File Server With CDP/ Or Some Version Of Inhouse Snapshot

Aug 12, 2008

We have a immediate need for a fileserver with some sort of CDP/snapshot backup offered on their own internal *lan*

It will be primarily used as a file server with multiple developers worldwide .

Can anyone recommend a hoster with this. Reliability and Quality.
Not necessarily a requirement, but the person managing this *would prefer a Plesk CP*.

Looked at softlayers offerings and while it's fair for what it is....at their pricepoint, we would just setup one in a DC. It's moreso a immediate need that does not allow this.

Setting Up An Inhouse Server.

Aug 6, 2008

I have an old computer that I want to setup as a server, for some small projects that I would like to publish online. I don't want to install any GUI's if I don't have to. What I would like to do is install linux (not sure which one), apache, php, and a webhost manager to handle the domains on that box. Can someone point me to a tutorial or in the right direction here? I would like to practice installing these things on my home box for now so I can get used to. I was going to install ubuntu, but thought that was to excessive for what I want.

Host For 10 SnapShot Webcams

Jul 21, 2008

For the last two years I was on a local DSL provider plan that included a the use of a personal webspace/webpage that I could upload pictures to, and have people see them. Well I took it one step further and started using my webcams to FTP Upload Images every 20 seconds to my personal webspace/webpage. Currently I'm using 13 webcams to FTP Upload my images that update every 15-20 seconds.

This worked great for a very long time until I upgraded to a new broadband provider in town who told me I could get; 16Meg down and 2Meg up. Considering my old DSL provider only gave me 3Meg down and less then 400K up, I jumped ship to the new broadband provider. Little did I know what would happen next

I started my new account on the new broadband server, started FTP Uploading my webcams when I noticed a message coming back in the log and the uploading webcams freezing up. The message in the logs was this>
'FTP Finished:orry, you may not connect more than three times'. A call to the new broadband provider help desk confirmed my worst fears. They only allow a total of three (3) people or devices to connect, or FTP, to my new personal webspace/webpage. My older DSL provider never had a problem with me connecting all my webcams to their server and I had 5-15 people regularly tuning in to watch the webcams from all over the world without a hitch. I was paying for just a basic residential DSL account too. Unfortuantely, I cancelled my account with the old DSL company too thinking this new broadband company would work wonders for my site, downloading, and etc. Boy, was I ever wrong.

So, here I am everyone. I'm looking for a Web Host that can handle me uploading about 13 different webcams at 15-20 second intervals and then disconnecting. There is No Streaming done. These are just simple Logitech and Creative CCD Webcams that take a snapshot every few seconds, FTP'ing the images to the server and my webpage for people to view. The images are displayed on a simple written Java HTML Webpage. Very basic stuff, seriously.. I know next to nothing about HTML, but it works.

I hate to go back to my original old DSL Host because of the slow 3Meg down, and less then 400K upload, just to display my webcam images as I successfully did for the last two years.

Now here I have this fast broadband connection of 16Meg down, and 2Meg up, and can't really use it now for my intended purpose.

I don't really need a lot of storage space, nor emails accounts, and etc. Currently I use under 18Meg worth of space on my personal webspace/website. I just need to be able to do my FTP Uploads with my webcams and also able to have people view those uploaded images without the server saying: 'Sorry Charlie'.

Any idea's where i can find a Server Host that will allow my FTP Uploads without costing an arm and a leg. This is purely a hobby for folks enjoying my camera's here in Minnesota.

Bring Web-filtering Inhouse - Appliance / Application

May 1, 2008

I have a requirement to bring web-filtering inhouse on our own hardware.

This is to support up to 50 remote sites - I've looked at iron port / barracuda but Im not sure if it can do what is required.

I need each remote site to effectively have a seperate 'account' with the ability for each sites manager to see the traffic just for their site, create users for that site, specify site specific blocks / allows and also monitor which users are browsing which sites.

Does anyone know of a product or application that allows this sort of segmentation? I'm not a big fan of Surf Control (I don't believe it's able to deal with this sort of setup)

The other option is 1 appliance per remote site - but the costs associated with this are probably out of our budget for this project.

This one's an itnerestign one thats been bugging me for a while!

Apache :: Compiled Version Does Not Match Loaded Version

Mar 26, 2014

I am running Apache on a Windows server and it is up and running.I downloaded and installed:

Apache 2.4.9 Win32 [Apache VC11 Binary] httpd-2.4.9-win32-VC11.zip

And included ModSecurity from download: modules-2.4-win32-VC11.zip..

The version of ModSecurity is mod_security-2.7.7 . It is up and running, but I get a warning:

ModSecurity: Loaded PCRE do not match with compiled!

Here's the difference in the PCRE from the logs:

PCRE compiled version="8.33 "; loaded version="8.34 2013-12-15".

The compiled version does not match the loaded version. Is this something I should be concerned about and try to find compiled versions that match?

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: Adding Multiple PHP Version / Error Reading Data From FastCGI Server

Jun 6, 2014

I'm trying to add multiple PHP version (current version installed: 5.5.13), using the official documentation. I always get 500 Internal Server Error after switching to the new version, with the following error_log content:

Code:
[Sat Jun 07 00:49:35 2014] [warn] [client XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX] (104)Connection reset by peer: mod_fcgid: error reading data from FastCGI server
[Sat Jun 07 00:49:35 2014] [error] [client XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX] Premature end of script headers: index.php
Here you can view phpinfo() obtained running php54-cgi index.php from the command line. Same script doesn't work as FastCGI.

I'm trying to add PHP 5.4.29. Here is how I compiled it:

Code:

./configure
--prefix=/usr/local/php54
--with-bz2
--with-config-file-path=/usr/local/php54/etc
--with-config-file-scan-dir=/usr/local/php54/etc/php.d
--with-curl

[code]....

Switching back to PHP 5.5.13 and the script works fine (a simple phpinfo() output). How can I try to understand/debug what's wrong with the installation?

File Server Redundancy

Sep 29, 2009

I am planning to buy a dedicated server and a shared server from a hosting company.
Basically I want to have a redundant server so that if one file server goes down, there is no downtime.

Somehow the servers would need to be constantly synchronized so that the files saved to one are immediately saved to the other server as well.

Can somebody told me how to setup the 2 server so that my dedicated server can serve as the main server and if the dedicated server is down, the shared server can automatically be activated and visitors of my website will auto be redirect to the shared server.

Do i need to setup any backup DNS too so that when the dedicated server is down, it will auto redirect the user to the shared server.

File Server Setup

Oct 18, 2008

I own a file hosting and delivery site, and am looking for new/better way (that involves the use of a large storage array, such as the Dell PowerVault MD1000) to store and serve user files. I currently have many separate file servers that store and serve user files, and each server has roughly the following specs:

Quad core processor
4-8GB RAM
8x750GB RAID-10

I know with the large storage array, I will need front-end servers to retrieve files from it, but wasn't really sure how this works. Also, would this new method be more optimal/cost-effective than my current method (I probably think the answer is yes).
