I am currently working on a File hosting site like sendspace, megaupload (Not that big, only a small site for college students use it). I am wondering which hosting company out there take high disk space and unlimited brandwidth.

i want to start a file hosting site like megaupload etc. So need a good bandwitch and storage for beggining and if it grows up then upgrade.
Would you recommend buying Dual Core Cpu?Or Pentium 4 for beggining?
going to be starting a file hosting site, i know that the main problem on these sort of sites for the owners is Bandwith and HD space. Just want to know some perhaps some advice on how to run this kind of business as far as the hosting part of it goes.
Do i just keep purchasing servers lets say at midphase for example they offer 10TB 250 Gigs of hdspace at 200 a month, so if i go over do i just keep purchasing servers and then load balance the site across all the servers i get? is that the basics ?
When sites start to consume massive amounts of bandwidth is their cheaper alternatives then just going with the normal BW that hosts offer, like working out deals with certain companies that specialize in giving BW deals, would CDN networks be an option?
I am planning on starting a file/image uploading website using a custom script I wrote.
I was wondering if anyone who has had experience with these kinds of sites before could give me some info on the bandwidth usage, disk space, ect. And what kind of package I would need. I was thinking of a VPS?

He will give the visitors two options:-
Free uploading max: 100 MB per file.

Also he asked which kind of file uploading script can handle this. with high fast upload/download speed

This downloads server is very low-end ( AMD Sempron 3000, 1 GB RAM, 120 GB HD, CentOS with lighttpd, no control panel, etc.) and is connected via a 100Mbit shared line with a 3300GB bandwidth limit. Originally, I had it on a 10Mbit dedicated unmetered line but I hoped that by upgrading to the 100Mbit, I'd get better burst speeds, faster transfers/downloads, and a bit more bandwidth in general. Well, this doesn't seem to be the case so I'm looking for a new server or file hosting service hopefully on a better and faster network.
Right now, I'm considering the following companies/services:
* Profithost.net - Decent Dedicated server with nice bandwidth
* Redhostservers.com - OK Dedicated server with awesome bandwidth
* Server4you.com - Great Dedicated server with good bandwidth

View 1 Replies View Relatedto be able to place a video on a website, but it's in VOB format. There are several files with that extension included with the movie. The movie has an intro where you can choose a from a menu to see various parts of it.
I believe this movie needs to be converted to a diferent format (MPEG3 or 4, or ?) to be used on the site, but haven't done this before. Ideally, I'd like to be able to have it in pieces, so the menu calls separate files allowing it to be downloaded and viewed only if they want that section as opposed to downloading the entire huge movie to see anything at all.
Can this movie be broken into parts as separate movies or clips?
What software can do this (I have Nero, which claims to be able to convert, but has nothign about splitting the movie)?
What format should be used (it's a demo movie for a product)?
I've never worked with movie files of any sort before, so any help you can offer would be most appreciated. Searching the web hasn't produced anything remotely useful, maybe because of incorrect search terms.

I have used Godaddy for years, but trying to access a SQL or MySQL db for development is complicated and pathetic. I have looked at many new Hosting CO's, including m6,1and1,ixwebhosting,************,hostmonster,bluehost, and others mentioned here; but All I can find is dozens of reviews, mostly bad and very few good, on about ANY company that I google for except the ($20+) monthly ones. I have found a site called reliablesite.net, that interests me. (I am non profit org paying out of my pocket). I have seen good reviews but a couple that are very 'bad' for me, such as no sites hosted on this provider, no phone number or where the company is at. Any insights on the provider. Well when it comes to anything that isn't windows hosting, I'm pretty knowledgeable about but when it comes to windows hosting I'm clueless about it as I pretty much never have any need for it. One of my business partner is looking to place there site on a more affordable hosting since there current rate is pretty high.
They have a simple site, which they are really not looking to get much traffic or use anymore then 2gigs of space. Probably needs at least one MS SQL Database and that's it. No more then 5gigs of bandwidth. All they want is something for show thats it, other then that they don't utilize the site for anything.

I have agreed to update website A (with url A) on host A. Both are rubbish.
I would like to build the new site with host B for various reasons (essentially I want / need more than one 50Mb database).
If I build the new site B on host B under a temporary URL, I'll then need to transfer the domain from host A to host B. So my questions are:
How easy is it to transfer url A to host B and to point to site B? What will happen to the approx. 70 email addresses on host A? Will I have to manually recreate them at host B and any emails stored on the server will be lost?
I own a few domains without websites; is it a good idea to show ads on them; do people actually earn anything by displaying ads on empty domains; my current hosting plan doesn't have quota for additional domains so how do I do that without buying a hosting.
