Enom Can't Update The Glue Records For A Nameserver
Jan 5, 2008
I have a nameserver which recently had it's IP updated.
I've updated the A record but I also need to update the glue records.
Enom say they can't do this.
If this is true (and they weren't just fobbing me off they phone) how can I update the glue records?

I have a dedicated server using one of my domain as the nameserver; basically ns1.mydomains.com / ns2.mydomains.com
Lately my sites are getting hacked and want to use DNS nameserver provided by the registrar, eNom to hide my domains. For example, if I use dns1.name-services.com/dns2.name-services.com or ns1.domaincontrol.com (GoDaddy), it will be harder for people to track of what domains I own, etc.
Once I change the nameservers to dns1.name-services.com, what do I need to do on the dedicated server/WHM side? A records, CNAME, MX records?

I have got a domain on godaddy and I change the dns setting to point my server on 1and1.
When I get dns report from www.DNSreport.com there is a warning for Glue at parent nameservers
Does it matter?
I checked 1and1 and found this but I do not know if I can do. because my domain name is not registered throw 1and1
The help I found says
How to set glue records (required for name server registrations)
If your Name Server is in the same zone as your domain it is called a Glue Domain. A glue record is an A Record that specifies the address of the server.
For e.g if the NameServer(DNS) for domain-of-your-choice.com was ns.domain-of-your-choice.com then the NS record would look like this, but you will also need to have the following A record.
domain-of-your-choice.com NS ns.domain-of-your-choice.com
ns.domain-of-your-choice.com A 217.160.226.82
To do this, please create a subdomain "ns.domain-of-your-choice.com" and assign an IP Address to it. Once the IP Address has propogated you can assign "ns.domain-of-your-choice.com" as the DNS for your domain "domain-of-your-choice.com".

I have a domain name that I registered with 123-reg.co.uk, and have pointed the domain to my name servers of my host, but when I look at the dnsstuff report it comes up as not having any "Glue" for the name servers. 123-reg gives control to me to edit the domain name options (A, CNAME etc). Can anyone help me in resolving this. the url is mobcontracts.co.uk

I made a couple of search on this forum but that did not fetch me what i exactly wish to know.
Obviously, the first question which has been asked millions of times
1. How good is their server performance?I have my site hosted from Godaddy.com. When i go for speed test of my site i always found the speed to be about 0.40 seconds while google and yahoo being 0.01 and 0.04 respectively.
2. I am need JAVA hosting. enom.com seems to offer every thing under one hosting plan which is really good for me.
3. I tried seeing their help files to find out how many times their TOMCAT restarts a day but i guess their help files are restricted to only registered user. Can some one please tell me is there a way to manually restart Tomact in enom.com?
4. The number of MySQL database is not important for me. What i am looking for is how much data can i save into each database. Godaddy.com offered 25 databases, for which i was pretty happy but latter on i figured out that the amount of data i can store is limited to 200 MB only. which is really sad!

I have a reseller account with Reseller Club (for domain registration) and enom (for web hosting).
I have added A record pointing enom web hosting, when I check the DNS status it shows,
Found NS record: ns1.[mydomain], was resolved to IP address by j.gtld-servers.net
Error fetching SOA from 000.000.000.000, request timed out. Probably DNS server is offline
how to configure Name server in Reseller club to point enom.

Anyone else having trouble getting them to work correctly? I do outsourced support for a few different hosts, as well as handle issues for ours, and there seems to be an unreasonable amount of eNom certificates failing to install correctly.
I'm not sure why they are bombing (module mismatch, etc.), but I was wondering if anyone has any insight on this. This definitely isn't an issue with how they are being installed. No other SSL Certificates that we deal with are having as many problems.

i now want to use enoms hosted exchange service for this domain, but retain the website on my webspace.

I've always been a seller that's primarily used PayPal only.. However, on my next online venture, we're stepping it up a grade and will be implementing a full CMS system, an e-commerce cart module (or platform in its entirety) and security through SSL certification.
I've taken a look at the SSL certificates offered by eNom and was wondering what you all thought would be the cheapest certificate that is suitable and ready for e-commerce that will process credit cards, etc.
Certainly the more expensive, I can assume is more feature and security laden, but just wanted to know what you all feel is a good balance of price, security and readiness for e-commerce.

Has anyone else had this happen with Enom?
My clients domain expired a couple days ago and his page now has links with the following keywords:
C*nt
Hairy P*ssy
Fat *ss
Big T*t
Round *ss
Monster D*ck
Big *ss T*t
I called Enom, and they're only response was, "Well why did you let that domain expire?"
I then asked for a supervisor and was told that one was not available.
Looks like its time to find a new domain reseller.

1) I use DNSMadeEasy for a couple of my important domains so I can utilize their failover service.
2) I use my own nameservers for everyone else.
At my register (GoDaddy) I've added host entries to my domain (let's call it host.com) for ALL of my nameservers: DNSMadeEasy and mine. For example here are my host entries:
1) nsdme0.host.com = 55.55.55.55 (DNSMadeEasy)
2) nsdme1.host.com = 56.55.55.55 (DNSMadeEasy)
3) nsdme2.host.com = 57.55.55.55 (DNSMadeEasy)
4) nsdme3.host.com = 58.55.55.55 (DNSMadeEasy)
5) nsdme4.host.com = 59.55.55.55 (DNSMadeEasy)
6) ns1.host.com = 60.55.55.55 (mine)
7) ns2.host.com = 61.55.55.55 (mine)
At the register I've then configured host.com to use the first five nameservers for itself, the DNSMadeEasy nameservers.
For less critical sites that I host I simply point them to ns1.host.com and ns2.host.com, my nameservers.
Now, here's the twist. If I use dig to look up www.host.com I get:
[root@lax1 ~]# dig +trace www.host.com
; <<>> DiG 9.3.3rc2 <<>> +trace www.host.com

BUT, if I lookup the nameserver (ns1.host.com) I get:
Code:
[root@lax1 ~]# dig +trace ns1.host.com
; <<>> DiG 9.3.3rc2 <<>> +trace ns1.host.com

;; Received 241 bytes from 192.54.112.30#53(H.GTLD-SERVERS.net) in 151 ms
What I've realized is that the actual IP addresses for nameserver host entries come from a higher level server than my own, in this case H.GTLD-SERVERS.net. I guess this makes sense but I just hadn't realized it before. It looks like I don't even need to have record entries in my DNS records for the host nameservers.
Now for the question. Can I:
1) Remove my custom host nameserver entries from my register.
2) Add entries in my DNSMadeEasy records to specify the location of ns1.host.com and ns2.host.com.
3) Use the failover provided by DNSMadeEasy to also fail-over my DNS entries for my nameservers?
I know this would require one more hop if it works but it would allow me to provide failover ability to fifty domains without having to purchase the extra domains at DNSMadeEasy.

I have a domain(ex. mydomain.com) hosted on a shared windows server, I also have a dedicated Linux server with a different company.
What I would like to do is have the mail be handled by the Dedicated Linux Server(cPanel/WHM), while the site is running on the shared windows server.
I understand I would need to change the MX Records for the domain on the Windows Server to point to the dedicated server's mail server IP Address (mail.SERVER IP ADDRESS.com ?), but do I also have to create an account on the linux server to handle the mail (example forwarders/auto responders).
If that is the case, how do I tell it to take care of all the mail coming for the domain mydomain.com?

I have two hosting packages with 1and1: a shared hosting package and a new dedicated server. I am transferring my domain from the shared package to the dedicated server.
However, I have not yet initiated DNS propagation. Files, databases, FTP accounts, subdomains, cron jobs, etc. have all been added to the new server. The problem is, I'm not ready to setup the email accounts on the dedicated server. I have about 20 email accounts on my domain and I will have to show each user how to setup the new account with their email client of choice and transfer any important email to the new account using IMAP. Copying the mailboxes with SSH is not an option since I don't have root access to the shared server. Email is not stored on that server anyway (I think 1and1 uses perfora.net servers for load balancing email and databases). Plus, I'd rather handle all of the email stuff after propagation is completely finished.
So here's my question... How can I make mail sent to example.com go to 1and1's email server? I looked up my current MX records and they are mx00.1and1.com and mx01.1and1.com. I tried adding the following MX records to my server's DNS table (in Plesk):
Mail exchanger: mx00.1and1.com
Priority: 0
Mail exchanger: mx01.1and1.com
Priority: 5
(This one was already there)
Mail exchanger: mail.example.com (my domain)
Priority: 10
But when I send an email using SMTP on the new server, it is sent to a test inbox on the new server instead of the shared server. Is the MTA not looking at the DNS records on the same server or are they cached somewhere and I have to wait a while (it's already been several hours)?
Second question... I still want 1and1 to think that I'm hosting my domain on the shared hosting package so that my email accounts won't be deleted. For this reason, I can't transfer my domain name in the 1and1 control panel until the new email accounts are completely setup. Can I just point my registrar (Go Daddy) to ns.example.com (my domain) instead of ns.1and1.com? DNS service is running. I'm just afraid this may route any traffic within the 1and1 network to the shared server instead of the new one.
I probably haven't been very clear about everything but I'm still very new to server management.

I'm setting up my dns records for a backup mailserver and setting up another ns record in case of server / datacentre problems.
My question is, do I need to specify the ip address of the external hostname and the external namserver in the local dns record?
e.g mail.mydomaim.com in A **.***.**.**
then add mail.outside-domain.com in A **.***.**.**.
I dont think its necessary but want to double check.

DigBuddy is an email deliverability and MX monitoring service. Customers sign up and input all of the email addresses at their domain and our monitoring system will check to make sure that these email addresses are able to receive email by logging in and attempting to send an email without actually sending one. It also checks the DNS, SPF records and a bunch of other stuff so our clients can be assured that they are able to send and receive email to a variety of networks without issue.
We need to set up monitoring servers on a number of networks across a number of countries that can be used to send and receive email. Basically all we need is a VPS with 512mb of ram and 19 IP's. It also must have an unblocked SMTP port 25 and the IP's must have a neutral or better senderbase score. We also need to make sure that the IP's have proper forward and reverse DNS entries.

Have been reading around the net trying to figure out how to do this and arrived here. Thought I would see if someone could advise me on how to change some MX records.
At the moment there are 4 records :
A @ IP Address: xxx.xx.xxx.xx
A www IP Address: xxx.xx.xxx.xx
A mail IP Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
MX @ Host Name: xxx.domain.com
Priority : 10
I need to add two MX records. Do I delete the existing record?
and do I set them as MX @ Host Name or do I need to do something else?
I did manage to set some MX records a long time ago but have completely forgotten how to do it now

I have a domain registered with Dotster and my NameServers point to Verio who is my webhost. My MX Records at Verio point to Appriver who handles my email. I'd like to get Verio totally out of the picture and just host my site at Dotster and still keep the email at Appriver. However, I'm not quite sure the order in which to change the various settings.
Do I just change the Name Servers at Doster to point to Dotster instead of Verio and then use Dotster's DNS to point the MX Records to Appriver? Would I then disable the MX Records at Verio? What about propagation of these changes...would I lose email traffic?
Do I need to change the TTL? I'm really not sure about the order of the steps.

I have been considering upgrading to a dedicated or vps server for some time. In my research I ran across a comment on another forum that didn't seem correct and was hoping someone could clarify.
This person upgraded to dedicated and stated he failed to verify his mx records accuracy and was the reason his emails where not being sent out properly.
My question is, does upgrading from shared to dedicated require you to make some kind of change to your mx records? If so, what change needs to be made? I would think upgrading to dedicated would have no effect on your mx records for your email.
