We are considering a VPS and was wondering what minimum RAM we should have. For cPanel, I ahve read one should start with 512 unless the VPS is fully tuned. Is there a general of thumb for Linux powered plesk based VPS's?
Has anyone put together a list of minimum packages required for a LAMP box on RHEL4?
After doing a so-called "minimal" server install, there are several packages I uninstall during the hardening process (anacron at autofs cups* gpm irda-utils isdn4k-utils nfs* pcmcia-cs portmap redhat-lsb xinetd yp-tools ypbind). While deploying a new box recently, I got to thinking about how many other packages included in the so-called "minimal" install aren't really necessary on a typical LAMP server. Obviously the answer is "it depends", but... what else are folks uninstalling?
Im trying to host a video sharing site. I have been through 2 hosts that told me they support the files that i need (i.e. flvtool2, mencoder, mplayer, ffmpeg, etc.) Come to find out that they dont. Now i am in need of a new host that supports this. I have researched different ones but to make a decision i need this answer:
For a video sharing site just starting out what is the recommended bandwidth, data transfer, and disk space to run this site? I just want to start small and i will expand if the growth permits it. I just dont want to jump in feet first not knowing the outcome.

i got plesk 8.0, and trying to update with the updater to more recent versions.
updating fails.
I tried with incremental updates (8.0 > 8.1 > 8.2 etc.), but it never works.
I haven't really touched the configuration since I got the server.
this is the error I'm getting:

I'm trying to install Plesk on an OpenVZ VE. OpenVZ node is running 2.6.22 kernel on CentOS5 64 bit. VPS is CentOS4 32 bit.
When running the autoinstaller I get the following error:

I've bought a windows vps, I'm very newbie with it. My host told me that asp.Net 2.0 is installed on my vps, though I may need to set my site to run using it within IIS.
I've trying to read the forums, google, etc. and I don't find where or what do I have to do to set the asp within IIS with plesk.
With Cpanel, when i setup a new webhosting account you can access the webspace at ns1.xxxxx.com/~username.. you can also connect to ftp and upload your site using this before propagation takes place so there is no downtime.
i have just started using plesk and have gone through all the pdf guides and cant find where it mentions how to access the webspace that i have setup through the ip address. im trying to look at the site and connect via dreamweaver.
can anyone assist me. i have tried ns1.xxxxx.com/~username and hoped it worked the same as cpanel but it doesnt seem to.
I am currently having problems performing FTP on my site. The web user section is under "root" and not under the virtual domain owner. How do I change the permissions back to the virtual domain owner in this instance?
My standard FTP for the domain only works if I SFTP, so does this mean the actual domain has gone under root aswell? how do I change this?
Also - I get this when trying to create even a directory in my virtual plesk account while logged in:
I just got plesk installed on my dedicated server and when I try and access the site it give me the following error
Code:

Now the server is running Windows Server 2003 Standard
I have been doing a bit of testing of MS SQL on Plesk, and I have a local database (MS SQL Standard 2005) and I can make a create script which references MDF files. However I'm not sure how I would import this into MS SQL? Whats the best way to export data from MS SQL and then import to a new server?
Version of MS SQL: Express 2005 Version of Plesk: 8.2
Does anyone know why you have to specify the Disk Space in both the Cleint area and also the Domain area within Plesk? Also for one client I have specified 250MB, but in the email user it says 'unlimited' any ideas?
My Plesk virtual server doesn't have spamassasin installed as standard. They quoted 200 pounds to have it installed.
I really know nothing of it's effectiveness - serverside. I only have about 10 domains installed, but those users do complain about spam - should I invest in it?
I am using Plesk 9.2 and Mailenable pro version, but every time plesk management services crash and than smtp "inbound" and "outbound" messages stop and i see huge que until i do not restart the mail services.
it only happens in business hours when my customers login to their plesk control panel and start working to add/delete/edit mail accounts/spam filters.
So i went to the windows event viewer and i see huge list of the following errors.

I'm having a small dilemma at the moment as I have never admined a server via SSH only, though following a well written Perfect Server guide might help. As the topic states, would you recommend using a control panel to manage a dedicated server (for one person), or would you recommend using SSH management and setting up the services there?
I have never tried to perform the latter option but would really like to as I'm a complete Linux noob Ok well maybe not complete, I know more than most people do, but I'm far less proficient than those who actually use and like the system on a daily basis.
