How To Stop Kiss Firewall With Cron

Nov 14, 2008

i have a problem where kiss firewall works fine and i can restart it etc without a problem, but when i reboot it locks me out for some reason.

i don't want to keep bothering my server provider asking him to turn off kiss when i reboot. so for testing purposes i wanted to make a cronjob to stopp kiss every 15 minutes.

however when i enter the following line using cronbtab -e:

0-59/15 * * * * /usr/local/sbin/kiss stop
i get this cron error:
/usr/local/sbin/kiss: line 69: ifconfig: command not found Could not determine MAIN_IP. Firewall script aborted!
but yet if i look at line 69 of kiss it is the following:
MAIN_IP=`ifconfig eth0 | grep "inet addr" | cut -d: -f2 | awk '{print $1}'`

however i can use the command "ifconfig eth0" and it works without error.

anyone got any ideas how i can stop kiss using cron?

Using KISS With SL Server

Mar 11, 2007

Softlayer's servers are using eth0 for private network and eth1 for public network, I'm having hard time to make KISS firewall to work with eth1 and eth0 both. I tried some modification by adding eth1 iptables rules in the script, it's running fine now but left two problems, one is I can't use SL's dns servers which are in their private network, seconds is my php scripts can't connect out to other servers as well.

Info About ENom.com

May 29, 2009

I made a couple of search on this forum but that did not fetch me what i exactly wish to know.

Obviously, the first question which has been asked millions of times
1. How good is their server performance?I have my site hosted from Godaddy.com. When i go for speed test of my site i always found the speed to be about 0.40 seconds while google and yahoo being 0.01 and 0.04 respectively.

2. I am need JAVA hosting. enom.com seems to offer every thing under one hosting plan which is really good for me.

3. I tried seeing their help files to find out how many times their TOMCAT restarts a day but i guess their help files are restricted to only registered user. Can some one please tell me is there a way to manually restart Tomact in enom.com?

4. The number of MySQL database is not important for me. What i am looking for is how much data can i save into each database. Godaddy.com offered 25 databases, for which i was pretty happy but latter on i figured out that the amount of data i can store is limited to 200 MB only. which is really sad!

I have added A record pointing enom web hosting, when I check the DNS status it shows,

Found NS record: ns1.[mydomain], was resolved to IP address by j.gtld-servers.net

Error fetching SOA from 000.000.000.000, request timed out. Probably DNS server is offline

how to configure Name server in Reseller club to point enom.

SSL Certificates From ENom

Sep 20, 2007

Anyone else having trouble getting them to work correctly? I do outsourced support for a few different hosts, as well as handle issues for ours, and there seems to be an unreasonable amount of eNom certificates failing to install correctly.

I'm not sure why they are bombing (module mismatch, etc.), but I was wondering if anyone has any insight on this. This definitely isn't an issue with how they are being installed. No other SSL Certificates that we deal with are having as many problems.

How To Hide Nameserver, Using ENom DNS Dns1.name-services.com

Jan 15, 2009

I have a dedicated server using one of my domain as the nameserver; basically ns1.mydomains.com / ns2.mydomains.com

Lately my sites are getting hacked and want to use DNS nameserver provided by the registrar, eNom to hide my domains. For example, if I use dns1.name-services.com/dns2.name-services.com or ns1.domaincontrol.com (GoDaddy), it will be harder for people to track of what domains I own, etc.

Once I change the nameservers to dns1.name-services.com, what do I need to do on the dedicated server/WHM side? A records, CNAME, MX records?

Cheapest SSL Certificate Suitable For E-Commerce From ENom

Jan 30, 2008

I've always been a seller that's primarily used PayPal only.. However, on my next online venture, we're stepping it up a grade and will be implementing a full CMS system, an e-commerce cart module (or platform in its entirety) and security through SSL certification.

I've taken a look at the SSL certificates offered by eNom and was wondering what you all thought would be the cheapest certificate that is suitable and ready for e-commerce that will process credit cards, etc.

Certainly the more expensive, I can assume is more feature and security laden, but just wanted to know what you all feel is a good balance of price, security and readiness for e-commerce.

Enom Is Using Porn Links And Sex Keywords On The Expired Domain Pages!!

My clients domain expired a couple days ago and his page now has links with the following keywords:

C*nt
Hairy P*ssy
Fat *ss
Big T*t
Round *ss
Monster D*ck
Big *ss T*t

I called Enom, and they're only response was, "Well why did you let that domain expire?"

I then asked for a supervisor and was told that one was not available.

Looks like its time to find a new domain reseller.

Do You Recommend A Software Firewall When Behind A Hardware Firewall

Dec 17, 2008

Do you recommend a software firewall when behind a hardware firewall?

All of our servers are behind Cisco ASA 5505 firewalls which we rent from Liquidweb. All are being managed correctly and setup to there optimal levels. With hardware firewalls firmly in place, do you still recommend a software firewall such as APF or IPTables (we're talking linux); in our opinion we see it as an extra administration overhead. If this is however untrue, we will change out thinking.

Firewall + NAT

Oct 24, 2009

I'm planning to place some firewalls in my network, but I'm afraid of something.

I have never used cisco pix, checkpoints and others.. We currently use custom made linux solutions for that

When we use these ready-to-go boxes, do we need to NAT the internal server IPs?

Is it possible to use these ready-to-go solutions with REAL IPs in the servers?

Does cPanel work well with NATed internal IPs? Or shall I have some trouble?

Do you think it's safer to with NATed, or it will be better to use real ips instead?

FTP Ban And Firewall

Jun 3, 2009

Im using the latest cPanel release. Using Pure-FTPD as the ftp server. I have CSF Firewall installed and configured and have also got [url]installed. on the dos deflate software ive set the ban limit to 250 connections.

But what my problem is that while downloading on ftp clients with internet that can download very fast that it will ban them. Ive kinda realised that it is to do with the DDos software but im unsure what i should do. Increase the limit of connections but that would mean that more minor Ddos attacks might get through so that would affect more clients. Or leave the limit at 250 and let clients get blocked for 20 minutes.

Or alternatively is there a way i can stop people getting banned via FTP completly. As i dont see that option on the Ddos or csf.

Though, I'm considering a Firewall OS based Solution like pfSense, m0n0wall, eBox, Endian Firewall, SmoothWall, etc.

There are so many options and I have no experience with none of this. My Requirements are:

Web based configuration
Clean Interface with graphic statistics
Pretty Secure
Good hardware support
Free usage
Simple configuration
Support for high bandwidth usage

I think OpenBSD is pretty secure, is there any OpenBSD Firewall OS solution with this requirements?

know of any hardware firewall (or suggest) which is under 300 USD and can protect around 5 servers with a total bandwidth capacity of 100 (+/-) Mbps. I am really no security expert

CSF Firewall

Apr 26, 2008

I was having attacks so I installed CSF firewall which did a great job. However on a few of my sites, specifically proxy ones, every second or third page you visit will be a 403 Forbidden error. After about 20-30 seconds, you can refresh and it goes away. I suspect CSF is causing this, because it just started to happen after I installed it. Is it thinking there are too many connections or too much bandwidth and its blocking me or other users just using the proxy? Is there a way to make it slightly more tolerant?
