Cpanel Addons Don't Disappear
Oct 6, 2007i'm facing a weird issue in whm. i've removed clamav and munin, but these still show up in the navigation bar of WHM.
any idea why they're still there, and how i can remove them properly? (i've refreshed the page, its not cached).
DNS Trouble When Trying To Set Up Addons In CPanel Account
Jan 15, 2009I'm trying another cpanel hosting service in addition to one with which I have a main domain and a bunch of addons. I'm used to being able to create the addon accounts regardless of whether I've already changed the ns for the domains being added yet. In the new service I'm trying, I am unable to to do that, but instead get an error message which appears online in various forum posts:

With the hosting service where I can always create the accounts any time, I use a secure login that contains my account ip: [url] I will only do secure logins, and not any unsecure http logins. The other hosting service where I am unable to create the addons does not appear to have that available for my normal account url or ip, at least it doesn't work when I've tried, but after searching I found out that you can get a secure login in another way, so I am able to securely log into my account using [url] but this is not the same as my account's IP or the normal shorter url for my regular unsecure login. I would guess that's the significant difference which allows me to create accounts any time in the first account vs. not at all in the second - that I'm using my account's normal ip for the one, but the longer-than-normal secure urls for the other (?), although I don't fully know how that would work.
There is however, one significant difference in the second account which I do not have in the first, and that is that I have SSH access in the second account. So, I am wondering if there is a simple method for using that SSH access to change a setting in my second account in such a way that I can have the same freedom to create addons there first and then attend to ns changes and so forth later when I'm ready? Especially is there a way to do this only once for the whole account, instead of having to do it for each and every addon? Thanks in advance to those who might really know the score on all this stuff and exactly what the best solution or solutions are.
Import Email Passwords To CPanel
Nov 16, 2008And now after creating a Joomla! site for a school that will be moving to my server from a local small isp that doesn't have a control panel (just a screen to allow users to set-up their email name and pwd) I'm stuck with trying to figure out how to set up their email accounts with their current password.
There are about 40 accounts that I can add manually, but when I change the nameservers, these teachers and staff are going to be at a loss as what to do; like I am at the moment.
All CPanel & Email Passwords Changed PLUS Root
May 10, 2008I got up today, went to check my emails and received invalid passwords on all my email accounts. I then went to check in the CPanels and get the same error when I try to login.
Then I try the root and same thing!
BUT all my linked FTP accounts work and the sites are online and working. One is giving a 500 error (cgi program) but besides that, they are all online w/ no changes.
My "host want to do a OS reinstall and let me try and restore my sites from a slave drive. I think thats stupid and shouldnt be needed.
They also automatically say I was hacked...Sure a hacker changed all the cpanel and email passwords but worked it so the linked FTP accounts would work and didnt take any sites offline.

Aug 9, 2008I moved from a host to another and wanted to restore/use the email adresses that are already saved on my old host account.
I did a full backup by using Cpanel's wizard and saved it on my computer. Extracted everything and then by using FTP I have put all the files on my new server which is using Cpanel as well.
Although all email adresses are now visible in my Cpanel the old passwords will not work anymore......

May 15, 2008My Pink Floyd website has a photo section of rare concert pictures that our members upload. We have about 3,000 of these pictures, that our members upload via an FTP server that is hosted on a simple cPanel web hosting account. Someone logged into the account and not only deleted all the pictures, but uploaded obscene pictures and index.html files to some really nasty stuff.
We delete all the obscene stuff, but before we re-upload all the pictures I need to know...
On a cPanel account is there a way to have the FTP User only able to upload files and not edit/delete/change? Somehow we can edit their permission?
I asked HostGator about this and the ChatTech said this cannot be done, and I was a bit surprised. I could easily do this on my own server, but i'm not sure where to start at the user level.

Jul 22, 2007When cpanel edit the httpd.conf(to add subdomain/domain/etc) made a wrong.
In the lines
BytesLog /usr/local/apache/domlogs/domainorsubdomainname.com-bytes_log
CustomLog /usr/local/apache/domlogs/domainorsubdomainname.com combined
it breaks them as follows
--
BytesLog /usr/local/apache/domlogs/domainorsubdomainname.com
-bytes_log
CustomLog /usr/local/apache/domlogs/domainorsubdomainname.com
combined
And httpd cannot start and failed.

Domain Addons
May 31, 2008I want to ask I have a client who has 2 Domains. The Client Does not want the second domain attached with the 1st Domain Name.
But the second domain is added on in cPanel.
So what I am saying is if you had google.com and a Addon Domain yahoo.com then a folder called yahoo.com will show in the clients /public_html/ folder.
Then this is accessible by [url]
How can I make this so it does not happen?
Or is the best way setting up a new cPanel Account?

Could You recommend a cheap less than $5/mo shared hosting?
What I need:
highest uptime available, 99.8 or above would be great
use more than 10 websites with them, addon domains feature.
bandwidth above 1 gig, maybe above 5, not sure.
support doesn't matter that much, cause I almost never ned to contact them, lol
another thing I'd prefer is to use company's details in WHOIS info - that's really kind of important. Don't like Godaddy's $10 service. Just don't want to pay.

SSH With No Passwords
Jan 6, 2007way to set up a user in passwd/shaddow to use no passwords. Not looking for keypair authentication or any authentication. just the abulity to run ssh <host> and I'm in.
Why - you might ask would I want something with no security? Because the shell that they are going to run is going to lock their IP out. This is a trap for SSH hackers allowing them to log in with any password/no password and immediately drop into something that runs iptables to kill their IP instantly. So I'll create a number of dummy accounts with names hackers try and it's a trap.
Subdomains With Different Passwords
Jun 16, 2008I'm planning on buying my first domain in order to host various sites of mine in one place. I like the idea of subdomains to separate them, but I was wondering... Is it possible to access different subdomains using different passwords? I'm planning to let a friend of mine use a subdomain to host a site of hers that's related to mine, and I'd like it if she had the security of a different password. I just want to know if I can even do this, and if so, what hosts offer this option?
