What is the difference between the Intel 5000V, 5000X, and 5000P? I have done some research on this and depending on the manufacturer they can all be identical. The only difference that I noticed on certain boards was the amounts of memory it can handle. Is that it?

The X2 5000+ is around $8 more than the Dual Opteron 265 per month.

Right now we are getting total 5000 visitor/day on 5-6 of my websites.
We are currently using shared hosting but planning to get Dedicated server for better speed and dedicated IP's for each site.
All sites based on PHP/MySQL.
Our Budget is $125 but we have no idea what ideal configuration would be like P4 2.4Ghz or core 2 duo or athlon X2.
80 GB hard disk with 1000 GB data transfer is sufficient we are looking at iweb.com they have some budget server.
We also need Cpanel/WHM with fantastico.
guide us for Processor and RAM and ideal configuration we dont need any managed services we can handle our servers.

will a server with following specs :
Dual Xeon 2.8 Ghz 2 gb ram outperform a AMD x2 5000 with 2 Gb ram for apache processes only say for web proxies only.
Or will a Intel Xeon 3065 2.33GHz Conroe with 2 gig ram outperform both of them.
I need to know as my own proxies are getting lots of hits in range for 1k to 2k at times, and also in return good ads payout rate, so upgrade is the best option i see right now to keep speeds optimum.
We are hosting our software system which do calculation and file manipulation.
Now we have Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 and would like to get Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 to increase our system performance.
Also we have other choice, get Intel Xeon E5405 Harpertown 2.0GHz
to replace two above.
I think it is better to have one server box because one box easy to manage than two. Also Harpertown is much faster than these two together.

View 14 Replies View RelatedIn one of our racks, we now just have two Procurve (J4900B) switches, and run software firewalls on our CentOS servers. We are now looking towards a hardware firewall to ease managment and reduce load on our servers.
One of our suppliers reccomends the SSG140 from Juniper, and it seems to cover our needs. The SSG320 however seems to have more features, like layer3 routing. Could this device replace our Procurve switches, and act as a firewall/switch?
Anyone familiar with these devices and have some input on what to choose? How does the anti-ddos and bruteforce attack functions work out, do they hold up? Anyone tested the Deep Inpspection Signature module? Is it worth having for a ISP/Webhost?

I'm focusing in on the Cisco 3750G-24TS, which seems to cover all the bases I need from a hardware standpoint. What I'm looking for from this crowd is any information they can share about that switch from a service & reliability perspective, especially how Cisco has treated you when you run into problems with the devices.

Now the company I'm at moving to a new data center and offering me a box for the same price with a Intel P3.4.
As I understand I would move from a two core to a single core CPU.
In the first move letter they send me, they where saying I would get a CPU plus, plus 1 GB mem more.
I was wondering if any body may have some pdf manuals or such on Winchester sans.

I used so far Nortel switches like Nortel 4550T-PWR, recently few of them died and since they have only 1 year of warranty i'm looking into other options.
To Nortel is this Cisco comparable model Catalyst 3750 (p/n: WS-C3750-48TS-S) or this Catalyst 3560 48 10/100 + 4 SFP IPB Image(p/n: WS-C3560-48TS-S) ? If is some other model please let me know, and i got around 20 nortel switches 2xxx, 4xxx and 5xxx series and at at least once a year one dies is that normal? They are properly installed in server rooms so there is no overheat issue.
And how much warranty Cisco gives on their switches which are comparable to 4xxx and 5xxx series of Nortel.

I mean that for example C2Q Q6600 is equivalent for X3220 if I'm right.
Also, I guess those Servers will cost a lot more, not only because the processor is very costly but it also requires DDR3 RAM which is still nowadays quite expensive...
I recently came across the pricing of Intel Atom powered Dedicated Servers which are as low as $39 (not managed of course) but, the hard disk space and bandwidth bundled with it is tempting.
I currently host a vBulletin Forum of mine of a 512 MB VPS and it performs fine but, I was thinking whether it would be better on an Atom as most are bundled with 2 GB of RAMs.
Anyone can help me out here - whether am thinking in the right direction or am entirely wrong in thinking this?
