We're running two servers with identical configurations, both running Lighty 1.5.0 and PHP 5.2.4, however one of the servers is generating the following error in the PHP error log:
looks like the fastcgi-backend (/) terminated before it sent a FIN packet
We've been Googling all morning and found nothing so I was wondering if anyone perhaps has had the same problem or might know what we could do to fix it. It's quite strange as it's only one of the two servers which generates this error.

my support and sales mailbox almost get full of spam and advertise emails. i turned on spamassasin but it have not any effect..
i wondering to myself to delete support and sales mail account and create a new one with another spell ( for example something like supporting@website.com instead of support@website.com)
is there any way to get rid of these spams ?

I was just wondering what switch everyone would recommend for running a back-end network. We plan to push mainly backup and management traffic over this network. The idea is to have an NAS box connected at 1GBit/sec and all of the servers at 100Mbit/sec backing up to that.
We currently use Cisco Catalyst 2960's to connect the servers to the front-end so it would make sense to use 2960G's for the back-end to keep the overall management of things simplified. There is of course quite a big price difference between a standard 2960 and a 2960G.

Up till the last update Plesk was working correctly. After the latest update I can't send out mail in any form:
webmail, pop3, wordpress forms, etc.
This is the error message I get:
Command died with status 100: "/usr/bin/spamc".
Command output: Mail handler 'limit-out' said: REPLY:554:5.7.0
Your message could not be sent. The user spamfilter is not allowed to send email.
When I reverted back to the last snapshot before the update everything works fine again. But the automated update bot messes it all up again when it downloads the newer version.

I've a dedicated server at ThePlanet / Servermatrix for the past few years and for the most part the service has been okay. Uptime has been good and support used to be fairly swift.
Early wednesday morning the primary hard drive in my server started dying. Throughout the day various services kept going up and down and overall the entire server was very unstable. I didn't get much movement from ThePlanet's support team - they would reboot the server, SSH and other services would come back online, and so they would close the ticket.
Thirty minutes after the reboot the HD would switch to read-only and stuff would start dying. So they finally recommended that I replace the HD and do an OS reload. I said fine as I had a backup of all of the accounts on a 2nd hard drive.
Well it took until 6am this morning for the OS reload to finally be completed, but when it was done apache was *completely* screwed up. WHM was up and running but if you went to the server IP address in the browser you got an error.
It turns out that something really badly went wrong with the OS reload but it took them hours before they even admitted that there was something wrong that needed more action. It's now 10pm and while email and other services are up, apache is still nonexistent.
When I try to run easyapache it barely starts before it errors out with a bunch of missing dependencies. I cannot instal GD and a bunch of other items, and I keep getting error messages that SSL isn't installed either.

seems the yum repo being used has bad files:
Error: Missing Dependency: zlib = 1.2.3-0 is needed by package zlib-devel

--- -0 isn't a normal package id.
I can't even transfer my accounts off the server as that's also broken - I was going to all of the accounts off to my KnownHost VPS but I keep getting an authentication error ("sshcmdpermissiondeny") even though I'm definitely entering the correct root password.

Let me start off by saying I'm not here to trash TheNYNOC or anything of the sort, in fact they've been fairly pleasant to me sofar. But I'm wondering if anyone else is having problems with the recently advertised E7200 dedicated server special they've been advertising here at WHT?
When I first ordered my server a couple of weeks ago it was delayed an extra couple of days because they were having problems with the E7200 Core 2 Duos getting along with the motherboards they were using - no big deal, I know from experience that the E7200 is a great little C2D but it can be a real booger with certain motherboards. (Some boards still can't handle the new 45nm cores) But they finally got my server delivered and BOY was it FAST compared to my old Celeron 2.4ghz that I had at ExistHosting (now GoGax). I was one HAPPY camper.
Well tonight I come home from a party to dozens of emails from people saying half of my sites are down, email isn't responding, etc. Upon logging into the server I quickly discover that there is an apparent hardware failure of MASSIVE proportions going on. Half of the files on the server were missing, what was still there was corrupt, and almost every basic linux command resulted in a nasty I/O error.

Before Vim completelystopped working I also spotted some errors in /var/log/messages complaining about a couple of bad sectors on /dev/sda1 and /dev/sda2 so I suppose I could have just gotten a bad HDD... I dunno though something seems weird.
So I'm wondering, has anyone else with this particular server from TheNYNoc been having problems after a few weeks, or am I just unlucky? Hopefully it's just a bad drive and not some weird exotic problem with the E7200 + mobo combination. I don't fancy having to setup my server a THIRD time in the next few weeks. A second time is going to be bad enough.
Dang it, I just had everything perfect the way I like it too.

I inherited an Apache HTTP instance from a colleague. That's why I'm not deep into that stuff. My current scenario is the following: We are running several backend instances which are published to the internet via Apache HTTP Server which is configured as Reverse Proxy (RP). In the past there was only one port and one protocol to handle by the Apache HTTP (RP).
Now I have the following need. There has to be published a Web Service from one instance using two Ports with two protocols (HTTP and HTTPs). I'm not sure how to solve that need.
A solution I tried already was to change and add the variable DEF_BACKEND_PORT to DEF_BACKEND_PORT_1 and DEF_BACKEND_PORT_2 but it didn't worked.

Currently i am trying to install an Apache 2.4.3 as a caching reverse proxy. I would like to use memcached as my cache backend. I figured out there is a mod_socache_memcache, which from my understanding, should do exactly that(in combination with mod_cache_socache). So i compiled mod_cache_socache from trunk, loaded mod_cache, mod_cache_socache and mod_socache_memcache, but now i am stuck with the configuration. Here is what i tried:

where do i configure the path to my memcached instance? The reason for memcached as chaching backend, is that the machine is a windows machine, and from my understanding mod_cache_disk is not as efficient on a NTFS filesystem as it is on EXT3/4.
Another reason is, that later on there should be a possibility to put a second Reverse Proxy machine which shares the cache with the first one by using the same memcached instance (is that possible at all?).

Yesterday I tried to install Fail2Ban on centos 6.5.
Set up for 30 seconds due to, I don't have much domains on plesk.
Fail2Ban stopped working and failed really bad, and it stopped working.
Later on we tried to uninstall Fail2Ban through Add/remove components and we were stack on logging. (about 20 hours same thing)
Right now, add/remove components comes with an error message (Can't connect to backend. No such file or directory)...

to set up a serious of scheduled tasks. For example at 9:35:12 PM I would need a php script to run. And its very important that it run at the 12 second mark for the 35th minute. This seems like an application for a cronjob. Anyway, it looks like you can only have cronjobs run every minute, not seconds.

Today, I put a new server on our racks.
Problem: the machine crashes exactly every 10 minutes. The crash occurs with no entry on the logs and with 0.00 load. It is as if someone take out the current every 10 minutes.
Here are the specs:
- 2 CPU Intel Xeon 2.0
- 8 Gb RAM ECC
- 2 x 250 Gb HDs
This machine needs plenty of current. I wonder if I am not going over the rack power quota. May be there is a system to allow overages for then 10 minutes, then it cut back the current to the rack quota.

i have a small cluster (one web and one db) setup and i host a rather popular group of 4-5 sites that allow users to dynamicly create their own mobile chat communitys automaticly. each site gets its own mysql db created and populated automaticly.
this is all fine,
but in the last 24hours weird things have begun happening, previously i had the sql max_connections set to 500 and this was perfectly adquate for the demand but now even when i set the connection to 4000+ they are all maxxed out within 5-10 minutes, and mysql processlist shows thousands of unauthenticated user connections sitting at login status,
i have gone through the sites and all their mysql configs are fine so i cant see what the issue is.
server specs below
db server:
dual amd opteron 246
8GB ram
120gb hd(64gb free)
33gb swap (rarly used but their for emergencys)
centos 5 64bit.
direct 100mbit lan to web serv
only mysql,ssh and webmin running, no other apps installed
web server:
amd athlon 64 3800+
plesk 9.2.1
4gb ram
2x120gb hds
apache status onthe web server only shows 120ish http connections but the sql keeps climbing

I have an apache server on windows which I wanted to speed up using caching systems.
I tried installing squid, and I got it working with a basic example config. It seemed to work well, however under more heavy load I experienced some weird behaviour where network output is 0 for several seconds at the time, and all clients just hang in the wind and wait for a respons.
Remote to the server is working fine, so it's definitely a squid issue.. with only apache running the server is constantly sending out data, no halts there.
Any hints on what errors I should be looking for?

My site will wait for 30s almost everytime before loading any of the page itself.Specs of my install:
- DigitalOcean Droplet (VPS) with Ubuntu Server 12.10: 512 Ram and 20GB SSD (not even coming close to needing more RAM, still have 240MB free according to top)
- Wordpress 3.6.1
- 5 plugins: W3 Total Cache, Wordpress SEO by yoast, WP Better Security, WP Smush.it, and Redirection (problem occured before adding the last 2, I can't remember about the others)
- No traffic to speak of. I get maybe 10 uniques/day.
- Apache 2.2.22
- MySQL 5.5.32
I've optimized my site itself the best I can, minifying and combine js and css files, using the WP Smush. It plugin to compress images, serving jQuery from a CDN, but none of that worked the 30 second wait (though it did shave about 10 seconds off the load time after the wait for response).
I was using cloudflare and had to fiddle with the nameservers of my domain, but cloudflare didn't work at all and I switched the nameservers back to normal pointing DNS directly at my site to eliminate the obvious causes. If I disable Nginx and use "Apache Module" for PHP than the TTFB time is shorter but is not the prefered way. If I use "CGI" or "FASTCGI" without Nginx than the Page loading time is a little bit shorter but with Erros on the Website.

Since moving servers I've been plagued by constant disconnects whilst using FTP:
421 No transfer timeout (300 seconds): closing control connection
I've gone through Proftpd's forum and documentation numerous times to try and find a solution to this but have been unsuccessful so far.
Within proftpd's config file it's set at:
TimeoutLogin 120
TimeoutIdle 3600
TimeoutNoTransfer 3600
TimeoutStalled 3600
So I am unsure where it is getting the "300 seconds" from.
Even though the error states 300 seconds, this problem happens way before 300 seconds every time and has happened during the transfer of files (when the connection has been active and in use).
I've tried 3 different FTP clients and used the "Keep Alive" option in each and it has absolutely no effect.
I am unsure if APF is causing the problem, I can't see any problems in any of the server logs in relation to ftp.

It seems that since my latest update of 12.0.18. Now everytime I login to the Admin interface of plesk. I am prompted to relogin several times when browsing using file manager or clicking on domains or sitting idle for like 15 seconds.
It can do this up to 5 times in a 5 minute period or while not even being idle.

I am struggling to get this .htaccess file to work with lighttpd, i am not a coder so its very hard for me to fix it, hopefully if someone knows how can tell me how to write rewrite code that will get it working.
