In Search For Host With Latest PHP/mySQL Versions.

Jul 16, 2007

I'm desperately trying to find a hosting service that offers Linux hosting with latest versions of php (5.2.x), mySQL (5.1) and maybe CVS or SVN?

Space or bandwidth are not an issue (500mb space will be more than I'll ever need)

This will mainly will be a development/testing place.
I really need a host that actually updates to latest versions of php/mysql/apache.
(not the next day the upgrade is out but some time soon at least >_<)

Things like CVS / SVN, SSH access and access to change your own php.ini settings are more than welcome but I could live without.

Host Search

May 3, 2009

I am the site admin of a large phpbb3 forum. currently we have something like 40k photos and 300MB DB with usually 20/30 users online at the same time top. Between 150-250GB/Month traffic. We are always expanding. I have been disappointed by our current host - lots of problems. I am hence looking for a new host. What do you recommend? We would not like to spend more than 200$ per year -

New Host Search

Oct 22, 2007

I'm sure you hear this often, but I'm on the search for a new hosting company. Earlier this year my products site switched to a db driven website with a forum. When I made the site change I had to change my hosting company I had for 3 years. Under suggestion for the webmaster I switched to midphase. When I did things started out good. Than came the down time. Each time they said I had to may users on the db. I started out at $10 a month. After several plan upgrades I'm at a $80 a month vps. I would be ok with the $80, but more times than not the site is sluggish even when the resources are not 1/3 of their capacities. After reading some of the threads on this site it seems a vps is not that good? The idea behind the vps sounded good to me. But I'm wondering if I should go back to a shared host. On a good day there may be about 30 people on the forum and about 30 people surfing the products.

Which Versions Of Apache And Mysql Can Take Advantage Of Multiple Cpus

May 15, 2007

Are there particular version of mysql or apache that are best suited when you want to utilize a multi-core/multi-cpu system? For example, we are currently using apache 1.3 and am not sure if it has the inherent ability to use multiple cpus to its benefit.

Or would the fact that it spawns child processes take advantage as the processes will be spawned on the different CPUs?

Is There A Way To Search Through MySQL Databases

Mar 9, 2007

I am running a dedicated server with Debian, and I installed a community sofware that has a lot of mySQL entries, many of which need to be changed to fit my needs

However, it is very hard to know exactly where each value I need to change is stored. Is there a way to search all database tables for a specific value?

For example, one thing that is stored in the database is the site's title displayed in the browser's title bar. The sofware does not give me the option to change it, so I have to find where it is located in the database and change it myself, but it would be extremely time comsuming to check all tables one by one for any occurences of the current title.

'MySQL Client Ran Out Of Memory' On A FullText Search

Sep 10, 2007

I'm trying to do a FULLTEXT search (1 field) on a ~3 gig table with ~650,000 rows. A lot of queries work fine and give results in seconds, but for queries on words that (I believe) occur very commonly in the database (e.g., this is a Italian database, the word 'italia' probably occurs a lot) take a while and then give the following errror:

#2008 - MySQL client ran out of memory

But the server has 8 gigs of RAM (and plenty of free hard disk space). Server is Linux with MySQL 4.0.27.

Here's my /etc/my.cnf file:
[mysqld]
set-variable = max_connections=1000
safe-show-database
log_slow_queries
long_query_time=5
max_allowed_packet=16M
ft_min_word_len=3

what I can do to make this work?

Change Host, Change Domain And Getting Search Engines Up To Speed

Feb 5, 2008

Has anyone helped clients transition from one domain to another? Maybe dissolving a partnership or renaming their company... so a new domain name has been registered and a new website created.

2 Issues:

#1 Using .htaccess 301 redirect
We used the following command line in their old website's htaccess file

Redirect 301 / [url]

The goal was to get people try to visit any page of their old website (i.e. OldWebsite.com/contact.html) redirected to their new website (i.e. NewWebsite.com/contact.html). Isn't that supposed to change the address bar's URL, too? For some reason, I visit their old site and I seem to be redirected to their new website but the address bar still has their old domain name? Something is going on???

#2 Having their new company name for 2 years now. People can enter her new company name in Google, MSN or Yahoo. Her new company name appears in the search results but has the old domain name associated with it. We are trying to get rid of any reference to that old domain name? What's the easiest way to do this? So what people see in search engines is:

New Company
Short Meta Description
www.OldDomain.com

What steps did I miss in this transition?

What steps do I have to take on their old website/old web server to control it's appearance on search engines and make sure people get to the new website?

Latest Version Of APF

Jun 4, 2008

I noticed when installing latest version of APF 0.9.6.3 over the previous version 0.9.6.2 it will import all the variable and ports settings from conf.apf and allow_hosts.rules files of the previous version. so there will be no need to edit or configure any thing any more when upgrading APF exept setting DEVEL_MODE to 0 and restart APF.

Can't Run PHP Stable With Versions Above 5.0.3

Apr 20, 2007

Windows 2003
IIS6
PHP 5.0.3 and PHP 5.2.1 running with the ISAPI dll
MySQL 5.1.11

I kind of have 2 problems, the first being the one in the thread title and the second is while running any version of php my main site experiences slowdowns and hangs.

For some reason whenever I try to install a new version of PHP I have major problems. I have tried several times when new versions come out. I just recently tried the newest, 5.2.1, which I want to try and use, I think there are performance improvements for IIS and windows platform in the new 5.x versions?

Anyway I can install 5.2.1 and get it running, and my sites load, but soon after my main site starts to hang, stops loading or loads extremely slow. I can't figure it out. I even tried using the exact same PHP.ini settings from my old working php install.

So everytime I am forced to go back to the latest version that I know works with my server/sites, 5.0.3 [url]

If I restart IIS the pages start loading fast again right after, even recycling the worker process that the site uses usualy makes the pages load normal again.

I tried setting the worker process to recycle every 60min and to use 2 web gardens. These changes havn't really had any affect for better or worse.

Downgrading back to PHP 5.0.3 seems to run a bit more stable, but even with this version I get these slowdowns now. I have been running my site(s) on this server for 3 years now and most of the time they have ran stable.

--------------------------------------------------------

I was sleeping this morning and recieved a text-message saying the site wasn't loading. So I wake up and the site indeed was pretty much not loading at all. I look at permon that I left running to see this: [url]

I give IIS a restart, which you can see above, then the levels go back to normal, here is a screen shot a couple minites later to what the "Current Connections" graph usualy looks like when the site loads fine. [url]

During this slowdown the CPU usage was not maxing out, was maybe averaging 60% and ram was 50%. I am getting a 2nd server soon to off-load the MySQL to it and have it dedicated for that. But i don't think that will help this current issue. Here is the system resources when the site is loading fine: [url]

I have around 40 or so other sites hosted on IIS and my main site "canadaka.net" which is purple on the top graph, is the only one that hangs or slowsdown. When this slowdown happens to this site, all the other sites on IIS, which are on a seperate worker process, continue to load fine.

I can't figure out why these slowdowns are happening.

Latest Review For NameCheap Hosting

Oct 22, 2008

I'm considering switching hosting to NameCheap to save some money over my current hosting plan. I've never had a problem with their registrar service. I did a search for reviews on their hosting service. There were some negative ones a few years back when they were selling PeopleHost hosting, but they apparently have their own hosting now.

I found a few posts with issues, but there always has to be a few. However, if 3 of 10 customers have problems, it's a lot different than if 3 of 10,000 customers have problems. Anyone have an idea of how many sites they host?

Also, what's the latest word from people using their hosting services? Any good? How about response time and up time?

Upgrade To Exim Latest Version

Jul 30, 2008

SecurityMetrics has determined that we are not COMPLIANT with the PCI scan validation requirement for our server.

The remote host is running a version of the Exim MTA which is vulnerable to several remote buffer overflows. Specifically, if either 'headers_check_syntax' or 'sender_verify = true' is in the exim.conf file, then a remote attacker may be able to execute a classic stack- based overflow and gain inappropriate access to the machine. *** If you are running checks with safe_checks enabled, this may be a false positive as only banners were used to assess the risk! *** It is known that Exim 3.35 and 4.32 are vulnerable. Solution: Upgrade to Exim latest version Risk Factor: High

HOW DO i Upgrade to Exim latest version? I am on WHM/Cpanel 11 (centos 5) I never did this before.

How To Solve Problems With Latest RPMs

Mar 12, 2007

I am trying to install some packages on my system and sometimes they depend on different, sometimes earlier, sometimes later versions of library packages on my system.

In that situation is it better to get the source for the package and recompile it with what you have on your system?

I am assuming that the dependent libraries the packages where compiled with were what was available on the package developer's system and do not necessarily contain new features lacking in the older versions.

Will recompling such packages from the source rpms fix the problems in most cases?

One particular group I persistently come across is the libcX.so libraries.

Best Host For ASP/PHP/mySQL

Feb 24, 2009

My current web host (SectorLink) has been acting flaky lately so I'm in the market for a My requirements are at least 6GB of space, the ability to run multiple websites on the same account (I'm currently at 7) and ASP, PHP, and mySQL capabilities. I'd also like the price to be competitive with what I'm currently paying ($11/month) though I'm willing to go up a bit.

I'm currently looking at 3 hosts, but I'm open to any suggestions. My short list right now includes:

HostGator - Not a Windows host, I know (though they're working on Windows plans), but they do offer ChiliSoft ASP capabilities. This host would give me unlimited space and domains for $14.95 per month.

AllReseller - This host would give me 50GB of space and unlimited domains for $11.95 a month.

Aspnix - This host would give me 10GB of space and 7 domains for $7.77 a month.
Has anyone used any of these hosts? What were your experiences with them? Could you recommend any other hosts? Side Question to any classic ASP developers out there: Have you used ChiliSoft ASP and, if so, how good is it at running scripts originally written for IIS?

Mysql And Ms Sql Host

Nov 7, 2007

I am trying to find a reliable host that can provide both mysql and ms sql for the same site. I know this is not how the site should be designed, and a complete redesign is in the works to streamline everything to mysql, but for now I need a host that can provide both. Our current host is absolutely horrible (seekdotnet.com) as there is an excessive amount of downtime (typically a few times/day for various periods of time). Thus far the only one I have been able to find is Mosso, but it seems a lot of people on here are anti-mosso, or have had problems with mosso.

Checking Versions Of Library/so Files

Apr 14, 2009

Different problem than my earlier thread:
[url]

I freely admit this is something that is self inflicted as I made the mistake of trying to install OpenSSH from source on my own despite me knowing that OpenSSL was kinda goofy (as in I had 0.9.8g and 0.9.8i libraries all over the place).

I know that I have OpenSSL 0.9.8k installed and working. PHP and Apache are both reporting that they are using the k release. I'm good there. However cURL and proftpd are still linking to the g release libraries and for the life of me, I cannot find where these buggers are. ld.so.conf is pointed at the newer libraries in /usr/local/lib and /usr/local/ssl/lib and I re-ran ldconfig to make sure.

Is there a way to verify a version of the library/so files because this is killing me. I'm kinda like Monk (USA TV) only instead of germs, I'm freaked out by lame libraries and includes.

edit: what I *think* is happening, based on the timestamps, is that cURL and proftpd are using the libraries in the /usr/lib64 directory instead of /usr/lib. What I don't get is when I make;make install, why things are only going into /usr/lib and /usr/local/lib and not into the /usr/lib64 directory despite my ./config stating that the libraries are being built for x86_64. Is it as simple as copying things over?
