Good Hosting For Magento: Installation More Easy

Jun 12, 2008

I want to share my recent experience with the Magento installation.

I tried to install Magento on my basic Goddady Hosting but it failed because the zend and PHP version is too hold.

I tried as well to install on one of my other customer hosting (1and1.fr)

And after a long time of uploading all the files and configuring the .htaccess files, It failed when I was on the almost last step : database information.

So I finally found a better hosting solution for Magento which works good.

This is the link for the tutorial how to set up your Magento Store

Magento ECommerce Hosting

Jan 14, 2009

After a few threads on Web Hosting Talk, I have decided to go with Magento eCommerce CMS because it is powerful and I like it

The only thing I am looking for is a host that will support it and that will let me either upgrade to a VPS, or straight to a Dedicated Server (or maybe even a co-location).
Because I am a startup business, the costs need to be low (yes, I know good hosting doesn't come cheap and I know I need to put into consideration SSL).

1 major thing. It NEEDS to be in the UK.

I was chatting to one of Rackspace UKs live help support people and they priced their entry level server at "£255 - £355 per month", which being a startup is a bit of a hefty price.

So, how do you think I should start? Shared, VPS or straight to dedicated?
Also, what UK hosts do you recommend?

Replacement For Easy CGI Web Hosting

Dec 9, 2008

As many of you may have also experienced, Easy CGI went from being one of the best hosts (I had them for 7 years and they were great), to one of the worst. They migrated to new servers and literally destroyed our site, lost data, did a search and replace of our code (yes, this actually happened), and brought our sites down completely. After about 100 hours of on-line support, chat, phone calls, emails, etc. we have to move on.

The things that were great (prior to the debacle) about EasyCGI was the Windows hosting, fast performance (FTP access was great), and the controls that were available.
I'm finding it difficult to match what we used to have. I've tried GoDaddy's VPS packages and that was a complete bust due to FTP performance (would have literally taken us months to just upload our web site ... about 10 GB total).

I tried Network Solutions, but they are only Linux and although they told us they support ASP Upload, ASP Email, and a number of other controls, now tell us that those are not supported.

I've also tried APLUS.NET and 1AND1. Same peformance issues.

anyone have any recommendations for hosting that would meet these needs?

Windows (Virtual or Shared)
30 GB + disk space
Unlimited Email
Form Mailers (CDONTS or ASP Mail)
ASP / ASP.NET / AJAX
DSN with Microsoft Access databases
Ability to work with SQL Server (not MySQL) databases
ASP Upload (or similar) that can be coded in ASP to upload files
FAST PERFORMANCE
Unlimited FTP accounts (we create a folder and FTP account for each of our customers)
Unlimited (or very high) transfers monthly (~ 1000 GB/MO +)

Unknown Company "Easy Web Hosting" Taking Over My Web Sites

Aug 14, 2008

I just received two e-mails which may be some new kind of phishing scam. Full text at bottom. The message describes the beginnings of a "site upgrade" for my web sites, but it's not from the company that does my hosting.

I received this for two sites that I have hosted with EZpublishing. I'm having terrible problems with EZpublishing; they lost most of my databases last Friday, have failed to respond to a trouble ticket, and phone calls divert to an answering service. I've filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. They may be going out of business and selling their remaining customers to another provider. So a message regarding migration to another host isn't unexpected.

But the message below looks phony. First, they know what my domains are, but they don't apparently have access to any of my customer account information.

Second, "easywebpublishing.com" doesn't have a live web site at it, just a sort of "coming soon" page. The WHOIS info for the domain shows ownership by "Internet Names for Business". "megawebservers.com", from which the email originated, is sort of a skeletal web site that looks like a hosting provider, but doesn't have any real info. "megawebhosting.com" WHOIS info shows "Moniker Privacy Services", which usually indicates a bottom-feeder if not a scam.

Anyone else see anything like this? .....

Shared Hosting That Allows VMware Or Root Installation

Jun 15, 2008

I want to do 2-3 Deki Wiki installs, each on their own domain. This is the Deki Wiki install page that contains details about their installs:

http://wiki.mindtouch.com/Official_M...llation_Guides

I have HostGator reseller hosting now, and am very pleased with it. But, their setup does not allow me to install VMWare or root installations. This is the message I received from HostGator support:
Dear Customer,
We do not allow VMWare installation on our reseller servers, and do not support it (although it is allowed) on dedicated servers. In this case, you would need to go with the CentOS option, which is the operating system we run. However, according to the install information at http://wiki.mindtouch.com/Official_M...e_Installation we cannot allow this installation on our reseller servers.

This product requires mono and requires the installation of the deki wiki at the server root, neither of which we allow on reseller machines.

The only option to run Deki Wiki is to upgrade to a dedicated server solution.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

I am looking for a very low-cost way to do this, not a dedicated server. Please post if you know of a host. Cpanel is preferred but not required if you have something equally user-friendly. If you know of one who offers free installation of Deki Wiki, that would be an added plus. I am looking to host at least 2 and maybe more domains in the future.

Is there also a subforum where I can post an RFP and receive offers?

Good Hosting With Domain Name?

Oct 5, 2008

There is too many web hostings from the google search and i don't know which one is good.

My situation is i have a web page that is my portfolio. It is made by flash and php. Moreover, there is a blog too.(WordPress - php) Everything is ready but i am considering the web-hosting.

What i need is support php and mysql. If possible, i would like it support ASP.net too. (i think it is not too possible for both of them) And i don't really need huge web space...i think 1G is enough and the traffic will not too much too as it is private website.

My budge is limited and not too much for a month. I plan to spend less than US$10 per month to get a web-hosting. Also with a domain name too.

Host For Magento- Crucial Or The Planet

Jul 17, 2008

We are building a new shopping cart for our ecommerce site and plan to use magento. As I understand it magneto is and incredible cart but also a resource hog that doesn’t work well with $10-20 a month shared hosting.

We have narrowed it down to two options.

The $100 a month plan from crucial. Which is still shared but it is limited. I think they split the server below into ten virtual servers and each virtual server has 5 users. I like them because they seem to be interested in optimizing the server environment for use with magento .

[url]Quad Core Intel Xeon Harpertown 3.0 GHz
16 GB fully buffered DDR-2 RAM
Fully redundant RAID-10 disk array
1000 Mbps network port uplink switch

The other option is a fully dedicated server from the planet. . The people building our site recommend this option because it is dedicated.

They have a dedicated sever with the specs below for $147 with the promo code DX

Package name- Dual Xeon 2.8 - IDE
Harddrive-2 x 80 GB IDE/SATA HDD
RAM-2 GB
Bandwith-2500 GB

Apache Memory / Cpu Usage / Magento

Jul 31, 2014

I'm running a single Magento website with only around 150 products, and very low traffic, on a VPS with 2 Cores and 4GB of ram. However I am getting constant warning emails about high Apache Memory usage and High CPU usage.

The server and site were working fine, however since the server failed (Power cut on upgrade at the hosts end) and we rebuilt the website I'm getting these warnings, my host said it is just the website and the server needed upgrading... to which I did (server was a 1 core 2GB ram server). However since I've upgraded I'm still getting these warning emails.

Here is the latest one: URL...

Code:
4951 apache 20 0 441m 137m 6556 S 0.0 3.6 2:28.77 httpd
4952 apache 20 0 443m 139m 7168 S 0.0 3.6 2:43.72 httpd
7377 apache 20 0 358m 54m 6576 S 0.0 1.4 1:25.76 httpd
7692 apache 20 0 433m 129m 6588 S 0.0 3.4 1:20.64 httpd

[code]....

I'm really new to VPS's and plesk so I'm wondering what I can do to try and track down what is causing these high usage as I'm 100% certain the site was fine before. The server has default build both before and after the fail.

Server Information:
OSCentOS 6.5 (Final)
Panel version11.5.30 Update #47
2 Cores
4GB Ram

Are there any tools within plesk that I can use to see what is causing these issues? It's making the website load extremely slow.

I Need A Good Dedicated Hosting Company

Sep 27, 2008

I'm looking for a dedicated hosting server to store more than 800GB in video. This video will not be played back, this place is just to store and where people can download.

As far as I can tell my only solutions is dedicated, but if anyone can offer me a better solution please let me know. Before I had this videos on different servers but the company does not allow me to keep them for storage.

I need to know the top 3 hosting companies in the US, and why you like them.

I like aplus.net but after doing some research I found out that this company is a nightmare.

Please, I need help really fast! Thank you all in advanced for your suggestions.

Looking For Good Cheap ASP.NET Shared Hosting

Jan 17, 2009

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on good, cheap, ASP.NET web hosting companies preferably in the 5-7$/month range. I have a tiny site, but a lot of email, so having a few gigs of storage space would be nice. Bandwidth has never been an issue in the past, but the more the merrier. Support for the newest .NET stuff would be highly desirable (.NET 3.5, preferably win2008 servers, maybe a MSSQL db?)

Is A Pentium 4 3.0 GHz Good Enough For Hosting 2 VMWare VM's?

May 2, 2009

I have a DNS server in another datacenter and I'm considering moving my own website to that server, so we'll be online and can receive e-mails when the network is down.

We are considering making 2 virtual machines on that server. 1 for Secundary DNS and 1 for Plesk-hosting for the homepage. Both cannot be on the same server if we wanted to, because they conflict.

SuperMicro Server, Pentium 4 3.0 GHz, 3GB, 2x80GB RAID(1) for hosting 2 Virtual Machines on VMWare Server 2, CentOS 5. One of which with Plesk.

Can I expect a 100% uptime with low load? I am not planning to increase capacity requirements on the server as no additional sites/services with be hosted.

Good Hosting Customer Support

Oct 10, 2009

It's imperative for you to know that web host features does not just stop with Unilimited disk space and unlimited bandwidth. There are other very salient features to which some people looking for a host provider have ignore, it is CUSTOMER SUPPORT.

You will not value the importance of a good customer support until you start having problems which you want resolved in the shortest possible time. For some host providers this is like telling them to do the impossible.

It is sad that some of the so-called reputable host don't even have a ticket system not to talk of an on-line chat system where you can ask questions and receive answers in real time.

So, for those of you that are new to hosting or want to change your host, then you had better look for a host that offers good customer support either by Chat, ticket system or forum.

Good Australian LAMP Hosting

can anybody refer me good Australian LAMP (Linux/Unix-Apache-PHP-MySQL) hosting?

It should be not crazy expensive, with upgrade options (if project traffic grow), with good support, fast and on non-overcrowded server.

Ideally it also should pay me (as developer) commission for hosting the client's project.

And yes, it should be Australian both in term of company registration and physical location of servers.
