Terminal Connection To Foundry 2402CF
May 31, 2008
I'd setup a Foundry 2402CF at home with a terminal port connection. When I got it to the data center I could not connect to the terminal port using the same connection settings I used at home.
Thought it might be the cable, so tested it with an FWS2, which worked fine.
Could the port have gone bad on the trip to the DC, or is there some security setting I'm missing?

We are having some problems with a Foundry Bigiron 4000.
The hardware config is as following:
- Bigiron 4000 chassis
- 2x B8GMR3-A management (active + standby)
- 2x B24E
Once every couple of days now, we get the following error in syslog:
Code:
2009-10-05 20:40:00User.Warning8x.xx.50.1Oct 5 20:39:59 gateway IP: IP: Duplicate IP address 8x.xx.38.1 detected sent from MAC address 0004.d3ea.e200 interface 3/13, 1 packets, first packet received at time 1 days 20 hours 41 minutes 37 seconds since bootup!............

I know there's been discussion regarding Foundry BigIron's and their capabilities of running L3 and L2 at the same time.
I have a friend who is running a BigIron 8000 and only pushing just over 100Megabits on it, however once every few hours he experiences a BGP flap and one of the CPU's maxes out. He is running both Layer 3 and Layer 2 on it.
When the issue occur's, new connections do not open, but currently opened connections continue to operate.
Is there a specific packet type that is causing this to happen? Does anyone have any insight? It is running the latest firmware.

I recently installed a foundry bigiron 4000 with a B8MGR3 running version: 07.1.18T53
When ever I tracert outbound using a unix box, it gives me a ICMP checksum is wrong error. Before I had this switch installed, i never had this issue! Could it be this version i am running?? And this ICMP error happens on all of my unix boxes.

We're evaluating options on new switch deployments and wish for advise or opinions. We have experience with 2950's but want to move up into all gigabit devices. They will be used for pure L2 purposes as front-end access switches for server racks.
For our needs (24 port, all ethernet, L2 only) it looks like these two competing models fit our requirements and budget:
Cisco Catalyst 2960G (about $2150):
Switching: 32Gbps
Forwarding: 35.7Mpps
Foundry FLS624 (about $2400):
Switching: 108Gbps
Forwarding: 161Mpps
It's a tough decision because we have no experience with Foundry products, but from the spec sheets the price vs. performance ratio seems amazing (almost too good to be true).
You have to wonder if they get their ratings only under one specific situation in which you never encounter in "real world" use.
For those of you using Foundry what models are you using for your access switches to your web severs? Is there a better model for our application? What's your overall opinion of the products and service? Would you invest your entire network to them?
We have a mix of various vendors right now for switching / routing (Juniper, Cisco and Riverstone), but looking to the future being more vendor centric to either Cisco or Foundry for switching will be the model (using Juniper for routing). We've also considered other vendors such as HP, Extreme, etc, but ruled these out for a variety of reasons.

Recently we have been having users come to us saying that they are unable to type anything in any of our terminal servers. The first scenario is that the user cannot type anything and when I view their screen using Terminal Services Manager they are able to type again. The second scenario is that the user cannot type anything and then they have to minimize the terminal client and click the desktop. Once they click the desktop or type anything on their local computer everything is fine.
We are using the latest RDP client in XP from Microsoft. Our servers that we have had the issue on are: Server 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 SP2 and Server 2003 Enterprise SP2.

Does anybody know of a datacenter somewhere in Massachusetts that would allow me to colo a tower server along with a sonicwall SSLVPN and firewall? I need maybe 1,000 - 2,000GB/month transfer on a 10mbit port. Ideally under $100/month.

I'm looking at allowing remote telnet into my server.
like any security-minded administrator, I want to log what my users type on the telnet session.
I'm using the script command to generate transcripts of the users session.
I have /etc/profile set to automatically start the script command to log user activity, and in /etc/bash.bash_logout I have a command that emails me the transcript of the users' session.
All of the above works well except for one thing:
the users can type "exit" to escape from my script logging and any commands they type won't get logged.

How do I lock down my Windows 2003 server so NO ONE can terminal service in UNLESS they are connected through the PRIVATE network? The server is hosted with Softlayer which allows a private network.
Basically, I want to connect to the SL private network and then terminal service in to get in.
When I connect to the private network, my primary IP/network is STILL my ISP's network. If I goto ipchicken.com, I see my ISP's ip.
However, if I do an ipconfig listing, I see the SL private network ip listed as well (it's just not primary). Hopefully, that won't restrict me from terminal servcing in when I lock down the server.

I am unable to set the background for the users on a terminal server.
The server is running Windows server 2003 R2 64 bit Enterprise edition.
I have setup the background path correctly in the group policy for the ou where the users are located. However the background does not load. I have also enabled Active Desktop in the terminal services configuration manager.
Also when I try to set the background manually as the administrator, everything is grey and I am unable to set the background. I have tried to start the Themes service but this does not resvolve the problem. Do anybody here have a suggestion on why I am unable to set the background even on the administrator user manually? (the administrator user does not have any group policies activated).

1) If I'm logged into my {other VPS} with Putty, then
ssh root@67.xx.xx.xxx
successfully logs me into {new VPS}, after the password prompt, so I know the root password can login (some of the time)
2) ...but not my Windows computer, both Putty, and SFTP fail.
The SFTP error message is :
"ERROR:> [7/31/2009 9:48:08 AM] Can't connect to 67.xx.xx.xxx:22. SFTP21 error = #0."
Port 22 is correct, according to hosting support.
3a) Hosting support said...
"Based on the information you have provided to us, I am assuming that either your firewall or ISP is blocking the standard 22 SSH port. If you would like, we can change this to a custom port number."
3b) That response doesn't help, since I'm using port 22 for the {other VPS}

I am on a VPS server and want to know in high traffic conditions how many connections per IP address can come... because on my site connections per IP going to 300 and mostly around 100.
But these are fluctuating and from different locations... everytime.. so dont think as a Dos but so many connections per IP makes my server down for few minutes until connections dont go down.
how many maximum connections per IP will be fine... for a little popular site.

Today i get alert from server provider saying my server is under attack, i check netstat and found too many connections.
Quote:
This ticket was automatically generated by the Softlayer Network Protection System. Due to the large amount of traffic targeted to your IP address 74.86.157.184, SoftLayer has automatically injected the IP address into our Cisco Guard Protection system. This system diverts traffic destined to the IP address 74.86.157.184 through hardware devices that will try to identify and block the specific packets and flows responsible for the attack while allowing legitimate transactions to pass. The injection of 74.86.157.184 will remain in place until this attack subsides and then be automatically removed once traffic levels reach a normal level.
Details of the event follow:
Exceeded Bits In: 782.7 M (Threshold: 500 M)

The connections are from my server to port 80 of "140.211.166.134".

This is an error that dns report spat out to me. I have the firewall disabled as of now so I don't understand why packets would be blocked..if they are being blocked. From what I can tell, I can get to the server and resolve no problem...but could that stop other dns servers from connecting to it? I recently moved my cpanel box to another location in the LT datacenter in order to get on a different subnet - the previous one was a spam list nightmare. All IP's have been changed over and such...is this just cached from like the 14 hours I was down (ouch!) or is this still happening? I mean...its able to look up a records and it can get the mx servers...
error: Our local DNS server was unable to get your MX record. This usually means that a firewall in front of your DNS server is interfering. For example, it may be blocking DNS packets from low source port numbers (ours is often in the 1024-1030 range). Firewalls should never block DNS queries based on the source IP address; otherwise, it is guaranteed that legitimate queries will be blocked. This specific lookup must be cached, so a recent change may not be reflected.

I have a Linux box running CPanel and am having issues with 1 particular client trying to connect using FTP. I am also running lfd and csf.
The problem is that whenever they try to ftp to the server (regardless of the domain), they get an error saying:
"Connection to host lost".
I look through the logs (/var/log/messages) and see that there was a connection made and closed. No errors.
Otherwise, all my clients can connect without a problem.

So, almost 80% of the people here uses Telefonica and some Telmex. I know ThePlanet has direct connect with Telefonica, but, is there any other good provider with the same benefits or even better?
