I am having issues with spy hosting. I signed up for a shared hosting account on Saturday the setup was fast but DNS will not resolve my domains. I get this error when doing a DNS Traversal

This is my review of Spry shared hosting. This is a negative review I bought a shared hosting account on Saturday when i noticed a problem. It said DNS Server reports a failure so i just though it was normal but i waited 72 hours and guess what it still does not work. They attempted to fix it and said it was fixed but did not even to bother to check my site to make sure it worked. The support is slow and they will not reply on Saturday or Sundays. The main con was the the broken DNS server. Just as a note accounts are hosted on a VPS not a server because in cpanel it says VPS Optimized. They did however refund me.

VPSLink (Spry Hosting) - 1 Month Review
last month i came here asking about a VPS provider to replace my shell provider that died, i was on a very tight budget and ended up with VPSLinks smallest package, Link-1, 2.5gb disk space, 100gb monthly bandwith, 64mb ram, 1 dedicated ip, all for $7.95 per month. I signed up, the setup was done before i managed to get to the login panel (must have been instant). There i was presented with OS choices, i choose debian. 10 seconds later my VPS was online and ready for me to connect with SSH. Very good Setup - 10/10 Installed all the stuff i need (My IRC server, my bouncer, and bitlbee gateway) this takes up about 60mb ram (few, just inside the limit) and all was well. Networking is the only problem i have with VPSLink so far, there are odd lag spikes every now and again that last around 20 seconds, there was also just under an hours downtime this month. The administrator in vpslinks IRC channel had this to say. [lylev] No, I cannot. I did just receive word from our network administrator that one of our racks main switches died, but instead of dropping connections, it created a routing loop, overloading the rest of the network. That one rack has been taken offline, so the rest of the network is back up, but some clients will still be down. There is real room for improvement with networking, so i'm giving it 5/10. Customer support was pretty nice, the representatives in the IRC channel are quick to reply with informative answers, links to pages with more information, they also have a large wiki with various configuration examples and tutorials. I can't give them 10/10 because i didn't really have to deal with the customer support that much, i only asked one or two questions, so i don't know how they'd be with more in depth questions. On that basis i give customer support 7/10. So that really puts us at an overall rating of about 7/10, not bad at all really for $7.95/month. I'll do another update at the 3 month mark, hope this is useful

Our web site has been hacked many time over the last few months. The hacker only puts links to other site in our html code. We changed the FTP password many time but we are still finding malicious code in our main index page and other pages on the site. Moving From A Shared Hosting Account To A VPS.
I currently use a HostGator shared plan which caps off database connections at 25. HG support said my only choice is to move to a dedicated server which means my monthly hosting cost jumps from $14.95 to $174.00! Something I'm not too excited about paying. Can anyone offer any suggestions on Virtual Private Servers running *nix? Would a VPS be a good alternative to an expensive HG dedicated server or do you recommend I just suck it up and go dedicated? I just can't believe how much they want considering I've seen some VPS for under $100. If I did go with a VPS, would there be an easy way to move all my files, databases, SSL certs, etc to the new server?

How To Enable Preview DNS In Godaddy Shared Hosting ?

Most Suitable Licence For Setting Up A Shared Hosting Server? (exchange, Sql, Dns)
I have built a server so I can co-locate it to be used for shared hosting. The specification is high, compared to most dedicated server offerings, so I was considering splitting it up into different virtual machines for different purposes. The specification is: Intel Xeon 3230 (4x 2.66ghz), 8GB DDR ECC RAM, Seagate Cheetah SAS 15,000rpm (4x 147GB), Adaptec RAID 5405 (RAID 6 Array with Battery Backup), Dual on-board NIC, etc. The original plan was to use this machine as just one linux server, but I am concerned most of its potential will not be exploited. So I am exploring the possibility of setting it up as 2 Virtual Machines, installing Linux on one and Windows on the other. This way I can offer hosting for ASP and ASP.NET, and possibly MS SQL and/or Exchange depending on costs for their licences. What Microsoft licences are suitable for servers used for shared hosting? From what I can gather there are several ways of being licenced, but I can't figure out which is the most cost effective. It seems you buy the server OS edition that supports your requirements, then pay another licence per user (CAL?) - I haven't got a clue how many users I will need to have though. Then if you want to use MS SQL, DNS or Exchange you need the correct edition - and buy licences for these too. Does anyone know roughly what I should be looking to pay for what? I would ideally like to have MS SQL, DNS and Exchange - but am aware that the licence could be so expensive that it wouldn't be worth doing.

Crons Not Working In ONE Reseller Account
I have WHM 10.8.0 cPanel 10.9.0-R10737 Fedora i686 - WHM X v3.1.0 One of my resellers got a bunch of complaints this morning from her own customers that their crons have stopped running. She checked her own sites, and they're not running for her either. I double checked. They ARE running on the rest of the server. I have no complaints from anybody else on the server, they show from shell as running on the server, and crons are running in the site I'm working on to fix a broken script (in a different reseller account).

DNS - NS Change Not Working
I changed the name servers for my domain (ronin-studios.com) over a month ago when the site was moved to a new server. Sometimes, however, when people go to visit the site they get the OLD site and forums. When I do a ping from dnsstuff.com I get the old IP address. When I ping from other networking sites I get the new IP address. Another stange thing: I use OpenDNS for my DNS servers and one day they will be hitting on the right IP, the next, it changes to the old IP. Like I said, this was supposed to have changed over a month ago.

Access An Account On Shared Ip Without Domain Name

Do Most Shared Hosts Just Suspend Your Account When You Get Traffic
This is my first time with shared hosting and I went with hostgator because they are well known. Well, my site is getting decent traffic but well within my disk space and data transfer allotment, and I get this email saying my site has been suspended and my site is inaccessible. Great Success, Apache Is Working After Subdomain DNS Configuration
So here's my situation: I have a rented vent server, that I wanted to point vent.mydomain.com to the IP of said vent server. I put an A record in the dns pointing to the server and all is well. When I type vent.mydomain.com into a browser it take me to the cPanel/WHM page saying "Great Success, Apache is working". Is it possible that I can somehow have that get redirected to the main site or no? Basically if Im connecting with the vent client, I want it forwarded to the vents IP, otherwise I want to have it redirected to mydomain.com.

First VPS Account - DNS Woes
I am trying to set up my first VPS account and it has gone reasonably well until I was actually going to point my domain to the IP I have received. I am absolutely confused as how to set up my own DNS and the instructions I have found have not made me significantly smarter.. I am on Debian using DirectAdmin control panel. Domains are registered through NameCheap. What I first tried doing was just using the two DNS adresses that were in the DirectAdmin administrator settings panel as it was installed but this didn't seem to work and when pinging these hosts I didn't get an answer at all. I reckon this is not the way to do it..

DNS Trouble When Trying To Set Up Addons In CPanel Account
I'm trying another cpanel hosting service in addition to one with which I have a main domain and a bunch of addons. I'm used to being able to create the addon accounts regardless of whether I've already changed the ns for the domains being added yet. In the new service I'm trying, I am unable to to do that, but instead get an error message which appears online in various forum posts: Quote: Error from park wrapper: Using nameservers with the following IPs: exampleIP 1,example IP 2 Sorry, the domain is already pointed to an IP address that does not appear to use DNS servers associated with this server. Please transfer the domain to this servers nameservers or have your administrator add one of its nameservers to /etc/ips.remotedns and make the proper A entries on that remote nameserver. With the hosting service where I can always create the accounts any time, I use a secure login that contains my account ip: [url] I will only do secure logins, and not any unsecure http logins. The other hosting service where I am unable to create the addons does not appear to have that available for my normal account url or ip, at least it doesn't work when I've tried, but after searching I found out that you can get a secure login in another way, so I am able to securely log into my account using [url] but this is not the same as my account's IP or the normal shorter url for my regular unsecure login. I would guess that's the significant difference which allows me to create accounts any time in the first account vs. not at all in the second - that I'm using my account's normal ip for the one, but the longer-than-normal secure urls for the other (?), although I don't fully know how that would work. There is however, one significant difference in the second account which I do not have in the first, and that is that I have SSH access in the second account. So, I am wondering if there is a simple method for using that SSH access to change a setting in my second account in such a way that I can have the same freedom to create addons there first and then attend to ns changes and so forth later when I'm ready? Especially is there a way to do this only once for the whole account, instead of having to do it for each and every addon? Thanks in advance to those who might really know the score on all this stuff and exactly what the best solution or solutions are.

I'm trying to find at least three web hosting companies to choose from to host a Joomla websites on a shared server. Would consider dedicated if the deal was right. I have a friend of mine who wants to create a church website, and is looking for the best deal. I use Netfirms which I have never had an issue with, but I didn't want to be bias, and would like give him other options to choose from. Is there a good WebHosting Review site, I could check out, or maybe someone could recommend their top three. I reading threw the forums here and I noticed there are not that many complaints with Hostgator. Again, I just want to see if there was anything out there better.

WHM Not Listing Account, DNS Etc, Missing Files, File System
I recently had an issue where my box wasnt listing accounts (on logging into WHM for the first time it would, thereafter browsing different functions in WHM it would fail to list any accounts), would not list any zone items when editing DNS zones and in general was acting very strange. I think the tech support chap narrowed it down to zero free inodes on the filesystem (i was even getting errors when editing files with 'vi'). This was increased for the VPS and all issues seemed to be resolved... However named and httpd were not starting after reboots. Again on looking closely named and httpd were missing from /etc/init.d (on CentOS 5.3)! This is very strange and i certainly didnt modify those nor delete such critical files. For a second opinion, is there any cPanel script that can be ran to fix the issues, i am concerned other things have been affected but havent manifested themselves yet (other files deleted etc). Does cPanel update script create the init.d files or is this done by the CentOS operating systems itself? Are these files modified during a cPanel update script? These init.d files for named and httpd have been readded (copied across from another box) and it seems to be ok again, but ideas on howto proceed much appreciated, as i mentioned i dont want any nasty supprises!

Hosting Multiple Sites On The Same Hosting Account. Getting A Weird Redirect
I have about 5 sites all hosted on my same hosting account. One of those domains is attached to the hosting account. I place my other domains in a folder of a sub-directory of my main domain. This has been working fine, up until today when i noticed a weird error. I give you a little example of how my sites are setup my main domain: www.maindomain.com My other sites hosted in a sub-directory of my main domain: www.maindomain.com/sites/site2/ www.maindomain.com/sites/site3/ How my other sites appear on the web: www.site2.com www.site3.com This works fine for every page until i go to www.site2.com/index.php It redirects to www.maindomain.com/sites/site2/index.php for some reason

Wildcard DNS Subdomains Working, But Existing Subdomains Not
I've set up the affiliate manager from jrox.com for a client of mine. This includes the setup of wildcard DNS so that each affiliate can have username.clientssite.com and have it count their clicks - which works properly. What isn't working properly is that he also has forums.hissite.com, which is loading the main website page instead of his forums. He is using cpanel to add the subdomain, and it isn't failing, so I'm not sure what's going on with it. Here is the relative section from the httpd file. Unlimited Domains With Shared Hosting Vs. Reseller Hosting
This question gets asked a lot in our Helpdesk and I figured I would post our knowledgebase article here to help anyone else wondering the Pros and Cons of Unlimited Domain Shared Hosting vs. Reseller Hosting. If anyone has anything else to add, I appreciate any feedback on how we can improve our KB article. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Given the present state of shared hosting, many clients may ask "Why would I need a Reseller account if I can host unlimited Addon and Parked domains within a single shared hosting account?". There is certainly enough Disk Space and Bandwidth provided in many of today's hosting packages, so why bother to purchase a Reseller account? Many don't realize the drawbacks of hosting large numbers of domains within a single hosting account until they've already packed tens of them onto a single package. So how do you know whether a Reseller account or Shared Hosting account is right for you? The answer is in how you plan to provide access to others and how "mission-critical" the sites are. You should consider the following factors when deciding on hosting a large number of domains: 1. Who will be managing these sites? 2. How important is site security between sites? 3. Will these domains need dedicated SSLs? 4. How resource intensive will these sites be (RAM, CPU, MySQL)? In a nutshell, Reseller plans are for those who wish to host websites for other sub-clients and a shared hosting package is for a single individual managing multiple personal domains. We'll go over the 4 points above in greater detail. 1. Who will be managing these site? If you personally own multiple domains and wish to host them within the same hosting space, you can easily do so with an Addon or Parked domain. An addon domain will allow you to host a new domain within a subdirectory of your hosting space. A parked domain will allow you to have multiple domain names point to the same content. Since addon domains reside within the same user space as your main domain, you can manage all of your domains with a single login. You can see the problem if you want to provide another user with access. Since all accounts are managed with a single set of login credentials, if you give another user access to their addon domain you are also giving them access to your main domain. If you have vital information stored on your main domain and you are hosting another domain as an addon domain for someone else, you cannot provide them access to their hosting without compromising the integrity of your main domain. When hosting sites as a Reseller, your clients in turn will want access to their account and will want exclusive rights to their disk space and server resources. With a Reseller account, each sub-account you create gets its own username, password, and isolated user space on the server. Individual clients of yours have access to their user space and their user space alone. In addition to the isolation with regards to access concerns, each account also gets their own cPanel access. All of the same great features that you use to manage your sites can also be given to your clients. Next time client Y wants to add an email account, you don't have to do it for them for fear of giving them access to your cPanel, you can simply give them their login details and they can manage their own email accounts. 2. How important is site security between sites? This is along the same lines as point 1. This is not necessarily related to who you are hosting for, but what content you are hosting. Imagine that you are a webmaster and you are hosting your own personal site-in-a-box community forums (such as PHPBB or vBulliten) on your main domain and a company website for a paying client on an addon domain. It is not uncommon for popular scripts to have security flaws in older versions. Script authors will often update security flaws in later versions of their software. For this reason, it is very important to keep scripts up to date on your site. But let's assume you forget to update your scripts for a couple of months and an unscrupulous individual takes advantage of a well known security hole. Using this exploit, they gain access to your forums and any subdirectories. Since you are hosting another domain as an addon, they now have access to this domain's content as well. A site defacement on this company's site may not bode well for you when they are considering you for web master services in the future. If these two domains had been separate into two individual users (i.e. two subaccounts created through a Reseller), their content would've been inherently isolated server side by Linux's user management. Sure, your forums still would've been affected by the security hole, but the break-in would've been isolated to your site alone. Going back to our example, let's say that instead of a corporate website as an addon domain you are hosting an image gallery site for all of your cats. In this case, it may not be a big deal if a compromise in your main domain spreads to your addon domain. After all, they are both owned by you and you're only losing some time and effort to restore these sites from your local backups (which I'm sure you've actively maintained ). But then again, you are losing time and time is money. If these sites had been separated into individual users, again, you'd only have to restore one site's content. The idea here is isolation. Reseller plans provide you with the peace of mind to know that if one of your users doesn't keep up with their site's content as actively as they should, their actions won't negatively impact the content hosted on other domains. If you and those you host in your addons are diligent webmasters, maybe this point won't have much bearing on your decision. Only you can say for sure. 3. Will these domains need SSLs? As of this writing, SSL certificates must have a dedicated IP address to be installed. If you are hosting multiple domains on the same shared hosting package, you can still install an SSL (or purchase a dedicated IP address and install one) but you are limited to exactly one SSL on your account. If you are hosting multiple domains on the same package (and consequently the same IP), you must choose which domains gets to have the dedicated SSL. Sub accounts of Resellers can each be placed onto separate IP addresses and, as a result, can each have their own dedicated SSL installed. Of course, both shared accounts and Resellers' sub accounts can use the server's shared SSL free of charge. However, some clients prefer to see their domain in the URL bar when they visit https. 4. How resource intensive will these sites be (RAM, CPU, MySQL)? We've already established that disk space and bandwidth will be no problem. But what about CPU, RAM, and MySQL resources? It's important to be aware of the resource needs of your website. As administrators, we have to make sure all users "play nice" on the server. We can't have user X eating all of the CPU cycles computing pi to the trillionth decimal place while you are trying to serve web pages to your loyal visitors. We have to monitor the actions of all of our users and in the event someone is stepping beyond the bounds of acceptable resource consumption, we have to take action. In most cases, this entails disabling the abusive script, but in extreme cases we have to suspend the abusive user account to prevent other domains from encountering performance degradation on their sites. If you are hosting 100 domains as addon domains, all serving nothing but static HTML pages, maybe you will stay off the radar. But considering most sites are more complicated than static HTML, you may want to be aware of how many sites you host as addons and what content they serve. If you're hosting the latest and greatest Joomla modules, with up to date news feeds, integrated forums modules, polls, blog posts, etc your site can certainly require a degree of CPU to serve your pages. Now imagine you have 5 or 10 of these sites all hosted as addon domains. The resources these sites need to generate their content can quickly add up and before you know it you've got a friendly email from Acenet, Inc. in your inbox wondering why your user is consuming 2 of the 8 CPU cores on the server. That may be an exaggeration, but you get the idea. In the event your resource usage becomes so excessive that we have to suspend your user, now all of your sites are down instead of whichever one may be the direct cause of the spike in CPU, RAM, or MySQL consumption. If each of these had been separate Reseller accounts, the offending account could've been suspended temporarily while we work through the cause, leaving the rest of your domains live and kicking. The conclusion here is that you need to be aware of the needs of your sites in a general sense. Hosting unlimited domains within a shared hosting space is certainly a nice feature. For those webmasters who have multiple presences on the web, it's very convenient to be able to manage all of their personal domains from a single control panel. I'm new to the VPS scene, so could someone tell me the difference between VPS and say shared hosting or dedicated hosting? Actually I really like to know what a Virtual Private Server actually is.. I know shared hosting is typically a single account on a server with several hundred other accounts which is used primarily for the sole purpose of hosting websites, and I know that dedicated hosting is functionally the same as colo except that you rent the server, instead of having your own purchased server plugged into some network. So what is VPS?

Noob - Shared Hosting VS. Dedicated Hosting
I am developing a website for a client of mine (the client is a close friend and know's that he is getting a newbie). This site will be larger (project wise) than anything that I have ever done (everything I have done in the past has been FrontPage). We will be using several third party applications that need to run on the server as well as our own custom developed applications. We do not yet know how much access to the server's deeper structures we will need for all of the applications that we want loaded on our server to run. Things we have in mind: oscommerce, mysql, php5, apache, linux, vbulletin, blogger, phpbb, adserver, ect... Would these things run ok on a shared host and would I have full authority to configure them without needing full access to the server? Or will I need access to the entire server (dedicated server) in order to have full customization capabilities? I guess all I am trying to figure out at this point is will shared hosting for a large project limit our abilities to use 3rd party apps, or do most 3rd party application designers build their stuff to work in a shared hosting environment anyway? If we need to get a dedicated server we will, but if we can get away with shared hosting for a while (especially during development when the site will not be generating revenue) it would be nice to avoid the price of a dedicated server. Also, if anyone can sight some common scenarios that may require a dedicated server over a shared hosting plan, that may help me to understand what the limitations of a shared hosting plan vs. a deicated or virtual dedicated server are.

Difference Between Using Shared Hosting And Reseller Hosting?
Here is my dilemma, thanks to a thread in these forums I was directed to a hosting website called pc-core.net and I was interested in using them, because it does not appear that they oversell at all. My question is regarding the fact that they have the shared hosting for $12/month with ~5gb of disk space and 50gb of transfer. I then just looked at reseller hosting for the heck of it, and noticed i could get a reseller hosting account with 45gb storage and 450gb of bandwidth for $10/month. Even though I wont be selling hosting, or anything like that, can I use a reseller hosting account like a normal shared hosting account?...just with more space and bandwidth?

Hosting For Corporate Account
i am about to take on a big account where i will be hosting-developing-designing and doing analysis. im not sure if i should get my own server or transfer this new account to my hosting company (host monster). im afraid if my server goes down i will not have the experience to rectify it in a rapid speed. is it ok to keep a big account that relies on web traffic and business with a host like host monster and what are the pro"s and con's. i have only done web design and development thus far and the hosting and maintenance is pretty new to me.

Nameservers And Backup Hosting Account

Hosting Account Management Tool
What do you use to manage all of your hosted accounts? We have 2 servers, and about 95 clients. We bill our clients yearly. I cant seem to rely on plesk or cpanel for billing renewal dates, owner, etc. IS there a program out there to help me see what account is due when, etc? Also who the owner is. Ideally, Id love it o track by server, or view all, as well as show expiration notifications. We are just to the point where managing these on excel is getting messy.

Second Hosting Account In Case Of Failure
I'm reeling right now after my shared hosting has been down for more than 24 hours (and this isn't one of the super-cheapies, it's in the $20-$30/month range) In the future I'd really like to be protected against this kind of outage... I know downtime is inevitable with any host, so I'm wondering if it's possible to have some kind of failover system. Maybe I could get a second account with a bargain basement host (<$10/month) and keep it relatively up to date with a mirror of my site. But I don't know how I could manage the DNS so it went to the second host in the even of a failure on the first.... Does this kind of redundancy exist as some product in the industry that I don't know about (is that what "colocation" is?)? Is it likely that my host has the ability/willingness to redirect my domain (302 or something) in times of trouble like this?
