Host For Wordpress Blog
Jun 25, 2008I am hosting a Wordpress blog that currently uses 30GB of bandwidth per month. I want to introduce a forum as well so will probably need 50GB per month for now. But would like it expandable to 100GB in the future.
My requirements are:
No hidden CPU Limitations/No unreasonable resource usage restrictions.
Equipped to handle large surges of traffic.
No Overselling, able to use full allocation.
AND PROBABLY:
LiteSpeed - Does it really make a difference?
I have looked at MediaLayer, but they only provide upto 50GB transfer.
SecureServerTech looks good but uptime is only around 99%
At the moment Steadfast Networks looks the best.
My budget will be $20 for 50GB tranfer and $40 for 100GB of transfer, but this is not fixed and I would prefer quality over price.
Control panel does not mater but uptime does.
How To Move Wordpress Blog To Paid Host
Dec 3, 2008I currently have one blog on wordpress (a sub domain like name.wordpress.com).
I want to purchase a domain and also move it to a paid host. I am not really technically knowledgeable to do this. Have visited a few step by step guides but find them quite confusing.
guide to do the move/transfer of the blog, more for a beginner? And by the way is it simple to do or actually more for a professional?

Having 406 Error In Wordpress Blog : Mod_security Prb
May 6, 2009I'm getting this 406 error in my blog. I read about this and learned that this error is related to Apache mod called "mod_security".
I tried to turn it off for my site using .htaccess file by

But it didn't work. So how to get this sort this out ?
Asking Hosting provider to turn it off is out of question .Already asked but they don't want ( can't blame them )

Jan 29, 2009I've been hosting my membership website on one of my accounts on my reseller account at ResellerZoom and it's an absolute joke. The membership website is running on Wordpress 2.7.
The error message 'Internal Server Error' is CONSTANTLY coming up even though my membership website only has ONE member adding, editing and changing the site. This has been going on for 2 months now and there is NO WAY I can open my site to anyone else whilst this is going on.
I have the following plugins running and have tried it without ANY of these running and still had problems.
- Audio player (adds player for mp3 files)
- Contact form 7 by Takayuki Miyoshi
- Gravatar
- Limit posts plugin by [url]Blog Archives Limit Posts Plugin?
- Wishlist Member by [url]

The only response I've got from ResellerZoom is:
Resellers may not use more than 2% CPU daily, 3% memory daily, run more than 10 simultaneous processes per user, allow any process to run for longer than 30 CPU seconds, run any process that consumes more than 20% of available CPU at any time, or run any process that consumes more than 16 MB of memory. Databases are limited to 16 max user connections with a max query time of 8 seconds. Cron jobs must not execute more than once every 15 minutes and will be niced to 15 or greater.
So it looks like I need to move..
I just need a shared webhosting account perhaps? That will support MySQL connections with Wordpress!

Mar 20, 2007Basically I installed wordpress in the same mysql as forum... but wordpress uses different username to connect to it. I wonder if there is any security risk associated with this, like would it be better to move out wordpress on to a different db? what about speed? what if my forum receives allot of mysql usage?

Jun 2, 2008how much disk space and bandwidth would be needed to run a single Wordpress blog. I'm not a popular name, so I doubt I will have too many viewers besides my closest friends. In addition, I tend to make layouts which are a "teensy-bit" graphic-heavy :p

A Free Solution To VPS Backups
May 1, 2008I have completed a complex set of scripts which backup your entire system with small managable backups. One script is for the homedir of the accounts that you choose to backup and another is for backuping up every single mysql database (mysqlhotcopy) on your server.
The best thing is that hosting the backups is free because i have managed to have all the encrypted+compressed backup files uploaded on a free rapidshare collectors account.
If for some reason something does go wrong, you can buy a temporary premium account.
Backups stay on the rapidshare server for 90 days.
On my machine, I have set the cron to daily.
Now I have made many scripts before but this is the first one I want to commercialize.
Does anyone want to buy a licence to use it?
I'm now in the process of building a web UI and a solution to rapid restore of an account through it.
Best Host For A Blog Site- Register With 1&1 And Host With Godaddy
May 27, 2008with this being my first website goddady's website tonight or there blog site plan seem pretty good as I do not know how to build a professional looking website nor do I have a knowledge of HTML. Are there other hosts that offer better services such as these?
Also I would want to register with 1&1 as to register privately is free but with godaddy it costs around $15 and I've heard of godaddy stealing persons domains when they haven't even expired yet i.e. familyAlbum.com?
Is it allowed for instance to register my domain name with 1&1 and host my site with godaddy?

Good Host For High Traffic Blog
Jan 5, 2009I have a blog that gets about 50,000 unique users a month and I'm looking for a host that would fit the bill. I'm using wordpress so that's obviously a requirement, but also I would like RoR support. Other than that I'm pretty open. My fear is just that I'll get relegated to a slow server or have my account suspended. My budget is really whatever I need to pay. I'd like to find something at $15 a month or under but I'm willing to pay up to $50 or more if need be.
I'm planning on growing the traffic more in the future so I'm not sure if I should just go for dedicated hosting now or wait. I've checked out hostgator and they seem to have good reviews and fit the bill well, I'm just not sure if they are suited for high traffic sites or not.

Host - Wordpress, 10,000 Hits
Jun 15, 2008I'm currently hosting my wordpress blog with dreamhost (yuck). It recieves 2000 unique visitors a day, which amounts to about 10,000 page hits per day. Storage is around 2Gb at the moment and monthly usage is about 20Gb however both are likely to increase.
Please suggest what sort of hosting and a provider for me? Budget is pretty much anything (within reason). I would prefer not to spend more than $25 a month but can if the consensus is for something a little bigger. Reliability is important to me so I don't want the site to be down coz I was asleep when the server went down.

Best Way To Host Free Speech
Apr 10, 2009What is the best way to host sites with controversial but borderline legal content?
In the USA, although there is some free speech protection from the 1st amendment, the threat of lawsuits defeats it and the businesses err on the side of caution.
I don't mean abuse either, like selling pirated software or allowing spammers to flood people. I mean, actual valuable speech that is legal, but upsets people.
The USA datacenters suspend accounts and disconnect servers all the time over this. All it takes are either lots of complaints to the abuse team, or scary legal letters.
This makes it impossible for people with unpopular beliefs to share them or expose powerful people for their fraud since they can easily scare the host into censoring.
So how can we provide actual free speech hosting? When I get a dedicated server or colocate in a datacenter I'm under their TOS and AUP. I read them, and it seems good.
But then abuse gets complaints from people. If they're a good host they'll look into it and dismiss the ones that don't have legal merit. But the complaints keep coming.
Finally it reaches a point where they're sick of seeing complaints for your servers, or one of the lawyer's letters sounds scary and legit so they give up and terminate.
The way it should be is, they tell them to email us instead, NOT the datacenter. "We aren't liable for the content hosted we just provide the facility, contact the client".
But they don't do that. They act as police. Well that'd be fine and good for the network if they were good police. But they don't know the law in detail and aren't judges.
So I don't know how to exercise the free speech rights of my customers who want to have a place on the web to say controversial things or post upsetting information.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Some things I'm thinking about are, offshore, mirrors, or ISP.
For offshore, maybe there is some place where people don't threaten to sue like the USA, and the Americans can't bully the datacenter. If they have free speech rights it might work.
For mirrors, maybe there's a way to link a bunch of shared hosting accounts into a central dedicated server that pushes content out to them, so when the server is pulled the rest stays.
For ISP, maybe datacenters are legally liable so we need to go higher. What if we got regular Business internet from AT&T or Verizon and hosted in an office? Will they still suspend?
