Bandwidth Monitoring ...
Give me 1000GB or 2000GB and that's my limit that I'll try and not go over. Pretty simple. However, I'm now dealing with a provider that has me really confused. This company is charging us based on 95th percentile and we're now being asked to commit to 8.5 MBPS while the server doesn't even go over 1500GB monthly bandwidth limit. Is this correct: - We're not using tons of bandwidth but we do have large bursts - The company is ultimately charging you for the bursts

Monitoring Bandwidth Per Ip
I have 1 network interface with a few virtual ones. I need to find a way to monitor bandwidth. I've tried vnstat but it can't measure bandwidth with virtual interfaces. The only thing i've seen is through packet sniffing and i was hoping for a much cheaper alternative(cpu wise).

Webmin Bandwidth Monitoring, Syslog-ng
I have been using webmin's bandwidth monitoring function for a while but (as anyone who's ever used it) i have a few issues: 3 huge (~250MB and growing) log files: /var/log/bandwidth, kern.log and syslog. also the 'dmesg' only outputs these log messages: BANDWIDTH_IN:IN=eth0 OUT= MAC=00:16:3e:00:00:c6:00:0c:db:0d:e2:4c:08:00 SRC=89.181.46.133 DST=83.246.72.186 LEN=92 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=116 ID=36035 DF PROTO=TCP SPT=4399 DPT=22 WINDOW=64711 RES=0x00 ACK PSH URGP=0 BANDWIDTH_OUT:IN= OUT=eth0 SRC=83.246.72.186 DST=89.181.46.133 LEN=92 TOS=0x10 PREC=0x00 TTL=64 ID=42455 DF PROTO=TCP SPT=22 DPT=4399 WINDOW=10720 RES=0x00 ACK PSH URGP=0 I installed syslog-ng in hopes that i could change this behaviour but to no avail. the real problem i see is that shorewall/iptables only logs to "kern" facility... has anyone found a way arround this? maybe even using some other firewall?

Monitoring Bandwidth Usage For VPS
I have a small VPS that is running only openVPN. (No http/pop/ftp/imap/smtp...) Only one port is open for the openVPN software. I've also disabled (not running) any other networking software, so there is no apache or anything "normal" like that. It's a plain-jane CentOS 5.3 install, used only for openVPN. The problem is that I have no idea how much bandwidth is being used. Since the openVPN does not track bandwidth usage, I am now looking for some other way to do it... I am thinking that perhaps munin or cacti or something like that would be a solution? Basically, the only statistic I need to actually monitor is bandwidth, as I don't care about disk space, load, memory, or anything else.. (The server is using VirtualVM, but since that software is insecure... the VPS control panel is not currently online, so all the normal "tools" that the VPS came with are not working.)

Windows 2003 Bandwidth Monitoring
I am not too used to working with having to monitoring bandwidth through windows itself, but the provider doesn't provide graphs from the switch. I tried installing MRTG on windows but got tired after trying for two hours. I really just need a program that can monitor the bandwidth and calculate the 95% usage but I cannot seem to find that anywhere!

Bandwidth Monitoring At Server Level
I have a few boxes on a special setup in a rack that I want to monitor bandwidth usage on for a while. There really isn't a way at the moment to do it switch level. Some of the servers have cPanel, some are just straight Linux (CentOS). I have seen where you can setup iptables to measure/monitor bandwidth, any other easy and effective suggestions for doing this?

Free Bandwidth Monitoring Software
This one should be easy for all the dedicated experts here in WHT. I have a dedicated server that I use for streaming and would like to monitor how much bandwidth I use (on a daily basis). Windows Media Services would be the application that uses considerable bandwidth. So may be a plug in for that? I am looking for something free.

Monitoring For Group Of Servers, Services And Bandwidth
What's the best solution web-based that I can install on a server to monitor a group of servers, services, bandwidth etc.. I'm thinking of offering a service where for a monthly price we'll monitor your server(s) and notify the data center or client of outages. So I'm looking for something that I can create clients then under them enter servers and items to monitor. Kinda like a NOC monitoring solution?

UK Web Hosting 500MB Space 1GB Bandwidth Existing .org.uk Domain
I'm the webmaster for a church website: stpetersbraunstone.org.uk and our domain & hosting renewal is coming up, so I'm looking to see if there's a better deal. We're with namehog.net (and have been for 2 years with no problems at all) on their Professional package. The renewal fees are 105GBP (web hosting) + 5.90GBP (domain name) + 17.5pc VAT to cover the next 2 years, which comes to 130.31GBP. The site is powered by WordPress, so PHP and MySQL are needed. And we upload lots of photos, so need at least 250MB webspace I'd have thought. So far, our highest monthly bandwidth usage has been under 800Mb, and our visitor numbers are increasing and our highest monthly figure so far was 401. Any recommendations gratefully received. There seems to be many different companies out there who offer what I want, so I'm after some personal recommendations please. I've already used this site to discount streamline.net due to bad reviews. I'm looking at fuzioned.com and redfoxhosting.co.uk - any thoughts? I've also come across no-wires.co.uk - has anyone had any good or bad experiences with them? And yes, I have submitted my details to the "request quote" thing.

Best Monitoring Application?
Best monitoring application? We need a good (best?) network/hardware monitoring application for monitoring our servers located at 3 different datacenters and around 50 servers.. I've founded some programs but they don't cover my needs 100% Basicly I need these; - Adding servers easily. - Adding monitoring channel for each servers. (load, network, disk/ram usage etc..) - Adding users and attaching users to servers seperately. (For example I will add justify user and attach him to server1, will add wht user and attach him the server2 and their permissions will be different and they will have no control on other's servers.) - Web based controller for users/admins - I want to install it to my windows/linux servers and monitor all remotely.. - SMS / mms / msn / email / icq notifications. - Ability to post/get notification.

Gameserver Monitoring
I'm trying to do up a gameserver monitoring script whereby, I'm able to check if a particular game service is up or down. In this example, I'm trying to check if the port 7777 is up (Unreal Tournament server). PHP Code: <?php$server = "xxx.xxx.xxx.xx";$fp = fsockopen("$server",7777,$errno,$errstr,30); if ($fp) { $fplist = green; } else { fclose($fp); $fplist = red; }?>Colour is <?php echo $fplist; ?> I've tried this on an actual UT server which is currently online, but for some reason, it keeps on giving me red (to signify a down service).

Monitoring And Troubleshooting
I am on a freebsd semi managed dedicated server (semi managed in that they dont really do out lol i just dont have root access, ssh though) unsing DirectAdmin I need to find a way where i can monitor the processes that each account is using. In the Service Monitor its showing all the services thats running for example, at present httpd is showing this: httpd httpd (pid 96703 96702 96700 96698 96697 96696 96695 96694 96693 96692 96691 96690 96689 96688 96687 96686 96685 96684 96683 96682 96662 )I need to find more info about each of the pid's as i would like to know who is using what. does that make sense? The other day (above httpd is normal) there was at least 10 times that amount and the server was dead slow, but i could not find any information as to who was using what and what cause the server to die.... I also have a customer that usually uses about 400mb to 500mb bandwidth per day, since the 28th of march this has gone sky high to nearly 2gb, he says he does not have any attachments fro download, nothing new has been added and no extra traffic, yet this has happened, this is why i need to find more info about such things, I have had a look at the logs but again, i do not really understand what any of it means... i read this somewhere, but i dont think it works on my server... Quote: Look at the PID of the process using the most resources. Then use "ls -alh /proc/PID". Ya'll get something like: root@server02 [/]# ls -alh /proc/10231 total 0 dr-xr-xr-x 3 nobody nobody 0 Jan 17 15:35 ./ dr-xr-xr-x 144 root root 0 Dec 29 09:48 ../ -r--r--r-- 1 root root 0 Jan 17 15:35 cmdline -r--r--r-- 1 root root 0 Jan 17 15:35 cpu lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Jan 17 15:35 cwd -> /home/USERNAME/public_html/ -r-------- 1 root root 0 Jan 17 15:35 environ lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Jan 17 15:35 exe -> /usr/local/apache/bin/httpd* dr-x------ 2 root root 0 Jan 17 15:35 fd/ -r-------- 1 root root 0 Jan 17 15:35 maps -rw------- 1 root root 0 Jan 17 15:35 mem -r--r--r-- 1 root root 0 Jan 17 15:35 mounts lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Jan 17 15:35 root -> // -r--r--r-- 1 root root 0 Jan 17 15:35 stat -r--r--r-- 1 root root 0 Jan 17 15:35 statm -r--r--r-- 1 root root 0 Jan 17 15:35 status The cwd -> will tell you what folder is being accessed. That should let you know what user. You can also from SSH on Cpanel boxes use something like "lynx localhost/whm-server-status" to see connections to specific URLs.

Reverse Domain Name Server (DNS) ARPA For Domain On VPS
I have a vps with dedicated ip's for my domain names. I read that in order for mails coming from my server not be picked up as spam, i need to add reverse ip entries. Now i have already added the glue nameserver records on my godaddy control panel, ns1.mydomain.com -> 10.20.30.40 ns2.mydomain.com -> 10.20.30.41 But do i need to speak to the datacenter to add the reverse dns entries for my domain on their nameservers? What about if i host my nameservers offsite, but then have my webserver/mailserver etc inside the datacenter? Would i need to request the datacenter where the nameservers are hosted to add the reverse ip entries for the domain, and then the request the same from the datacenter for my web/mail servers to add the reverse entries? Is it really required?

Extended Monitoring For MySQL
I have 2 dedicated servers (Centos with WHM/cPanel), for the oldest server it will be great for me to have some option to monitor which users/databases are more used, I'm more interested about the "spikes" i see in the munin graphs once in a while. This server has an average of 42 queries/second but sometimes there are some spikes of over 250 queries/second and in munin I can't see which users/databases ware causing the spike. Curently I use munin for monitoring the server, and it's graphs are ok but I need a more detailed graphs or statistics for mysql, I searched munin plugins but there's no plugins to show the user or database which gets the most queries. how can I see which user/database had more queries? I attached a graph generated by munin, you can see the spike, I seen the spike after about one hour, when the traffic was normal, and the page in WHM - Mysql Processes couldn't help me because there's no history.
