All CPanel & Email Passwords Changed PLUS Root

May 10, 2008

I got up today, went to check my emails and received invalid passwords on all my email accounts. I then went to check in the CPanels and get the same error when I try to login.

Then I try the root and same thing!

BUT all my linked FTP accounts work and the sites are online and working. One is giving a 500 error (cgi program) but besides that, they are all online w/ no changes.

My "host want to do a OS reinstall and let me try and restore my sites from a slave drive. I think thats stupid and shouldnt be needed.

They also automatically say I was hacked...Sure a hacker changed all the cpanel and email passwords but worked it so the linked FTP accounts would work and didnt take any sites offline.

Import Email Passwords To CPanel

Nov 16, 2008

And now after creating a Joomla! site for a school that will be moving to my server from a local small isp that doesn't have a control panel (just a screen to allow users to set-up their email name and pwd) I'm stuck with trying to figure out how to set up their email accounts with their current password.

There are about 40 accounts that I can add manually, but when I change the nameservers, these teachers and staff are going to be at a loss as what to do; like I am at the moment.

Backup Old Cpanel Site And Restore It On New One But Email Passwords Lost

Aug 9, 2008

I moved from a host to another and wanted to restore/use the email adresses that are already saved on my old host account.

I did a full backup by using Cpanel's wizard and saved it on my computer. Extracted everything and then by using FTP I have put all the files on my new server which is using Cpanel as well.

Although all email adresses are now visible in my Cpanel the old passwords will not work anymore......

No Email Received After DNS Changed

Apr 13, 2009

I have a detected server and it host one domain with many sub domains account. I never used the cpanel DNS service, instead I used the hosting company’s DNS. .Everything was working fine (including the email) until I decided to have my own DNS. I used the domain register company DNS service to create a DNS records for the domain and all my sub-domains. The problem is the email did not work yet!! Here what I done with the DNS :

eg.com my domain and 1.1.1.1 the server IP address (e.g.)
Type--- Name ---- Domain -- Data ---Pref
A---- ---- eg.com ---- 1.1.1.1
A---- *. ---- eg.com ---- 1.1.1.1
A---- forum. ---- eg.com ---- 1.1.1.1
A---- mail. ---- eg.com ---- 1.1.1.1
MX---- ---- eg.com ---- 1.1.1.1----0
MX---- *. ---- eg.com ---- 1.1.1.1----0

I update the nameserver in the cpanel basic setup. It should work fine, I don’t know what goes wrong? I never touch the server configuration, the server was relay on external DNS service.

Here are the error that I got when I tried to send an email to the server :

info@eg.com
SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO::
host mail.eg.com [1.1.1.1]:
550-Verification failed for ....

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: Access Email Passwords In Plain Text (not Encrypted)

Jun 17, 2015

I need to be able to access email passwords in plain text (not encrypted). I'm running with updates so as to not force encryption, which I'm told is a one-way deal. I'm going to have to go to new hardware soon, as I'm finding the hardware starting to fail.

I understand the "mail_auth_view" utility shows the passwords, and was wondering if it will decrypt them for you?

If not, how can I keep the behavior of non-encrypted email passwords so that the customer administrators still have access to them for their users? I know a new install forces encryption, which is why I can't do that. How can I preserve the non-encrypted passwords and move to new hardware? This seems to be a deal breaker for my customers.

Plesk Automation :: Email Alias Name Is Not Changed On Update

Jul 2, 2014

We have noticed that if we have created example@domain.tld email account and we create new domain alias for example alias.tld. We have already created email accounts for example@domain.tld and example@alias.tld.

Now, if we change email account name for example example2@domain.tld only mailbox for example2@domain.tld is updated, example@alias.tl is unchanged.

In this case if someone send email to example2@alias.tld email will not be delivered because alias mail name was not updated. We have noticed this error in PPA 11.1 and PPA 11.5.

Mysql User Privilege Changed By Cpanel Or What

Jun 26, 2008

I am using Cpanel. One Cpanel account is backup. I use it to backup my database.

Under mysql, I gave this account ( backup ) many priviledges. But when the backup script ran, error said that backup account can not 'lock table'.

I gave "lock table' priviledge again and run the script, it is ok.
But after a while, when the script ran autmatically on daily basis, it lost the 'lock table' priviledge again.

I wonder if Cpanel is messing me up? What can I do about it? anyone knows?

How To Prevent Email To Root Account

Feb 27, 2008

I'm running a webosting server under linux with sendmail as mailserver.

The problem is that many spammers send mails directly to the root account by using one of the existing pseudo accounts like "apache, uucp, root, ...". In a default sendmail installation, apache, uucp, root are defined as alias and point to root. I do virtualhosting so I accept mail for several domains. If a spammer send mail to root@anotherdomain.com, the spam will also arrive in the root account. If I define a bounce all for my main domain, I have problems because root@mymaindomain.com and apache@mymaindomain.com do not exist anymore. This results in user unkown when apache or root try to send a mail out.

So, how do I prevent spammers from sending mail directly to the root account? Is it possible to accept only local mail to the root account?
