I am wondering what grace period after the due date your dedicated server provider offers you before suspending your server.
Please let me know how many days before the due date your provider sends out your invoices , and after late how many days before they suspend your dedicated server. We are looking to amend our policy on the matter and would like to hear what others in the industry are doing.
Tere was a folder in /home/virtfs and I delete this folder and now when I try tologin to ssh after entering the password of ssh it shows me the below errors.

I have a big problem with my web hosts!
I had a domain registered with them, then I registered some more domains with them.
My original domain went down last Sunday and I checked the dns status which said it had gone into the redemption period (they are supposed to have an automatic renewal system).
I contacted them and after about 5 days, they got back to me saying there was a problem with the payment for the new domains, so they did not renew my original domain.
However, I did not receive any communication to say there was a problem with the payments and I even have a receipt from them to say I have paid! I also have multiple emails in my sent box to them following up the payments. They did respond to some of the emails, but they never mentioned payment issues.
I definitely do not want to lose my domain, but I urgently need some data from my site.
I know they back up their servers, so where do I stand on getting my data back?
I contacted the registration company (aitdomains), who said I need to get the hosting company to contact them to get the domain out of the redemption period (I was trying to do it myself so I could move the domain to a new hosting company). Without the hosts, it seems as though I cannot do anything.
I'm losing business every day my site is down.
Has anyone got any advice? Do they have the right to not renew one of my domains without any warning whatsoever, especially seeing as the actual issue is with a different domain? The domain with the actual issue is up and running by the way.
Form last 10 days am getting this error daily

Do you think that having a 30 day cancellation period for a server is a bit excessive? This seems like ploy so that they get an extra month out of you don't you think? Do you think we know whats going to happen, and plan a month ahead of time for it? Some of these providers have 30 day cancellation periods, which I think is absurd.

we have 3 server with Liquidweb that have problem to "resolve" a server locate in Italy
Email sent from server with LW to Italy server is not sent and stay in queue.
We try to force delivery and error is:

We have check, there aren't problem with port and firewall
All seesm ok, for all server
We have try to restart exim, reboot, ..
Emails don't start from 3 server LW to 1 in Italy
We have try to ping from server LW the Italian server and the problem is the same, found IP but 100% packet lost..
If we ping from 3 server LW a IP of server that is "over" the server IT is all ok
The problem seems only with single IP
So, we have try to send from server in Italy to 1 of 3 server under LW.. same problem

apparently the sysctl commands / config does not work for VPS's. any way to reduce the time_wait period? got nearly 900 connections in that state!
View 0 Replies View Relatedtime to write few words about the providers I've been working with. I was with Hetzner for about a year (2007-ish). Initially I've been reluctant a bit to go with them because of a high setup fee, but after exploring other options I've decided to give them a shot.
For those interested, all my correspondance with them was in English.
Ordering process was easy and painless. Initially I'd ordered DS3000 server, and in less than 24 hours I got login credentials for it. Due to some last-minute business changes I have made some calculations and realized that DS5000 would have fitted my needs better, and I asked whether it's possible to "upgrade" my account to DS5000 before any work has been done on DS3000. They politely replied I should cancel my old order within 14 days and I'll be given a full refund on "no questions asked" policy stipulated by a german trade law, I suppose, which gives you right to cancel (within 2 weeks) any contract that has been arranged remotely.
Now that felt good. The only catch is that the cancellation letter had to be in writing, so I had to find a fax machine from which it could be sent to their billing dept.
In the meantime I have ordered a DS5000 and again received a fully provisioned box in less than 24 hours. Few days after I received my first invoice, stating 83.19 EUR setup fee and 49.58 monthly recurring fee. Huh? Only then I've realized that their stated prices include VAT which can't be billed to non-EU residents. Excellent!
Now, to the service provided. Over a year long period, I only had two downtimes: one planned and one uplanned. The unplanned one was a half-hour long network outage. The planned downtime was due to the power lines work in the datacenter my box was in. It had been announced 2 weeks in advance, and the downtime was about 2 hours.
It is worth noting that all automated emails I've received from Hetzner were bilingual (German/English).
I had nothing but praise for their services/price ratio. Their network is excellent, and the hardware is top-notch. Keep in mind that my bandwidth requirements were low, as I have never used more than 500 GB/month.
To summarize:
For: excellent hardware deal, network (for European users), remote reboot and network rescue system provided free of charge
Against: if you need more than 1 TB/month, you should look elsewhere. KVM/IP charged extra.
I work for a small financial service provider and we are currently designing a new server side application for which we are now evaluating colo options. The service will employ direct connectivity to several exchanges (NYSE/Arca, ISE, Nasdaq, etc.). So, one point is the cost of connecting to other data centers.
Our bandwidth consumption is pretty low (<1Mbps), however we do require the lowest possible latencies.
To begin with, we only need about 6u but as most centers require a half rack min, we might do that just as well.
Also, we need 24/7 on-site support in case of emergencies. The facility should be very professional, with minimal down time and high security.
On my list to check out right now are:
Savvis Weehawken (NYSE primary facility)
Voxel
CRNC
Navisite
Which other centers in that area might be suited for our requirements? Also, what kind of cost are we going to be looking at?
Has anybody worked on similar projects and can give some additional insight?
I have a dedicated server with a provider. They have a notice period of 30 days, to cancel the server. The billing date of the server is 13th of every month.
I sent them the cancellation form on 30th of last month, asking them to terminate the server by 1st of next month (thereby 30 days notice). But they say that they will bill me on this 13th for another full month, and they'll cancel the server only on 13th of next month! WTF? So, the notice period becomes 43 days!
I have never experienced something like this with other providers I'm using but just wanted to know..

FAILReverse DNS entries for MX recordsERROR: The IP of one or more of your mail server(s) have no reverse DNS (PTR) entries/* (if you see "Timeout" below, it may mean that your DNS servers did not respond fast enough)*/. RFC1912 2.1 says you should have a reverse DNS for all your mail servers. It is strongly urged that you have them, as many mailservers will not accept mail from mailservers with no reverse DNS entry. You can double-check using the 'Reverse DNS Lookup' tool at the DNSstuff site if you recently changed your reverse DNS entry (it contacts your servers in real time; the reverse DNS lookups in the DNS report use our local caching DNS server). The problem MX records are:
22.130.197.82.in-addr.arpa [No reverse DNS entry (rcode: 3 ancount: 0) (check it)]
FAILAcceptance of postmaster addressERROR: One or more of your mailservers does not accept mail to postmaster@myminiaturepainting.com. Mailservers are required (RFC822 6.3, RFC1123 5.2.7, and RFC2821 4.5.1) to accept mail to postmaster.

I'm hosting my website on a shared hosting, and recently the ip 87.255.1.42 began sending DoS attacks to my website - there are constantly being sent queries to the starting page of my website, more than 400,000 queries/day.
It's not doing any significant damage but overloads the server every day, and I would like to know how to report this attack to any authority who can stop the attack.
I queried the RIPE database
db.ripe.net/whois?form_type=simple
I have run rkhunter and got the following report, I have checked everything and seems to be fine. Also, I have run rkhunter --update and didn't help. How can remove this bad messages? Do I need to reinstall the package?
/bin/dmesg [ BAD ]
/bin/env [ BAD ]
/bin/grep [ BAD ]
/bin/kill [ BAD ]
/bin/login [ BAD ]
I have a box (CentOS + Cpanel). build a script send me email report and keep it run hourly or daily?
Example i got this command:
Quote:
find / -name "*.anyext." -exec grep -i "something" {} ; -print
I want make a script run this command everyday and send me email about result from that command.
I regularly report spam that makes it through an RBL (sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org), SQLGrey, and an internal blacklist. I've noticed that the spam I get originates all over the place (though uu.net seems to be getting more popular). However, one host stands out when it comes to the spamvertised websites that are being sent - theplanet.com. In looking the past 30 days of spam reports 60% have advertised a site hosted on [url]
Do you report spam via spamcop? Who is your biggest sender and hoster?
Please understand that I filter hundreds of spam messages a day (about 560 yesterday). These are only the ones making it though.
I have been receiving unsolicited emails from a site which is hosted on DonHost servers in UK.
I have been receiving these emails for the last 3-4 days on my business email which is not on any list. I think the sender is complete amateur because he is using CC and I can see everyone's emails. They are mostly local companies and Government offices so they way this person gathered the email list is very questionable.
I contacted DonHost on www.donhost.co.uk and sent them an email to their Support but they haven't even replied to me.
If your website gets targeted by an attacker.
And it gets unbelievable volume of attack that brings it down.
You try to shift between hosts but it does not help.
The host would null-rout your traffic to maintain the integrity of his network.
What can you so?
You tried several technical solutions, it did not help.
Someone is determined to bring you down!
Is there any legal path that you can take?
Is there a legitimate hackers company that you can hire to look at the attack and find the source?
I have a spamcop report saying that my site was spamvertised.
If true (and I don't even know how to verify it), it was through no doing of my own.
Is there a way to deal with that?
My VPS is setup and now when I did a dnsreport for my site, it shows:
Number of nameservers
ERROR: You have 2 nameservers, but both are on the same IP! This is not a valid setup. You are required to have at least 2 nameservers, per RFC 1035 section 2.2.
Is this a big problem?
The report [url] also shows other failures. Are there any critical ones that I need to take care of? How do I do it?
I have been receivig a huge logwatch report, seems that logwatch is not parsing the /var/log/secure file, but sending the log entries instead of any resume of it. I got thousands of lines like
Cp-Wrap: Pushing "47 GETDISKUSED pvargas lights.com.co" to '/usr/local/cpanel/bin/eximadmin' for UID: 47 : 25 Time(s)
Cp-Wrap: Pushing "47 GETDISKUSED r.perez konecrans.com" to '/usr/local/cpanel/bin/eximadmin' for UID: 47 : 69 Time(s)
Cp-Wrap: Pushing "47 GETDISKUSED r.rodriguez konecrans.com" to '/usr/local/cpanel/bin/eximadmin' for UID: 47 : 114 Time(s)
I have upgraded to the most recent version of Logwatch with default configuration. Any ideas on what could be wrong?
