Future Hosting 18 Months Review
Mar 10, 2009
I signed up with Future Hosting in October 2007. I was looking for a VPS to transfer all my domains to. I chose Future Hosting among others I was considering. Back then, Future Hosting had an offer, so I ended up paying 10$ for the first month and I said I am not going to loose anything let me try for one month and then I can decide if I will stay or not.
So I chose the package I wanted and proceeded with the signup. A while later, I get my VPS setup and all is running. I then added more features to my VPS.
The first problem I faced, was a problem with PLESK, so I opened a support ticket and after exchanging few replies, the problem turned out to be from the domain. We used domain.com instead of x.domain.com so that was fixed pretty fast.
Pricing: 10/10
The first month I paid 10$, and they always got deals going on. Everyone says you get what you pay for, with Future Hosting you get more. Other companies might charge you for backup, but they came up with future protect which backup all customers data every two hours. In addition they have server doctor which takes care of automated tasks without the need of an administrator.
Speed: 10/10
I find Future Hosting very fast as opposed to other servers and I am very happy with that speed. I know it may differ from your location, but I am in Lebanon and I am very satisfied with the speed.
Uptime: 10/10
In 18 months I never had a single downtime. Even when they moved me from the old to new datacenter, I didn't notice any downtime. 100% uptime in 18 months.
Support: 9.8/10
I wanted to give them 10/10 but there were few issues with very few support tickets. Overall support was great, now they added server down option, so this will be dealt with directly I assume, but I don't think someone will use this feature much.
When you open a support ticket, once it is read, they notify you and tell you they are checking it and will get back to you soon. Sometimes the issue requires a senior admin to check it so they will forward it to the right person and also notify you of that. In those 18 months I never had any ticket unsolved.
I faced very few problems arising after requesting support on some issues. One of them happened twice and which were taken care of fast. After one of my tickets was solved, any website on my VPS I browse I get served the php file, which means, I am asked to save the file, the server doesn't compile the php file which was a bit scary. The second happened today, none of the domains could access webmail but this was solved fast also.
I am still waiting for a reply concerning the problem that caused this.
One thing worth mentioning and I am very happy of, is the help you get from Future Hosting support. A while back I asked to upgrade my php version to PHP5 and mySQL to mySQL5. After a while I get a reply that PHP version is updated to version 5.x.x but they couldn't update to mySQL5 because it was attached to plesk but when plesk released a new version supporting mySQL5 I reopened a ticket asking to be updated to mySQL5 and it's done. Since I am working on my own PHP Framework, I needed some modules installed on the VPS so I can use them. So I open a ticket and requested if imagemagick and ffmpeg could be installed on my VPS, an hour or two later I get a reply these were added. Now you know how happy I am with them. Other hosts might charge for all that.
One other thing. I faced some troubles with my CC for few months. So once I get that my CC was declined, I asked them to expend my billing grace period so I can fix it and they gladly did it. I don't know how many hosts would do that.
Overall: 9.95/10
I am very happy with Future Hosting and hoping to increase the number of servers with them once I release two of my applications. Two things I would recommend. First, introducing windows VPS. The second phone support.
If you are hesitating whether you go with Future Hosting or not, don't think about it, just go there read the TOS and then sign up.

The great, the good and the == well, not so good!
The GREAT!
Service is UNREAL! Keep in touch constantly!
The Good!
Speed, Uptime are good!
The Ugly!
site took a bit longer to get than stated, no big deal, but then no cpanel. After that, system dumps(appeared to be from tailwatchd) == 4 or more per hour, then support added a script to delete them every few minutes. then no Email-- no Exim, courier--NADA. Sent in a ticket, got exim working, no courier so went to Dovecot(worked). Was unmanaged! Never switched anything to it, so didnt lose anything.

*I know there is another thread about Future Hosting but since I am starting my own review, I am not sure if it is best to gatecrash into that review or start my own. I guess it is better to start a fresh one so I don't break any rules. *
Just a little background, I had been renting Dedicated Servers for the last 6 odd years and last year since there were some changes in my business framework, I decided to move the few sites I have to a Reseller's account and a few shared hosting accounts to cater for my needs. That was back in October 2006.
Things were doing quite well but the server in which my reseller's account was hosted was a little shaky with several downtimes, heavy-loads and thus causes the sites to be relatively slow the last few weeks. It was intermittent so I thought I ride out the annual contract (I should not have signed up for a year but that is another story altogether).
However, being who I am, I like to pre-plan 6 months ahead of time. I missed the time when I was using dedicated servers as I like the control it gives me. The Reseller's and Shared Accounts seems rather restrictive in the controls but I guess you get what you paid for. Basically, having to rely quite extensively on the tech support. The Tech Support at the Reseller's account was quite responsive but the hardware did not really give them much justice.
In any case, I thought of bringing forward the migration period because of late the downtime was hurting my business and my clients. I needed very much to think of my customers for without them, I would not be anything today.
The plan was to go with a dedicated server as I did not quite have a good experience with a VPS in the past. I had tried Servint years ago but things were a lot slower than a shared account, I guess it was probably because it was equipped with 128mb RAM and that was when they first started their VPS Services. That experience did not go well with me.
However, reading about the Future Hosting review and looking at what they have to offer, I thought I give them a try, besides there is a 30 days money back guarantee so what do I have to lose.
I saw their offer in the For Sale section and dedicated to ask a few questions and Vik responses were quite professional and quick and I decided to sign up, well almost immediately. He approved the sale and everything was set in motion.
In about 3 hours, I have my sparkling VPS with 512mb which I started working on. It was indeed quite fast, which exceeded my expectations. In fact, from the get-go, these people know what they are doing. I like the fact that they have a Business Continuance Protection as an option which protects me from the bandwidth from DDoS. DDoS is a situation in which I never want to be in but this $2.95/mth gives me a peace of mind.
I like also the fact that they provided a managed service which I sure did make use of it. Although I know something about managing a server and did some of the lock-down, I am pleased that there is a team willing to help me when I landed in some trouble (a few times actually). I had them handle some of the security setup which I did not get to do on my own.
There was the time when I had a SSL certificate set up for one of my site but the https access did not work. I could not figure out what to do and contacted them and they helped me resolved the issue without question. It worked for a while until I messed things up again and they got it resolved again and told me what was the issue when I asked them what they have done. Although, support is not there at the snap of the finger, they have been quite responsive and were helpful.
I love the control the HSPComplete and Virtuozzo Control Panel provided in managing my VPS account. I finally feel that I have arrived.
Like I said at the offset, these guys thought about everything. I love the fact that they provided the free VPS Snapshot which allowed me to create an image backup of my entire VPS which I can restore with a touch of a button. This feature would probably cost me a lot more on a dedicated server and it is free here.
The other thing is that the account came with 3 IP addresses and I found that all came from different C Class which is very neat. Most places will just give you running IPs which may be an issue for some.
I got an additional IP through their HSPComplete interface and it was assigned to me almost instantly.
I have to say that although I have not been there more than 4 days, those were very pleasant 4 days. In fact, I love them so much that I have abandoned the idea of getting a dedicated server. Not only do I save on the money, I got a great service and support.
What more can I say. No regrets here.
*Mod, if you need evidence, the two sites on my signature are hosted on my Future Hosting VPS account. *

Even though this is a 2 year review of Future Hosting, I would like to back up a little bit more. Lets go all the way back to April of 2006 when I opened my first site.
Between April 2006 and March of 2007 I tried about 5 different hosting companies. I changed companies because I did not believe that 15 people on my forum at one time was "High Usage". And that was the story that I was told over and over by those "other" hosting companies. That with 15 people on my forum at one time, I had reached the limit of my hosting plan.
In March of 2007 I had enough. After changing host around 5 times, and getting the same line of bull from each one, I decided to give running a website one more try.
After reading the reviews here on WHT, I decided to go with Future Hosting. When my forum was setup and people started visiting, something strange happened. My forum could support more then 15 people at a time. To be honest, I was amazed. Here was Future Hosting, and my forum with 20, 30 and even 50 people on it at a time. This makes me wonder what was worng with those other hosting plans I had payed for.
As my forum grew, so did my server needs. Over the past 2 years I went from the most basic VPS plan that Future Hosting had, all the way to the most expensive.
Instead of 15 people at a time, now my forum has 350 - 400 people at a time, gets around 2.9 million page views a month, has over 589,000 post, 48,421 threads and 14,719 members. Over the past 2 years Future Hosting has provided my forum with the resources and tech support that it needed to grow.
Today was a big step for my forum and my relationship with Future Hosting, because I just leased my first dedicated server from them.
To sum up my 2 year review of Future Hosting:
I am a very happy customer.
I highly recommend Future Hosting to anyone looking for a Virtual Private Server (VPS) solution.
Maybe in another 2 years I will be back here posting a review of their dedicated server.

I thought I should share my feelings on FutureHosting even though we have only been on their server for 48 hours.
Background
---------
I started having my sites hosted back in 1990's and have had about a dozen hosts since then. (Started with Pair.net when they were like maybe 2 of the 3 hosts on the planet, LOL) 90% of the time, I have needed to find a host due to my former host being acquired or some other non-technical reason. So you could say that I tend to stick with a host for as long as possible. I have moved from shared hosting, to reseller hosting, to dedicated hosting, and now to VPS hosting. I started my VPS adventures with PowerVPS.
This was about 3 years ago if I recall. Like most here, I did a great deal of homework, read and lurked. PowerVPS was in my top 5 final list. I selected PowerVPS and was extremely happy to put the headaches of dedicated servers behind me. For two years the VPS was very stable. That changed about one year ago. I was told I was hitting resource max and asked to upgrade. Oddly, my sites' traffic was about 1/2 of what it was in the first two years. ie my VPS should have less resources needed. PowerVPS moved many of its legacy VPS users to new hardware. I don't recall they informed me, though they said they did. They did inform me that they would make a decision on the remaining legacy users in terms of billing promotions -- they never did. Downtime continued. I began to notice that their newer techs did not share the same ability of communication and skills as past/founding techs. Answers were curt and became more and more unhelpful. We have all seen this pattern before where a host starts out so well (2 or 3 guys/gals), and as it grows, they add remote staff that just don't have the same passion of the founders, or language skills. (Disclaimer: English isn't my native, so no excuse for lack of communications in business IMHO).
Thus, I began my search for a new VPS here. FutureHosting was in my top 5 along with KnownHost, SolarVPS, Jaguar. Actually, I rated them 3 or 4 in my final list. I tested all of these hosts' sales responses and went through the shopping process just before clicking 'sign-me up'. (I work in Ecommerce so I like to see that process). SolarVPS answered my questions the best. KnownHost a close second. I am sure there are a few other good VPS companies like ServInt, Lunar and HostNexus, but their prices just don't reflect the marketplace IMHO.
Due to my needs and budget though, I selected FutureHosting as they seem to offer the best balance -- competitiveness and support.
FutureHosting - 48 hours
-------------------
As my data was on PowerVPS with Plesk, selecting another provider with Plesk was important. Actually, I have always been a Plesk fan having used all the CPs (I just wish they would stop trying to offer 1,000 products and spin off a CP-only company like they were.)
FutureHosting (FH) started the migration on Saturday night. Sunday morning I notice that all sites hadn't been moved. I checked my inbox and read the many emails awaiting me. It seemed Plesk was having a hard time using its server migration tool (typical of Plesk that they introduce a feature that doesn't work 100% of the time.) FH informed me they would migrate my VPS (domains, etc) manually.
While this was going on, another tech worked on some requests I had related to SSH, root access, etc.
What I found in the last 48 hours was what I had hoped for... Techs that received my tickets, and replies that stated WHAT they were doing. I felt informed during the entire process. In some cases, CLEAR explanations were given. In some cases, SIMPLE answers were given -- where I couldn't grasp the why. The level of service was what I experienced in my first year with PowerVPS. And now, a really important point -- EVERY tech that worked on my tickets displayed the same level of competence. All too often, I have felt in the past that the level and ability of techs ranged so much. This became more apparent as of late on PowerVPS (are they contracting out support? No idea.) It was a real pleasure to deal with each tech. I think I counted 5 different names! What I REALLY appreciate was that it was obvious that each tech taking over a ticket READ the entire ticket thread. Too often when a tech takes over due to moving it a tier or shift change, I felt like I needed to explain everything from the start. Gah!! I don't have time or patience for that.
Hardware wise, I moved from (PowerVPS) AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 246 to Intel(R) Xeon(R)CPU E5420 @ 2.50GHz (Future Hosting). In the case of PowerVPS, my VPS was on an old legacy machine that a few of us unlucky ones were still on (We were asked to bump up $$ to go to the new machines, I refused.) I don't know which server is better, but thus far my sites feel much more snappy. I also notice that my former VPS used burst RAM approach vs. SLM. (See my other post http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=896249). I should also state that perhaps PowerVPS uses this in their new machines. No idea.
Overall, I am paying the same amount for my new VPS, the sites are loading much faster and most importantly, the service has been top rate. I was a little worried at first because I heard such great reviews of Knownhost and SolarVPS (I am sure they are warranted), but based on the past 48-hours, I must say my selection was right for me in many ways. I'm crossing my fingers that this level of service will continue 3, 5 or more years down the road. If they do, I won't hesitate to recommend FutureHosting to the MANY developers I come into contact with. (I have sent a great deal of leads/business to every host I have been at.) I will need to revisit this thread on my anniversary to see if things continue in such a great manner.

Some of the other hosting companies I have tried are:
1&1
Virpus
Godaddy
And another one I stayed with for 2 weeks and can not remember the name of it. I have tried other hosting companies before. So I do have something to compare Future Hosting to.
Before I signed up with future hosting I had a website running joomla with a bridged SMF forum and another site running MDPro and MDForum. MDPro is a cousin to Postnuke and MDForum is kinda like PHPBB. When I signed up with a hosting company, most of the time I got a VPS and 256 megs of memory - or what ever the company had in that range. For some reason the pages took 10 - 20 seconds to load on the joomla site. The MDPro site was a little faster, but not much. Even though I submitted several trouble tickets, it seemed that tech support could not figure out why the response times were so slow. The usual answer was my site was "high traffic" and that was why the pages were loading slow. I often wondered how 10 - 15 people on a webpage can be high traffic? I tried the joomla support forums, the smf support forums - I looked for help everywhere I could.
After getting no help from one hosting company, I signed up at another, and another, and another. I had almost given up on ever owning a website.
That is when I came to Webhosting talk and started doing some serious research and that is when I found Future Hosting.
When I first signed up with Future Hosting in March of 2007 I got their 256 mg VPS server to run my new VBulletin forum on. It was a new hosting company, a new forum and a new adventure.
After the first month I must say that I was impressed. I had just left the last hosting company because of server performance, so I was surprised when people actually started signing up on my forum and posting stuff. I was even more surprised when the server allowed more then 15 or 20 people on it at a time. And I was REALLY surprised when the pages loads in just a couple of seconds, instead of 10 - 20+ seconds.
A few months later it was time to upgrade to a new server. And then a couple of months later my site was moved to a new data center.
The last time I needed serious tech support was in November of 2007 - exactly a year ago. During that year the only little bumps that have happened were asking the tech support people to update MYSQL, or update PHP for me. A whole freaking year with no server problems. You just do not hear about stuff like that. But somehow the techs at Future Hosting keep these servers up and running 365/24/7.
In the last week of October 2008 my site started experiencing slow load times and connection issues. So I opened a support ticket. Tech support and I exchanged several messages back and forth over the following days. But this time things were a little "different" - the connection problems would come and go. By the time I opened a ticket, and tech support looked at the site, everything was normal. There were a couple of times the tech support person saw high memory usage, or high CPU usage, but it lasted for only a couple of minutes.
Finally, one of the support guys checked the apache server at the right time and found my site was under a small DDOS attack. The Apache server had around 1,000 active connections to it.
After the tech support people installed some security software, the sever is back to normal and everything is running great.
Currently I have the the Elite package with 768MB of memory and 40 gigs of hardrive space. On this server I run 8 websites.
2 - VBulletin forums.
2 - SMF forums
5- Wordpress sites
One of my forums gets over 1.8 million page views a month, has over 332,000 post, gets 900 - 1,000 members visiting every 24 hours, 700 - 1,400 post every day and around 2,884 members visiting every 30 days.
My VBulletin forum - [url]
My wifes VBulletin forum - [url] My wifes site opened a couple of months ago. Anyone interested in digital cameras - go sign up.
Even with all of these sites and traffic, I still have around 500 megs of free memory and use just a fraction of the CPU.
It seems that most of the time when you read a review its negative. This is just the opposite, I am very satisfied with Future Hosting and highly recommend them to anyone looking for a serious hosting solution to real world needs.
Before I found Future Hosting I had almost given up on finding a good host. In fact, I was considering getting out of the website business all together. It seemed that no matter what host I tried, I would get the same results. Whether it was slow page loads, or terrible support - every company I tried seemed to be just alike. Until I read a review about Future Hosting here on webhosting talk.
Here I am 20 months after signing up with Future Hosting. And I am telling you, if your sick and tired of your host - dont live in misery, dont live with slow page loads, dont deal with poor tech support. Contact Future Hosting and get your website up and running like it should be.

After considering and comparing VPS offers from Future Hosting, Knownhost, Wiredtree, and Liquidweb, I went ahead and ordered from Future Hosting.
I'll post my initial impressions, and try to update the thread over time.
I currently have a VPS at Godaddy, plus shared hosting at Godaddy, 1and1, and Namecheap.
My objectives were to get away from Godaddy VPS, set up with a 'better' provider, and consolidate sites.
I am fairly technically adept, though not an expert. My requirements are for hosting appx. 25 sites currently, with perhaps another 15-25 to be added over the next 12 months.
Most are low volume, a few are low-to-mid volume. Nothing fancy, primarily informational sites and affiliate sales sites (WP and Xsitepro), and some direct ecommerce.
I focused on the 4 providers mentioned above based on recommendations and reviews here and elsewhere. My main concerns are reliability and price.
After comparing plans and the specials listed on the 'Webhosting Offers' board, I settled on Future Hostings "Titanium" managed VPS offer. The special offer they listed was for 50% off lifetime cost.
Through live chat, I spoke with Nick to ask some specific questions. He was patient and helpful each of the 3-4 times I came back with questions.
One question I asked was how long it would take to get provisioned. He quoted me at under 12 hours - this was also mentioned on the "Offers" thread, specifically for the current special.
The "unspecial" price was $84.95 for 1Gb RAM, 650Gb bandwidth, and 50Gb disk space, with cPanel. I added Fantastico for $3.95. After the coupon code, I'll be paying $46.42 / month.
I put in the order at 10:04am.
Registration was activated at 10:50am.
Cpanel, Virtuozzo, firewall, etc. installed

NOTE: Sorry for the lack of formatting but I do not have those options as I am not a regular at WHT.
Well, I will admit I am not a regular at WHT.com, but I returned after wanting to find some information out about Go-Daddy (my friend needs a website and registered a domain name with them) Naturally I had bad thoughts because of all of the things I have heard about Go-Daddy. Before I switched my friend to Sharkspace, I just wanted to be objective and see if Go-Daddy was still all that bad. Well my assumptions were reinforced and I continued to initiate a domain transfer, and had my friend sign up with Sharkspace Hammerhead hosting.
I should mention I had my friend use my affiliate link banner, which I had literally signed up for and put on my website minutes prior because I wanted to take advantage of the 50 dollar payout! (I will not get this money until 70 days from now, which I am totally fine with because I will be using the money to pay for my hosting anyways, and understand Sharkspace's need to ensure customers that sign up through one's affiliate banner are there to stay for a while at least).
IN A NUTSHELL
At any rate, this experience today made me want to do a follow up review of Sharkspace, 12 months later from my first (ok) review here: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...04#post5269604
Let me get to the point for those who don't feel like reading the rest...SHARKSPACE IS AWESOME. There are other good hosts out there for sure, but Sharkspace is fabulous, no regrets.
IN DEPTH
The experience which I will be talking about revolves around my following activity with sharkspace... This is including domains and hosting packages I have signed up for personally, and that I have helped other people sign up for (who are not familiar with hosting or domains), and that I continue to manage/deal with.
- I have registered 9 domains
- I have registered 7 hosting accounts (2 Great Whites and 5 Hammerheads)
- I have transferred 2 of the 9 domain names from other registrars (Go-Daddy and another one I can't remember)
First and foremost, all hosting accounts were ready to go the next day, no problems (domain name propagation took a little bit longer obviously). All websites have experienced 100% up-time to date.
THE CLIENT AREA
The client area is wonderful, whith a direct link from Sharkspace’s home page. Log in and all the management options are accessible from this page. Click to access the knowledgebase, submit a ticket, view your account details (which are also displayed on the sidebar at all times), as well as manage services (which is their way of saying hosting packages), domain settings, ticket history, affiliate information, as well as a page that shows all the emails that they have sent you, in case you deleted them from your inbox!
My favorite is the “My Domains” link, which I use a lot. It brings you to the domain management page which initially shows you all of the domains you have with Sharkspace, color coded by status (pending, active, terminated), with “edit” buttons next to each domain name. When you click on the edit button it takes you to a simple page that has everything you need to know or get to as far as domain name management is concerned. Nameservers, Lock/Unlock, DNS Management, Contact Info, etc… is all there.
I have had experience with Yahoo, Bluehost, Go_Daddy, and Servage and can say that I had to go through multiple screens in order to get access to all of the domain management options I needed. Sharkspace gives you one screen where you choose the domain name you want to manage, and then a management screen for that domain name where you have access to anything and everything you would need to change.
I love the uniform layout and appearance where you are not bombarded by different display layouts that can be confusing. I was informed that the Sharkspace website was going to be redesigned at the end of the month, but I assume it will only get better. Another plus is that Sharkspace is not a postmodern advertising whore so to speak. What you see on the website is related to Sharkspace.
CPANEL
The cpanel is pretty standard. Easy to use and lets me add domain names and subdomains, also includes Fantastico which lets me conveniently automatically install a wide variety of scripts including my favorite, Wordpress.
SUPPORT TICKETS
Over the past year I have never waited more than 15 minutes for a support ticket reply. I should mention that most of the tickets were responded to in less than 10 minutes. I should also mention this is 24/7. They are easy to submit and I always get the problem solved the same day. I also really like the feature they included that automatically updates a list of knowledgebase topics LIVE while I am typing my concern/question in the support ticket window, so before I send the ticket I might realize that the answer might already be in what they call their Knowledgebase. (I am lazy and submit tickets but this feature is great so it does keep people like me from submitting tickets all the time.
LIVE CHAT
The live chat feature is awesome as well. It is available 8AM-5PM Monday-Saturday | Central Time (US & Canada)
Live Help can be used for:
Pre-sales Questions
Technical Questions (except in-depth elaborate technical questions), which you can just use the ticket system for.
I normally only wait for about 20-30 seconds for someone to come on to the live chat and start answering my questions.
OTHER
One time I transferred a domain, but forgot to OK it on the other end, and so it got cancelled, but I went ahead and initiated another transfer with Sharkspace, paying another 10 dollars because I am an idiot, this time I remembered to OK it on the other end though. A week later I decided to see if I could get that 9.95 back and submitted a ticket telling them what happened. He replied “I just credited your account 9.95” which got used to pay for my hosting, which was totally fine with me. It was great.
Earlier today I was on Live Chat about their affiliate program because I needed to log out in order to create a new account for my friend, but they do not have a logout button! It is kind of funny that that was overlooked but the representative on live chat told me the site was going to be redesigned at the end of August 2009 (this month).
THE BOTTOM LINE
When you deal with Sharkspace you deal with reasonable people who deal with each of their customers on a case by case basis. I’ve had nothing but an excellent experience with my hosting or domain name management at Sharkspace. They continue to provide awesome service and do not pack their customers on servers like sardines. I get true 100gb space, and true bandwidth. I have yet to reach the 1TB limit/month, which I never will, but I have to believe with a track record like theirs you could safely presume that you actually get a true 1TB/month transfer limit. Their prices are extremely competitive and if you are worried about a couple dollar difference with another host, its safe to say you won’t regret choosing Sharkspace.
BONUS DEAL
Their promotional code which gets you 50% off for life is an AMAZING deal as well, I will not put it in this post because I don’t know if they like that kind of thing, but if you search the WHT forums you will find the promotions that Sharkspace representatives post.
Thanks for reading! I hope this changed some minds and helped those of you who are intimidated by the tons of hosting companies. Among the other good hosts out there, Sharkspace should definitely be on your list of options!

I had a Java community site and wanted to provide java hosting for java newbies, so I looked for java resell hosting. After search 'java hosting' from this forum, I found Qoozz which provides java resell hosting.
In about four minutes I'd signed up, payed via paypal and I had my confirmation email in about 2 minutes. I was able to redirect the nameservers with my registrar. My account is live.
Positives
Provide an affordable solution for Java resell hosting.
Support is usually answered quickly, For example, I emailed to their support at Jun 3, 2008 10:01 PM and got replay at Jun 3, 2008 10:03 PM.
Service is always very stable. Little downtime. It's the most reliable in all of my hosting account.( I have five accounts in different hosting companies).

Anyone here using Future Hosting's VPS? How long have you been on it, how is support? Are they stable on uptimes and connections? Does the managed vps mean they will install software for you such as ffmpeg and etc? I am needing a good vps solution for my phpfox website,

I'm not having a good experience with Future Hosting. Since January, I've had one disk failure and two power outages. Future Hosting usually gets good reviews, right? But I'm thinking of moving my site to Slicehost. Is this a good move?

Here's my "less than 24 hours" review.
I ordered a VPS and within 10 minutes it was setup and I was ready to go. Since then we've had at least 20 communication through tickets/email and they're been great!
Although I wish they had phone and chat support, ticket support works fine. The prices are very reasonable, and I love that they have so many options(control panels, resource amounts, etc.)
I'll reply with a week review, but I have no doubt that it'll be better and better.
I highly recommend Future Hosting, thanks again!

Id just like to mention that I really appreciate the hosting service you (Future Hosting) provide to me and the work and support that you have assisted me with - I am very gracious and I look forward to future help from you.
I thought I should also mention that you are the host I have even been with the longest and you have left the most satisfaction out of the all the hosts I have gone through,
Being able to have a VPS service provided to me and served in a UK datacentre is extremely important to myself and my clients - that is what is so great about Future Hosting, they give you a large choice of selection of datacentre's to choose from when signing up with them!

I'd been with hivelocity for 14 months by now and i'm thinking to continue my bussines on there.
I created a thread on the past, this is the thread:
[url]
And this is what i said:
Quote:
What can i say?
They just Rock, Dave and steve are just great.
Dave is my account manager he is helpfull, quickly and very efficient.
i would like to recommend people to join in hivelocity.
They are just more than fine, my server is working great and i had 2 issues resolved.
1 issue in less than 20 mins (another server in the rack was consuming a lot of bandwith)
the other issue was a little more complicated but it has been resolved too, thanks Dave
They have the same problem with support than sharktech (not managed), but if you talk to your account manager or Steve they will take care of it and get the problem resolved in a few minuts, that's just cool.
Service and support for me was really good in one week with they .. i will stay for a long time here if everything goes right.
and if we can, stablish a long term business based on trust (i'm a coder i can help)
Well from that moment to now i can say the following things:
No downtimes, only schedules (maintenence)
No support problems.
I upgraded my server to a quad2core and for 6 months payment, they gove me a second HDD!
I'm sending new customers to hivelocity right now, and trying to start reselling their servers.
¿why do i want to?
Because Steve and Dave, are responsable guys.
Because Network works fine.
Last server i bought for a customer: 1 day setup, no problems. I did a hardware check and it was OK, no HDD failures and TEMPERATURE was the right.
Because they understand if you have a problem.
Because support is there to help, even if you don't pay for "Managed services"
And i think that, they manage customers as well, that you can feel as a part of the company and not just another Argentinian customer.
So, watching the huge financial crisis, i want to give a good review about this company, and try to get more and new customers to they.
I would highly recommend to buy their services, this is not another company this is one of the best companies i ever knew.

This is my first review regarding a dedicated server prodiver, so forgive me if i miss anything.
We are a small web hosting company located in Greece and after many years in a Greek Datacenter, we were seeking for a reliable provider with Managed Dedicated servers. After a lot of search here in WHT, we came through ServerBoost which is located in Holland.
Sales: Jelle was very patient during our talks, although we were just researching at the time being. A really nice guy and a true professional, answered all my questions as I was skeptic regarding the migration, or details of our contract and service. ( personal fears :p )
Support: They say the first impression is the most significant and I must admit that mine was pretty good. Starting from the Server migration ( From 2 old/slow servers to a brand-new Dell one. ) which went really smoothly from ServerBoost part, taking the downtime to minimal time!
Our SLA contract has a specific time window for support requests but it hardly takes over some minutes or 1-2 hours to get a response ( regarding the time of the day of course! ) and Jelle is always there when i need to ask something.
Hardware/Network: Our Dell server is running really good, and the network is really reliable as "promised". Good speeds and ping ( from Greece ) which is important for our customers.
Conclusion: For me, having dealt with only one foreign company in the past for hosting ( US ), ServerBoost is the ideal one to do business with, because they look really "caring" about our business and their flexibility is priceless.
I'm looking forward using ServerBoost for a long time, really satisfied! :-)

I would just like to say that they surprise me for a shared host.
Support: 10/10
Uptime: 9/10
Speed: 9.5/10
Value: 8/10
Although I pay quite a bit I still think it's worth it. About $15/mth for 15GB HDD and 75GB transfer. My website handles ~300K hit's daily with only a few hiccups. It's uptime is something like 99.97% which is decent. The only big incident is when I first signed up I was transferring my domain which took a few days, but was resolved professionally. So far it's a big thumbs up.

Decided to give a VPS a try back in November. Ordered through one the sales advertised in the offer forums, got set-up in less than 12 hours.
In terms of performance, the VPS works fine.
In terms of service, this is where the ball is dropped.
The issue is that they set me up in LA, and I'm on the East coast. So I've contacted support, asking if a move was possible. When they said yes, and I've confirmed that their offer to move it during the night was fine, I've even shut everything down to make things smoother.
The next morning, I receive an email telling me I will get another one once it's done... the following day, I receive an email that it can't be done, as I have a x64 OS and there is no space on the node.
So I let this slide, and decide that sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and decided to offer them to BUY another one, this time on the East coast, if they could offer me the same setup as I have on the West coast. They've agreed, and I did the order as they requested... That was around noon 2 days ago, and still nothing today...
For another example, I've requested a ticket because the /dev/tun wasn't configured properly in the container... I don't know what they did, but it corrupted my VPS so bad that I have to re-initialise it completly. Another example: I've posted a ticket that their gentoo image is faulty (no network support at all!), and to my knowledge this was still not fixed.
So yes, NYNOC has some cool ideas like an online chat, even offered an EYEOS desktop, forums, tips, and great prices... but for me now this ain't worth it much and will be canceling my accounts. I guess coming from VPSFarm has spoiled me (instant setup, quick support), and will be looking for a new provider.

1. Month
I used 15 days of godaddy's shared hosting before FsckVPS. Due to unexpected traffic, I had to move to a VPS. So I chose FsckVPS's 512mb packet.
I was very sattisfied with them. Their servers were fast and the VPS got setup in just a few seconds.
The hacking incident happened this month. I was still pleased by the way they handled it. So I decided to stay with them. They decided to give 2 months free after the hacking incident.
2. Month and 3. Month
Everything was very smooth, running perfectly. Servers were still fast after I got switched to a new one after the hacking.
4. Month
This is the second time I paid to FsckVPS and I was pretty happy about it.
Then I have been informed that they will be switching servers. They told that it would take around 4 hours per vps.
So when I noticed that my vps was down for the first time, I didn't react and waited. After being down for about 8 hours, I sent them a ticket. The response came after 4 hours saying that it was now online.
I logged in to my vps and the first thing I noticed was how SLOW it was. After a while, it crashed and I couldn't reach to my vps anymore. I sent a ticket, they reset the server, it got a little better.
This happened about 4 times. Everytime I sent a ticket asking why this is happening, I only received a response saying it is OK now.
After 3 weeks of being like this, I decided to switch to a new VPS provider.
Now I am on my new VPS provider, hoping for better results.
My fsckvps will expire in 4 days and it is still very slow.

After having a dedicated server for more than 70 days from WiredTree.com, I thought that it would be a good time for a review.
I came across them through good reviews in this forum and took the opportunity to get one of their special offers (Core i7). As a short summary in advance: I can fully recommend them to anyone seeking a managed dedicated box.
Sales:
I just had contact to Sales twice - Once as I tried to bargain for an even cheaper offer than the special one they already had (without success, by the way) and a second time when it came to an eventual server upgrade. Response time was quick, the answers were professional and friendly and there is nothing I could complain about.
Server Setup:
I was in a totally different time-zone than WiredTree while ordering the server. As they have the practice to call their new customers for identity verification, the call reached me at night time and I could not pick it up. So I called them in the morning and they called me back again. It must have been deepest night time in Chicago at this moment. From this telephone call on, it took less than 2-3 hours (as far as I remember) until the server was ready and online.
Another thing is their "ServerShield Server Hardening" that they perform before you get the box. I never received a dedicated server before with so many tweaking measures taken in advance. MySQL performance was improved, the firewall was well configured, security checks were already made, everything felt fine-tuned in advance. So, again, very good job done by WiredTree.
Hardware Quality:
You might say: "You've only been with them 70+ days. Of course, there was no hardware problem during that short time". Well, I read here at WHT about customers of other hosts who had the first failures already at the moment they received the new box. So - No hardware problems at all until now.
Support:
I am not very experienced in server management and tend to get nervous if something doesn't work and support takes more than 30min. to answer questions. I know that this makes me annoying sometimes, but at least I always try to be friendly. Fortunately, WiredTree seems very good prepared for nerve-wrackers like me... Support never took more than 15min. to answer my requests and in at least 2 cases, they even bent backwards to help me with problems that had nothing to do with them. Every single request got solved in a very short time. I contacted support at the most unusable hours of the day because I often travel between different time zones - They were always there, like an own IT-Crowd in your pocket. Two thumbs up for their support staff.
Network:
100% Uptime during the whole time. No hickups at all, no problem that I would be aware of. Fine speed all the time. There is really nothing negative that I could say.
Billing:
No billing issues at all. Everything worked correctly.
Their customer portal "Grove":
Well. Hmmm. Okay, one thing first: I saw several customer portals during the last 10 years. And none of them blew me away. I haven't seen SoftLayer's yet and was told that theirs should be even nicer than grandmas cheese cake, but the grass is always greener on the other side as long as you have never been there. Let's say that "Grove" is surely one of the better and nicer looking customer portals around. It bundles a lot of information and offers a good way of communication. The rest is a question of taste...
The bad news:
I cancelled the server today. The company I work for has rent several servers at another host and paid them 1 year in advance. One is totally unused (great planning, MnMgt!) and I was offered by my boss to use it cost-free for that period of time. Well, this is an opportunity I have to take... Saving $300 a month is quite a lot of money. But I am determined to go back to WiredTree as soon as my "free time" is over.

I've been using SmoothVPS for about 4 months (and colleagues of mine have been using them for more than that) based on posts from WHT as well as recommendations from others in the industry. Bob @ SmoothVPS has been extremely helpful, very responsive, and is seemingly always online to help me with even the most basic of questions. He has bent over backwards to accomodate my random needs and helps me with specific server configurations that I can't figure out - even with third-party packages that he is not required to support!
I have three Linux-based VPSes with Bob and he has no problem configuring them to my specific needs with whatever version OS that I require. I plan on adding many more as I migrate all my servers to him - I've decided to give him my exclusive business due to how well everything runs and how competitive the price is. Billing is simple - Paypal subscriptions or regular invoices make it a snap to manage (even if I lose track, which I do - sorry Bob).
The bottom line is that SmoothVPS is the place to go for your VPS needs. I haven't needed Windows boxes there, but I will probably mess around with one in the near future to test some software. They're moving to a new DC in the near-future - and they're giving me 30 free days of IP migration to make sure the process runs smoothly. Just amazing.

I've had a Krypt VPS for a few months now, started with the VPS400 package and moved up to VPS800 over time. Initially (I'm guessing they had just gotten into providing VPS's) the service was EXCELLENT! My VPS was located in their LA datacenter on the Level3 backbone. First two months the VPS was rock solid, I was running a full LAMP (no optimizations) install along with Webmin. By the 3rd month I started having issues with sluggishness, both on the site and SSH. Put in a support ticket which got responded to within 10 minutes as usual (fantastic support!) and their techs moved my VPS to a less loaded VMware node. Things were again pretty solid for about two weeks, then the same thing happened again. I let it be for a few days thinking it may just be a spike, but even after a week it was still pretty horrid. I had even turned off the LAMP install and Webmin in favor of a lone Lighttpd install to serve static html pages. Mind you by this time I had been upgraded to above their VPS800 package, yet I was still having performance issues. Put in another ticket and asked to be moved to another node, they said sure and asked a timeframe, I told them asap and let the issue be. After 4 hours of not hearing anything back, I update my ticket to find out that they were having some issues with the VPS, ok bad things happen, give them time. A few hours later I ask again and am told that they formatted the VPS without any authorization from me...Its a VMware host, they could at the least have attached the virtual hard drivei mage to the new install of my VPS, but they prefered to just delete it. I run several ESX servers at work and even with a nonbootable (according to them) image, the hard drive can still be mounted and recovery can be attempted. I was angry but I have a few dedicated servers with Krypt so I gave them another chance. I took the freshly installed VPS and started hunting down backups to restore from. Installed LAMP and Webmin, gave it a week and once again: slow. I'm fairly certain that CentOS repo apps and Webmin arn't enough to cause a VPS to dog down this bad, even with *everything* turned off (top shows 24MB ram usage) SSH and pages being served by lighttpd are taking 3-10 seconds to come up, as before they came up before I even let go of the button.
Ratings
Support: 10/10
Service: 6/10
VPS Quality: 5/10
Network: 5/10 (great in the beginning, after a week less than 400KB/s)
Overall they're a great provider, but they need to monitor their nodes more carefully and find abusers. It seems to me like they're either overloading their nodes or have something misconfugured thats causing issues. I was told a few times to restart my VPS which didn't help at all. Orderded a VPS with them about 2 weeks ago on a different account, havn't even touch it since I got it, as of right now, SSH is sluggish, apps like top take an average 5 seconds to come up, max throughput is ~300KB/s from Seattle (hit ~7MB/s when I first got it). Same issue as my other VPS. I'll provide my domain to the mods for authentication.

I thought I could share my opinion on VolumeDrive after being with them for a few months. I always appreciated when I could find in-depth reviews from hosting companies when I was looking for one so I hope some peope will find this review useful.
First of all, here my plan with them:
Quote:
AMD Athlon64 3200+
1 GB DDR2 Ram
120 GB SATA Hard Drive
3000 GB of bandwidth on 100MB port
2 IP addresses
Ubuntu Server 8.04 Linux
This package costs me $49.95 per month.
It all started when I contacted them to have more information on their services and what they have to offer. They replied very quickly and sent me a document detailing every offer they have and how their plans work. It's a shame that all that information wasn't available on their website, they proposed roughly 3 different dedicated solutions on their order form when you can actually choose a bunch of other options. Anyway, I asked a few other questions (like if they could install Ubuntu even if it wasn't listed in the available OS, and they had no problem in doing this). Again, they replied quickly. I made my choice and as I made my first payment, my server was online 24 hours later, as stated in their e-mail.
Communication with Volumedrive's staff is always great, I've had an issue one time where my internet connection was realllllly slow. I e-mailed them and it took a few minutes before I received an answer to my e-mail with someone trying to find what was wrong. We exchanged a few e-mails trying to find what was the issue and the issue got resolved in no time. Aside from this problem, I've never had any network or hardware issue (still have a fresh new server though)
I also personnaly think that their prices are far superior to what other companies offer. Their plans are flexible and if I want a hardware upgrade for example I know I can just contact them and we'll work out the details.
The only downsides I can give them is that their website is missing a lot of information. When you are looking for a server you may not want to spend time contacting each company by e-mail to ask question and have more information, you rely on the website to give you a lot of details. Also, their invoice system is not so great. You receive an e-mail saying you need to pay them and they only accept paypal. When your payment is done, you don't receive any confirmation e-mail. It's not bothering me much for a 50$ server, but I'd want a more conventional billing system with automatic renewal if I had a big business going on with them.
All in all, I really like volumedrive! I'd recommend it for everybody looking for a low cost dedicated server, they're fast, professional and helpful. You just need to send them an e-mail to get the plan that works for you so tow thumbs up for Volumedrive!

We have been with ServerBoost since March '09.
Specs:
2x Quad Core Xeon E5430
12 GB DDR2 FB-DIMM memory
2x 146 GB SAS 15k RPM
Hardware RAID 1
Pricing:
A little more expensive than some other NL hosts but you get what you pay for.
Setup:
Total setup time was 3 days after payment (the server was a custom setup), because we had to wait an extra day for the setup Jelle gave us a free upgrade (better CPU and HDDs) which was amazing seeing that the setup period wasn't that long anyway.
Uptime:
In the past 7 months we have had 2 small bits of downtime, 1 was scheduled - when they upgraded their datacenter and the other was due to a RAID card failure, which was promptly replaced in less than an hour. Their network is faultless.
Support:
We only have the free SLA yet Jelle responds within minutes, and his responses are always friendly and professional. However I haven't needed to contact support outside of business hours so I cannot vouch for that, but during business hours it's top notch.
Overall:
I can't recommend ServerBoost enough, I'm 110% pleased. We/I have 5 servers in EU each with different providers and ServerBoost is by far my favourite and the one I recommend most.

I'm sharing my experience with Dynaceron till now .
Month one;
I wanted to try a Linux server and I ordered one of their hardware, that came with CentOS. I have had many questions about Linux, as I am new to it, and the friendly tech support people helped me find answers. The questions I had were often answered in under 3 minutes. I've had 5 minutes of downtime, but that was because I ordered a 4 gigabyte ram upgrade.
Month two;
I decided to go back to Windows and I asked them if they could install Windows on my server, They asked if I had my data backed up, when I said yes they said they were going to start the install ASAP, after 1.5 hours I received an email with the login details..
After 15 days I asked if they could upgrade my uplink to 1Gbps; The upgrade was done without a server reboot.
Month three;
No problems so far, everything has been going well. Seriously, in my opinion they are the best service around, couldn't ask for better. Their uptime is fantastic. In 3 months I've only experienced 5 minutes of downtime, but again that was because I ordered a hardware upgrade.
I would highly recommend them to anyone that is looking for Quality hardware and support.
I will write a review back in 3 months or if I ever experience a problem I will update this thread.

Finally I managed to get some time to write another review about my host, VPSRight. Simple summary, one of the best webhosts that i have ever had. With great support and resources. And the best thing is they think about their customers.
Talking about their support, they're an excellent bunch who knows what they are doing and what they're being asked. Extremely prompt on responses and are usually responded within an hours time. In the initial month or so I've submitted a lot of tickets and they were dealt with ease.
Their servers are great and fast. Not overloaded and recent uptimes have been great. For the last 3 or so weeks I've had no downtime. And after switching from FluidVM to SolusVM the host nodes have become much more stable.
Network is also great and have a good connection speeds. I rarely go below the 1Mbit/s when downloading files to the server (incoming). A few weeks ago we had a small issue of packet loss for a few hours, as result of a DOS attack on another server at the DC. It was soon mitigated and services was fully restored.
In the months of June/July, VPSRight inured a lot of downtime due to DC migrations and s/w migrations. Therefore they made the next billing cycle free to all it's customers as a compensation. This something good as host and they've taken responsibility for the actions they took.
Now everything is a smooth ride and I am a very happy customer of theirs. I'd happily recommend them if someone is looking for reasonably priced, managed, decent spec VPSs.
