Plesk - Fantastico-like Option?
Dec 30, 2008I'm using Plesk on one of my webhosts (GoDaddy) and would like to know if anyone knows of a good Cpanel Fantastico-like option that allows you to update a string of sites with the latest updates. I'm more familiar with Cpanel.

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: Difference Between Server And Personal FTP Repository?
Mar 27, 2015I want to restore a database from my repository. In the backup manager (root) I have Server repository & Personal FTP Repository. The personal repository I set to backup every day. The server repository I don't know where to set the backup option. There seems to be some random backups every 2 weeks or so.
In the personal ftp repository I have the backups of the last 7 days as tar files. When I want to radio button "Selected objects" it can not me highlighted. I am on plesk 12.0.18. (I ticked "Restore this backup despite the fact that it does not have a valid signature")In the server depository the files are .xml and there I can select what to restore but the backups are not current. I need the database from yesterday.How can I make my personal backups selectable?
Plesk 12.x / Linux :: Difference Between Login - Root And Admin?
Apr 3, 2015During the installation of Plesk, at first it used the root password, and then had me create an "admin" user.
When I log in using either I don't see any difference in the UI or options. Is there a difference or a reason to use one over the other?
Or is it just to give someone access to admin Plesk without giving them full root password of the server itself?

I have noticed that they have fallen behind with the updates. Some scripts are 4-5 versions out of date.

Fantastico Updating?
Jun 12, 2008I recently had Fantastico update issues, my fantistico was giving me errors such as "This feature is currently not availabel, please contact your host." lol
I tried lodging a CRON job to do the update ...but waited 72 hours and nothing ! lol
Later i found our that the Fantastico licensing server was down for a while lol
Any one had this issue lately ... ?
Fantastico Broken
May 26, 2007I don't know how it got broken, it was working a couple days ago. When users click the fantastico icon in their cpanels, a page opens that says this:
Fantastico is not installed at the default location /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/fantastico. Either move the Fantastico directory from it's current location to /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/fantastico OR enable ioncube loaders in WHM -> Tweak settings.
I enabled the ioncube loaders and that didn't fix it. So then I reinstalled fantastico and it's still broken.
How do I troubleshoot?

However the guy from Aquarius Storage mentioned Installatron. Seems like a good deal for long-term hosts since they offer a lifetime membership...provided the hosts keep their server around for a few years...but other than that what are the pros and conds of each platform? Why do you guys (by which I mean the hosts who frequent this board) use what you do?

But I have heard that installations through Fantastico is not considered good because sometime it just messes up the database tables and other things. That's why it is recommended to install softwares manually.
Is it correct or just a misconception?
I am confused because now a days every hosting company offers Fantastico, if it was very bad no one would be offering it.

I have safe_mode set to On and shell_exec function disabled. When allowing shell_exec and safe_mode Fantastico is working in this server.

HIt Vs. Request - Is There A Difference?
May 10, 2008I'm curious. I have read some stuff recently about Amazon, Mosso and other clouds. I know Mosso has switched over to a request based pricing model and I realized that I am not sure exactly what a 'request' is.
I think that a hit, as tallied by AWStats, Webalizer, etc. would be the same thing as a request, but I wasn't 100% sure if that was the case with Mosso. I actually contacted Mosso support (someone I know is considering using them) to ask them for clarification on a request. They stated that a page with two images would be three requests, one for each image and one for the page itself. I asked if it was the same as 'hits' and they said no, it isn't. This didn't sound right to me, because my understanding of 'hits' is the same as how he described 'requests'.
So, I figured I would just ask the experts on WHT.

Oct 7, 2009I am looking to purchase either a VPS1024 or Hybrid1 server from WiredTree this Friday.
The purpose of the server is to house a fairly active phpBB3 forum (10,000 registered members with around 100 members online at any one time). Now what is the benefit of going for the more expensive Hybrid1 ($99 with coupon) compared to the VPS1024 ($71.20 with coupon) - thats almost a $30 difference in price?
In layman terms - am I going to get a greater benefit with the Hybrid1 over the VPS1024?

I have hosed my domain in a small hosting company and when i was going through all its folders i found both the folder www and public_html has the same content. but by hosting company asks me to upload all my files into public_html. Iam curious to know the difference between these two folders.
