Well, the ns1.NAME.com and ns2.NAME.com is done. It works and links to the right place.
My host name is "dog.NAME.com" and links to the main server IP (example 1.1.1.1). So when i try to do this:
1.1.1.1/~NAME, it redirects me to dog.NAME.com which is good but then dog.NAME.com can't be found.
Server not found is the exact error i get. The IP works. i don't know what i am doing wrong.
My host said they will charge me to fix it, so i am relaying on you guys to save me money.
Heres the thing, I purchased a domain today at 123-reg.co.uk
And well, I'm planning on creating a forum for this domain under another host. But I will be getting that host in a few months, since I'm going on vacation for 6 weeks and its unnecesary to already pay a host.
So I'm looking for a free host, that supports nameserver change. Because I wan't to have a temporary page with Coming Soon text on it and a contact form, so the host should be able to use php also. This is just till I'm back from the vacation and have the new host. Anybody knows a nice one?
Also another question, this is my first time using a seperate domain from host. Can I always change my domains nameservers? So that when I return from vacation, I can apply them on the new host?
Basically as the title says I have a domain thedrunkengamer.net that is my main domain and website, I just got a dedicated server and in the startup steps in WHM im at the Nameserver setup screen.
If i go to GoDaddy and register ns1.thedrunkengamer.net and ns2.thedrunkengamer.net as nameservers can I still use www.thedrunkengamer.net as my website?
If so by doing this will it impact the performance of my website at all? Should I register a seperate domain to use for nameservers?
I updated my account from shared to my first VPS account with GoDaddy and they assigned me a I.P.
Now,I choose the options to use GoDaddy NameServers, and i changed the entry there so that my domain name points to my I.P,like this:
Host: @ Point to: <I.P assigned to my domain>
Now,if i type my domain name in the browser,it shows my website but if i click on any link, my I.P address is being shown on the browser instead of my I.P.This is happening for all the links.
what nameservers settings i need to so that this does not happens.
Host will only update DNS in batches, takes several hours for a DNS change, is that normal? Well today my mail stopped working and it turns out the A record for mail was deleted. How it got deleted I don't know.
I called my host and after speaking to 2 techs, they said that have added my request to a batch, and that would update in a few hours.
I said to him, batch? What can't you do it instantly?
He said thats not the way their DNS works and any DNS change would affect thousands of other sites they are hosting.
Does anyone know what kind of dns system these people could possibly have where they can not reload a single zone?
And by affected, I think he means the sites will go down for a minute or so, while it relaods every zone. Is this really the case, or are these people just idiots?
My provider just gave 1 IP and to be use as shared IP for every accounts created in the server. I also assigned that IP for my nameserver ns1.domain.com at my registrar.
I was instructed also by my provider to use the next IP for the second nameserver which I also created at my registrar and created dns zone at the whm. All of the domains using that two IPs are working but I dont know why when I ping the second dns its not working. from Intodns.com its also showing nameserver 2 as an error..
My question is, do I need to add the second IP on the server/whm? you see when I go to WHM and click Show IP Address Usage I only see the first IP shared to all other domains. Somehow I'm expecting to see the second IP on the screen.
Anyone can enlighten me? the server I got should have been a full management but my provider is somehow responding so slow.
I use my web server as its own nameserver. I know the potential draw backs of this, but it works fine for me.
I have recently moved server and need to configure my new server to work as my nameserver.
I use one of the server administration companies people talk about here, but they seem to be unable to configure this for me. As a result my server is down (can't be reached due to nameserver issues).
Does anyone know off hand how I can do this myself?
I purchased a new dedicated server out of Canada and received my login and IPs. I added them, setup WHM, updated WHM to newest version along with PHP 5.25, Mysql 5.0 and set it up to the best of my knowledge and transferred all my accounts from my previous semi-dedicated WHM. I have my own nameservers with Tucows register and transferred the new IPs on Friday at 2:00 pm CST. It is now sunday at 6pm CST and they seem to have propagated i think, but DNSreports still show errors on lucentone.com and ns1.lucentone.com. I checked all files in /etc folder and even did the rndc fix for WHM and Restarted Bind.
i went back in after contacting datacenter to ask them to help me and they dont know what could be wrong. I have no managed support on my Box but i know some linux and CPanel but never setup DNS, IPs and a Cpanel from scratch install with the zone files, this was my first time. Frustrated with this whole thing and staying up until 4am trying to fix these problems for the past 2 days. i finally got fed up as all my customers accounts are down and decided to do another updating of WHM and found that now my Dig has authorative records, but still DNSrepot and others are showing still problems with my nameservers. There has to be something still wrong. I dont know if i have the localhost set correctly as i have also added a S01.lucentone.com for my server host.
Maybe this is the problem, but i have never done this before. Can anyone help me with this?
If anyone could help me, this would be much appreciated. i am about to pull my hair out. :-)

1) I use DNSMadeEasy for a couple of my important domains so I can utilize their failover service.
2) I use my own nameservers for everyone else.
At my register (GoDaddy) I've added host entries to my domain (let's call it host.com) for ALL of my nameservers: DNSMadeEasy and mine. For example here are my host entries:
At the register I've then configured host.com to use the first five nameservers for itself, the DNSMadeEasy nameservers.
For less critical sites that I host I simply point them to ns1.host.com and ns2.host.com, my nameservers.
Now, here's the twist. If I use dig to look up www.host.com I get:
[root@lax1 ~]# dig +trace www.host.com

What I've realized is that the actual IP addresses for nameserver host entries come from a higher level server than my own, in this case H.GTLD-SERVERS.net. I guess this makes sense but I just hadn't realized it before. It looks like I don't even need to have record entries in my DNS records for the host nameservers.
Now for the question. Can I:
1) Remove my custom host nameserver entries from my register.
2) Add entries in my DNSMadeEasy records to specify the location of ns1.host.com and ns2.host.com.
3) Use the failover provided by DNSMadeEasy to also fail-over my DNS entries for my nameservers?
I know this would require one more hop if it works but it would allow me to provide failover ability to fifty domains without having to purchase the extra domains at DNSMadeEasy.
I have many server with Plesk 12...in this server I have single nameserver...example server number 1 have ns1.domain.com and ns2.domain.com - server number 2 have ns1.tldnames.com ns2.tldnames.com etc etc...
Now I want manage all server with single nameserver example all server working with ns1.newnameserver.com and ns2.newnameserver.com ....
I have licenses for my server of Plesk no limits...how check if PPA is installed in my server ? Otherwise how to install PPA or other software for DNS Manager?
If you're buying domain name plus hosting form a reputed company I don't think you should worry but it is always good to read the TOS thoroughly before you sign up a service.
I have just bought a domain from Namecheap and am trying to transfer it to my web-host Reseller Zoom. Namecheap is asking me to provide two nameservers from my web-host to transfer. Do I give Namecheap the two websites(ns1arbi...) or the numbers(207.210...)?
How reasonable are domains which are i8nside hosting packages? Read a lot about this, people mostly saying they should be avoided, but give no real examples, so I do not know whether to get a domain from a host, marblehost.com in particular.
Maybe someone here has corresponding experience, maybe some second-hand at least?
my previous experience has been shared all the time, and the domain is hosted with the same hosting company as the site.
1. if i have a vps, do i still need companies like godaddy to host my domain or i can just install my own domain name server to do this?
2. if i can do above. how to transfer the domain from the previous company to my dns server? if i want to register a new domain name, who do i apply to?
I just recently switched from a shared hosting to a vps hosting. And I'm a bit confused on how to transfer my domain name to the VPS host. When I signed up I choose the option "Transfer my domain to here" Is there anything else I need to do? Or I just wait for it to be transfered after i supply the auth code? Sorry this is my first time using a vps type hosting.
The more I read and research the more confused I get. Issue: Business #1 hosted on local ISP, no pressing need to move it. Business #2 started out selling (not ecommerce) a couple items related to business #1 so I created pages for them on B1 site. B1 is no longer active, B2 now has a lot of items for sale and needs to get it’s own site, eventually ecommerce, but not right away (not a lot of time right now). I own the name for B2 parked at Network Solutions & it’s up for renewal (in a few days). I can move the domain register & get a website on one of the bigger hosting sites for about the same cost as I’m now paying for a private registration at NS. Is it stupid to pay for private since the contact info is plastered all over the website anyway? Most of these hosts offer a free domain registration. Then I read that it’s better to have your domain registered somewhere other than the site host in case there is a dispute.
I’m thinking—move registration to GoDaddy now. Keep researching hosts. If I (ever) decide on one that offers free registration I can get another name to park on the main domain that is reg’ed with GoD? Or would the free domain automatically be considered the main domain at host where I’d have 1 c panel & add-ons?
I need to make sure I can add ecommerce to the site in the future.
I created the original site in Front Page 97 which is of course no longer supported, I no longer even have a fully working version that I can find since I upgraded to XP, but I have a front page editor & Cute FTP to update the B1 site. So I’m in the market for another simple site builder, I don’t write code. I also have a dial-up connection only, so I don’t think an on-line builder is a good option.
Oh, and I’m on a tight budget but not looking for a free hosting “service”. $10/ month maybe?
I didn’t even know anything about CPanels and add ons and sub domains until a couple days ago. Info overload,
