POP Server Error After Apache Update
I run a dedicated server with WHM/cPanel (10.8.0).
I was recently supposed to update the Apache installation to add a module, but instead of clicking "load previous config" I clicked on "start build" by mistake. This brought the installation back to default.
I waited till the build was finished and then added all the modules I could remember having installed earlier. This made Apache not wanting to start. I went back to the default and then recompiled apache over and over again, adding 1 o 2 modules every time. Apache booted up fine, but for some reason my mail is suddenly acting up.
I keep getting the following error on one of my domain in my client:
Code:
Unable to connect to POP server mail.example.com.
Error sending password: -ERR Maildir invalid (no 'cur' directory)
When I click OK, I get:
Code:
Unable to connect to POP server mail.example.com.
Error sending password: Operation now in progress
I have a couple of other accounts in the mail client. None of them are receiving mails, even though I can see that there are new mails present in the mailbox via webmail.
My exim is configured to use mbox as far as I know. So I don't understand why I'm getting an invalid maildir message.

I got rvskin with whm and it seems whm create account for itself. But every time when i load whm i getting popup with error Hostname A Entry Missing! The server was unable to lookup an an A entry for its hostname (ns175.domain.com). This is generally because the entry was never added. However this could also be the result of your nameserver(s) being down. If you would like to attempt to automatically add the entry, And i am sure i have that A entry.Any idea why is that happening ?

Pop Failed :: CPanel POP Services - All My Servers
pop failed @ Thu May 1 00:38:11 2008. A restart was attempted automagically. Its been happening from around 00:00 GMT 30th April/1st May. All my servers are spamming me with these, not just one. All are set to auto update on STABLE build. Anyone else having these issues? cPanel and their nasty bug releases I suppose. Even after paying them a premium price and recognizing them as a premium control panel provider!

Server Update, Too Many Apache Processes But Low Load
I have 2 almost similar webservers: debian 3.2, P4 3GHZ, 1 Gb ram, kernel 2.6, apache2, php4 Initial apache2.conf: Code: Timeout 4 KeepAlive Off KeepAliveTimeout 2 ServerLimit 1500 <IfModule prefork.c> StartServers 10 MinSpareServers 10 MaxSpareServers 15 MaxClients 1500 MaxRequestsPerChild 3000 </IfModule> I update the sources.list on server 1 to mirrors of the new debian 4 etc . I run apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade . A whole bunch of things get updated (it was long time ago that I did this anyway). After some troubles with /boot/grub/menu.lst the server boots ok, and everything is well. This server used to have loads of 15-25 at peak times, but after the update its running very smooth with loads of 2-3 at the same peak times. I dont know why exactly, as I noticed updates in OS , kernel version (from 2.6.8x to 2.6.18) , apache2 , php (4.4.4-8+etch1) , and I also needed to update eaccelerator from 0.94 to 0.95 . A few days later I update server 2. Everything seems to go the same, although the kernel version stays at 2.6.8-3-686. I dont think kernel version at start was exactly same at server 1. But the new php version is the same as server 1, and everything else looks the same too. But when peak times are coming up, this server starts to have troubles. It is quickly rising to total of 200-300 processes , while server 1 always stays stable at 60-70. Server 2 also reacts slow if I click somewhere on the site. It takes 5-10 seconds to show a new page. However the load stays pretty low at 1-2 . I see no big cpu usage and also no big memory usage. I have the impression that this server 2 is somehow wasting a lot of apache processes and is making things hard for itself without a real reason. When I check the seperate mysql database server, I also notice a lot of processes. Around 200-250 whereas it used to be 40-60. Sometimes this adds up so hard, that all webservers are blocked because mysql has too much processes. When I check the mysql connections, I see a few dozen things like 'unauthen ip:port Connect login' just hanging. All of them have the ip of webserver 2. Those extra apache processes are somehow hanging on to the mysql server without really doing something. I dont know what is happening, but this server is underperforming very badly now. I managed to limit the problem by drastically lowering ServerLimit and MaxClients on webserver 2 , but this is no real solution. The server is still slow, at least now its not bringing down the others. My question : what should I check for now ? I noticed a different structure in the conf files in debian etch, maybe something new has a bad influence on my old conf files? Is there something wrong with the combination of kernel+php version? I have no idea, please point me in the right direction so I can learn from this.

Website Pop Up Issues On Server
I am having pop-ups issues on my website. Previously I tried to solve it out but wasn't able to because due to 64 bit of Windows 2003 most of the softwares were having compatibility issues. But now when I have switched the server to 32-bit, on the new server, the website is still having the pop-ups. I have tried a couple of softwares to detect them, but in vain. I am getting out of ideas now. Can someone help or suggest me something in this regard?

Apache Down With 503 Error / Http Requests Get Redirected / Is Server Hacked
My Linux Server's Http Daemon (Apache) would stop serving websites ever so often, as soon as apache is restarted the error fixes iteself only to resurface within few hours. The apache process would still be running i.e. apache does not die but no websites hosted on my server would be accessible from browser. And when this happens the apache logs do not log any http requests. Instead when this happens all http requests to my server would be redirected to some weird Trojan website and my Norton Antivirus would show an Alert/Warning, for example; "Browser exploit at www.xxx.xxx was blocked" Risk Name: MSIE WebViewFolderIcon ActiveX Control BO or another error like; "Auto-Protect has detected Trojan.Fakeavalert". At first i thought the problem could be with my Laptop/ISP so i logged on to the server via SSH and opened try to open a website using command line "lynx mywebsite.com" and it shows following error; "Alert!: HTTP/1.0 503 Service Unavailable". Now if i assume my laptop were to be infected, then as soon as i restart my apache and visit mywebsite.com eveything returns to normal with no such warnings. Why do i see those norton error messages only when apache is down with 503, and when apache is down with 503 how come the http requests always get redirected to some suspicious websites and nothing gets logged in apache error log? I think my server is being attacked causing http to get unresponsive and thereafter http requests to my server are redirected to some malicious website, is this correct? Also, i suspect this is a php script exploit as some customers have reported that google have blocked their website due to security reasons, i found <iframe> tage inserted in some php pages which i fixed. Also, another thinh i noticed; when apache responds with the 503 it is referencing PHP 5.1.4 in the header response: [root@]# curl -I xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (my server ip) HTTP/1.0 503 Service Unavailable Server: Apache X-Powered-By: PHP/5.1.4 Retry-After: 20 I am running PHP 4.3.9m why does apache responds with PHP 5.1.4 when this 503 error surfaces? Also, since my apache was dowan with 503 error a customer mailed in today saying; "It seems that my site www.xxxx.com is regularly down, and the winlogon virus is involved." I suspect this is again due to the fact that http requests start getting redirected?

Used Apache Update/some PHP Scripts No Longer Working
Having some issues here, I used Apache Update to install WHMCS as I didn't have Curl installed. Well had some issues using the username and password as it couldn't connect to the database, my modernbill and phpnuke scripts still work but some other scripts like joomla, some shopping cart software, and other MYSQL scripts are not working. I've run test scripts to see if I can connect to the database, got the following error with the PHP test script Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user 'data_invoice'@'localhost' (using password: YES) in /home/data/public_html/test2.php on line 4 I cannot connect to the database because:Access denied for user 'data_invoice'@'localhost' (using password: YES) Also attempted it in SSH and getting a similar error that access is denied. Username and password are correct. I believe I upgraded PHP which my guess is what caused this. I've searched the forum for a few solutions and I had the problem in the past which I fixed it, but it's been a while.

Apache 2.2 / Php 5 Update: Calling Files Behind Root
With my old Apache 1 and PHP4 I was able to pull files from behind the public_html using a php file without any problems. Is there a reason why this does not work with Apache 2.2 and PHP5? the piece of coding below is what grabs the image. Right now i'm just seeing a red X for each image. PHP Code: if ($private == 1) { header("Content-type: image/jpeg"); $im = imagecreatefromjpeg('/home/site1/private/' . $type . '/' . $mid . '-' . $iid . '.jpg'); imagecolorallocate($im, 255, 255, 255); imagejpeg($im); imagedestroy($im); }

Mysql Insert/Update Makes Apache Go Crazy
I run a wordpress blog with apache2+mysql5+php5 in a Debian vps with 1024mb ram (plus swap). When you read the website everything works quick and smooth, but when you have to add data to the database (edit posts, write posts, write comments) something weird happens. monitoring the system with the top and I see that, for example, as soon as an article has been posted (already got the "article posted" message in the page) the free ram goes suddenly down (some seconds) from 800mb to 0. Swapping starts and the website stops responding. in the meanwhile cpu "wa" goes high (90%++). Typing ps aux I can see that is not mysql process's fault, actually it seems more that it's apache to cause this ram hogging, in fact an apache restart brings back tons of free ram. this is my current my.cnf: Code: client] port= 3306 socket= /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock # Here is entries for some specific programs # The following values assume you have at least 32M ram # This was formally known as [safe_mysqld]. Exchange Server - POP 3 Connector To Direct Receipt Email Config
I have a 2003 SBS server with about 50 users on exchange. It is a standalone DC - all the users connect with 'profiles' and 'docs' on the server and use exchange thru outlook..when they leave the office they VPN in and exchange works like a charm. Problem is for a quick setup I've used the POP 3 connector and kept the emails hosted on my server - I want to get rid of the POP3 connector setup altogether and have mail delivered directly to the server. Can someone give me a walk thru of steps to do this - so far I have fgured out that I have to add the domain to the recipient policy - configure it properly and then setup each user to receive email for that username and it will just work.... I want to be sure and was hoping that someone who has done the same thing could point me to an accurate tutorial of sorts.

Apache VHosts Error
I've been having some trouble with Apache 2.0 recently. Whenever I load somewhere between 200 and 230 virtual hosts into Apache's config (as per my hosting control panel), Apache will fail to restart when the command "apache2ctl restart" is run. The command "/etc/init.d/apache2 restart" fails as well. All it does is signal all child processes of Apache to be terminated and fail to start again. Here's what the log has to say: Code: [Tue Nov 13 19:04:18 2007] [notice] SIGHUP received. Attempting to restart [Tue Nov 13 19:04:18 2007] [notice] seg fault or similar nasty error detected in the parent process Is it that Apache is too bloated with vhosts to restart or is it something else? FYI, I'm running Debian 3.1 (Sarge).

Major Apache 2.0.54 Error
I'm having a serious problem with Apache 2.0.54. I'm running Debian Sarge (3.1) and I cannot upgrade Apache (easily) so I am stuck using 2.0.54 (2.2+ are not supported on Sarge). I have been trying everything with config changes and different tweaks but Apache is giving me lots of trouble. Whenever I run "apache2ctl restart" Apache will crash and will not start. But when I run "apache2ctl start" Apache will run and in the log, it simply puts "[warn] pid file /var/run/apache2.pid overwritten -- Unclean shutdown of previous Apache run?". I get nothing else before or after I run those commands. Running "apache2ctl graceful" starts messing with it giving me "apache2 <defunct>" errors and "apache2ctl configtest" gives me nothing except "Syntax OK." Here is my "apache2.conf" file: Code: # Based upon the NCSA server configuration files originally by Rob McCool. # Changed extensively for the Debian package by Daniel Stone <daniel@sfarc.net> # and also by Thom May <thom@debian.org>. # ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's # configuration, error, and log files are kept. # # NOTE! If you intend to place this on an NFS (or otherwise network) # mounted filesystem then please read the LockFile documentation # (available at <URL:http://www.apache.org/docs/mod/core.html#lockfile>); # you will save yourself a lot of trouble. ServerRoot "/etc/apache2" # The LockFile directive sets the path to the lockfile used when Apache # is compiled with either USE_FCNTL_SERIALIZED_ACCEPT or # USE_FLOCK_SERIALIZED_ACCEPT. This directive should normally be left at # its default value. The main reason for changing it is if the logs # directory is NFS mounted, since the lockfile MUST BE STORED ON A LOCAL # DISK. The PID of the main server process is automatically appended to # the filename. LockFile /var/lock/apache2/accept.lock # PidFile: The file in which the server should record its process # identification number when it starts. PidFile /var/run/apache2.pid # Timeout: The number of seconds before receives and sends time out. POP Does Authenticate But IMAP Does!
I am setting up a VPS / Linux server, created an account, and set up an email account. However, when I attempt to access the email account via. pop3, either the email account or pw is not accepted. However, I can access the same email account via. IMAP. Also, I can telenet into the pop3 system, but not log into the account, and I can access the account via. WEBMAIL. I set up the account with WHM/CPanel. Is there some required setting to activate or setup the pop3 system?

Php Files Pop-up Sometimes
In the last couple of days my server/website has been acting a little strange and I can't recall doing anything to it in this time. 1) Now and again a normal PHP page will pop-up in the Firefox download manager. Usually the page is simply compiled and shown to the browser. 2) Images that really are present on the server sometimes randomly don't show in IE. Apache, Linux, Access Denied Error
I have apache, php, and mysql setup on CentOS 4.4. I have phpMyAdmin running perfectly in a folder in /var/www/html/phpMyAdmin. I can access phpMyAdmin and use it perfectly. I downloaded Cacti which is a server monitoring application written in php, nothing special. I untar the file and it creates a folder, I simply do a mv command from /home/sys/cacti to /etc/www/html/cacti. Then when I open my browser and attempt to access: [url]I am getting a Access Denied error. It makes no sense though, I have verified the permissions of the files and folders, all good. The group owner and owner are root, the files are all -rw-r--r-- and the folders are drwxr-xr-x.

Disabling POP And IMAP On CPanel
Disabling POP and IMAP on cPanel We're using Google Apps to handle all e-mail for the domain, so we have no need for POP and IMAP services running on our server (and I'm always getting e-mails from LFD that show bots are trying to connect with random passwords and such) so I want to disable them, but keep SMTP active since some scripts running on our server use it and I don't feel like rewriting them right now. I unchecked IMAP and POP in the WHM service manager to disable them, but it's still enabled and I'm able to connect and everything. How can I completely disable these 2 services?

No Emails Web Or Pop, Only One Domain
Only one domain suddenly out of the blue is not receiving emails via web or pop3. - deleted / recreated email - eximup forced - domain exists in trueuserdomains, localdomains but not in remotedomains (shouldn't) - restarted pop server Mail works fine on the various other domains on this box cpanel/centos What could be the cause? Site works fine, made no server edits. EXIM logs show this for example 2008-01-03 20:20:03 [1643] 1JAcAE-0000QS-Ly ** admin@domain.com F=<root@server.hostdomain.com> P=<root@server.hostdomain.com> R=lookuphost T=remote_smtp: SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<admin@domain.com>: host sentry.domainbank.com [64.85.73.28]: 553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1) .......

Exim Smtp-after-pop Authentication
I use Exim + Dovecot for my mail server. We can get mails through pop3 protocol without a problem, but when we try to send mails, exim does not permit relay. My passwords are stored in a mysql database for dovecot. Is it possible for exim to do authentication based on that? If it will be easier, i can create a text file with md5 passwords on it for my users.

WHM Server Time Does Not Update
In WHM I'm trying to sync the server time with the time server. It displays the new time but it doesn't actually apply the new time to the server. Also via ssh when I run rdate -s rdate.cpanel.net it says rdate: rdate: could not set system time: Operation not permitted I'm on a virtuozzo VPS.

Pop Services Fail During Specific Hours Daily
My POP services keep failed daily between 10am-4pm central time. Rather strange. However, sometimes some people can't access pop services, while others still can. I thought it was a SpamAssassin issue as it was overloading a little bit due to corrupt files. Fixed that, and problem persists. CentOS 4.x cPanel 11.x SpamAssassin 3.2.x
