I currently have a shared Windows hosting package, and my developer has recently requested access to IIS. However, according to the FAQ's of my hosting provider (1&1) this is only possible with a dedicated server - via Remote Desktop.
Is there a basic reason for IIS to be inaccessible on a shared package or is this a limitation of this particular hosting company?
i would just like to have your good opinion on something.... Im currently at a loss to what kind of hosting package to choose.
WebHostingBuzz's VPS BRONZE Web Hosting or
HostGator's ALUMINUM Reseller Hosting Package i have a bunch of sites and some of them are hosted at WebHostingBuzz. One of them just got suspended. Heres what the email said.... *************************************
we have found your account to consume more than its fair share of server CPU/Processor, Memory and Disk Bandwidth resources.
This results in sub-par server performance and is a violation of our Acceptable Usage Policy.
Your account appears to be resource intensive by nature and 9 times out of 10, this is down to the software and/or scripts used. *******************************
(note that the said account only has a PHPBB forum with about 20-30 active members) They suggested that i move up to a VPS.
So that's why im choosing between the two packages. One is their VPS and the other is a shared hosting.
Which European providers would you recommend for an 'all in one' hosting package... Something like clientexec, enom, directadmin, installatron, private nameservers and so on?
Variations doesn't matter that much, ie lxadmin or cPanel/fantastico, directi...
I decided to try hostgator , so please advice me Which package is the best for newbie to buy in hostgator? I am interested in cheap price and best server uptime.
Anyone know of any hosting service that provides a FULL Reseller Package on VPS, NOT SHARED.
ALL Reseller Packages I have found are on "shared hosting"? Why is that?
As a Reseller the most important thing to me for my clients is Isolation and Reliability. I don't want to subject myself or my clients to a shared hosting environment. Isn't this a reasonable request?
I have the budget, but just can't find what I'm looking for. And I don't think I'm asking for the extraordinary for a TRUE RESELLER Package.
Major Points I need: 1. Billing Management Software (WHMCS-clientExec-WHM.AutoPilot-I know I can get it myself, but why not offer it for Resellers?)
2. Merchant Account/Payment Gateway (I know I can get it myself but why not offer it for Resellers?)
3. At least 40gb Disk Space
4. At least 512 RAM burstable to 1024
5. Fantastico
6. RVSkin/RVSite Builder
7. Live Chat Support 24/7 (not the kind that says "leave us a message")
8. Zend and IonCube pre-installed
9. CPU share at least 30%
10. DoS protection, Firewall APF, IPTables, Server Hardening
11. Daily off server or off site backups
12. Zend and Ioncube installed
13. SSL (free install?)
14. cPanel/WHM (ALL the stuff that comes with it)
15. RoundCube webmail
16. Guaranteed 99.9% Uptime
If you cannot offer ALL of this on a VPS, please don't bother posting. I don't care too much for a bunch of "add-on" pricing either, can you just give me one price.
If you offer a Reseller Package without billing management software and a merchant account it is NOT a COMPLETE RESELLER PACKAGE. How am I supposed to sell hosting without these?
If you are deploying PHP and MySQL along with a site/application, how do you do it? Do you work with the individual components, or do you lean towards ready-made packages?
I use WAMP to develop my applications, and I find it a very simple yet powerful tool for deploying Apache, MySQL and PHP to Windows platforms. I've been looking at the Zend Server today too, which strikes me as very interesting, especially the full version.
Quite often here people suggest negotiating a custom package.
I did that several years back and it has survived a couple of host ownership changes but now it is not being honored by the latest owner.
The price went up without notice (other than a bigger invoice, received too close to the notice period to do anything), and key features I needed have been withdrawn.
I don't suppose I have much option but to move on.
What experience do others have of this?
And for those of you who sell, and maybe have taken on clients from a previous owner, what would your attitude to long term customers be?
to start a web design and hosting business and am in need of some hosting for it all...
I've looked at the reseller hosting at [url] which looks good, but they said that I cannot host a 'file distribution' web site. Because one of the sites I will be hosting is an eCommerce application that sells videos for download, I'm not sure whether this would be allowed. I read the SLA and I think it would be, as long as the bandwidth didn't exceed 25GB per month.
I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of other web hosting packages that might be suitable for everything I need (PHP4, PHP5, MySQL) that weren't too expensive. I don't really want to pay more than Ģ40 per month.
Ideally I'd like unlimited bandwidth and data transfer and web space, but if not, at least enough for a good number of sites!
I'm using Earthlink to host a website, but I think this question is valid for any host.
If you have a hosting account that's on a windows server/MS Windows based and want to switch to a Linux/Unix server account, how would you do this without any downtime?
I assume when they switch the account, all DNS related entries have to be updated so you won't be able to reach the website for a day or so.
With Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (RHEL 4), are updated packages made available, or are only security patches backported? Specifically I'm interested in vsftpd. Version 2.0.1 is included in the RHEL installation on a server I'm working on, but there is a bug fix in v2.0.4 that I'd like to get access to.
Is there an easy way for me to browse / search what packages are available for RHEL 4, preferably via website?
I got this new server with FDC today, I asked for CentOS 5 minimal package installation, when I got the server I checked with rpm -qa |wc -l and seeing 572 packages. I have other CentOS 5 servers running with only 220 packages installed. So I asked the tech to reinstall it but he says the install is as minimal as the default install will allow. it doesn't seem right to me,
ordering a dedicated server package, what else is there to expect as far as running or pointing your domain name to the servers IP? what else is needed to.. lets say get supercoolryan.com up and running.
Would the hosting company provide this setup for me or do i have to do it myself?
i might order windows server 2003 and install apache.
So I signed up for their $5.95 blog package this week. And since then, my site [url]has been down 3 times because of 500 server error. It takes them about an hour to fix it each time.
I recently, 3 days ago, paid for a advanced package for 3 months ($47.85 USD)
Since my debit card appears to be expired, I decided to transfer the money directly from paypal. So I did, and sent a ticket in their billing system with the transfer details.
Yet, I havenīt received any sort of response ever since.
Sent two emails regarding the situation in their billing system, and three more in their support service aswell.
Nothing has happened, I have asked for refund obviously, maybe they have some kind of problem right now. But that is no excuse for not replying whatsoever.
I am using CPanel. I just made customized features list and want to update all accounts of my reseller with that feature list. But problem is if I update package, this will update account space/bw, I am some account edit direct for space and bw etc. but thats account have same package name.
Is there any option available that update features list without changing current space + BW.
I ordered a domain from Name and a shared hosting package from Hawk Host. How do I set them up so they work together? I thought all I had to do was add the Hawk Host name servers to my Name account but that doesn't seem to be helping. I don't have any webpages up yet but I do have some files uploaded to be used as a redirect for a game server. The redirect isn't loading properly most of the time and when I type my domain name into a browser my directory won't show up either, just the parking page. I ordered both of these last week.
cd /usr/ports/sysadmin/freedt/ make && make install
It worked fine, but I realized that I actually don't want this installed, and I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to uninstall a package using ports!
I have dedicated server with cpanel/whm, Centos 5, today I got this error when I want to upgrade my Apache 2.0 to 2.2 I try to upgrading it and getting the flowing error. I have rebuild apache before 1 month and it was rebuild without any problem. Now I am getting this error.

I do not have resource limit enabled, should i enabled all the reseller settings with these words? for eg: Quota Modification (Warning: This will allow circumvention of account package limits if you are not using resource limits)?
I want to allow resellers to create any amount of accounts within the limit allocated to them, should i then enable or disable it?
I have found this forum through searching google for articles etc about the best/cheapest host for a small forum, and I think this is the best place to ask I have searched the many topics on this but none of them quite answer my question, so I apologise for repeating what may have already been done.
Anyway....
I currently use a free host (forumotion) and have become increasingly frustrated at not having total control over my forum, and not having access to the database.
I figure now will be a good time to move as the forum is only a couple of months old.
So what I am looking for is a basic hosting package including domain name, that can support phpbb version 3. Im looking for cheap and cheerful basically. I dont know enough about this kind of thing to elaborate, but here are my forum stats;
Number of posts 10781 Posts per day 121.13 Number of topics 625 Topics per day 7.02 Number of users 153 Users per day 1.72 Most users ever online 40 Stats generated on Tue Jul 08, 2008 2:31 am Avatar directory size 1016.43 KB
As you can see it is pretty small.....it may grow over the next couple of years but has a shelf life of 2010 as that is when the TV show finishes (its a Lost forum), and it may continue for a while after that but I dont expect it to go on and on and on
We have a lot of media posted, mainly youtube vids and jpeg, and we also have a small aracde, so i'm guessing I would need a lot of room there? Plus we have newsletters that would need to be hosted as online versions but they are just html documents.
I hope I have given enough information....oh budget wise I am looking at cheapest possible as I dont want to start charging members to fund the hosting costs.
I don't know if all of that can be done in a single cron separated by | or if it has to be in a script file the cron calls. I have never made/called a script before, so I need some help doing that.
When you do the pkgacct, can you specify the name, so you can built it with the date/time?
