below Quote: <VirtualHost 217.xx.xx.101:80> ServerName foo2.com ServerAlias www.foo2.com ServerAdmin me@foo2.com DocumentRoot /var/www/foo2/ </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost 217.xx.xx.101:80> ServerName foo3.com ServerAlias www.foo3.com ServerAdmin me@foo3.com DocumentRoot /var/www/foo3/ </VirtualHost> When I am on the router I can access all the domains via the browser and can also get FTP, and ssh connection to the server. However when I leave the range of the server and connect to the net via another router, I loose ftp and ssh access to the server as well as not able to browse www.foo1.com. However www.foo2.com and www.foo3.com I can browse.

Remote MySQL 5.0 Hosting
I'm running a VPS at TekTonic.net and so far I have only one problem. I love TekTonic's services in general, but for some crazy reason, I can't get my MySQL server to work. I've asked MySQL's support staff, and they haven't found an answer to date. I can do just about anything on my MySQL server EXCEPT add/remove a database, which creates a problem. A BIG problem. what I'm looking for now is a remote MySQL host that will accept connections from my TekTonic-hosted VPS.

Remote SQL Connect Web Hosting
shared hosting for multiple websites, but I have some specific requirements: 1) Remote connections to a SQL database (using SQLCompare) 2) ASP.NET 2.0 3) A decent control panel to set things like subdomains up Other features such as disk space aren't as important to me. I'm just having trouble finding any hosting that allows remote connections. Right now I'm using godaddy and it's great... just no remote connections.

Anonymous Hosting/domain
about anonymous hosting/domain registration. I've been a web developer for a while and just started building a site for a friend of mine overseas. He wants everything to be completely anonymous due to the nature of the site (steroids). Now I'm pretty sure I got it figured out but it seems too easy. Offshore domain registration with a prepaid card/ offshore web hosting the same way. My guy says he wants everything as anonymous as possible and is already hooked up to the Tor network with Privoxy.

Domain And Exchange Hosting
I'm currently with 1and1 - obviously they suck - no need to belabor that here. I've been resisting a hosting switch, but the outages are more and more frequent, and my website is my livlihood. Need recommendations for web/MySql hosting and also hosting for a single Exchange account. Does not have to be the same company. Price is not a huge issue - I'm willing to pay for quality. Requirements are basic; about 3-5 GB of file storage, SQL 4 and 5, linux server. Shared server is fine. Any recommendations? Don't really trust the "review" sites. Some kind of moving assistance/support would be GREAT. I've managed to muddle through and set all this stuff up over the years, but am not at all confident of my ability to move it all without screwing up. Includes 3 active databases, several sites, SSL cert (currently purchased through 1&1 but it looks like they farmed it out to geotrust), and exchange mailbox.

Hosting/Domain Name Reseller
I am stuck between GoDaddy and HostGator for reseller account. What I want is to offer my client to host their site I design on my hosting service but I also want to offer reseller program on other site. Here are the problems: GoDaddy have good automatic system, but it won't let me have the freedom to have access into my client's cpanel to upload or update their website unless they have to give me their username and password. GoDaddy requires me to purchase reseller and SUPER reseller package if I want to run two websites. GatorHost offers me to manage WHM and Cpanel for my clients which is good. They also have ENOM for me to be domain dealer. The negative thing about Gatorhost is that I have to use one of their free template, if I need one, but their templates sucks! And I do not know how to tailor my own website with their WHM automated billing system. What do you suggest and where can I find a good hosting template to edit. I just wish that GatorHost have automatic system with better template!

Do not know which ones are good or to aviod. I had a website with webhostingpad, but they couldn't get my webmail to work, so I cancelled. Apart from that, the service wasn't bad. Now hunting for a new web host. Newbie, so don't need such big resources. Website is to promote a home school. A few pics and webmail that works is all I need. Site builder would be good too. Budget: about $5 a month. Location: Japan.

Unlimited Domain Hosting
A while back I had a hosting service prepaid for 2 years...awful. They say I can have unlimited domain hosting. But it turned out I can have subdomains that's what they meant. I think its false advertising. Right now I have a cheap host for $1/month reseller, promise of unlimited domains/bandwidth etc., How is it possible to host unlimited domains? Or is this a concept used by everyone to mean unlimited "subdomains"? how this work? Because I am trying to save cost on hosting and have a reliable service provider. Is it possible in CPanel?

Hosting And Domain Name China
For my future Chinese Bonsai website I am considering several options for hosting and domain names. Until now I have a US and an Amsterdam hosting (English version in the US and the Dutch, French and German in Amsterdam). As the Chinese version will be non-political I think I prefer to host it in mainland China. Does anyone here knows a good webhosting that is not too cheap? I need 100Mb and some GB's (I guess under 5GB should be ok) of bandwidth. Furthermore, I am not sure what domain name to choose. I have 4 options: 1. the name in pinyin (normal text) .com 2. the name in pinyin .cn 3. the name in Chinese characters .com 3. the name in Chinese characters .cn If I choose to take a .com, would it matter to have this domain name registered in the US? This is cheaper than in China I think; however, it is important to me that the website is seen by Baidu as 100% Chinese (does it matter where a domain name is registered?)

(i think it is not too possible for both of them) And i don't really need huge web space...i think 1G is enough and the traffic will not too much too as it is private website. My budge is limited and not too much for a month. I plan to spend less than US$10 per month to get a web-hosting. Also with a domain name too.

I just signed up about 30 minutes ago, so maybe I need to wait for the domain to register into the system, but I feel like I got ripped off. Anybody have any idea of if I just need to wait, and then the regular domain will work?

Hosting, Domain And Templates
I'm in a unique position (friend of a business owner) to provide a hosting company between 50 to 1000 new clients who need a domain name, yearly hosting and a 1 or 2 page website that clients can edit and customize to a limited amount (color, main body text and headers and some graphics within body). A basic template with graphics and text would be provided, just need the backend for the clients to customize certain things. I'm new to the hosting scene, so I'm not sure of any exsisting hosts that offer this. I'm sure some of the big hosting companies offer something similar like godaddy. However we are looking for a hosting company that we can recieve residual referral monies from these clients we sign up. I guese if someone offers a reseller account with all these features, then we charge our clients whatever we want. I am just looking at options right now to research and provide suggestions to my partner.

I certainly hope domain names are transferrable around the expiration period.

Can Your Hosting Address Be Seen When You Forward A Domain?
For example, if I forward my business domain abcproducts.com to my domain where I have my hosting, myname.com, is it possible for people to see where my business domain is forwarding to. Basically, I am doing a business website, but I don't want anyone to be able to see that it actually is forwarding to a folder on my main myname.com where I have my hosting. I am masking it, so it will only show abcproducts.com, but I am wondering if even the "tech saavy" has tools to figure this out. I just don't want anyone to be able to see this. Like, I know how sites like DNSreport.com show all kinds of stuff on the domain. Is there something like this that people can use to see if domains forward?

Info To Transfer Domain Out Of IX Hosting
Summary on Issue I have with IX Hosting I am disappointed on the option provide to me by IX webhosting to resolved my issue. Summary: 1. My hosting and domain was handle by a previous staff which is charge to a CC belong to that staff. 2. The staff was fired and he filled a chargeback with his CC without me knowing it on the hosting. 3. Account was then suspended and there isn't anything that I can do about it. Option left for me: 1. Nothing that IX webhosting is able to do beside asking me to recontact my ex staff to contact his bank which is not possible (the case was closed by the bank according to my ex staff when i was able to contact him). 2. Spending another 1 - 2 year time to rebuilt another website to bring in traffic since the url and hosting are frozen by IX webhosting. 3. Filled a complain to complain board and point this problem out to public where an admin or account making payment for URL and hosting can screwed up the company at any one point while hosting with IX webhosting.

I thought all I had to do was add the Hawk Host name servers to my Name account but that doesn't seem to be helping. Domain Name Server (DNS) Hosting On A VPS

Because my client owns a local mailserver, (I think it's MS Exchange server) I need to create a primary MX record to deliver all the mails to that mailserver. No problem till here.. But he also needs a secondary MX record in case his mailserver is inaccessible ,so all the mails have to be queued on my VPS and when his mailserver is accessible again to deliver all the mails. Any idea of how I can configure my dns zones for that?

Hosting Company Doesn't Respond - Is My Domain Lost
its not actually my domain but the other day an older lady contacted me frustrated because she had lost her login info for her dog kennel site. She tried for over a month to get a hold of the company but no one returns her calls or emails. She contacted me to see if there was anything I could do. The first thing I did was fire off an email and call the number I was given. Left a msg to call me back, waited a few days sent another email and made another phone call...nothing. So I did some sniffing around and found the company had changed names to Black Wire Marketing (from teknon media). So I sent emails to them and made phone calls....it was the same phone system as the previous number. My question is this, is there any protocol for recovering a website or more importantly the domain, if the hosting company has left town? The original site definitely resembles a flyby night reseller setup and not one that had a lot of thought put into it, wreaks of IM (why do IM people think they make good hosting service providers?).

E-mail Hosting, Google Apps And Domain Locking
I've seen that a similar topic was posted earlier today, but I have more specific question. I'm looking for the e-mail only hosting. Requirements: * dedicated IP * SMTP + SSL (TLS) * POP3/IMAP + SSL (TLS) * up to 10 e-mail addresses from various domains * forwarders (10 or more) * 1-5 GB storage * 10 GB bandwidth * budget: the less the better, but I'll pay any reasonable amount of money if the service is good. Basically I need to find a provider at which I can keep my e-mail address once and for all. (I need a few e-mails only, a few forwarders, 100 MB storage and 1 GB bandwidth but I stated more so I don't run out on resources) Is there any significant difference between SSL and TLS or is it all mainly in the proprietary vs open standard? Is there any good reason why not to use Google Apps for this purpose? I've read that some people are concerned about privacy. Is there any pro that can comment on this (privacy issue) and remain objective? One last (dumb?) question. What is the purpose of domain locking? Before AuthCodes were introduced I could see the reason for locking domains, but why would anyone want to lock the domain these days? (and yet I see majority still does) I mean, noone can initiate the transfer without providing AuthCode (can he?) and isn't that alone good enough to keep the domain safe? And if someone manages to gain control to the control panel to read AuthCode then he can easily unlock the domain so I see no additional layer of security.

How Can A Hosting Company Give Away A Free Domain Name For Life
I am just curious, I know that it is a great customer retention hook, but really, and how about unlimited bandwidth? This is my first post on the forum, and I will be asking many more questions as I want to get the inside scoop before I take the reseller plunge. At first glance it seems as though the advertising is throughout the site and not just in the advertisement section. I know it's only $7.95, but for life? I guess if they're paying for 2 years at a time, but month to month there is no way. They would end up with a ton of registered domains, and allot of parked domains. Oh well just thought I would ask.
