A few days ago I saw an ad so I proceeded to open some billing / sales tickets with regards to my enquiry but they were not responded to over 4-5 working days.
Nevermind, since their servers pinged good latency and routing for me I decided to contact Robert / Platinumn23 with regards to my enquiries.
He's a good fellow, very helpful and proceeded to setup my account and even honoured an old promotion. He also clarified that his billing / sales team are undergoing a transitional period hence the delay and that his support team is still going on as usual so I have no need to worry about support.
Problem At first everything was smooth sailing until I proceeded to setup Shorewall. I run 4 other servers with the same firewall settings and they all execute fine however this particular server from Bionhosting coughs up errors when I execute "/sbin/iptables -A FORWARD -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT", I get the error "iptables: Unknown error 4294967295"
I've read up numerous articles to try to self rectify however to no avail so I've rebuild the OS from HyperVM a couple of times from CentOS 5 to 4.3 and then back to 5 to see if a full installation would help.
No luck. So I opened a support ticket to see if they could help.
To make things worse, while on the way home, a colleague of mine told me that our server died. Hence I edited my support ticket to say that the VPS is now down (dead) even a rebuild wouldn't help, not sure if it was due to the firewall but it's a pretty standard config withouting fancy so I don't see how it could have been harmful.
Now it has been more than 12 hours and someone has yet to get back to me on this.
It's a good thing this server was still being setup, if I had launched it for proper use, this would be a very big nightmare.
Anyone else on Bionhosting facing these?

Deleted a domain workspace in Parallels Plesk and now I am getting this error when signing into the panel:Looked at the logs and been trying multiple commands (including the bootstrapper repair etc.)I found the full error from the logs:

After deleting a domain, we got the following error which rendered the panel useless.

how to setup a Windows server to provide SSL service to other web sites. I'd like to offer a free service to my local customers and anyone who wants to secure their online operations.
I am trying to find the best economical solution regarding my email address but I need some advice pls.
I have a very small package with asmallorange and I have set up one of my business email in it. I didn't calculate that this business email could take so much space. I have some assistants which work in other places. One of my problems is these asistants who need to access this address too, are not allowed to access any free email provider like gmail, yahoo at their work computers because of their work policy. So I can't do forwarding and I need to have this email address under my domain.
I am thinking of these options:
1) Get more space . This will become expensive for me.
2) use a dedicated email service under my domain name. I have no experience here and I wonder if using a gmail service under my domain will be blocked for my collaborators.
3) change host ( I am afraid to lose my data and my website database).
I'm going to start offering a KVMoIP service for my customers and am trying to get ideas on the pricing. What do y'all think about it? I know most places that I know about charge a setup + hourly fee, well, I like to be just a little bit better, so let's see what y'all have to say.
I was thinking of putting together a DB of all the IPs I block due to spam, hackers, known proxies etc... this would help cut down on malicious use of services such as spamming forums, if I catch them once, they would not have chance to spam up my other forums if each forum checks the same block list. I could also auto block proxies by having it query up online proxy lists.
But before I reinvent the wheel, does such service online already exist? Kinda like RBL, but for web services. So you can basically block IPs off your site before they get used maliciously.
To be even more advanced some special port scanners could go around scan networks for infected machines and block those too.
How it would work:
Site A has a spammer from IP 1.2.3.4 and submits it to the block service. Spammer then goes on site B to try and spam that forum, but that IP is already blocked because the owner of site A submitted it to the list and site B checks against that list.
The VPN service owner can he track and know all his customers activity

Iv been with steadfast for almost 6 years, we have small vps account and 1 shared hosting account, our vps is working very very slowly, we cant log in to direct admin, we cant do anything, i contact support personally to check this issue , the response i received was
" We are aware of the problem with slow disk access this VPS server. We will be adding an additional VPS server and migrating some of the VPS containers to it shortly to address this issue. Under the resources we have immediately available, we are unable to get the problem corrected. Thanks, Ben Galliart Steadfast Networks Support [url] "
WTF? unable to get the problem corrected? our clients that use our vps are going crazy, 1 client even threaten to leave us, i don't know that to do, i was thinking of sue them, what do you think? I'm very disappointed ..
I am located in China and I have websites hosted in the US. Some of my sites and servers are being blocked by my ISP. Do you know of a good VPN or Proxy service that will allow me to reach my sites and managed my servers?
We are hosting multiple servers for a site, web, db, media etc and all of them are in the same DC. I am getting worried that incase a server goes down, it would take DNS down along with and will also take emails out.
I was looking to use a good and reliable DNS service which would ensure that we are reliable and emails don't go out incase of an outage.
I want to set up a service like zoneedit.com with free name servers and branded name servers etc. Since the name servers will be authoritative I am guessing the bandwith required depends on the number of domains and their popularity. I have some questions
1) Which DNS server is the best one for the job 2) How can one provide branded name servers like instead of ns.myservice.com it would be like ns.userdomain.com. Can it be done by using a simple A record.
my dedicated server have a remot reboot panel and i want company monitor my server with less than $10 per month until my server if goes down reboot it from my panel...
Have you heard the expression "cut off your nose to spite your face?" That's SiteGround.com's customer service in a nutshell.
In March 2008, I wanted to get a new domain and have SiteGround.com host it. I already had two accounts with them. So I got online and began a chat with "Rada" or "Dana" (all bogus names). I signed up for a new domain and extended the others. With the package I ordered I paid $146. During that initial chat, Rada or Dana said that if I signed up for another domain with hosting they would give me $10 off.
Low and behold, I began another chat with Rada and/or Dana the next day. I said I wanted to purchase another domain and mentioned the $10 discount offer I was promised the day before. Suddenly, $10 in the face or ordering a new service for $50 was a big deal to SiteGround.com. They reneged on their offer and refused to give me the $10 discount.
Subsequently, I also had problems logging on with the original order as SiteGround.com naming conventions sometimes prevent users from using the usernames they create. SiteGround.com also created a different password. After 4 hours of chats in which SiteGround.com attempted to upsell everything while you think they are trying to help you went nowhere.
I got the money back from the credit card company but my word of advice is avoid these guys. They will say one thing and do another and they send you lengthy explanations as to why they are "prevented" by their rules from offering $10 discounts for customers who want to purchase services that equal at least $146.
how many of you guys are considering buying into a CDN service? Do you ever find yourself (or your clients) asking for it?
If so, in what specific situations would you need a CDN? Did you already buy the service - if so, what made you choose your provider, and if you did not buy the service yet, why not?
Assume, a DNS failover service would change the DNS from server 1 to server 2 when the first one is offline. This will be changed quite fast, however isn't it true that some visitors still experience a downtime of a couple of hours (saying that the main server will be offline for 6 hours) as their ISP might not update DNS that frequently?
So basically, what is the added value of a failover service?
i am hosting 3 sites on my shared hosting plan at startlogic. I need to upgrade but i have a small budget. Gridservice is cheaper and it does not require as much server work. I don't really know anything about server work if that makes a difference.
Which option should i go for and what are the pros/cons of each.
I am thinking of running a vpn service for a limited number of my clients, so that they can surf the web securely and anonymously through our VPS (routing all traffics through a vps). However I have no idea what features should I looking for, I mean how much BW or ram does it need.
Lets say I have 10~20 clients at all, Is a VPS with 300G monthly BW and 256(or 512)M of ram enough to have it work smoothly?
Just had a support chat with my host - the shared server I am on has been very unreliable IMO since I started with them and Im an unhappy bunny. About an hour ago my webmonitor text me to say server down - my monitor does a ping and a content check.
As things now stand the server is pingable but cannot be accessed via http, https, email or FTP so, in my eyes, that makes it down. According to the host as it is pingable it is not down - my argument is I dont connect via ping and nor do my customers so it is down. Over the last few days WHM service status on the box has shown CPU usage regularly peaking (it sometimes gets to 20.0 on 2 CPU that I have saw) so I do accept that is probably whats causing the issue BUT as I cant access websites is this downtime regardless of the server being pingable?
Also should "good" hosts be monitoring things like CPU usage to be able to proactively manage issues like this or is just checking ping the accepted norm?
Really just interested in peoples opinions BTW, this is just one of a number of instances of downtime and not all of them have been caused by CPU usage etc and I cant be arsed trying to claim money back from them etc so this is not why Im asking - I will just move host to someone more reliable, this is just to satisfy my curiosity.....
