ColoCrossing In San Jose And Atlanta
Dec 30, 2008
I've read quite a few good reviews about ColoCrossing. Most are related to their Chicago datacenter. I was wondering if anyone has experience with their other locations, specifically, San Jose and Atlanta.

I'm currently hosted at bluehost (worst hosting ever... I will do a review latter) and Im looking a dedicated server....
I plan to run about 5 sites (2 of them 10,000 pages a day) and 2 games servers (COD4) and a ventrilo server... I have been searching all around this forums and colocrossing is a good option for us.
My question for colocrossing.com users is:
- Did they setup and configure your server?
- Did they install a control panel (cpanel or plesk) and if they charge something monthly for the cpanels?
- Is a semi-manage servers or I have to do everything? because I dont know much about server management....
beside colocrossing what other options do you guys recommend for a site/gaming server?
I'm looking something about $130-160 a month..
some other servers on my mind are:
managemybox.com
meganetserve.com
softlayer.com
are this good for site/gaming too?
mostly of my users are from Nicaragua (as myself and the rest of the admins) so pings and fast internet connections are really important for us....

Here is my review for ColoCrossing.
I have been with ColoCrossing since October 2007. I currently rent two machines in their Chicago location, and 1 machine in their New York location.
Customer Service - A+
With the market so saturated with dedicated server providers, customer service is a big issue with many providers, but ColoCrossing makes it very personal. I have filed 14 tickets with them since I have had my service, the response times are as follows:
1 minute, 2 minutes, 1 minute, 26 minutes, 3 minutes, 1 minute, 1 minute, 1 minute, 1 hour 2 minutes, 3 minutes, 4 minutes, 4 minutes, 2 minutes, 3 hrs 28 mins (this was very early in the morning).
The average response time is 22 minutes, which is good, but if you take out that early-morning ticket the average response time would be 12 minutes. That is still skewed though, since most of my tickets were looked at in under 5 minutes.
Also, they don't treat you simply as a number. I have had Jon from their company contact me several times on IRC to ask how everything is going.
Connectivity - A
I am in the game server business, and having great routes, no packet loss, amazing stability and a great ping are very important to my customers. We consistently achieve this through the ColoCrossing network. Their Chicago network is of top quality, and it keeps my customers extremely happy, and keeps winning me new customers from our competition.
Time from order-to-online - D
The one downfall of ColoCrossing is their time to bring their servers live. Two of my three boxes took more than a week to get online. They were more than happy to credit my account for the downtime, but it still was a very big downfall.
Uptime - A+
My machines have never gone offline except by my own reboots. We use remote status tools that verify our server's connectivity from several locations in North America, and we have a 100% connectivity success rate.
Pricing - A+
I find their pricing is excellent for the quality that you are getting. All my prices are custom-built to suit my needs, and Jon was able to stay up very late on IRC and Ventrilo discussing options and building the exact option to meet my needs.
In Conclusion
This is one of the best providers I have ever been with (and i've been with A LOT!) I strongly suggest ColoCrossing to anyone who is looking for a reliable service provider.

I've been with ColoCrossing.com in all of my service locations for over 6 months now, and I would like to say the service is incredible. There has been very little downtime, the only downtime I have ever experienced has been caused by scheduled maintenance which I was notified of at least 24 hours before it took place.
And as many of you know their network in all of their locations are some of the best available.
Support tickets are always answered quickly, even at 4 or 5 AM in the morning.
I recommend ColoCrossing to anyone looking for a quality dedicated server or colocation provider. We colocate with them but I have rented their dedicated servers with equal results.

We are looking to expand into Atlanta and need some suggestions from the community. We are just looking to start off with 1-2 servers so we are not exactly looking for a 1/4 CAB yet and we are also looking for a fantastic network.
What do you guys suggest in regards to a data center ? and what ever you suggest can you please list resellers as more often then not you need to have 1/4 CAB + to go directly to the data center (of course sometimes you don't such as Gigenet / Colo4Dallas etc) .

GNAX themselves have been great and they are still working on this problem with us. We are having a problem getting passive ftp to work correctly on all of our servers at this location. We do not have this problem with any of our other data centers using the same server configurations/images/settings and have multiple servers at GNAX all sharing the same problem, which seems to reasonably say there's something at the datacenter itself that's causing this problem. Ftp connections fail when trying to login using the password or fail when trying to enter passive mode. If the connection does not use passive ftp, then it works fine. Passive ftp will work sometimes at this location, but it’s rare and it doesn’t work for long. Has anyone had any similar experience or may know what the problem might be?

We operate a small point of presence in Atlanta, GA out of the 56 Marietta building. Its a network POP for us, with a few small customers there.
We're interested in finding a company or individual who we can contact to handle remote hands services such as hard drive installs, racking servers, attaching KVMs, nothing major.
Right now we work with TelX. Needless to say, they are extremely overpriced, and under qualified to do the job.

As the title says, I need a VPS host in San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose area. Here's the catch though, the ARIN/WHOIS record for the host server absolutely must reflect that location due to the nature of our application.

I've been looking to colo a couple servers (total of 3U and 10mbit commit) in the San Jose/San Francisco area and calling around I'm getting quotes of around $1500. These quotes seem ridiculous to me--in pretty much every other market I am used to paying a little over a tenth of that--but sales guys just stand firm and say they are impacted.
Where can I find shared colo for reasonable prices in the San Jose/San Francisco area?
I don't think my requirements are really that out there--I need a mix of level3 and something else other than cogent.
