Is there any preset criteria for it like Level 1 includes a, b & c, Level 2 includes d, e & f and level includes x, y & z?
I know the difference in General but, I wanted a specific answer.
Which virtualization technology is better? Hardware level or software level? My friend suggested me to go for software level virtualization. However, I am still concerned about the technology as to which I should choose?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a web hosting business that has been growing constantly for a couple of years, now I think it's time to move on and instead of leasing servers start with colocation and operating my own hardware, I'm in Mexico and there are no good deals here as there are in other countries, so I have several questions about your appreciation of where things are better for business, US or Canada:
Where is colo cheaper?
Where is hardware cheaper?
Where is personnel less costly?
Where is personnel better qualified?
Where is office space cheaper?
Where is electrical energy cheaper?
Where are more investment opportunities?
Where are taxes lower?
Where is living less costly?
I've been researching these on my own but still have several doubts, may be you find some of this question obvious however I'd still like to know your appreciation.
I found a very good deal at https://order.1and1.co.uk/xml/order/...f=Order-Tariff
they offer unmetered 100 Mbit connection for 50 pounds a month. I'm living in Canada would I be allowed to sign up for that plan?
Toronto Canada recommendations
I'm about at my end of dealing with Toronto providers but before we pull the plug on our T.O location, I figured I'd request a couple more recommendations.www.servertag.com - Used them in the past and had some issues with downtime / response times. Would rather not use them again.www.upscalehost.com - Amazing Toronto host but they're killing us by charging 95th percentile.
We're after a standard dedicated box (not celeron) with 1500-2000GB monthly limit.
Know of a company? Maybe a neighbour with a rack in 151?
Does anyone know any good canadian companies that would provide me with a server in canada?
View 14 Replies View RelatedWe have a need for a 1/4 or 1/2 rack of space somewhere in the Lower Mainland of BC, ideally in Vancouver but will consider other locations. Needs are pretty basic: 10-20RU of space, 1 20A power circuit, a single 100Mbps network drop, ~200GB of transfer.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been happy at site5. Due to the Patriot Act, the stricter Canadian PIPEDA law, and my Canadian residency, I am looking for a comparable Canadian host.
I have a number of domains. My research has not revealed any Canadian hosts that offer something comparable to the convenience of Site5's MultiSite. Looks like to operate multiple domains under a single account in Canada the administration is via subdomains or domain pointers rather than what MultiSite does. Is anyone aware of a Canadian host that offers MultiSite like functionality.
The company and all of its hardware must be in Canada so the data does not become subject to the laws of other jurisdictions.
Anyone know of a place to buy good servers at realistic prices in Canada?

I'm thinking of using a host in Canada for an E-Commerce store targeting USA customers. Does this matter?
Would I get a little more "love" from search engines if the site was hosted in the USA?
I am developing a website for a client, whose web host is BT Business Broadband. I had noticed that the FTP connection to their server was a but slow, and the http connection was not as fast as my reseller account here. I also noticed something else funny....
I have simple PHP script that greets users according to the time of day. It was saying Good Morning, when it is the afternoon. To test, I uploaded another script to output the current time of the server. It was 5 hours out!
I contacted BT to ask them why the time was wrong, and they said that it's because the server is not located in the UK, the company that manages the server is located in Canada!
Frankly I am dissapointed with BT and feel slightly ripped off on behalf of the client.
They pay them enough money to expect a fast service, and to have the server located in the same country, let alone the same continent! This also will affect their search engine results, as it is hosted on a foreign IP address.
Has anyone else heard about this about BT before?
Any idea who owns this data center that Scratch is offering space in?
www.scratchtelecom.com
It is very close to one of my people so it would be convenient. Does Scratch actually own this facility?
I was thinking of starting service provider of online backup service located in USA the data is stored in a vault (off site server)
Data replicated to another server at a another location.
Critical data is 128-bit encrypted, compressed, and then uploaded to a REMOTE server hosted by my company via Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) with enhanced security.
The client chooses what kind of encryption they want to use and they choose their Password (I don't have access to this info)
With out their password they can NOT restore their information back
Lose the password and the Data can not be restored its loss
I have no idea what the passwords are.
Now all the info will be stored on this server
The question that comes to mind if the USA Government wanted to look for any information located in this storage server
Can they force the clients to give them access to this data ?
Talking to someone at storage pipe.com
He was saying that in Canada this info is protected and can not accessed by law
He was saying a lot of company's because of this are looking for off site storage in Canada because of this issue.
So from what I can understand if the storage server is located in the USA if the Government wants to look at the files they will force the clients to provide them access to these fies
either by asking or by court order
But in Canada this not an option the files are protected by Law
Now a lawyer I am not be it seems that if the company has nothing to hide it will not be and issue.
But like I said I have no idea what people or company's are backing up.
It can be anything!
All I do is store the backup data.
All I know is the amount(size) of Data stored on the server.
The last thing I need is people banging on my door asking me to access these files.
Now if I had my server located in Canada they would be protected by law.?

I am looking for a hosting company based in Canada (preferably) or who has it's servers based in Canada, not in the U.S., who offers both shared hosting as well as dedicated hosting for easy upgrade. We just moved a domain to a Canadian host. We want to make sure that the domain is actually hosted in Canada, how can we go about doing that? I thought of doing a standard traceroute, but usually the bandwidth is coming from the US, so at what point is it considered "Canadian hosted"?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm a very small home-based start-up business that currently is having huge amounts of trouble with a webhost here in Vancouver. This webhost has been named recently on WHT as one to avoid. I never had a problem with them the whole 2 years that I only had a poster uploaded to this host. But as soon as I uploaded my first version of my site to this host, the problems came fast and furious. First it was not being able to log into the webmail to view any emails (which it should be known, I had only some test emails from my website forms). Then as of August 27, my site disappeared. I opened tickets. They closed them, saying problem solved. Problem was obviously not solved as I couldn't log onto Plesk, nor was my website visible to the world!
I didn't realize that website hosting was an unscrupulous business. Sigh. I've learned the hard way. I had paid a year in advance (in fact, think I was double billed to boot!). My .ca domain remains there currently as I search for a new webhost. I am loathe to mention the company although I'm sure a few can guess as I would like to recoup my domain as I have currently paid for advertising pointing to my website. All phone calls went unheeded (call centres in the US and elsewhere, even though these trained monkeys are told to say Vancouver).
Anyway, I have been lurking and reading and have been doing my due diligence; however, most reputable companies seem to be located back East. I have noted from all your posts that it would be better to have the data centre nearby.
I would like to support Canada; and in particular, Vancouver. Uptime and having a visible site is paramount to me...as is REAL technical support. I am not web-hosting savvy and I do not want to be taken advantage of again. I am interested in a shared web-hosting plan (I don't have any e-commerce or streaming video or any special needs...at the moment. My site isn't huge, but I can't check how much bandwidth or anything that I used because I can't log on...pretty minimal though).
I created my site from a Windows platform. Does this mean I need a Windows shared hosting plan?
Can anyone out there recommend a reputable HONEST Vancouver-based, Vancouver data centred webhost with very good technical support and excellent uptime?
