i have started moving domains from Cpanel/whm server to my HSphere server that uses a new nameserver, but have come up against problem with the new NameServer.
When moving .biz .info i get error about nameserver not being resgistered, after doing some seaching it appears that some domain resgistrars (in this case 123reg) are starting to enforce a security feature whereby All registrars need the name server registered before you can point any domain name to the name server.
Diggin further i found this at stargate.com which where i have my HSphere service domain:
1.
Registering a Child Name Server as mentioned above is just the first step. The Child Name Server needs to be registered at the Registry to only serve as a non-authoritative Record should your Child Name Server not be resolvable in some extreme condition.
This Name Server would start working only after you have added an Address (A) Record or Canonical (CNAME) Record for this Name Server within the Zone for the domain name (of this Child Name Server) at your own DNS Server, thus binding the NS to the IP Address.
Examples
i. If you are running your own DNS Servers then you would need to add a Zone for the domain name your-domain-name.com and create an A Record like
ns1.your-domain-name.com. 38400 IN A 111.222.333.444
ii. If you wish to simply point your Name Servers to another Name Servers, you may add a CNAME Record to those (while ensuring that those Name Servers have an A Record within the Zone created for your Name Servers as well).
ns1.your-domain-name.com. 38400 IN CNAME ns1.service-provider.com
Also at ns1.service-provider.com there should be an Zone for your-domain-name.com with an A Record for ns1.your-domain-name.com, making it authoritative for resolving your-domain-name.com.
In most cases your ISP would have already created the above for you and you need not bother about the same.
My service domain, and one i am using for nameservers, HSphere dns settings looks like
Name TTL Class Type Data Action
cp.mydomain.net 86400 IN A 85.264.15.83 Click to delete
ns1.mydomain.net 86400 IN A 85.264.15.84 Click to delete
ns2.mydomain.net 86400 IN A 85.264.15.85 Click to delete
web.mydomain.net 86400 IN A 85.264.15.86 Click to delete
mail.mydomain.net 86400 IN A 85.264.15.87 Click to delete
mysql.mydomain.net 86400 IN A 85.264.15.88 Click to delete
So from what i tell i have furfilled critria?
I have to say i am a little confused over this!
I am thinking that maybe i have to make some changes at stargate.com or maybe get my co-lo provider to make changes?

Will the nameservers work if the nameservers are pointed to a parking page?
For example:
I need to change my nameservers to ns1.mywebhost.com and ns2.mywebhost.com
(nameservers are made up)
These nameservers are from my web hosting service provider. When I visit the nameservers, it shows up a parking page from a domain parking service (let's say NameDrive parking page)
Will the nameservers function correctly and will my websites work? I have this question because usually the nameservers that I use, they always point to a CP page or something like that rather than a parking page.

Is it a good idea to use different companies for registrar and web host?
and
Do web hosts add your site automatically to search engines? I ask because godaddy has something called Traffic Blazer and it says "Traffic Blazer helps get your Web site listed with Google®, Yahoo!®, MSN® and others." and they charge $27 for two years.. So I am wondering do you need this inorde for your website to be listed or something?

I found good domain available names and when I tried to register using some webhosting companies they were first shown as available and in the next step of registration they were claimed to be taken. It does not happen with "not so good" names.
I think it happened with whois.net and register.com
So it looks like there is no way to register a good name?
Even when checking whois may have your good domain name stolen.
Can someone comment this and share his/her experience.
Which regetar and whois companies can I use safely?

Server version: Apache/2.2.8 compiled by latest stable easyapache3
Default PHP Version (.php files) 5
PHP 5 Handler cgi
PHP 4 Handler none
Suexec on
Selected php5 handler to be CGI through WHM . Did not choose mod_suphp while compilation.
I have set register_globals off server-wide through WHMs php configuration editor. Now need to activate it for one account. I have tried :
# creating php.ini file at the required folder with register_globals on
# adding several combinations php_flag, php_admin_value, php_value etc with register_globals as seen from several posts here at the .htaccess file at the required folder.
# adding it to httpd.conf
Every time, the phpinfo page shows the loaded configuration file as /usr/local/lib/php.ini and register_globals is Off.

I've had this virtual server with Godaddy forever. I have about 52 websites on it. I was adding another and I walked through the registration process and forgot to click the save button. I then proceeded to the domain area of Godaddy to update the IP address. Now I can't add domains, delete dns settings, or update DNS settings without getting these kinds of messages:

So! Godaddy has now had me upgrade my disk space to another 10gig, I've tunneled in with ssh and ran memhog to increase memory because they are suggesting that I'm too low on RAM and want me to purchase another server, I can't just ugrade. I've updated all the packages in my simple control panel.
I finally got an email from them after begging for help, because $75 an hour is just too much for me!
This is what I got:
Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for contacting Server Support.
If this issue started after the modifications to the DNS of a domain, then it is likely that the DNS file or configuration has become corrupted. You can attempt to manually update or recreate the DNS file via SSH. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide assistance with the configuration of the server or modification of files. While you do have a lot of domain names added to the server, a backup of the content and reprovision of the server will reset the server to the default settings. However, this will remove all content and require that you re-add all domains and content once again.
I have backed up all my sites and databases, but to start all over again is a horrific thought. I can't imagine the nightmare.

Attacking multicore CPUs
[url]
[url]
"The Register reports that the world of current multi-core central processing units (CPUs) just entered is facing a serious threat. A security researcher at Cambridge disclosed a new class of vulnerabilities that takes advantage of concurrency to bypass security protections such as anti-virus software The attack is based on the assumption that the software that interacts with the kernel can be used without interference. The researcher, Robert Watson, showed that a careful written exploit can attack in the little timeframe when this happens, and literally change the "words" that they are exchanging. Even if some of these dark aspects of concurrency were already known, Watson proved that real attacks can be developed, and showed that developers have to fix their code. Fast..."

with this being my first website goddady's website tonight or there blog site plan seem pretty good as I do not know how to build a professional looking website nor do I have a knowledge of HTML. Are there other hosts that offer better services such as these?
Also I would want to register with 1&1 as to register privately is free but with godaddy it costs around $15 and I've heard of godaddy stealing persons domains when they haven't even expired yet i.e. familyAlbum.com?
Is it allowed for instance to register my domain name with 1&1 and host my site with godaddy?

Recently I had some dealings with Register.com for a friend of mine who needed to gain access to the account of a deceased family member in order to manage the web site for her company. She was getting nowhere with them and found their support staff to be less than helpful in the retrieval of her domain name and account.
So she called me up, knowing I work in the industry, and asked me to see if I could get any information out of Register which might aid in the retrieval of her web site. I obliged, and opened up a live support chat with Register seeking information. After a little bit of prying--it seems this is kind of an odd request--the technician told me that they needed to send me an email with the information from the correct department, and couldn't give me an ETA, just "as soon as possible."
Now, having worked in the industry for years, to me this might as well have meant "we'll have an email to you sometime in the next year or so." Surprisingly it took only a day and a half and I got all of the information I needed, and my friend is on her way to retrieving her account.
Success, right? Not entirely.
This afternoon I wake up to find an email from Register.com, Inc. in my inbox with the subject "Get a FREE domain from Register.com." Now, let me put this into perspective. I have the last couple years of my email account easily accessible. A search for Register.com turned up several marketing emails (which I must not have noticed prior to this and just thought of it as normal stuff I get), and the correspondence with them regarding the retrieval of my friend's domain. All of the marketing emails for Register have arrived in my inbox since I contacted them regarding the issue.
This leads me to believe that I was only just recently added to their list, say, I don't know, two weeks ago maybe?
So apparently they think it's funny to sign me up for their marketing email list simply for talking to their support staff. I can find no clear statement on their web site, anywhere, that says collecting my email for support purposes earns me the privilege of receiving this junk mail from them. I certainly never checked a box anywhere saying "yes, send me this crap!"
While they do offer an unsubscribe button (and I certainly have done so now), I'm still extremely unhappy about this incident and I feel as if this is kind of (ok, it is) a shady way to market your product to anybody.
So now through this little trick, I'd like to say that Register.com has lost whatever potential they had for my business in the future, and I would simply like to say that you may take this into consideration when contacting them regarding anything, ever.
If someone can find damning evidence (preferably in a clear statement where someone would read it) saying that I opted in to receive this anywhere on their site, I will happily retract this statement, otherwise, their emails to me regarding their product remain unsolicited and therefore, spam.

Will domains still function if they have differing nameservers at the registry from what they do on the server side? i.e. domain1.com pointing to ns1/2.example.com at the registry but on the server the DNS zone has it as ns1/2.example2.com, baring in mind both sets of nameservers are pointing at the same server.

I have purchased a reseller account from www.reseller.net (not real names) They provide me with ns1.reseller.net and ns2.reseller.net, as well as the two associated ip addresses. They tell me to use these 2 ip addresses to set up my own custom nameservers.
I want my own nameservers - ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com. Tech support at www.reseller.net tells me thay cannot help me. They tell me to go to the company where I purchased and manage the domain name www.mydomain.com.
I do, and find the control panel page where I -CREATE NAME SERVER-. This I do, and I use the above mentioned ip addresses. This seems to work. When I go back to this control panel page the next day, the entries I made are still there. Yet, I cannot "ping" my nameservers.
Now what? I have tried "google-ing" and not being a super-tech, I get lost. It appears that I must make some changes in my WHM, (I have a WHM...), but I have no access to any "Server" settings.
I have another reseller account with a totally different company, and when I asked them to set up custom nameservers, they just "did it" for me. Again, the hosting company was not related to the domain registering company.

I am experimenting with setting up my first unmanaged dedicated server.
I have directadmin as a cp.
I have 5 separate IP's available to me.
I went to my domain registrar and set up host as ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com using my first two IP's that are available.
My question now is what is the best way to use my three remaining IP's? Do I set them up as completely different domain nameservers ie. ns1.otherdomain.com etc.? Out of those three, I thought you need two IP's per nameserver domain? Is that wrong thinking?
I don't want any relationship shown in a whois dns info between the ips.

I just have a question on setting up Nameservers in WHM. Is it necessary to add an "A" entry to the name servers, and if so, do I need to do so on both nameservers, or just the first one?
ns1.mysite.com
ns2.mysite.com
What's the reason/ necessarily for adding a A entry to a nameserver, and can it be skipped?
