1GB Ethernet Vs. USB 2.0
In terms of storage, which will provide faster data transfer?
1. A NAS (e.g. Lacie or Thecus) with 1GB port connected to a gigabit switch
2. An external storage that uses USB 2.0 interface
3. An external storage that uses eSata inferface.
Assumption:
All of it use sata drives under a raid 5 configuration.

USB Stick As Virtual CD
I have a server, with KVM over IP but without virtual media. It would be nice if i can install the OS from a usb stick but i have some requirements: It has to be some sort of net install since i cannot update the USB stick in the future, but it has to install each time the newest OS version. It also would be very nice if i can choose between different OS’es for example: [1] Newest CentOS version [2] Newest Fedora version [3] Newest Debian version Etc, i am still learning, so it would be helpful for me to learn different distributions.

CD-ROM On A USB HUB For Multiple Servers
Has anyway come up with a way to have several servers connected to one external CD-ROM on a USB Hub/network? This could allow a few external CD-DRIVES to handle a whole rack and the possibility of setting the bios via KVM/IP on a server to boot from CD, then it would boot from the CD tied in on the USB "network". Maybe using a USB hub? Or would this cause possible security issues having multiple servers tied in via USB ports? I would love to have the ability to have maybe 3 or 4 CD-ROMs tied into multiple servers for OS installs remotely without having to actually go into the DC for this. You could put the CD-ROMs on your APC reboot and just turn on the one you need and set the bios to boot from CD (ie: one drive could have CentOS, one could have Windows, etc) I'd be interested in some ways people have done this or what they use.

What Kind Of Website Can 1GB Ram Handle

If it's just wordpress driven website... Maybe anyone can share how much traffic your site have and how much ram it's using? At the moment I have website with about 40k uniques/day and ~100k pageloads per day hosted on shared hosting but they have gave me 3days to find another hosting because they say I use to much of their traffic...

Shared Host <$5/mo - 10+ Addons, 1gb+ Bandwidth
I tried to put as much as possible into the title I've had asmallorange for like 6 years now, was great host but lately uptime seemed to suffer a bit. Searching for some new one to try. Could You recommend a cheap less than $5/mo shared hosting? What I need: highest uptime available, 99.8 or above would be great use more than 10 websites with them, addon domains feature. bandwidth above 1 gig, maybe above 5, not sure. support doesn't matter that much, cause I almost never ned to contact them, lol another thing I'd prefer is to use company's details in WHOIS info - that's really kind of important. Don't like Godaddy's $10 service. Just don't want to pay.

Mid-level (1GB RAM) VPS With Strong Support
My university runs a website to help students find rentals in the general area. We recently ran into some billing issues with our current VPS host, and we're trying to move to a new VPS. I have some experience finding cheap VPSs (I use Slicehost for a 256MB RAM VPS), but this one has different requirements. Our current VPS provides us with 1GB of RAM, and we don't want to go below this. Also, the VPS we use gives great tech support to my boss (who only knows the very basics about technology). We'd also strongly prefer a VPS that comes with Cpanel. Does anyone have any recommendations for other VPSs that meet these requirements?

Ethernet Connections
I now have to move on to the question of Ethernet ports in relations to rack mount servers. I have just about ever question answered now. Now my question is about the connection to the web my server will use. Is it better to have a single or a dual Ethernet post? I see a lot of duals. Here are some of the samples I have read when building my server. 2 x Intel® 82546GB Gigabit Ethernet Ports Dual Onboard Gigabit Ethernet LAN Ports Dual Intel® 82541GI Single-port Gigabit Ethernet Controller Broadcom dual Gb NICs Intel dual Gb NICs Broadcom BCM5754, 10/100/1000Mbps I don’t know which one to look at or get?

I checked it on google and the explanation's varies but most say that is a problem of the router/switch or similar.

Metro Ethernet Vs. DS3
Say I have my own office to start building out my own "mini" data center. If I wanted a lot of bandwidth for the most reasonable cost, how do one go about buying bandwidth from various providers? What is Metro-Ethernet vs. say a DS3? I know there is Fractional DS3 (6 to 45mb/s) and then Ethernet services up to GigE. I'd rather not mess with BGP right now either. If I am looking at 15-20mb/Sec of bandwidth, what would be a good route to go? My budget is about $1500/month for bandwidth and IP Addresses (I need 2 Full Class-C IP Spaces). I also want to be able to turn up speed as needed without a lot of hassle. Is this a reasonable budget? And where would be a good place to start? Just call up like Level 3 or am I too small potatoes to even deal with?

Choosing Ethernet Switches
We're ready to setup 3-4 42U racks for servers and are in need of choosing Ethernet switches. What do you guys use and why? I'm looked at Cisco switches, but lost in their product forest. I'm looked at Express 500, 2960 and 3750-E models. Is there any more difference (in exception of stacking, cli and hot-swap fan/psu) that I need to consider? Prices differentiate too much. I'm also looked at Linksys/D-Link business products and they seems to have the same features as Cisco Express series, but only 50% cheaper.

If There's 2 Ethernet Line, How Will The Traffic Be Like
I've a rack in the datacentre, and actually sharing the ethernet line with another partner's rack. Something like: Bandwidth -> Switch 1 -> Switch 2 (partner's rack) Bandwidth -> Switch 1 -> Switch 3 (my rack) After a previous uplinks issue, i'm never able to hit above 4Mbps of download speed to my home's cable broadband anymore. I have no idea whether it's because my partner capped my bandwidth from Switch 1, or his usage has increased such that it's affecting my traffic too. I can't be too concerned about it with him, as he's paying the bulk of the bandwidth costs. For the whole rack, i'm not able to hit above 5Mbps accumulatively, and my normal bandwidth usage is only about 1-2Mbps. So i'm thinking of getting another line for bandwidth directly from the datacentre to my Switch 3, perhaps starting from just 1-2Mbps only. How will things improve? Just a silly thought, whether my total available bandwidth can now be 5Mbps + 2Mbps = 7Mbps.

UK Web Hosting 500MB Space 1GB Bandwidth Existing .org.uk Domain
I'm the webmaster for a church website: stpetersbraunstone.org.uk and our domain & hosting renewal is coming up, so I'm looking to see if there's a better deal. We're with namehog.net (and have been for 2 years with no problems at all) on their Professional package. The renewal fees are 105GBP (web hosting) + 5.90GBP (domain name) + 17.5pc VAT to cover the next 2 years, which comes to 130.31GBP. The site is powered by WordPress, so PHP and MySQL are needed. And we upload lots of photos, so need at least 250MB webspace I'd have thought. So far, our highest monthly bandwidth usage has been under 800Mb, and our visitor numbers are increasing and our highest monthly figure so far was 401. Any recommendations gratefully received. There seems to be many different companies out there who offer what I want, so I'm after some personal recommendations please. I've already used this site to discount streamline.net due to bad reviews. I'm looking at fuzioned.com and redfoxhosting.co.uk - any thoughts? I've also come across no-wires.co.uk - has anyone had any good or bad experiences with them? And yes, I have submitted my details to the "request quote" thing.

But, it also has a different G/W as Eth0.

Windows: 2GB Physical Memory - 1.2GB Used - 1.1GB Page File Usage : Normal
I have a Windows 2003 server with 2GB ram running IIS and SQL 2005 express. I noticed that the server only uses around 1.2GB of its physical memory (been a few days) while page file usage seems high at 1.1GB. SQL server has been allocated a maximum 1GB of memory while IIS has no limitations on memory usage. Server doesn't really show any slowness at this point (not a lot of traffic). But to my understanding other than the proccesses that always use some virtual memory (around 400mb usually), page file should be only used when there is insufficient physical memory? So is there something wrong with my memory usage, 1.1GB on page file while there are still almost 50% available physical ram?
