Seeding A Torrent From My Server

Oct 20, 2009

how can I seed a torrent from my dedicated server?

When I build the torrent with Torrent Software, I have the possibility to add a HTTP as seed. The intention is to use my server as seed of this torrent. However I don't know what I need to change or configure in my server. I searched the internet for info about this, but wasn't able to find any info.

The torrent is an ebook written by me with public released domain rights, so there aren't any legal issues. Basically the problem/inquiry is 100% technical.

Windows Server Hacked And Files Transferred Using Torrent Clients

Nov 8, 2007

I have noticed in a few Windows server tha the server gets hacked and there are tons of files which are mostly DVD rips and games being transferred away which results in huge amount of data transferred and bandwidth consumption increasing to as far as 29 Mbps. On further investigation, I find that all the files get stored in either the Recycler directory or the System Volume Information directories in any of the drives. Now these two directories are protected operating system files. Even if there is a windows firewall installed, there is no difference. I have even noticed that in some servers there is an automatic exception rule added in the windows firewall enabling the torrent client to communicate outside the server. This seems to be a common problem with Windows 2003 server and seems to be some backdoor of Windows allowing hackers to use the server for seeding. Has anybody come across such a problem or know the solution? Kindly help me with this.

What Is RapidLeech?

Oct 27, 2009

I've been advertising a bit recently trying to get some more clients and so far its been working. I've been offering 1 month free on any shared service using a promo code.

I've noticed alot of signups from various locations are running a script called rapidleech, should I be concerned about this? I've never heard of it, seems to be some sort of file sharing system.

Rapidleech And Torrentflux: VPS Or Dedicated?

May 22, 2008

I want to set up a website that will run rapidleech and torrentflux. But my shared hosting account just isn’t cutting it anymore. It worked for awhile, but then they set stupid php resource limitations in and the scripts don’t work anymore. So I want an upgrade.

Should I look at VPS or Dedicated? I don’t want to spend more than $50/month, so I’m guessing that a crappy dedicated server is all I can get. There are some specific things that I would like to be able to do with my account.

1. WinRAR – I need to be able to pack and unpack files in the winrar format on my website through FTP. Would I need Linux/Unix or Windows hosting for this? I honestly am clueless about this.

2. Ability to run Rapidleech and TorrentFlux

3. Do I need to look for hosting that gives “root access” whatever that means? Someone told me that if I want to install WinRAR I must have “root access.”

Block Rapidleech Script?

Jul 29, 2009

As most hosting company owners know, rapidleech is a very bad script which causes high CPU loads and abuses the server a lot. I do get a lot of abusive users like this on my shared hosting server, running the rapidleech script and abusing the server so much. I have to terminate, at least a few people a day. This is getting to be really annoying.

Is there anyway to block the rapidleech script for a cPanel/WHM server?

I've read that you can do this using Mod Security, but what do I put in my mod security configuration to block it?

Rapidleech is a script that allows anyone to upload the script to a server to download via rapidshare/megaupload to the server, which uses lots of hard drive, CPU, and RAM.

Server Email Blocking <?>

Mar 9, 2008

I recently signed up a new client to my dedicated server - The minute they switched over to my server, it seems that all hell broke loose. (I'm going to refer to them as "Company A")

Company A called me up and said that one of their employees was getting a huge amount of SPAM and that after a day or two, they were having issues with their E-mail.

I looked at my logs and it showed something unusual-

LOGIN FAILED, user=myclientuser@companya.com, ip=[::ffff:XX.XXX.170.47]: 110 Time(s)

When I explained this to Company A, they ran some virus checks on their computers and 3 out of 5 computers had viruses on them.

They claim to have fixed the viruses but now, they cannot send e-mails to specific clients.

I checked their I.P. against blacklists and they are using Comcast cable internet at their location and I cleared their only blacklisting (spamhaus.org).

I'm still getting calls that Company A cannot e-mail a few of their clients and just to make sure it's not JUST them, I tried to send a test e-mail to the same clients as Company A.

The e-mails from me were rejected due to time-out.

HERE IS MY QUESTION:

Is this an issue on MY end that must be taken care of *OR* is it due to the fact that they had viruses on their computers and now they are blocked because the virus tried to attack everybody in THEIR e-mail address book?

None of my other clients are complaining of e-mail issues or that e-mails are getting kicked back. Just Company A.

Blocking IP Addresses At Server Level

May 4, 2008

I've been carrying some weird hours lately, so I'm able to see activity on my sites that I normally don't see.

Certain IPs are trying to diddle their things into my server and need the boot. It's not consistent (ie not happening every 5, 10 mins)... it's periodically throughout the months. I'll see an IP I blocked 2 months ago just randomly show up at 4:30am and try accessing the same files it was probing during it's last visit. Assuming this is just some sort of bot, can I block it permanently?

I know APF has a collection system that purges an IP list to keep it from bloating, and I had PSM do some hardening so I'm not entirely sure about the workings of APF firewall. So far my IP blocks are blank (which is a good sign!), but I'd like to add some nuisances to it, to keep their crap from appearing in my error logs anymore as "Denied by Server Configuration"

My question is: Can I block people at server level permanently? I do not want their IP being taken out with the purge list that comes by every so often.

Stop Your Server From Blocking Googlebot

May 21, 2008

If your server is blocking googlebot from finding your robots.txt file, how do you configure your firewall to unblock it?

I've searched through Google and I've seen may people just say your firewall is blocking it, but none mention how to really stop it from doing that. Like does Google have an IP it uses, and if so, what is the IP you should whitelist for your server?

As I keep getting that message: Network unreachable: robots.txt unreachable
and I'm sure it's due to a firewall issue, just have no idea how to fix that.

Blocking Traffic To And From Server Destinations

Feb 26, 2007

I was wondering if it is possible to block traffic to and from a server with iptables.
Like for example a user transferring files with his ftp client to another server x.x.x.x (FXP)....

been trying with these rules here:

iptables -IINPUT -s x.x.x.x -j DROP
iptables -I OUTPUT -s x.x.x.x -j DROP
iptables -I FORWARD -s x.x.x.x -j DROP

But still the user can transfer to the server destination...

Server Blocking Form Elements With Www., .com

Jul 10, 2007

I have a wierd problem on my server. I'm updating an order with my php shopping cart script and notice some of the orders hang on updating. After research I discovered the orders that wont update are orders that have domain names in the textarea field. More specifically. www.yourdomain.com will just hang if I try to update them.

After further research I discovered the if I put an backslash it'll update no problem. IE: www.yourdomain.com

This only happens with domain names inside a textarea. I'm not sure if it's a php config setting, apache setting, my firewall, mod_evasive, mod_security. I've looked at all of them and can't seem to find what is blocking the script from updating just because of www.domainname.com in a textarea.

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: Gmail / Yahoo Blocking Messages From Server

I tried Qmail, same issue

Code:
Hi. This is the qmail-send program at m1370.contabo.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. It didn't work out.

<emailhere@gmail.com>:
2a00:1450:4013:0c00:0000:0000:0000:001b failed after I sent the message.

[Code] .....

Centos 6.6 + Plesk 12 Web Pro Edition

My server certainly did not spam Gmail servers, (my old server works fine sending email t gmail) I fear this has something to do with my "Postfix" configuration.

Torrent Hosting

Feb 18, 2009

I work in torrent marketing niche (legit and fully legal marketing) and I need a solution that will allow me to host about 3000 torrents at a time. I don't know how to solve this so I'm looking for help from someone who knows a bit about hosting and torrents. Please help me to find the best solution for my needs. I would prefer hosting it on couple smaller vps servers than on one dedicated. I used to host it on windows server, but utorrent crashes with more than 600 torrents. I think I would add no more than 300 torrents per vps.

VPS, Windows, Torrent Hosting And Umetered Bandwidth?

Jul 17, 2007

I've been looking for a VPS with windows, ability for torrents and unmetered bandwidth. I've tried leaseweb and I did not like their service one bit for support. i did not use their 10mb unmetered though. I then tried FDC and they were ok, but now I'm looking for something else that is more like FDC then anything. With FDC I was running windows 2003, unmetered bandwidth and was doing some torrents a bit. Not music or movies though, i hate 99.9% of the music out and don't bother with movies or software or any of that junk. my speed was fine at up to 100mb literally. downloading from the net to my FDC server would go as much as 80mb or so, peaking a bit faster for like half a second. Anyhow, the speed their was fine.

So I'm just looking for something else is all. The server I was on was a VDS and cost was for me $79. I had 512mb ram and 100gb drive space.
