Gallery And Email Host

Apr 17, 2008

I am a photographer and am currently hosting my photos (not my domain) at Zenfolio. I am actually very satisfied with them and find their service highly customizable and professional. In addition I have a domain and a couple of email accounts with it, which I host at Runbox. I am not totally happy with it, since sometimes the attachments are not delivered, I am flooded with spam and am simply looking for more add-ons.

Since I started to look for a new email host I thought, whether there is a webhost, which could do both things, email and photo gallery hosting, well. In principal I look for a very reliable email hosting. My daily life depends on it. I wouldn't be happy with normal Squirrelmail, as in addition to plain email I would like to get a calendar and also online file storage folder for easy transfer of documents from one computer to the other. Since I send a lot of photos I need a minimum attachment size of 20MB. I look to set up 2 accounts with a minimum of 1GB of space.

From the online photo album I look for an easy (I do not have time for setting and running complex web pages), but very customizable solution. By this I mean that there is a possibility to create several albums, change their background color and password protect them. I prefer at leas 5GB of space, with a possibility to upgrade continuously.

At the moment I do not sell photos online, but a possibility to add PayPal link in the future might be an advantage.

I took a look around and so far came up with 2 providers. Network solutions and GoDaddy. The first one seems to have a nice email software and charges 10 USD for 25GB of space.

Not sure about the gallery soft though. Godaddy charges 4 USD for 10GB or 7USD for 150GB. I am not sure, whether email hosting is included there or I have to pay 20 USD extra per year. For the file folder I have to pay anyway 10 USD per year. Godaddy offers some kind of "Online Photo filer", but the demo does not look as neat as I am used to at Zenfolio, so I wonder, whether there are other solutions as well. Nevertheless, which of these providers would you choose.

4images Gallery Or Coppermine

Jan 16, 2008

My friend who is working for his BA intends to start a gallery site to display his own and some of his groupmates works.

Can you suggest what might be a better application for his site: 4images gallery or Coppermine? Both are offered in Marblehost.com plans that he has chosen to go with, but still deciding on the application isn't easy.

How To Keep Email On Current Host And Forward Http Traffic To New Host

Apr 11, 2008

I'm configuring a website for a client who has moved their web hosting to downtownhost, but is keeping their email hosting with their current provider. They do not want to configure an MX entry on DTH to autoforward email back to their current provider because they don't want their email to pass through DTH.

In order to do this, do I keep the nameserver entries on the current provider the same, and configure an http redirect to point to DTH? Or is there something else I should configure on the current provider?

H-sphere Host / Email Not Going To Own Domain

Nov 18, 2008

One of my domain is hosted with a company who has h-sphere. Last one year everything was smooth and I was very satisfied with them.

3 days ago I found some of the emails stopped sending to the recipients. When the visitors create an invoice they will get the invoice by email and I will get a copy too, but now I noticed that these emails are not going to all the mails for example, when a customer create an invoice it should go to customer@yahoo.com and me@mydomain.com. What I found is it is not coming to me@mydomain.com and if the customer has a gmail address then it is not going too. but if customers email address is customer@xyz.com then he is receiving it.

Web Host With No Limits On Sending Email

Dec 31, 2008

I currently have a shared hosting provider which I am happy with but I have come across the need to exceed their email sending limits (which is 20 emails per minute).

I am planning to run a one-day (might even be one-hour) online contest where my customers would fill out an online form where a php script inserts the form contents into a database and then sends a confirmation email to both my customer and two additional email addresses (Me and a partner).

I am expecting up to 100 forms a minute to be submitted (which would translate to 300 emails) so I am looking for a reliable solution to do this without spending more than $20/month. "Throttling" the emails is not an option as delivery is time-crucial.
Are there solutions out there that would handle this kind of scenario? Or perhaps solutions where I can keep my existing provider and use the new one just for scenarios such as this?

Bailing NPS Any Host Rec For Email Handling

Dec 30, 2008

I've been with NPSIS as a host for 8 years. They started out with 2 guys and their wives doing the billing. Many changes/expansions over the years and all went well till they sold out in 2007. I didn't even realize they sold it until recently when the problems kept increasing and the solutions didn't. It ended today when NPS threatened to turn me in for collections. I in turn will be filing BBB and Attorney General. They lost track of my payment for 2 years thru the school I teach at. I had a grant that paid for a domain name and some hosting for the 2 years for the kids to create their own sites. I called to confirm payment before the grant expired last spring. Now they suddenly say it was never paid. They did slip up and mention that they were in the process of converting to a new billing software package. Good Luck at turning the school in to collections.

Anyway, I am in the market for a new host. I have a couple of other accounts that will follow me. I have been searching for 2 days now and I am finding more bad hosts than good ones. I'm not looking for a McDonalds approach like godaddy or hostgator. I'd prefer something more than a 1 man operation. My typical approach with any new business is to google "NewBusinessName complaint" or "NewBusinessName sucks". This only works for places that have been in business for a year or more though. I am coming up with a lot of hosts on my "NOT" list and the few I find on the good list don't quite have what I want either.

My main concern for my primary account is email/span handling. I like to use horde and squirrelmail, and boxtrapper as part of cpanel. I can deal with something other than boxtrapper if it has white list/ response challenge. I am not sure what the next 8 years will bring as far as needs/changes are concerned but I want a host willing to change with the times. Dealing with spam is a big deal to me.

Any suggestions? Like I say I've been searching for 2 days so far and it seems like finding a needle in a hay stack. I'm still reading lots of info on this site but I am in a hurry to switch hosts.

EMail Only Host I Can Use Temporarily (3 Months Or So)

May 20, 2008

I have 7 different domains that need exactly one email address each (total 7) for just a few months, until I've researched and contracted with my host. I can do this one of two ways:

Get unlimited-domain full hosting that may not be the greatest quality but wins on a) pricing and b) the fact that I'll only need it for a few months.

OR

Get email-only hosting for these same 7 different domains that need exactly 7 email addresses . . . with a host that is a little more reliable but ends up costing the same as the above option because there is severely-limited storage required.

My base requirements are twofold:

1. I must be able to use my email client (software program) to collect all email

2. I need to be able to get in and change the addressee portion at will

This is what I've been able to do with my pobox account, but now I want to do it using (7 of) my own domains.

Moved To A New VPS But Can Still Send Email From Old Host

Apr 24, 2007

I recently moved a site from a hosting company to a VPS. I updated the name servers with the domain name registrar and the transfer went smoothly.

However one thing does have me puzzled. As I understand it (and correct me if I am wrong) my new hosting company are now the authority for my zone and should have a zone file which points my domain name at one of their IP addresses? However my previous host has a webbased email panel - if I log in to it I can still send email (but not recieve). This has confused me as I would have thought that my new ISP would have a zone file with an MX record for my email? How is this possible?

Trace If An Email Address Has Been Blocked By A Host?

Jan 31, 2005

Just wondering if there was a way to trace if an email has been blocked by a webhosts server.

My customer gets an automated email when he books online for Qantas Australia (Australia's biggest Airline Company). I have moved them from an Australian based web host to a US based server and host.

Since the host move, these emails no longer go through to the clients email address on the new hosts server.

I got Qantas to send the email through to me which is on a US server also but a different host to that of my client?? But they did not come through to me even.

I got Qantas to send it through to my personal email address (an Australian bigname ISP) which went through fine and I received it.

The auto generated email possibly could be coming through a 3rd party server so I was thinking maybe this server IP has been blocked for whatever reason (if 3rd party it could have been anyone) It is just strange that used to get them OK through the Australian server and still through my persoanl Australian ISP.

So is there a way to check and confirm and secondly if my suspicions are right would there be a process of trying to get the hosts to accept an email from Qantas as this customer doesnt want to have another email account.

Moving Reseller Acount To New Host - Want To Keep Email

Jul 16, 2009

We currently use a hosting company in the UK to host about 13 of our clients websites. The domains have been registered with many different companies to complicate things even more!

We do not host their email. The clients look after their email themselves but obviously use the same domain as the website in their email addresses.

We would now like to move these websites to a new hosting company which I have already set up. I've uploaded all the files and databases so all that's in place and seems to be working well.

Now the complicated part (for me anyway)!

I'm not sure what I need to do in order to change where the site is hosted from and NOT change anything about the clients email settings. I believe I do not need to change the DNS settings as this may disrupt the email settings which I don't want. Do I need to change only the IP address to the new server?

My new hosting plan is on a Virtual dedicated server if that's important.

DNS Email :: WARNING: One Or More Of Your Mailservers Is Claiming To Be A Host Other

Apr 3, 2008

I am setting up some website accounts on a new dedicated Linux/cPanel server that has 1 main (or shared IP) and 5 dedicated IP's. From what I understand.. all emails from any domain on the server will be routed through the Main IP of the server, even if the domain that is sending the mail is on one of the dedicated IP's.

I am trying to ensure that my DNS and mail configuration is setup in the most pristine manner possible, to ensure I have the highest email deliverability success as humanly possible (disregarding spf, domainkeys, etc.).

The most important website on this server is abcd.com. And I placed the abcd.com account on one of the dedicated IP addresses. So basically...

The Main (or Shared) IP of the server is 1.1.1.1

abcd.com is on the dedicated IP of 1.1.1.2

Looking at my zone record for abcd.com, I have the following (My host handles DNS so this is what my control panel reads):

Code:
@ A 1.1.1.2
mail A 1.1.1.2
ftp CNAME abcd.com.
www CNAME abcd.com.
@ MX mail.abcd.com.

This all seems pretty standard, but the problem I am seeing is that when I run a DNSreport on abcd.com, I am getting the following warning:

WARNING: One or more of your mailservers is claiming to be a host other than what it really is (the SMTP greeting should be a 3-digit code, followed by a space or a dash, then the host name). If your mailserver sends out E-mail using this domain in its EHLO or HELO, your E-mail might get blocked by anti-spam software.

mail.abcd.com claims to be host host.xyz.com [but that host is at 1.1.1.1, not 1.1.1.2].

How would I go about getting rid of this problem so it doesn't affect my email deliverability. It seems that any website I put on a dedicated IP is going to have this problem. So I am looking for any guidance or suggestions anyone may have on how to remedy this situation.

Looking For A Good, High Quality Email Host

Sep 5, 2008

I know this is the Web Hosting Forums; but I'm hoping you guys can help me out with a related problem:

I am looking for a good, high quality email host. My wishes/requirements:

- IMAP [required]
- SSL encryption [required]
- Good, server-side filtering/sorting [required]
- Procmail/Sieve [both pluses]
- Hosting on an OSS stack [a plus]
- No bandwidth limits [1]
- No message transfer limits [2]

[1] I have 350-400 Mb of email stored at the moment, and I take backups. I hear good things about Fastmail; but I fear their bandwidth limits wouldn't cut it, even at the Enhanced plan (three backups, and it'd be done, basically).

[2] I am not referring to attachment/message size limits. I mean caps on how many messages I send or receive in a given timeframe. If the limits are really high (in this, Fastmail is fine), then I don't mind. But I've seen some hosts that have pretty low ones. Subscribe to a couple mailing lists and...poof.

I currently am running an email server on a VPS (Postfix/Dovecot/Procmail). But if anyone has any suggestions, I'd really like to hear them.

Debugging Email Script Problems On Shared Host

Sep 13, 2008

how ya all debug email scripts that you create on a shared host when you don't have access to the sendmail/qmail/etc log files?

For example I have created two scripts. One uses the SwiftMailer PHP class and the other uses the PEAR class. The SwiftMailer one works just fine. The PEAR one does not and I have no clue as to why not.

My web hoster has graciously offered to let me look at the log file (I think) but that's only a temporary solution to the long term problem of debugging other email related scripts I might write in the future. Not to mention that I can't rely on every hoster allowing me to view such a thing (should I ever switch hosting companies).

Shared hosting is just fine for me at this point so switching to VPS or other hosting solutions is not neccessary (I'll just use the SwiftMailer class if it's the only one that will work but, it would be nice to know why the PEAR or other scripts may not work).

Correct Procedure For Migrating Email Accounts From One Host To Another

May 11, 2007

I have a client who will be pointing their domain to my reseller server. I have already setup the account on my server and made the appropriate DNS changes with their domain registrar - so the domain should be pointing to my server soon.

However, what is the normal procedure for migrating email accounts, without loosing mail?

When should they change email account settings?

Should they use their current settings until they get an error, or no longer receive mail, then change settings to match my server?

How is this normally done?

Host Recommendation (Req: PHP5, MySQL, CRON, Mass-Email)

any hosts that can provide the following:

PHP5.3 +
MySQL
CRON (to run daily/weekly scripts at a certain time)
Mass Email. The scripts will send emails to a number of users(between 10-100 at first, but may grow) and this will be done daily and weekly.

In the past, I've tended to go with SupaNames or FastHosts but looking at their solutions for this, it's not quite right for my requirements.

SSL Email And SMTP Error - WHM/cPanel - Retail Host Certificate

Apr 16, 2007

We have a few users that use SSL email and we decided to purchase a cheap single-root SSL cert over at namecheap for the host name so that it would end the "self-signed cert" whining.

We got the cert installed and it works great for WHM/cPanel and also works for SSL over IMAP and POP3, but the very first email anyone sends (SMTP) per day gives this warning (Outlook Express):

The server you are connected to is using a security certificate that could not be verified.
A certificate chain processed, but terminated in a root certificate which is not trusted by the trust provider.

It seems obvious that the cert used by the SMTP system is not the new one we installed.

We used WHM's SSL/TLS -> Change Server Certificates link to install the cert.

We then made sure that:

/usr/share/ssl/certs/host.domain.com.crt
/usr/share/ssl/private/host.domain.com.key
/etc/exim.crt
/etc/exim.key

...all contained the current cert or key as appropriate.

Just for grins, we even made sure:
/usr/local/cpanel/etc/cpanel.pem
...had the correct pair.

We restarted all the mail services and even restarted the whole server. (I know...Windows reaction...bad tech.)

Does anyone know of a stealth location where the SSL cert for SMTP should be updated?

WHM 10.8.0 cPanel 10.9.0-R139
CentOS 3.8 i686 - WHM X v3.1.0

Is There An "email Host" That Lets You Send Lots Of Emails

May 10, 2009

I have a list of a few thousands subscribers and want to use a joomla component to handle my sign ups and announcements. Problem is my web host only allows a certain amount of emails per hour, and a cap on emails per day. Are there any email hosts, meaning, a service I can sign up with that will allow me to send these emails? I don't want anything complex like aweber and constant contact. I just want the articles on my site's news section to become the actual announcement/newsletter. I thought about Feedburner, but they don't let you import your subscribers.. I wouldn't be sending announcements every day, but perhaps a couple of times per month..
